Left hand coffee was the most highly ranked coffee shop in Montauk so I wanted to give it a try. I came on a rainy day and was pleasant to find a small shared parking lot. The entrance is also shared - you have to enter the building before going through their actual doors. Upon walking in, I see that seating is very limited about 4-5 already all occupied. Another thing that caught me by surprise is how much other products they sell on the shelf and in the fridge. Once I walked passed those, I saw their actual products - coffee bags and pastries behind the glass. The employees did not greet me or give any recommendations. There were several of them behind the counter just standing in place. I took a minute to read the menu behind the cash register. It wasn't too big but had options. I ordered a vanilla latté. It was strong and good, not sweet at all. Definitely a good coffee shop, would come back to try other drinks and baked goods. As for the aura, the place is a bit dim and was crowded with products on shelves on one side and people sitting on the few chairs available on the other side. Wished it was a bit more welcoming!

I was excited to try this place, since I was in town for a couple of days and had heard it was good. I came with my friend to check it out and it was quite crowded. The line moved quickly, but I felt very rushed when I got to ordering. The ambiance of the space is very nice with some places to sit and cute (but overpriced) merchandise. It's very instagrammable. I deducted some stars because the matcha latte was just not good. It tasted mostly like milk and hardly had any matcha flavor coming through. I might try something else if I come again.

I ordered a Vanilla latte with pistachio milk from here while visiting. It was the perfect ratio of sweetness for me, not too sweet and creamy with the pistachio milk. They had some delish looking pastries including a couple of gluten free ones but I had just had lunch. They also have matchas and other coffee drinks that looked good. My coffee came out pretty quick less than 5 minutes so I appreciate that. I would definitely come back when in Montauk.

Owner replied and asked how can a latte taste sour? You're a coffee shop - don't you know coffee can taste sour if it's under extracted? Coffee is acidic.... As a matcha enthusiast who has enjoyed lattes both in NYC and Japan, I was excited to try the matcha latte here. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing and might be the worst I've ever had. The flavor was off, it didn't taste like matcha and had a strange fishy taste that I had never encountered in a matcha before. Despite trying to salvage it with a ton of honey and simple syrup the drink just ended up overwhelmingly sweet, to the point where I couldn't finish it. My friend also ordered an iced latte, which sadly fell short as well - it was very watered down and lacked the aromatic richness I expect from a good coffee. The staff were friendly which I appreciated. However, given the quality of the drinks, I'm disappointed and don't see myself returning.

Pretty solid coffee beans and milk options, and cute vibes/interior. Located right by the beach which is nice. Got the macadamia milk flat white which was delicious, and the macadamia milk dirty chai, which was OK. Chai tasted a bit sweet/artificial, so I would just stick with the basics.

Nothing above average. Just a coffee shop. I definitely wouldn't run back but if i was in a pinch I wouldn't mind. Thought I would add a photo for giggles. I didn't even think to add about the service because everyone's experience is different. But the customer service definitely goes with the owner's attitude. I have no desires to go back now. We visited Left Hand Coffee for our morning brew and pastries. The cold brew was solid (if not particularly unique), and the pastries were decent as well. The shop is cutely decorated, and has a couple of seats if you're looking to enjoy your drinks in house. Overall, a solid coffee option, and possibly the best we tried in the area. read more

Went in the off season, on a weekday. The espresso was delicious and they have non dairy milk which is a plus for me! Limited indoor and outdoor seating. I got a Nutella latte with macadamia nut milk, and it was super yummy! Service was quick and friendly! Street Parking in the front and near the beach! Good coffee and good people. Staff was super on top of customers to wear their masks properly to ensure everyone else's safety in the cafe, nicely asking customers to wear a proper and correct mask while waiting online. Service is as fast as it can be given the weekend crowds this place attracts. Well worth the wait if there is one though! Their cold brew is the best I've had especially in Montauk and they even have 32 oz growlers to take some home with you on your way out of town. Tons of non dairy milk options. read more

Cool, laid back, very hip. Remarkably open on New Years Eve (I believe it closed on New Year's Day until April) I can imagine this place is jumping during the summer, but on a fine, cold winters day it was nice and peaceful - notably good hot chocolate. Liked it. read more

