First getting checked in and greeted by Kristine, she had such a fun personality, and was so welcoming, we knew it would be great, as well as she gave us some roses for celebrating. Where do I even begin with this place?! I'll be honest, I was a little iffy about coming here at first, especially because the reservation times that were available were super late. My friend really wanted to come here for her birthday, though, so we ended up going, and I'm SO glad we did because it was honestly worth it. The food was amazing. The meat was so tender, juicy, and flavorful, and everything we had was really good. But honestly, what stood out to me just as much as the food was the customer service. The bartender was absolutely amazing! I wish I had gotten his name because his drink recommendations were spot-on, and he was just so friendly and helpful throughout the night. We did have a little bit of a wait. Our original reservation was for 9:45, but we didn't end up getting seated until around 10:15 because some guests had shown up late. Someone did apologize to us about the wait, which I appreciated, and honestly, once we were seated, it was completely worth it. We also mentioned that it was two of my friends' birthdays, and they went above and beyond to make them feel special. They brought them ice cream, a macaroon with their names on it, and even gave them each a rose. my bf made a reservation for my birthday and it was the most beautiful restaurants I've ever seen. It's like you enter into a whole new world when you walk in it's amazing how it's designed. our server was very kind and helpful as that was our first time going and I wanted to know what dishes were popular and he definitely helped us decide which pates to get. The food portions are pretty big so it's all very shareable among a few people if you're going with a big group (we did not finish our food). We got the platter with pita bread, naan, and another kind of bread with dipping sauces around and that tasted so good, it all had so much flavor I really enjoyed it as a starter. We also got a dish that was rice but crisped on one side and had shredded meat (I forgot what kind) but I was not the biggest fan of it i believe it might've had raisins in it or something sweet cus I was getting sweetness which I wasn't expecting so it was more of a personal preference not that the dish tasted bad or anything. Our server did take a while like to get back to us and see if we needed anything else because he was busy managing other tables. We didn't get to try the dessert because we couldn't get a hold of our server and unfortunately had to leave but I definitely would come back and try other dishes on the menu and get a dessert as well. This was my second time coming here, so that shows that it's one of those places that's worth coming back to, just on the ambiance alone. The place is even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. I'm a Disneyland girl so as soon as I stepped in, the place reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean ride with its starlit ceiling, lanterns, and rock formation stone walls. Ambiance is 11/10 hands down. As far as the food, I think the presentation is on point with their platters, but the taste was only OK to me. Some of the dips were flavorful while others were a bit bland, so I give their appetizer platter a 7/10. As far as their Kabob platter, the cane with 4 kebabs, bell peppers, and eggplant over naan, along with rice and dips. The presentation was great, so I'd give it an 8/10. I have never had such a tender beef skewer before and wow, I was absolutely blown away. All tables were the night were booked up so we were lucky to be the first people there for bar seating. The inside was extremely beautiful! It's a really cool experience and reminds me of the restaurant that's inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland except on a greater scale. The interior and decor really set the atmosphere. The bathrooms were also super nice with sinks on the outside so people can wash their hands if they don't need to use the toilets. The food was amazing. We ordered different appetizers: Manakish Za'atar, Barbari, Tarator, Falafel, and Fire Roasted Cauliflower. Unfortunately, the service from the kitchen was terrible. The bartender was good and did what he could, although we were seated at the bar because we were told the restaurant was "too busy." I was there with my 85-year-old grandmother, and there were at least six empty tables the entire time we were there. The food didn't make up for the experience either. The kabob was dry, the food was cold, it took about 45 minutes just to get our appetizer, and over 1.5 hours for the kabob platter to come out. We didn't get to experience much of the ambiance since we were squeezed into a small bar area surrounded by drink runners, constantly making sure we didn't knock something over or drop our food. This was supposed to be a special dinner for my dad's birthday, and it ended up being a nearly terrible experience. The place is very much Instagram vs. reality. Leila has gone extremely viral and is all over TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Being Middle Eastern myself, I was genuinely curious to see what all the hype was about. From the videos and photos online, the restaurant looked absolutely beautiful, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived at around 10:29 PM literally about a minute before the kitchen closed at 10:30. Their listed hours showed that the restaurant was open until midnight, so we had assumed the kitchen would still be serving later and didn't realize food service ended earlier. There were quite a few open tables when we arrived, but since the kitchen was closing, we ended up sitting at the bar. Luckily, one of the bartenders let me know that we could still