As a visitor to Montauk, looking to find a good specialty coffee shop, we were really happy to see Left Hand Coffee open for business during the off-season. Saw that Bluestone Lane is *not* open during the off-season, and I'm glad we could find something new. Left Hand has a beautiful space and I like their business mission: appreciation seems to be the key word. They are "artisanal brewers" and the shop and menu demonstrate their affinity for coffee and the area. I was surprised to see some not-so-great reviews, and that is what prompted me to Yelp this. The time we visited, contrary to other reviews I read, the service was fine. Friendly and attentive. To their credit, I noticed the customer ahead of me was pretty standoffish when ordering, and gave them some attitude about having "extremely high standards with my coffee." You hear that, and 9/10 the person is ordering a coffee with milk, or more milk than coffee. So go figure. I judged the staff on their ability to treat each transaction individually, and by that measure they did fine. The drinks came out very good: Yama-drip cold brew and cortado. Cheers guys. As I usually come out to Montauk once a summer I was super sad to see that the original coffee shop in this location, CoffeeTauk, was gone! But once I stepped inside I knew this place would be good. They have a lot of pastries and different types of coffees. Usually when trying a new spot I go with a black iced coffee, but I tried the iced latte. The coffee was very strong and bold, just the way I like it. My boyfriend got a black iced coffee and it was also very good. Service is friendly and the line moves quickly. There's a station with different types of sugar, cinnamon, syrups, etc for you to add and personalize yourself as well. read more

I was sad to see that Coffee Tauk had gone the way of the dodo, but approached LHC with curious optimism. It's nicely appointed inside, if not a tad bougie/pretentious, and feels more Hamptons than Montauk. I had a large iced coffee (12-16oz, couldn't tell) and although it was good, was not worth $5. The young servers had that sort of stoned indifference with a splash of TCS that makes me want to go postal, but I guess you can't be too surprised given the seasonality and wage labor options in the area. What annoyed me the most is that they don't have a bathroom for customers. Staff-only bathrooms at a coffee shop = epic fail. There aren't an abundance of good coffee options in Montauk, so although there are some warts that come with LHC, the coffee is good and it'll get the job done if you need a fix. read more

This place was cool. I wanted to pick up a bag of coffee for a gift and ended up stopping in on a whim while walking by. The place is cool - right next to a yoga spot and about a block from the water. When I went to the cashier they proceeded to tell me with the purchase of a bag of coffee, you get a free hot cup of the same blend. I had the Sinister blend and it was a fine cup of coffee. The employees were very nice, funny, and welcoming. I'd stop back in just to deal with the pleasant atmosphere for grabbing a cup of coffee. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst customer service I've ever gotten. I ordered a matcha latte and got an overflowing glass of milk with a slight hint of matcha. When I asked for a little more matcha because it was pretty much a giant glass of milk they gave me, i was told no and it's their recipe and if I want more matcha I have to pay. They just looked at me with the biggest attitude and refused to do anything to salvage the drink. Never again! read more

The coffee here is delicious. They have a really cool and neat cold brew system that is intertwined with reclaimed wood that looks like a tree. It's gorgeous and interesting to examine as you wait for your coffee. I must say there is a coffee crumble cake that is made by some lady at the farmer's market in town that is the best thing I have eaten in Montauk. It costs like $6.50 a slice but as the manager told me, it's worth it for the ingredients if you want quality. My least favorite time to go here is on the weekends in the summertime. I get mixed up with the city tourists who come in after their yoga sessions and they overtake everything. I just want my coffee and go. But we must wait for them to figure out what special tea goes with their basic personality today. I really love the smug and crusty Eastern European girls who work and roam the shop during the summer. Once or twice they've given me an aggressive tone, and once you give it back to them, they smile and their callous-ness disappears. I like that I was accepted by them by mid June because the locals here in town are so not welcoming to us city folk that come in and work in their economy in the summer/autumn. Coffee shops should welcome and encourage community, and even though this one doesn't really do it fully, I still love their coffee. I came back after summer to see a coffee shop in Brooklyn selling their coffee and it made me smile. I bought some. read more

