This was definitely a hidden gem in Charleston. Right off the main road - this surprised us. The chop cheese was incredible - comparable to those found in NYC for sure. The menu really highlights why and where each ingredient was put on the sandwiches. You can tell the chef put a lot of thought into this. Easy to order and any salad/sandwich can be made into a wrap or sandwich which is awesome. The service is super friendly and I loved the vibe in there, very chill and easy and I could walk to Marion park to eat my food on a bench. Only drawback was it was 16 dollars for a sandwich with no side and no drink. Every once in a while, you find a true diamond in the rough and it just about floors you. That's how I felt after a fabulous eating experience at Legend Deli! This unassuming little deli on George Street is cranking out sandwiches which take flavor to a new level. The vibe is casual and relaxed as you are greeted with broad smiles and friendly service. You can feel the pride the employees share. They have an absolute huge amount of drink choices and plenty of chips to choose from including my favorite, Zapp's Voodoo chips. First, we started with their appropriately titled G.O.A.T. This turkey sandwich is piled high with tender black pepper turkey with whipped goat cheese, onion jam, arugula and red pepper mayo on toasty sourdough bread. The sandwich was much larger than I expected, and the flavor profiles are phenomenal. It definitely earned its name! Our next sandwich was the Jabroni. This Italian sub truly delivers on taste and portion size! It has tavern ham, sopressata, genoa salami covered in whipped ricotta and topped with tomato, red onion, pepper relish, shredded lettuce and house vinaigrette on a hoagie roll. Adding the whipped ricotta was pure genius as the creamy cheesy texture pairs perfectly with the spicy meats! Italian grandmas would be proud! Next, we tied the Legend of Shai Le Boeuf. A play on a French dip with a generous portion of roast beef topped with red wine braised onions, creamy horseradish, arugula, and melty provolone cheese with a side of garlic au jus for dipping. It had to be one of the most falvorful french dips I have ever enjoyed. That garlic au jus is definately legend. We finally finished up with the Pretty Fly for a Ribeye their take on a cheesesteak sandwich. It has of course shaved ribeye with grilled onions, peppers, and the twist of pimento cheese on an Amoroso roll. The steak was plentiful and super tender requiring little to no chew. The melted pimento cheese was so ooey gooey it just melted in your mouth. I would definately rate it as one of my go to cheesesteaks. I saw amazing reviews and had to try this place even though I've never heard of it after living here for 3 years. FYI that usually means its a tourist trap for those visiting. I went in ordered a sandwich(The GOAT) from the girl in the front who is either intoxicated or who knows what. I ordered with light mayo and no goat cheese. When I got home and opened the sandwich I genuinely couldn't believe the amount of mayo. It was literally a MAYO sandwich with a little meat. I called the store and spoke to the exact women who took my order 5 mins ago and she didn't remember it even though there were only 2 customers in the store. Her exact response "What, I mean I guess you could like come in or something." So I now have to drive down king street again and look for parking for the next 20 min to fix a sandwich that a girl couldn't enter into the system right.
