    Salmon Kama (collar)

We were seated pretty quickly for a walk-in party of 2 for a Friday lunch, though some of the specials (like treasure box) were sold out already. A cute little hidden gem in a very random strip mall. I've heard a lot of really great things about this restaurant and was really excited to try it! Tai Chazuke: snapper over rice with a delicious hot broth to pour over. I chose the tea broth option, though I think I would've preferred the richer dashi broth more. Fish was tender with a mild flavor. Yuba: tofu skin with sea urchin and a sweet soy sauce. I thought the tofu skin was so silky and refreshing, with the perfect amount of sweetness to complement the more subtle flavor of the tofu. Hokkaidon: on the specials menu with scallop and roe imported from Japan. The scallops were soooo good and the roe was perfectly marinated! The uni portion was larger than I expected, though I generally prefer other varieties of uni. Salmon Kama: marinated salmon collar. The yuzu zest was quite subtle, but the meat was very tender and fatty and quite a good portion. I liked the crispy edges of the skin too. Stone grilled beef tongue: incredibly tender and delicious. Just a bit of salt and lime really brought out the natural flavor of the tongue. Overall, they serve very high quality ingredients and each dish was executed wonderfully. I loved seeing dishes that I don't normally see at typical Japanese restaurants. I can't wait to come back to try some of their well known dishes! (Like the house made soba and treasure box special)

Came here with coworkers and got the lunch bento sashimi. It was the perfect amount for me and was very delicious. The cost was about $38 for a green tea and my sashimi bento. A little more on the pricey side but it is fish. This restaurant is also small and cozy. Very authentic Japanese food!

Nice izakaya with good food! We had a reservation so were seated right away. The place is quite small so not many seats. We tried the housemade tofu which was fun and the salmon which was so good. The chicken soba was ok. The price is a bit steep but decent izakaya food.

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Made a reservation for dinner and our table was ready upon arrival. Parking was plentiful in the private strip mall lot and dining was available indoors exclusively. The menu was large and the restaurant also had a few daily specials. Started off with the sea bream miso which was different. I was expecting a piece of fish inside some dashi broth. The agedashi tofu was tasty with a tempura mushrom. The assorted tempura was a generous portion and came with a few dipping accoutrements. The highlight may have been the grilled black cod which was buttery smooth and grilled to perfection. The grilled beef tongue was tasty too. The soba was light and best finished sooner rather than later since the hot broth kept on cooking the noodles. The panna cotta was a tasty way to finish off dinner. ~$65/head after tax and gratuity for dinner

What a cozy Izakaya! Not fancy, just small and cozy to give an intimate feel. Waiting staff was eager to accommodate and foods excellent. The booths were on the clamp side -- I was forced to sit straight. If it is a bit closer to home, I will probably come every week.

This restaurant holds a special place in my heart, as it's the first higher-end meal I treated my parents to from my first corporate job. I cannot rave enough about how EVERY. SINGLE. DISH. IS. DELICIOUS! The first time I had Leichi, I wanted to go back the week after because it was that good. Service (with reservation) is always on point and food comes out quick. The waiters are welcoming and open to answering any questions. My favorites are the tempura octopus, homemade tofu, cold duck soba, black cod, hojicha panna cotta, and assorted sushi. They ship their fish from Japan, so it's always high quality and fresh. The sashimi is literally melt in your mouth. The housemade tofu is fresh and has the rich soy flavor. My boyfriend isn't a big tofu guy, but even he loved it. The black cod is cooked with sake and a must try! Their ginger ale is housemade with their ginger syrup. I'm always grabbing two cups whenever I go! The hojicha panna cotta is rich, creamy, and always a great end to any meal.

I really enjoyed the ambiance as soon as I entered the restaurant. They quickly seated us on a Sunday night. I ordered chicken hot soba, eggplants, salmon cheekbone, poured tofu, chirashi and many other dishes. I love the traditional Japanese restaurants. If you like raw fish, it's the best place for you. The parking is very easy to find.

Came here with my husband for a lunch date and it was perfect. The restaurant is really cozy with tables separated by dividers. Here's what we got: Assorted tempura: 10/10 lightly coated and fried really well. It came with radish, ginger, and matcha salt. I will say the matcha salt just tastes like salt but it was fun! Harasu: 9/10 tasty salmon belly cooked perfected with crispy skin Sashimi bento: 9/10 sashimi was fresh Sweet raw shrimp: 10/10 they fry the head Potato salad: 9/10 the flavors are great but i don't love the texture over a bed of mixed greens. It was tasty but I wouldn't get it again given all the other options on the menu(:

A Bay Area staple that is 100% worth visiting. Small, clean restaraunt. Make sure you call to make a reservation, or come early around the first hour of opening to make sure you don't need to wait in a long line. Hot Sake is great here, as well as the Lychee Highball. Recommend getting both! FOOD: Special Chirashi Bowl (8/10) - Ingrediants (scallop, ikura, uni) were really fresh. Only downside was that the bowl is small for it's price. Hamachi Carpaccio (7/10) - Solid fresh fish, but not as fatty as other places I've had in the bay. Sauce is very good though. Yuzu Ikura (6/10) - Interesting solid starter, but I think the radish slightly overpowers the ikura. Good with rice though. Steamed Gindara (9/10) - SO good! Fish was so tender, fatty and fresh, and the broth was amazing. Vinegared Scallop X Octopus (7/10) - Small portion but the freshness of the octopus and scallop really shined through. Nasu Dengaku (10/10!!!!) - So good. So good! Will order 2 of these next time i come. Perfectly cooked eggplant with a sweet miso sauce on top.

