Went in to 5 loaves today around 2 pm and sat outside. It wasn't very busy. No one approached us or looked our direction for over 20 minutes watching everyone else being served but us until we went inside and reminded them we were out there. Waitress tried to take out order while standing in side the restaurant insisting she didn't know who our server was and that she would find out. We made her come back to table so we could order like normal customers. She came back took all the orders at once and only came to check on us only when dropping something off. Food was alright, charged for an extra dressing and bread was as soggy as your first ex wife. For the inconvenience she offered us a free cookie which she brought out still wrapped not even warmed or on a plate. Funny thing is I was paying with a gift card from a previous messed up order where we picked up and they forgot to add the extra protein on all of our salads then when they remade the order they somehow did it again. The drinks we got were gross but she didn't ask and at this point we were over it. 71 dollars for a mediocre meal and bad service with a waitress who could care less if we lived or died. Funny after already having to give this place another shot from the previous mishap. Oh, the table next us was being served, got their food and drink before us and left before us as well. Everything slapped! I mean... Every. Single. Thing! OMG... Sooooo good! Went for Charleston Restaurant Week and it didn't disappoint. Chosen the roasted carrots with whipped feta to start, the shrimp & grits with a tomato wine sauce and for dessert the raspberry almond shortbread. Everything was Gluten Free and delish. They have a new almond encrusted Pork Tenderloin and it is probably the best new addition to the menu. So tender and tasty! Also that GF cornbread is simply the best! I've been coming to this Five Loaves Cafe for the last fifteen years and I've never once been disappointed in anything I've ordered. If anything, I'm often caught off guard by how they continue to wow me with new flavors of soups and sandwiches. From time to time I will branch out, but my go to order has become a half FLC Caesar and a bowl of potato, broccoli and cheddar soup. Plus I get some bacon on the side and crumble it into the soup. It's a perfect lunch or dinner. I also love that they have unsweetened, but still flavored iced tea. Usually it's raspberry, but I think I've had peach as well. It's so delicious and refreshing with my meal. They offer great service with a good price, plus most of the menu is pretty healthy as well. read more

I am ent to Five Loaves on a weekday afternoon around 2 pm and the place was relaxed but still pretty busy. I got a corner table and was able to do some work with my laptop using their free WiFi while I had my late lunch- pretty sweet setup. I had the half arugula salad with white balsamic dressing and half marinated chicken sandwhich. They were both very good. Next time I would ask for the bread to be untoasted. They toasted it with butter and pesto on it but I would prefer just bread. read more

Service was amazing! Our server was attentive, friendly, and incredibly helpful in answering all of our questions. The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Even the half portions were surprisingly generous and filling. My only suggestion would be to offer a half-salad and half-sandwich combo option. Ate there two nights in a row while visiting familky in the area. Plenty of choices, quality cuisine, great service. Night one (no pic), we had the gnocchi appetizer and the portobello burger. Night two (pix) included the chicken feta meatballs (BIG YUM) and grilled asparagus, as well as the thai coconut hot pot with salmon. We got the red wine braised short rib and the tri-colored tortellini (both were really good, but I liked the tortellini more!). I would not order the bruschetta again - it was a special. I chose this place because it was close and the parking lot was packed -- usually that means good food, right? The soup sampler came in the cutest little teacups and was honestly the highlight of the meal. We shared the Ultimate BLT sandwich, but the bacon was cold and tasted straight out of a Costco package. The sourdough was good, but the sandwich itself fell flat. With how crowded it gets, I'd say skip the wait and grab takeout. With so many options in the Charleston area, I don't think we'll be heading back before we enter our trip, so hopefully your meal is a rockstar meal! read more

I was a huge fan of the Five Loaves downtown and was super sad when they closed. I finally had some extra time for lunch during the week and checked out the Mt pleasant location. The location is big with lots of indoor tables, booths, bar seats, and an outdoor covered patio. Seating was quick and service was great as usual. I had the half smoked salmon salad and three soup sampler. The soups are fantastic - I particularly like the tarragon crab and the broccoli and cheddar. The salmon salad was very good and the half portion was sufficient for me. Overall a great visit to Five Loaves and I'm hoping to make it back soon! read more

As always, Five Loaves Cafe was amazing! We had to wait about 35 minutes, but I was fine with it. I ordered half the FLC Caesar salad which always has fresh, healthy greens, delicious tortellini and an amazing, light dressing. The potato, broccoli and cheddar soup was creamy and excellent, I just wish it had more than one piece of broccoli. My boyfriend also enjoyed his FLC Caesar and Mexican chili soup. The chicken was a tad undercooked though, which is why I am only giving today's visit four stars. It was extremely busy, so I'm aware that every restaurant and person has an off day. Great ambiance and a large parking lot. Portions seem to be a bit larger at the Summerville location though. read more