place a to-go order, which I really appreciated considering how close we were to closing time. We ordered two beef koobideh, two joojeh chicken, and two basmati rice. One thing to know is that the menu is very much à la carte, so depending on what you order, things can definitely add up. Are to go order was over $100. Don't expect the traditional Persian-style plate where your kabob automatically comes with rice, grilled tomatoes, onions, sabzi, bread, yogurt, and all the extras. Most items are ordered separately. The food did come with what appeared to be toum, or possibly a garlic-yogurt style sauce, which was very good. As far as the food itself, I have to give them credit it was very good. I am extremely picky when it comes to food, so the fact that I genuinely enjoyed it says a lot. The meats tasted fresh and flavorful, and the basmati rice was cooked perfectly. I will say the food could have used a little more salt & seasoning for my taste. I only wish we had been able to sit down and eat everything fresh and hot straight off the grill, because I'm sure the experience would have been even better. But considering we had to take it to-go, I still enjoyed the food. The interior is also nice and very nicely decorated. They have bar areas upstairs and downstairs, very small, and there's clearly a lot of attention to detail in the design. That said, I personally expected the restaurant to be much larger based on how it appears on Instagram and YouTube. In person, I would describe it as more medium-sized than gigantic. It's still very pretty, just not quite as massive as social media makes it seem in person it much more smaller. I can't fairly review the full service experience because we only interacted with the bartender, and our visit was so close to kitchen closing time. The one thing I did find frustrating was the amount of people who seemed to be there almost entirely for social media content. As someone who does not have Instagram and really isn't there for social media at all, it became genuinely annoying after a while. There were people posing, filming videos, and taking photos throughout the restaurant, and in some cases seemingly not eating or drinking at all. I completely understand that Leila is a very Instagrammable restaurant and that people want to capture the space, but it becomes frustrating when people filming start acting irritated, rolling their eyes, or getting upset because someone walks through their video. At the end of the day, it is still a restaurant. Some of us are there to actually eat, drink, spend money, enjoy the ambiance, and experience the food not participate in someone else's photo shoot. If you're filming in a busy restaurant, you also have to understand that other customers are going to walk by. Overall, though, I enjoyed the food and I would return. I'd like to come back earlier next time so I can actually sit down, experience the restaurant properly, enjoy the food straight off the grill, and get a better feel for the service. So yes despite not getting the full experience this time, I would absolutely give Leila another try. read more

It's like we stepped right back into the souks of Marrakesh we visited a few years ago!! What an immersive dining experience! The Saladin Platter and Soltani Platter fed all 3 of us with food leftover for another 2 people. We had the following cocktails: Red Sea Ritual which was great. This place definitely lives up to the hype. The ambiance is amazing - it's so fun and lively. Every attention to detail. The service is great too and I like the fact that you can see the open kitchen. The food was solid. I definitely recommend getting the Salatim platter so you can try all of the different appetizers - worth it! Plus you get to try all of the breads. The chicken tahchin was crispy rice and well cooked but I do think it la led some flavor. The dessert knafeh sundae was absolute perfection - so different and tasty. Try it! What a wonderful experience! A group of 4 had a special dinner at Leila on July 5 to celebrate my birthday. We all were very impressed by the restaurant, food, service and helpful attitude of the staff. Since the restaurant is relatively new, none of us had experienced it before, and we all highly recommend it! First, the ambience - you come in off the street into a different world, a desert oasis under a skylit roof where the stars dance above. The floor is set up like an oasis with a stream incorporated into the decor, where you can have a tasty cocktail while your table is set up for your group. The dining areas are under a nomadic tent so you have the appearance of Bedouin enclosure that is beautiful! Then there's the service - outstanding! A careful introduction to the menu and foods available, led by a knowledgeable server who is attentive to your food desires. We ordered the appetizer sampler with several humus dishes and naan bread plus pita bread. It was AMAZING! We asked for a second round of the tasty breads! The flavors of the sampler items were delicious and everyone loved them. Our dinner was the kabob sampler - beef, lamb, salmon and chicken. FABULOUS! We all left satisfied and sated with deliciousness. I must say the lamb was particularly good - well but lightly seasoned, tender and juicy. Desserts were ice cream dishes plus a birthday macaroon with Happy Birthday on it, along with my name.. it was a wonderful end to a beautiful event! read more

This place is all over social media for a reason! The minute you step in you feel like you're transported out of San Diego. It's so nicely themed and the ambiance was amazing. The server we had was 10/10, he helped us review the menu and choose the best items for our party! We got both of the platters and got to try a lot of the things they offered. The food is good, but people definitely go for the vibe! read more
