I've always seen this place on social media but never went to one until recently. The Lee's Sandwiches in Chandler is apparently The Spot to chill at for the older crowd. I see a lot of uncles, aunts, grandmas and grandpas hanging out on the patio, especially on weekends! It's adorable!! The first time I went on a weekend and the patio was full and bussin'!! Today I stopped by after work and the patio wasn't as full, but there was a good size group gathered outside. The sandwiches here are so damn tasty, and you have to give them credit for making their own bread daily. You can taste the difference and you're never gonna get stale bread here, no sir!! They also offer a wide variety of Asian goods such as Vietnamese coffee you can make at home, spam, pastries, and a variety of chips you can't find in a regular grocery store. The prices for these banh mi sandwiches are very reasonable. One sandwich costs around $9. You can cut it in half and split it into 2 which is a deal! They make mine without jalapeños which is exactly how I like it. They forgot and put some in one of my sandwiches tonight, but no biggie. I just picked them off, lol. The dining room is large, but I have never dined in. I will eventually! The variety is enough for you to stand there a good while and ponder on what you want. My fatty self has ordered 2 sandwiches each time with a drink, and I'll probably keep that going! I also like that they offer smoothies, milk teas and other drinks you can add toppings to. You already know what I got! ;) The employees are always friendly and patient when I have questions. I'm glad I live nearby so if I get a craving, I don't have to drive an hour like I used to have to back home in CA!! I'll be coming here often for sure. Had to stop by for the viral banana coffee! It's been awhile but it was busy as ever on a Sunday afternoon. There were men outside smoking and even playing guitar. I had to park behind the building. The line was about 5-7 minutes long. I thought about getting a Bahn mi but have seen recent negative reviews- reviews even that they have failed the health inspection, so I decided against it. I ordered a small banana coffee which came out to ~$7. Although my order number was 10 behind the one that was being called, my drink was ready within a minute or two. I was expecting more of a cold foam but it is straight up banana PUDDING lol. So of course banana pudding on Vietnamese coffee is delicious! It mixed well; no clumps. read more

We tried this GEM mid-morning on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Upon arrival, the restaurant was moderately busy, so we did not have to wait long in line. We really enjoyed walking through the makeshift market of Vietnamese food items and had plenty of time to look over the selections. My wife ended up getting one of the European-style sandwiches, and I tried one of the traditional Vietnamese baguettes. Both were excellent, and the grilled pork was incredibly unique and cravable. The coffee tasted amazing, though the green tea was just average. The dining room was about half full, but there were quite a few dirty tables left uncleared. That minor detail aside, I would definitely come back just for that grilled pork. We'll see you again! . read more

Again, another lackluster experience. I needed some food before a meeting and this banh mi place was on the way, so I stopped in. At 6:30pm, again, I was greeted by the Asian chain smoker men outside and even coming into the store, you can smell the second hand smoke. I know that these men need a place to find community but gosh can you guys quit smoking already? I feel like the health department could step in here as this would never be allowable in NYC as the second hand smoke is harmful to others. But whatever, its Maricopa County, live and let die or whatever that motto is. I ordered the #1 combo and no mayo. Order came to close to $9, which is more expensive than ones in California! Wow! I can get a banh mi in California for about $7.50. The banh mi is also smaller than the ones I have gotten in California, so they are skimping here and probably making more a profit margin. This is probably my last visit to Lee's in Phoenix. After a close to 10 year relationship, I am breaking up with this place. read more

I've been coming to this location since 1952! Although back then it was an empty desert of vast land with nothing on it. Luckily, Lee's Sandwiches opened here in 2005 serving up an array (lots) of different sandwiches, bread baguettes, croissants along with other eats & drinks. Recently I did notice a sign of the times, small price hike and slightly smaller portions. The taste however was still great, and satisfying therefore will keep coming back. Service is simple: order with a cashier then wait for your number to be called at the "Pick Up" area. Condiments are plentiful at the same pick up spot so don't forget, like me. They have plenty of seating space if one chooses to eat on site. We however always take our orders home to-go. Always delicious, never lets us down, Lee's sandwiches continues to be a hit. read more

