We ordered the chicken egg foo young based on reviews, Kung Pao Chicken, love mein, mixed fried rice, orange chicken and won ton soup. Everything was fresh. The restaurant is clean. The only problem is the food lacks flavor. It's not bad at all, it lacks pizzazz. It didn't taste salted or peppered, no roasted garlic flavors or anything that stood out.... I really want to give this place a better review but everything was just ok. read more

The setting is nice and open, neat and looks clean. There were several seated diners, yet we were greeted immediately and seated promptly. Their menu looked like any other standard Chinese food menu, but I must say that their special dinners were REALLY fresh and flavorful! We ordered the cashew chicken (just a bit too heavy on the sauce)and the chicken with bean sprouts. Plenty of hearty pieces of chicken in each dish and the water chestnuts and sprouts were nice and crispy. Their fried shrimp was a tad too over breaded for my taste, but everybody else loved them. Walked in looking for chinese food. Asked if they had gluten free options. They said they didnt know what gluten was. Then the person went back and spoke to someone who told him their soy sauce was gluten free because it was made from soy beans. Normally Id say no big deal and find anoher item or leave but you dont lie to a customer that has allergies and will suffer from consuming certain food. Not cool. I'd give the place a zero star if I could. My review is just based on my experience so I can't speak to the food quality. Hadn't been here since Covid shut the world down, but we went back the other day and I wasn't disappointed! I noticed that they changed the beverage options on the daily specials to just iced or hot tea (no more soda), but that doesn't bother me either way. Tried something new...Egg Foo Yung. I've never had it and have always been a little intimidated but WOW! It is sooooo delicious! I got it with shrimp and it was the most delicious non-country comfort food I've ever had. They put gravy all over it and serve it with two scoops of rice so you can't even eat it all! Does heat up nicely for leftovers at home though! Now, I can't say I'm going to try it anywhere else, but I'll be picking that from now on! Employees are very nice here and they try to keep things looking nice. Honestly... pleasantly surprised! I am pretty picky with Chinese American food and was not expecting a lot but the food was great. Calimesa has such limited options it's nice to have something good! We ordered the Orange Chicken, broccoli beef, green beans stir fry, veggie bean platter, tofu stir fry and kung pow chicken. The portions were large and worth it for the price, about $10 for a family sized plate. Six of us couldn't finish all the food. The service was friendly and nice, there was just a few other customers in that day so no wait time. Out of everything the orange chicken was my favorite, I usually don't go for that but the flavor wasn't to much, it wasn't overly sweet and the breading was great! read more

I always stop here when I have to drive out to Redlands. I'm from the East Coast and I can't begin to tell you how happy I was when I found out they made AMAZING lo-mein. I do the combo myself. Served with chicken, shrimp, beef, pork, and vegetables - it's delightful. I usually order the steamed dumplings, wonton soup, combo lo-mein, and sometimes broccoli in garlic sauce. The portions are massive! The order for myself I can stretch for days. I meant to order fried dumplings once but ended up getting steamed dumplings instead and never went back. They feel delicate, lots of filling and the serving sauce? Whatever I don't use goes into plain rice or lo-mein. Most places will give you a large wonton soup with 4-5 wonton total. Here? There are enough wontons that I can have a bowl of soup for lunch for 2-3 days. The broccoli and garlic sauce I buy, eat a few then put them away. The next day breakfast is broccoli, garlic sauce on top of rice with an egg on top. Makes a great (and fast breakfast.) The customer service is great and always helpful if you have any questions. It's my favorite Chinese spot in the area, just go and try it. read more

Was very optimistic and excited to try this new offering in the old Tang's. I was doubly excited to see one of my all-time favorites on the menu, which was seafood in a bird's nest. I have had this many times over the years, but it's not all that common in restaurants around here. What makes the birds nest so appealing in my experience is the texture of the actual bird's nest and how it absorbs the sauce from whatever it contains... so, you end up with a tasty, part chewy, part crispy shell after working your way to the bottom through some pretty delicious preparations. Strangely, these nifty little bowls of deliciousness are made of potatoes. This is exactly how the dish was depicted on the photo on the menu. I'll come back to that in a moment. We ordered the po po platter... pretty typical stuff: crab rangoon, spring roll, ribs, chicken on a skewer, and "jumbo" shrimp... two pieces of each. It's pretty tough to mess up the rangoon and the spring roll... and the chicken was rather tasty. However, the ribs were super fatty and unappealing and there was nothing "jumbo" about the shrimp except the excessive amount of batter that was on it, making it about five times its normal size. Would not order this appetizer again. My husband ordered eggplant in garlic sauce, which I found to be very tasty and cooked perfectly. Very flavorful and tender. Would recommend, especially for a vegetarian. Now, back to that bird's nest dish... so, I'm sitting there all excited to have this seafood in a bird's nest as I haven't had it in years. What do they bring out to me? Seafood in wontons that have been fried to resemble a tostada shell... actually, looked EXACTLY like the flour tostada shell one might get in a Mexican restaurant. NOT like the picture and totally unlike any image of a bird's nest dish that you would find on the Internet... and, most importantly, totally NOT a bird's nest at all. We called the server over and I have to say they were good about taking it back and taking the charge off our tab, only after trying to persuade me that what I was seeing on the menu picture was actually shredded cabbage (upon which their wonton tostada was perched). That's just plain deceptive. So much for authenticity - at least for that item. Overall, the appearance of the place is clean and it has ample seating. I do find the food to be a lot fattier and oilier than one might get at a better calibre establishment. Sadly, we were disappointed overall and will not return or refer friends and family there. read more

After receiving the four large dishes to our small table, there was no room to place them due to our plates and glasses. I had to stack a plate on top of the rice bowl. We asked if we could bring a table over to make more room, and all she said was no and walked off. After I accidentally stuck my sleeve into a plate of noodles and giving her some dirty looks and me being vocal about how there were so many empty tables did she finally say, you want another table did we get a big enough table. My parents love this spot so we decided to try it. They're only doing pick up orders due to covid, but I was pleasantly surprised that they got everything right with our complicated phone order. Between the kids, and my 89 year old grandma's order (shes so picky!) I was sure there would be something mixed up or forgotten...nope. When I walked in they had sections taped off on a table with orders waiting in them. The cashier was completely blocked off by a clear barrier with only a small hole to move her pole with a basket attached at the end. You give your name, she gives a total, you pay, she shoots a receipt out in her little basket along with which lane number your orders waiting in, you grab it and go. It was very fast and efficient. The food was very good, made to order and very fresh. The teriyaki chicken was unlike any other chinese food restaurant I've ever had and i really enjoyed it. We also got the bean sprout chicken and while it wasn't much to look at, the taste was phenomenal. My hubby said the kung pao chicken was very tasty too.
