Review of Left Coast Tile: I just finished a big tile job outside, about 535 square feet of 12x24 tile. David H of Left Coast Tile did the work - both the demo of the old tile and install of the new tile. Not an easy installation, several arcs and a circle to tile requiring great precision. A lot of cuts that required patience and skill to complete. He did the job and delivered a great final product for a reasonable price. I got his name and recommendation from Arizona Tile in Mira Mesa, so I knew he had to be top notch. I am adding pics of the job to give you an idea of his work. Pictures can't tell you how difficult the demo of the old slate tile that was over 40 years old and in poor condition. It took 4 men 2 days to get it all up. Way more than anyone would have imagined. Came out in 2 inch bits! No whole tiles at all came up at all. Hard work. I recommend Dave highly! read more

Dave at Left Coast Tile did a bathroom renovation for me 10 years ago at my house in San Diego and did a great job. I was living on the East Coast and renting out my house at the time. Dave communicated with me every step of the way so I knew what was happening. He did an excellent job on the bathroom remodel, installing new tile for the shower and wainscoting for the walls. He installed a new bathroom vanity to replace an very clunky old wall sink and replaced the old vanity mirror with a nicer mirror that I purchased. He even took care of returning the excess unused tile to the tile shop so I could get a refund for the tile I didn't need. a few months ago I was looking for estimates to redo some tile in my home, I contacted several companies off of yelp, most of whom didn't answer the phone or even respond to me voicemails. Left Coast is one of the companies that completely ignored me. I left several messages over a week or so. No one ever answered the phone and no one bothered to call me back. It seems that every tile setter in San Diego is too busy for new jobs. I ended up using a company with FAR more 5 star reviews than Left Coast and I couldn't be happier. Dave truly brings the enjoyment back into a re-model. He is on-time to the minute, organized, and he does exceptional work. I have yet to find another contractor that truly takes pride in each job and always does the right thing when hurdles happen without missing a single detail (I say when because there are always hurdles). Example: When doing the bathtub install during the second bathroom remodel, Dave and the plumber found a pipe that was leaking with a little mold. Dave documented what had happened, fixed the leaky pipe, met with the HOA President that was on-site, and he helped with the mold removal/drywall install. Dave did my master bathroom first, guest bathroom second, and now I am having him come back to do my kitchen floor. I would recommend him to my mother. =) She actually was visiting during bathroom upgrade and wished she could use him in Northern CA. If you live in San Diego, you are lucky to have access to Dave. In my Kitchen remodel (Not Dave), I often felt lucky if I got what I paid for. Usually I felt like at least a few short cuts were taken. Dave of Left Coast Tile & Stone was just perfect. Everything you could ask for in a contractor...super nice guy, conscientious, clean, really high quality work and fairly priced. He did our kitchen backsplash (mix of ceramic and marble tiles), and faced our new fireplace with Ledgestone. Each of these projects came with their own challenges. Backsplash material was very expensive with little excess for waste, had unusual shapes and just required more time and care than normal. Fireplace stone was relatively cheap and not the highest quality and easy to break. In both cases, Dave did a phenomenal job, taking the appropriate care with the expensive backsplash material to make it look as good as it could, and putting in extra effort on the fireplace (mitered corners, breaking apart pre-fab sheets, filling joints with setting material) so that you would never know the material wasn't the best. I would absolutely hire Dave again if we needed more tile or stone work and highly recommend him. read more

Dave at Left Coast Tile was amazing! I called several contractors when I was looking to redo my ugly 1980's tile in the bathrooms and kitchen. Dave came out the next day (Friday) to do an estimate and then apoligized that he wouldnt be able to get me the estimate until Monday. As if I expected him to work on estimates over the weekend! He arrived promptly, and took his time to walk me through everything. He asked me a ton of questions and explained all my options to me. I didnt know anything about tile and had no clue there were this many things I had to make decisions on. Dave even offered to meet me at the tile store to help me pick material. He wasnt the lowest bid I received but you have to have a good working relationship with your contractors, and I felt the most comfortable with him. Dave showed up in person every morning (and right on time) and updated me everything that he was going to do that day. It means alot that he showed up, I'm not sure if he's the owner but it was great to attach a face to the company; he took the time to meet with the homeowner every morning rather than just sending his crew to get the work done. The crew cleaned up after themselves, and other than having a beautiful floor, you would never have known that anyone was there! One more thing, I accidently wrote a check for $100 more than the price of the work, and Dave pointed it out. This just shows how trustworthy Dave and Left Coast Tile are! Dave just finished tiling two completely renovated bathrooms for me. He is amazing, easily the best contractor (in any speciality) I have ever hired (and I've hired many). From start to finish, he was superb -- he submitted a detailed bid for the jobs, and completed both on time. (His bid wasn't the cheapest I received, but it wasn't the most expensive either.) These weren't simple jobs: the tile is a large slate version, and each tile had its own character. Dave took the time to place the most interesting and beautiful tiles in the most visible areas, and helped me select the grout and seal styles that would show off the tile but also protect it in a bathroom setting. The job also included building a new shower stall, and David handled that meticulously, talking me through each step as he went. He's an absolute expert at tiling, but he's also got an artistic eye and a sense of how to show off the beauty of the tile. His assistants, Jesse and Matt, were also outstanding -- professional, careful with my cat, and overall nice guys. Just as importantly, Dave is incredibly trustworthy. There were times when I needed to leave the house, and I had no hesitation doing so with Dave, Jesse, and Matt working. I'd give them more Yelp stars if I could. We needed tile in the kitchen, bathrooms and entryway. Dave came out and gave us a comprehensive bid. He was very professional. He did what he said he would do and was here on time and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time, even having to work in the rain for part of the job. He worked with Jesse and both were very respectful and were careful to always close the doors so our cats wouldn't get out. We had a mix-up with the tile; the kind that came in wasn't what we wanted and Dave completely handled it and we got what we wanted, with no extra fee for restocking. I am so happy we ended up choosing left coast tile for our bathroom remodel project and kitchen backsplash. I got a couple of different bids from several companies but bids were received late, appointments were shown up to late, etc and that does not vibe with me well. After dave came by to look at our job we received a written bid within 48 hours. The price was reasonable in comparison to the others. He gave us advice while at the same time allowing us to choose the design. It is a little nerve wracking to choose someone to rip out your bathroom but Dave made me feel confident in his abilities every time we met to discuss the job. He was confident in offering advice while at the same time allowing us to make the ultimate decision. We needed advice since this was our first time working with tile. Strangely the other bids did not make me feel like they would guide me along the way like left coast did. When I requested photos of his previous work I received 50+ photos the next day. We also wanted the job to be completed while we were out of town and Dave made it happen. He worked on Labor Day so that the job would be completed upon our return. That really meant a lot to us since we only have one bathroom! During the entire process he kept us up to date by sending us photos. I was nervous about not being in town in case there were issues but he put any of my worries to rest. I have never ordered tile before and he helped us with exactly how much to order and recommendations on places to shop at. Every single appointment we had with Dave he literally showed up on the dot, very punctual. In the world of contractors it can be difficult to find someone with good organization and communication skills. He also clearly has lots of experience because our bathroom turned out perfect! I just have to say that Dave's work is FANTASTIC! I would use him for any tile or stone job in a second. He did a great job. He was on time and was very careful about keeping the house clean. Dave just finished taking out a 30 year old pre-fab shower and installing a tile shower at my house in Ocean Beach. Our project came out more beautiful than I could have imagined. I was so lucky to find him through Yelp after contacting several contractors who made appointments and didn't show up. Dave was here exactly at 8 a.m. every day.