Only been here once and ordered a Cold Brew. It was incredible. I'm a big Starbucks Cold Brew drinker and this matched Starbucks quality. The place inside is beautiful with ample seating. The only thing that annoyed me is I asked for light ice since it was going into a tumbler and the girl refused to honor the request. I got a cup full of ice with the coffee poured on top. I expect better service for a $6 medium sized coffee. read more

Left Hand makes excellent hot chocolate. I love getting a hot chocolate here after surfing especially when the weather is cooler. They also have healthy coconut yoghurt and pastry options. My wife loves the matcha drinks and the dirty chai. read more

The coffee is good, but the cashier is not the best service taker. Went there this afternoon, and couldn't figure out what was up with the cashier, when I got to the front of the line. I stood there for a couple of mins, and noticed the cashier staring past me, when she didn't say a word, I finally said, "can I please order?", which she said, "sure. " Not, how may I help you or, I'm sorry, got distracted. Make sure to ask immediately for what you want, because the cashier will ignore you, until you ask to order. read more

There were things on this menu I wanted to try but I couldn't stop ordering the cold brew every time I went. One day I will broaden my horizons. I'm looking at you, iced nutella latte. (come ON with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!...I'll order that after my wedding is over and I'm done having to fit in my dress.) Service is friendly and helpful. Menu is vast. Space is cozy and I would hang there all day if there weren't so many other fun things to do in the area with a group of friends. But we consistently fuel ourselves through our Montauk shenanigans by starting each day here. And I wouldn't have it any other way :) read more

The coffee is fine but the customer service and staff are not. Ordered a turmeric latte not realizing it had coffee in it (was thinking it would be a golden milk latte, should have clarified). When I went to tell the staff I can't drink coffee and I wanted to exchange it, they gave me some serious attitude and told me I have to purchase a new one (mind you I just spent $7 on a coffee). Not the kind of service usually received at a coffee shop. read more

Every time we are in montauk we make a point to stop in LHC for a cold brew. It is quirky cool coffee house and usually the cold brew in on point. My wife stopped in this time to pick the family up some breakfast and of course w cold brew. She ended up pouring too much cream in mine BC the creamer top was loose. She knows I don't like my coffee too milky so she went back up to the cashier after spending $30+ and told them what happed and asked for another please. They said yeah sure no problem and proceeded to charge her another $6.50 for it. She argued for a moment but then just paid. What made me mad enough to write this was they even took the other one back. The nerve of a business to do that is just rude. Where has the art of customer service went? read more

I had a matcha latte and bae has the turmeric latter. The vibe was slightly stuffy mostly because when I asked where the matcha was from, the barista responded with an attitude. My matcha latte was OK. I used almost milk and it likely had vanilla flavor which overpowered the matcha. Bae loved the turmeric latte although I found it to be a bit too sweet. The matcha made me depressed it wasn't good. Like I was bummed from it all day... It tasted like water. Literally no flavor. I love matcha and after spending $8 I just felt kind of sad and dumb. If you are visiting for a weekend, Left Hand coffee is a must-visit. They have the best cold brew I've ever tasted as well as a wide variety of milk alternatives. It can get packed so go early !! The staff is super friendly and the cafe itself is well-designed and serves beach/surfer aesthetic . When you can't get out east I definitely recommend ordering beans from their site -I've been super impressed by their customer service and speediness of shipping and will not drink anything but their camp hero at home. read more

Came here for a Coffee Tauk cappuccino this morning only to be shocked when it wasn't there anymore. Left Hand apparently took this place over during the winter months and opened about 4 weeks ago. The entire place has been revamped and changed around stylistically - very rustic and cabin-like. Dark wood and wide planks. A huge change from Tauk's natural vibes, so it's a bit odd when you walk in (especially if you're a Coffee Tauk native). The workers are still there from CT, and they're still nice people, of course. I got the cappuccino (my usual measuring stick of a coffee spot), and my wife got the coffee. She didn't like hers at all (I'm sure she'll review), but my cappuccino wasn't bad - just okay. It definitely had some strong flavor, but tasted a bit off. I can't put my finger on what tasted off specifically, but it wasn't a usual cappuccino taste. However, as the drink went on, I didn't find myself disliking it as much. It sucks that this is the only real coffee spot in Montauk, and of course I'll be back due to demand with short supply. I'll give it more of a shot with their other drinks and update as needed. read more