Our daughter was familiar with this place, so we stopped by for a quick lunch. It is located in a strip mall with adequate shared parking. The interior space is divided into 3 main areas: the ordering counter / grocery part, the main dining room, and a secondary dining room where about half the space is given over to Asian guys playing card games of some sort. In the ordering part, you circle around a central packaged item grocery to order your food. There are a couple of cooler cases with chilled drinks also. You can circulate in the center and get bags of processed chips, etc. At the counter, there is a large menu board where you can select your sandwich and other options. They spanned from a BLT on a croissant to more Asian-style sandwiches. We also got an order of 5 slim eggrolls as an appetizer. The dining room is partially separated from the kitchen counter. You go back to pick up your order. The food was good. I enjoyed my BLT and the others in our party liked their sandwiches as well. Prices were reasonable. I love how there is Lee's sandwhiches in Arizona. Their vietnamese coffee is so gooddd. Its super strong. I also got their thai tea and I liked how it was perfect - not too sweet which is the best asian compliment. I really like their breadsticks and was craving it which is why we stopped by. We got their bbq pork, pate, and grilled pork. My favorites were the grilled pork and bbq pork. The breadsticks are made fresh, so it came out so crispy and warm - DELISHHH!! It's also $3.50 so it's a good cheap snack. It gets kinda loud in there with the loud music and I see a lot of old folks playing games and socializing there. I love Lee's but I haven't gone here in a while, so I decided to stop for lunch with my pal. They have remodeled the inside giving it a more restaurant vibe instead of the grab n go model. I always get the Almond tuna crossain't and a bag of chips. I swear that, they have the best croissants in town, in which, you can buy them individually. There's parking onsite but very limited, however, you could park across the street as well. They have great Vietnamese coffee but one has to be careful drinking it since, it's like having coffee on steroids. You will literally be up all day and night drinking a cup. Is the nose and mouth wiper who then touches your food items still working there? Short non Vietnamese looking lady. Reported this and no action was taken. She will drop your baguettes to the ground pick them up place them in bread sleeve and expect you to be OK with this. Stands within site of anyone ie customers in line, wipes her bare hand on her mouth and under her nose and steps up to assist the front clerk by handling people's orders I along with2 others were stunned and declined to be next and left. We were driving by this place and it was very busy so, we came back the next day (early afternoon) and it wasn't as busy (not at all) we decided to try a few things and their honeydew melon smoothie is my favorite. Me and my Mom decided to sit for a while and noticed there was only one other person at a nearby table, there were about 10 guys sitting outside all smoking heavily and looked to be playing cards? The usual is #38, Lees Club on a croissant, but asked the young lady her favorite (#5 SW Grilled Pork) and so I'm going to give that a try. Quite tasty. There are numerous menu options, Breakfasts, European and Asian sandwiches, Coffees, Smoothies, Italian Sodas, Teas, the usual American soda selection, various canned and bottled drinks, fresh baked Baguettes, and I couldn't even begin to cover the assortment of grocery products. I've been going here since I've been a kid and it's crazy to see how much they have renovated. The combination sandwich is my go to sandwich and had been for years! I like to veer on the side of leniency, but it is a sandwich shop and it wasn't busy so I cannot imagine why this would happen. The lemongrass grilled pork banh mi was fine, they really skimp on the fillings, ESPECIALLY the meat. The grilled chicken I definitely would not recommend, as it just tasted like rotisserie chicken from costco. I would highly recommend checking out Mekong sandwiches instead. This is like every Vietnamese American children's nostalgia banh mi. The crunchiness of the baguette and the pickled vegetables paired well with the meats. Along with the sandwiches were the iconic Lee's Coffee. Drinking just one of them would make you stay awake for a day or two...I really enjoyed the number 6 sandwich, Grilled Pork with extra grilled pork. My grandpa would always get me it. RIP grandpa :(...Anyway...as I grew older, I did not feel like this is the best location to get Banh mi. The interior has change allot and has looked better. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, though...outdoors can get crowded with men playing cards and smoking. The interior was not the only thing that changed; the quality of the food. Now, portion sizes have been so small. The bread to filling ratio is so lacking where sometimes I would be getting just a few pieces of meat in my sandwich or meat but it is just all fat. All of that for a sandwich that costs almost 10$ without a drink. The bread does taste good however, the outer shell scrapes the roof of my mouth every time I eat it. The drinks have not really changed in my opinion. The coffee and smoothies, I would say, are their best drink options. I would not recommend their milk tea or fruit teas. While I think the food quality may gotten worse over the years, I believe it is relatively a decent spot for anyone wanting to try Banh mi. They also offer European style sandwiches that are served on their baguettes and croissants. My favorite Asian Sandwiches here are: Lemongrass grilled beef/chicken, Special Combination, and Grilled pork. My favorite European Sandwiches...If i had to choose...the turkey club on the croissant(I am not fan of european sandwiches...) Overall, I would rate this place a 6/10. I chose the chicken wings while the wife chose the Banh-mi sandwich. My wings were old and the sandwich was decent; nothing outstanding per se. We hear from fellow patrons the baguette and bread are made fresh daily and you can clearly see that to the right side of the restaurant. I've been eating at Lee's for well over 10 years, starting out in CA. When I moved to AZ I was so happy to see Lee's had a local shop. This was a difficult review for me because much of what makes Lee's great has substantially changed. Yes, the baguettes are thinner, the croissants smaller and so forth, but those changes were manageable. Today I noticed their prices had noticeably increased. My friend asked for light ice in his beverage but got shortened on the drink itself by a third! Mind you, he asked for light ice because the last drink he had there was mostly ice with only a few sips of iced coffee. The other shocker was the downsized almond croissant priced at $4.50! I get they're trying to survive this economy but at these higher prices it's tough to make this a weekly habit. read more

Truthfully, I love Lee's Sandwiches due to the nostalgia and memories it brings for me, but if I'm going to be honest, it's not the best food that you can get either. I'll continue going due to the personal comfort I get though. My partner's and I's go to order is the #5 with double meat, double vegetables, and no jalepeno and cilantro. You generally customize your sandwich orders here no problem. Double meat and vegetables are an extra charge. Even with double, you don't get a ton, but with just the regular sizing, it's also not enough. I'm not a huge fan of the drinks here, but they do offer some fun choices. There are times where quality control can be lacking. I've bought a bun from here and found lots of egg shells inside it :( I've found that they usually have customers at all times of the day. The line can move a bit slowly, but service is standard. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Sometimes tables and chairs can be left a little dirty by other customers. Definitely give Lee's a try at least once if you would like to see what many people grew up with! read more

The bread had a fantastic crunch and a softer chewy interior with some great protein flavors. The only downfall is the amount of protein, very little for the bread ratio. The picked carrot and radish were a must for this sandwich. The jalapeno was a nice touch but a little too spicy for even my taste. I also ordered the taro green tea with boba, but it came with most of the ice melted from the hot tea/boba. Had to ask them for another cup of ice to have a chilled drink. I have to say that I've never had spring rolls out of a paper bag, but these were pretty good. These were pulled out of the warmer case, so I'm not sure how long they've been warming....either way, great flavor, just be sure to get your sauce packets at the pick-up window.