Duck udon at top, tai salad(L), goma tofu(R), gindara saikyo black cod at the bottom

We did a random Saturday lunch walk in and were seated immediately. Meals are all so good and seemed more authentic than some fusion Japanese places. My top favorite dish has to be: - Gindara Saikyo (black cod steamed in sake)!! It's so tender and light; I can literally eat a couple of these. Overall, prices are good. Would definitely come back just for the fish and the goma tofu dish!

Loved this place! If you're looking for traditional Japanese cuisine and small plates this is the place to go. Service was quick and the food quality was great. Ordered the chawanmushi, salmon chazuke, the seared scallops, and the duck dipping soba. My top dish was the salmon chazuke. I also loved the soba quality but thought the duck portions could have been larger given the price. Would come back to try more items!

What a great find. My first time. I happened to go by the area and noticed this restaurant the last time with a waiting line and today I decided to try. Japanese owner, fresh fish from Japan Tuesday and Friday. A very pleasant dinner and the service is sincere and nice. I will comeback and told my sister that we need to be back.

I came here on a Saturday evening and was seated immediately at the bar. There were a lot of interesting items on the menu but I ended up getting uni topped tofu, cold noodles (recommended by my server), an ikura bowl, and the sashimi special. For one person, it was a good amount of food, and I did end up leaving some noodles behind. I felt that service was good, as I was checked in on multiple times, and that the food was excellent in taste and quality. The server offered to deep fry the shrimp head which I thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant itself is small and quaint and felt like an intimate space. I enjoyed all of the items I ordered and would return to explore other food items.

The bluefin tuna nigiri melted in my mouth I wish I ordered more. A standout for us was the Toni special roll which has your choice of fish inside with seared salmon and scallop on the outside. They are open late enough to accommodate my gym schedule and in the area. The service is always quick, maybe ten minutes wait after ordering, and each time I have went, the servers are attentive. Ambiance is on the quieter side after 8pm but I noticed it crowded on certain days. My go to is the deluxe tsukemen because it comes with thick juicy chasu pieces, gorgeous marinated egg and a nice warm broth. It's also one of the only places that I know that offers lime on the side which changes the flavor profile of the chilled noodles and cuts the heaviness of the dipping broth very well. I can't say it's the best tsukemen since I have only had this dish a few times, but it's a nice comfort food. Maybe one day I'll try the ramen.

You know how you get hungry mid afternoon, this is the type of spot to go to. I have been to Japan a handful of times, so this place has done well in terms of portions, without going overboard. The chashu was generous in terms of portions, fat and done well. It was a bit on the saltier side, almost too much, so just something to consider. I also had the Salmon + Ikura bowl. Combined with the chashu, it had the more saltier taste as well, but that is what happens with Ikura. The rice was warm, but I did wish there was a mor sushi rice type option, so it didn't overpower the salmon and ikura. This rice bowl, would be good on its own as well. Very much, a quick bowl, as you move on with your day in Japan. Always a tough balance with salt, so I would probably salt the chashu less in general, because all the flavors together would enhance the ramen flavor. The lime juice adds another layer of complexity with regard to the noodles. It was interesting and okay, but not a huge fan of it. But for variety, it works for a bit. I went back to the noodles without the flavor. While I enjoyed the Soup Wari (hot dashi-broth) at the end, I kinda wanted a little bit of the broth as I had my noodles. Just a personal preference. I waited until the end and it worked well, but by then, my meal felt too salty with everything. The bar bites menu was not on the main menu, so it might be nice to add it to the menu, or for the staff to point it out as an option. I would have wanted to try the agedashi tofu or edamame. Overall, a standard ramen style ambiance with a mix of customers from 1-4 table tops and ramen counter style options. Do come back when you want ramen, but without crazy temperatures in the ramen restaurants. They also have fans around the restaurant, just in case it gets too hot. There is a Teaspoon next door, so always an option before or after your meal.

The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion. For the food overall, it was a little bit under seasoned for me but for portion, price and quality are good.

They have some appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu, so we tried the gyoza, mochi and side tempura. The mochi had a house made sauce glaze that was sweet and salty, and came with nori as a wrap. The texture of the mochi was really soft and chewy. The gyoza were really crispy with a soft interior. We ended up ordering a second round of them. The tempura was nicely fried with not too much batter. The shrimp was really succulent and I liked that they have mushroom tempura too. The fried chicken skin was really nice and crispy, and came with a ponzu sauce and mayo to dip in. The yaki onigiri was nicely grilled and still had crispy bits when submerged in the soup. I was really excited that they have shishamo/smelt. It was nicely roasted and didn't have any overtly fishy flavor. Everyone at my table really enjoyed their food. Everything was simply prepared, properly cooked, and excellent. The squid was beautifully charred, the sausages were plump and blistered, and the shrimp were exceptionally crisp. We washed it all down with a bottle of chilled junmai sake. A nice touch: they bring over a basket filled with mismatched ceramic and glass sake cups so everyone can choose their own.