Popped in for some takeout and was pleasantly welcomed by the most knowledgeable and friendly cashier. Since it was my first time there, she helped talk me through the delicious options. Went with the broccoli cheddar potato soup, and also half of a chicken salad club on a croissant, and the arugula goat cheese salad. The soup was creamy and comforting. The salad was OK, full of goat cheese, beets, and carrots. The chicken salad croissant took the cake, though! The chicken salad itself was delicious, and then the bacon and other tasty bits on the soft croissant came together so beautifully. Today was my first time trying Five Loaves Cafe!! I've been hearing about it forever, but I have just never taken the steps to go! My new friend, and I sat at the bar and had glorious conversation, terrific food, a wonderful cocktail, and a fabulous bartender/waiter!! I couldn't decide on which salad I wanted, I was down to two. The bartender suggested the eggplant fritter salad with avocado ranch dressing and it was delicious. I ordered the half size and a cup of tomato tarragon, soup with crowns. It was delicious and filling, and I even had enough to bring home for a snack later tonight. I ordered my husband the Reuben to go has been for tonight as well. They have special gift cards at Costco where when you buy a certain amount you get a $10 bones for free. They also run a special there in the restaurant and sometimes on Saturday you get $20 instead of just $10. I've eaten at both the Summerville and now Mt Pleasant Five Loaves Cafes and I find both to be just okay. For this trip to Mt Pleasant I had the spinach Mediterranean salad with shrimp and the tomato crab soup. Both were fine, but nothing special. Our server was nice but disappeared a lot and didn't check on us after the food was delivered. We needed a few things (my salad had salmon instead of shrimp), so we just sat until she finally came by. To be fair, they were busy so I'm sure she was helping others. I understand why people eat here. It's a nice quick lunch (with a nightmare of a parking lot). I think next time I'll visit at an off time. read more

Parking: they have their own lot and it's big enough for you to park. Service: The service was good. We've been here for brunch and this was our first time for dinner. Our server was professional and transparent on what dishes he would recommend. Food: Their special was the swordfish with cilantro lime rice and it was amazing! The swordfish was cooked well, the rice was a bit on the salty side, but with the strawberries going on alongside it, balanced out the flavor. I also had the cucumber chill and my wife had a non-alcoholic version of it which was amazing. Ambiance: Ambiance is always amazing. The lighting is warm to the point where you can focus on your food while also enjoying where you're at. Opportunities: Having a photo of their specials would be great. In typical restaurant fashion you'll see multiple dishes going by you and some might pique your interest, but the swordfish description did it for me. Overall: I'll be back for sure! Went here bc my husband wanted Panera but after seeing the reviews of our local one we realized we'd probably get better food out of a dumpster. To feed his soup craving I suggested 5 Loaves. So happy I did. For the 3 of us we were told a 20-25 minute wait but they sat us in under 15 mins. A couple of booths, some tables, large bar seating and a decent size outside space (more of for fresh air than a view). I ordered the carrot coconut vegan soup (don't let you mouth water bc the soup changes daily so it might not be there when you go). It was very simple but tasty. Tasted like it was just chopped carrots and coconut but I liked it . I paired that with a half salad that I added tofu too. It warmed my heart to see tofu as an option to "add protein". My son got the kids simple PBandJ with a side of fruit (so happy it wasn't the standard kids side of fries). My husband loved his Mexican chili and chicken salad sandwich. Will def be back. Nice to be full from lunch but not bloated and greasy stuffed feeling. Nice place for an afternoon date, meet for a drink, friends get together. read more

We ventured out in a pretty nasty storm to find dinner. Our original choice was closing when we arrived due to the storm, so we ended up coming to Five Loaves Cafe instead. I'm glad we ended up here! I got the Thai Coconut Hot Pot with tofu and my companion got the Chicken Parmesan. Mine was amazing! On a stormy night, it was the perfect blend of spices and warm creaminess and it was served HOT HOT HOT! I couldn't eat it for a few minutes after it was sat down - I'd rather too hot than too cold. The flavors were amazing and the leftovers I took home were even better in the morning after all the spices had the night to mingle. The Chicken Parmesan admittedly wasn't anything special - the tomato sauce sort of tasted like tomato paste and sauce mixed over a bland bed of noodles. The chicken wasn't bad or good, just sort of meh and the cheese on top was melted but wasn't hot enough to be stringy. I wasn't impressed by this particular dish. The service was kind and welcoming. At one point the lights flickered due to the storm and the staff assured us that even if the lights went out, they would still make sure we got food. I thought that was very considerate. It was well-attended by people all across the age range, and I felt a bit silly having taken a table not having quite grasped the seating situation. There were many choices, and I was happy for the option for half portions, allowing me to get their seasonal salad as well as a sandwich based on tofu prepared in olive oil. It's a very Southern way of doing tofu, but it worked, and getting it on a baguette was a good decision. My salad had a hearty mix of chickpeas and almonds and a sharp dressing. There was no half and half special or discount, but I got out of there for a price that wasn't crazy for what I got, which was delicious, quick and easy, and good preparation for an outdoor day. read more