Stopped in with a friend for a coffee today. I understand that most people working in the Hamptons would rather be doing something else with their lives, but despite a 5 star coffee, have to only give it 3 stars due to the nasty, curt dickhead behind the counter. It's coffee, dude. You're not a brainiac rocket scientist, so drop the attitude and just make the coffee. I live in the Hamptons year round. As the only coffee-focused establishment in this small town, there is no competition to beat. There isn't a coffee scene in Montauk...which is weird. I would think with all the late night parties and over-indulgence in alcohol during the holidays, there would be a coffee shop on every corner. Imagine all the hungover trust fund kids who need their lattes. Back to Left Hand...these folks play like there's a Michelin star on the line. I ran my usual litmus test of a cappuccino. Results were astounding. I finished the small drink before I reached the end of the block. It was well rounded in flavor, earthy, robust...delicious. Suddenly I had the strength to handle throngs of bros with their backwards visors and chubbies attire. If my friends weren't set on fighting the line at Goldberg's, I would have returned for a second round. Left Hand is a testament to the badass locals of Montauk. They craft a great brew all while quickly handling the influx caffeine-addicted tourists like myself. This is a place I look forward to visiting again. read more

Came to Montauk for the long Thanksgiving weekend and I was on a coffee withdraw since the hotel where I'm staying didn't serve good coffee. Went to town and saw this coffee shop and my oh my... Absolutely got that coffee fix. Got the caramel latte and it was just perfect. After walking around town I went back and tried their Nutella latte before heading back to the hotel. Both were delish! They lose a star, however, because there was only one employee working in the morning (9:30ish) and therefore the service was quite long. I waited for a while before I got my coffee. But overall this place is highly recommended. read more

Seems most reviewers don't like this hampton-ish place in Montauk. Well yes it is not cheap but you pay for the decor, atmosphere, nice layout. It takes $ to launch a place like this and I was glad to drop some dough to taste the famous $5 nutella lattee, and a gigantic café au lait (seriously, never seen anything that tall, $4.25 I think). Only disappointment was the cookie ($3.5). Stick to French pastries (croissant and chocolate croissant). read more

My first time here and was excited to see different variety of coffees. I ordered a Soy latte. The Latte was very weak and lacked espresso aromatic taste. Instead it tasted like a latte overpowered with flavored spiced cinnamon. The marble cake was ok, but a bit dry. read more

First time Montauk visitor I decided to try this place early morning. I walked in and saw they made dirty chai lattes and got excited. I ordered one and decided to try their delectable looking donuts. After paying $12 for both (Agh!) I walked out and took a bite of the donut. It was cold and hard (blah!). Than I took a sip of the latte and it was very weak. I was not happy when I walked away. With that said, my friend said their coffee was really good and she was happy with her turmeric shot. the WORST coffee shop I have ever been to. The customer service is beyond horrible and they seem to just be there to nickel and dime the customers. On an early Sunday morning I made a very simple order for one drink, which took the cashier 10 minutes to take notes, and then proceeded to get the wrong order, and when I asked them to heat up my milk the barista went to the register, looked at my order, and told me I would need to pay more money making the total for one espresso with milk $7.75. He also proceed to hold up the line for 15 people at 7am, instead of just kindly heating up my milk. If I had actually had a coffee and not been half asleep when I walked in there I would have thrown it back at them and walked out. GO ANYWHERE BUT THIS PLACE. High quality coffee, just be warned it isn't very strong. Two shots are standard in drinks that typically have three. Ambience is great and they have some interesting snacks for sale. In terms of atmosphere, it's my favorite coffee house in the area. read more

I had high hopes for this spot, the branding is rad. They sell Chemex and v60 supplies but ask for a pour over and you'll get a blank stare. The staff has no idea what you are asking for. So odd for a shop with beans that have pour over directions on the side. The espresso was ok, pretty dang expensive. I love this place but... Great coffee and fast service! Even if I am breakfasting somewhere else, I always go get my morning latte there. Today I stopped by and asked them for a cup of water along with my coffee since I don't like the bottled brand they sell. They charged me $0.92 for a plastic cup of tap water!!! Who does that? And even if you do so, tell me before you charge me for something that is offered everywhere else for free. read more

The 1 star has nothing to do with the coffee. I waited 15 minutes for 2 people ahead of me to place their orders. There were but 4-5 other folks in the entire shop, 2 behind the bar, and yet it took 15 minutes for my turn to order. After what seemed like an eternity of people ordering in slow motion, I ordered a soy latte. I was then told they do not carry soy. Ever. Who doesn't carry soy, ever? So after 15 minutes of watching people move and make decisions at a glacial speed, I leave empty handed. read more
