This is the best Lee's location! The sandwich selection and ingredients are better than the other locations I've visited. The cashier was extremely nice too. The wait on this particular visit was pretty long, and I wonder if it's always this slow. But when the sandwiches arrrived, it was well worth the wait. I ordered baguettes to go too... hot, fresh and HUGE. They're only $2.50 each! I also noticed others coming in just for the drinks, and they looked really good. Parking sucks but that's because it's downtown SJ. I recommend coming early on a weekend and hope there's a free open spot on the street. Otherwise you gotta pay the meter on weekdays or hit up a parking garage. read more

I'm pretty familiar with Vietnamese cuisine since there are a lot of restaurants in San Francisco so I had an idea what to order. I hot a banh mi bowl instead which included fresh veggies, brown rice, and caramelized steak as seen in the photo. The side sauce was great! Came in almost every morning for Fanime weekend and was a solid experience every time. A bit of a wait since it was busy, but food still came pretty quick. A small spot in downtown near campus, there's a few tables both in and outside. Space is clean, nicely designed, and has plenty of options. On the same street as the convention center, we grabbed some lunch from Lee's including chicken yakitori and bbq chicken spring rolls. It was nice to be able to easily find this kind of food. I haven't seen yakitori since I was a kid! We got takeout, so I can't speak to the service. Definitely go back for yakitori! read more

The 5 stars is for having the most unusual faucet in downtown San Jose. Water comes out of it for washing. Then air comes out of it for drying. It looks like a Tesla steering wheel is over the sink. See picture below: I noticed that sometimes the bread here is not as crispy as the bread from over by Grocery Outlet, but this location seems cleaner. Lee's is always a reminder of my college days back when banh mi was about $3 - $5 and life was a lot simpler. I wasn't originally planing on grabbing a sandwich until I noticed an entirely new, vegan menu. Damn, they got me gal - all $16 of my vegan chicken katsu banh mi. Their sandwich was just as I remembered. Fried mock chicken katsu with pickled veggies, jalapeños, and cilantro tucked inside a toasty baguette. I honestly can't remember if there was an actual spread inside since I ordered the vegan option, but it was still a good enough sandwich. I'm surprised to see that they offer mock meats now but it was definitely worth a try. For the price though, I likely won't be returning anytime soon. I don't know if I can justify spending nearly $20 on a sandwich again that used to cost me less than $10, even with how crazy inflation has been over the years. read more

As the very old expression goes "color me" surprised. My daughter has eaten here before and she suggested we try Lee's. I expected something akin to a Subway sandwich, but there's literally zero about Lee's that resembles any sandwich shop I've tried. The woman behind the counter took the time to explain anything we asked about, and suggested a few things to try. I was delighted and after lunch I wished there was something like Lee's where I live in San Diego. I ambiance was open and bright with no decorative touches, but the vibe totally matched the menu. Had a great experience here at Lee's Sandwiches. This isn't your typical Lee's Sandwiches. The store is very modern and the menu is larger than the usual stores. I thought the service was amazing and I got my banh mi in around 5-7 minutes. With this shop being right next to San Jose State, it gets super crowded during lunch times, but I love how lively it gets. I ordered 16 banh mi sandwiches on 11/15/2024 through Yelp for a 11/16/2024 pickup, with specific instructions -- no onions or jalapeños on specific sandwiches, and asked to label each sandwich using a code I provided in the order (important due to onion allergy). When I picked up the order, NONE of the sandwiches were labeled. I went back to point this out to the guy who handed me the order, and his excuse was, "I didn't have time to label." Then he actually said, "Can you just open each sandwich?" Are you kidding me?? The onions and jalapeños were buried between the meat and pickled turnip. How am I supposed to disassemble each sandwich to figure out which one is which?? I explained to him that one parent is allergic to onions and I asked for a replacement for just ONE (1) sandwich (#5 Grilled Pork, NO ONIONS). I ended up waiting over 30 minutes and missed my team's volleyball match just because I had to argue with him. He was completely hard-headed and unwilling to acknowledge the mistake. Walked into here for the first time because i was craving a bahn mi and it was close to SJSU. It was empty but the setting was nice and cute and there was also nice music playing. I was welcomed in and the person taking my order patiently waited as I was looking through the menu. I ordered the #14 Steamed Pork & Pate Bahn Mi, but for some reason it was not on the menu screen. I took my $9 sandwich home and was so happy about the size! I asked for my sandwich to be with everything and to be cut into thirds. Lee's sandwich shop was a quick stop for lunch while in town for an event so made the walk over to order up since the online order was not available until 6pm. Instantly you knew why it was a bit unorganized in the ordering and order come out process. Multiple people saying I ordered this and got the incorrect item and I'm talking a chicken skewer ordered ended up coming out as a sandwich. After getting through the ordering process you get your number and each item gets called out one by one rather than getting the entire order out in one so you end up with 5 bags. The food was tasty, the #6 bbq pork bahn mi wasn't the best I've had but it was tasty, the bread had great texture and balance of crunch and chew and the filling paired well with the sweetness from the pork, the vinegar punch of the picked veggies and the spice from the jalapeño paired well. The sandwich was a great size for the price as well and filling so a bargain if you split it or save half for later on the day. The spring rolls were refreshing and fresh with a balanced peanut sauce for dipping. All in all a good meal but with the now open sign out front I think some time to fix some of the kinks out would make it even better. read more

I live right by Lee's so I pass by very often. The food is delicious especially at such an affordable price and I love their signature Iced coffee it's like they put crack in it. Usually I'll order the #1 or #11 before/after I go to work but I went with the spring rolls today and they gave me one free since it was BOGO. One box only had 2 rolls so he was kind enough to offer the sticky rice for free to make up for it but I declined since I felt like the free rolls were enough anyways, but he still included it (as a broke college student this meant a lot haha).