The staff here at Left Hand coffee is the reason for the 2 star review-- they were extremely rude and condescending. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee which was milkier than I expected. I kindly asked if I could exchange my drink for a cold brew (cheaper than the Vietnamese coffee) because I didn't expect my drink to taste the way it did. The girl got extremely defensive and said "well, we didn't make the drink wrong". I assured her I didn't think they made the drink wrong, it just wasn't my thing. Then, they tried to charge me a $2 "refill" charge for the cold brew even though I returned my original drink. This would never have happened at any other coffee shop in NYC or frankly anywhere else I've been. I just felt uncomfortable about the whole situation and the staff overshadowed the actual coffee. My husband was a big fan of the Yama cold brew. read more

Visiting from Brooklyn. First time in Montauk. As a moderate coffee snob, I would say this is definitely your one and only option in the area. They pulled an excellent cortado (little large for my taste but tasted great) and the drip coffee (uploaded pic) was amazing. Includes standard hipster architecture, font, name and raw coconut water. Good tea selection too. Bellocq brand. read more

This is a tough one. The decor is totally "we're Starbucks without being Starbucks." Chalkboard paint, raw wood, etc. Only 4 chairs. Very Hamptons attitude. And definitely $$$ That being said...omg. The Nutella latte is to die for. I want a dozen of them at once. And the large cookies are worth the calories. Definitely give them a try! read more

I had the iced nutella latte, and my coffee snob boyfriend got an iced coffee. The coffee also wasn't good, especially since it appeared to be freshly brewed from a canister, so I was surprised by the taste. The one bright spot was the chocolate donut as it was delicious and easily the best thing we ordered. We spent around $60 for just these four items, so we left feeling pretty disappointed. I hope this was just an off day because there's definitely room for improvement. Employees were very sweet and nice.

Now we don't venture all the way to Amagansett often, but we like to head out to Montauk once a year, and social media presented a cute coffee shop to stop at on the way, Bonfire. Cute could definitely be the word, especially the exterior of the place with some shaded seats on their deck and the small grassy courtyard that encompassed them and the neighboring storefronts. The vibes worked, though many other factors were more iffy. I'll try to focus on the other good options in that the menu of Bonfire is intriguing from their coffee and food options as well as gelato. I'll also say the staff, despite a small snafu (more on that in a sec), were able to take orders and keep things going. I'll even say that on first sip of my coffee I was wowed, but that's just what you see on the surface level. Underneath those positives was a pricier coffee spot with my wife's blueberry whip latte coming in at $11. Between that, a chocolate croissant, and my own latte we spent $27 which is a little much for what we got. Yes, eastern Long Island can be pricy, but dang. As for my aforementioned coffee, I got the Bonfire Latte which combined vanilla, hazelnut, and cardamom flavors to create what started as a truly delicious taste, but after a few sips once the flavor punch wore off, I would've at least expected a coffee kick in there. Honestly, there wasn't much. The real sign this was true was my wife who prefers a little more sweetness than coffee taste in her drinks saying that she couldn't taste any coffee in hers either. Oh and that croissant while soft and flaky, definitely felt like the chocolate could've been a little more melted in to it as I pulled out a whole piece when trying to tear it for my wife. One last item about the croissant was the fact that we ordered it and no one gave it to us. Our coffees came out relatively quickly despite the place being somewhat busy, but we stood and watched a few people who ordered after us get their stuff before I had to ask about the croissant which seemed to have been forgotten about. Oy. Overall, Bonfire Coffeehouse presents itself as a lovely eastern location to get some morning brews and then some, but perhaps it's not as fantastic as the facade it showcases. I'd like to try them one more time in the future, but that'll be a long time off (probably not til next summer) and that's if I feel like it's worth the price and I'm willing to believe the lack of coffee flavor was a fluke. Head out on the south fork and you be the judge.

I'm sorry but the prices are getting sinful around here and it's sad because I love to eat out and have done so often but lately, not so much. :-(

Only thing worse than the coffee is the creep of an owner. His employees have about as good of a personality as him. Such a shame that a great location in a great town is run by such losers. If your review is anything less than 5 stars they will mock you in response instead of acknowledging that there is room for improvement. They don't even allow the option to respond back to them. Last time I left a review I was told I need to be medicated lol this man has no experience operating a business and clearly has had everything handed to him.
