This is my favorite place to hangout when I stay in Little Italy. Such a cute restaurant with a great rooftop. I've tried a bunch of the food and not had anything I didn't like. My fave is the tuna poke though. The drinks are great and the staff never have any issues accommodating an ingredient substitution for me when needed. Coming here during the week I have never waited for a table and the staff have all been pleasant and attentive.

Really enjoyed this place! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything we tried was delicious, and the lobster flatbread was definitely the highlight of the meal. The atmosphere is fantastic. The bar is beautiful, and the entire restaurant has a stylish, well-designed interior that makes it feel warm and inviting. It's a great place to enjoy dinner, especially in the evening. The service was attentive throughout our visit, and overall it was an excellent dining experience. I'd definitely come back and highly recommend it.

Fun spot for a weekend brunch. We had reservations but waited about 10 min for a table. We ordered the chicken and waffles and pork belly Benedict. The chicken and waffles was okay, the chicken was a bit thin but the pork belly Benedict was delicious. Highly recommend. The best beverages here are the frozen margaritas, so refreshing for a rooftop vibe! There's a dj who places form 12pm-3pm, it was house music. I'd recommend playing bossa nova that's a missed opportunity with the cute tropical decor but overall, fun ambiance and perfect for a big group, good food and service.

We came to Coco Maya for my girlfriend's birthday with a group of about 16 people and had such a great time. The vibe is fun and energetic with a Caribbean feel that's perfect for celebrating. The service was pretty quick for our large party. We've been to Miss B's Coconut Club before, and you can definitely tell they're sister restaurants. If you like one, you'll probably love the other. The Caesar salad chicken wrap was absolutely incredible and a decent sized portion. We started with the coconut shrimp which were delicious, however the sauce is better at Miss B's. Our friends shared the truffle fries which is a great snackie order for large parties and their ketchup is super fresh. The drinks were good overall, but I'd probably skip the coconut margarita next time. One tip is to plan for parking ahead of time or just Uber because parking downtown is a challenge. We'll definitely be back!

Food was good, drinks were great, live DJ was awesome, and staff was friendly! When we first got there no one helped us out right away but once we got helped after about 10 minutes we ordered everything we wanted and it was great from there. It was super hot that day in San Diego so it was a bit hot in the restaurant as it is an open concept. But I do want to come back when it cools down! 10/10 recommend.

First time here. It's a cute trendy place, located on the 2nd floor right off the main strip of Little Italy. Parking can be difficult, street parking or park at a nearby structure. The space is not very big, but can accommodate small groups and there is an outdoor patio. Our server was friendly and attentive. She was quick and willing to make a change in our order. Our food came out in ample time. Everything was delicious! Good portions and flavorful. The poke was our favorite and the Pork Belly Benedict was different from your typical egg benedicts. I like the uniqueness of it: one toast with toppings on top. The potatoes were surprisingly yummy, too. Reservation is highly recommended.

Pork belly Benedict was AMAZING. First time here and it was the best choice I ever made. I almost ate the whole thing and I usually never finish my food. It was a very hot day make sure to bring a fan if your sitting out side of you get lucky the staff can provide you one. I came here for a birthday and definitely a great vibe for that. Drinks were great as well.

The rooftop at Coco Maya is a beautiful setting! Brunch menu had various options for everyone. Mimosa tower and espresso martini were wonderful. We did make a reservation, which I would recommend.

I loved everything about this restaurant! It's so cute, trendy, good music, good vibes, delicious food and drinks. I made a reservation but it wasn't really needed on this Friday afternoon. Service was a little slow but the food and customer service made up for it. It was a little warm outside so I switched tables to get a shady spot, the friendly host let me use the restaurants handheld fan to cool down :) I didn't have any food to take home because I devoured everything lol. If you are stuck between Coco Maya and Morning Glory, CHOOSE COCO MAYA!

This place was super cute and packed for a brunch. They had a DJ too! You have to look for the sign to know where the entrance is and then up the stairs. It was a super aesthetic place but the drinks and good was okay. I liked the cocomut shrimp and the house essoreso martinis were good. The cokes tasted unsweetened, the bread a little hard, and the ceviche was different but honestly it was so busy and the servers were soooooo nice and accomodating, their service made up for alot. Our server was Nelson and he made sure we got everything we needed and even brought out a churro dessert for Frankie's birthday.

Can I give this place 10 stars?! We were a group of six celebrating my bachelorette weekend in San Diego and were heading to brunch across the street from Cocomaya--but we were completely lost. Someone noticed and kindly asked where we were trying to go. He mentioned he was a cook at Coco Maya and suggested we check it out, and although we hesitated at first, we decided why not, even though it looked busy. When we walked over, we figured, why not give it a try? And honestly, we got so lucky--there was a table available for all six of us! But that was just the beginning. The service, the food, the drinks, everything was incredible. The views and ambiance were beautiful, the music was great, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. Our server was amazing, and everything came together perfectly. We even got the chance to thank the cook who pointed us in the right direction, so grateful he did! I will definitely be back. This place made my bachelorette weekend even more special, and I can't wait to come back again!!

Shrimp ceviche - disappointing. (Photo taken after digging in)
    Tina E.

I'm sorry to write this review, but unfortunately I ordered the ceviche and it was horrible. It was whole shrimps basically completely lathered in an exceedingly sweet and weird syrup that ruined the whole thing. I was so disappointed. Extra star for friendly staff, well-made drinks, and overall ambiance.

Ask the Community - Coco Maya

What time does food service stop?

    10 pm tonight.

    What is the average pricing?

The average drinks range from $12-$16. They do have more expensive drinks but Only 3-5 of them are expensive. We did not eat there so I don't know How much is the food cost.

    Is there an elevator?

    Yes

    Are they celiac friendly?

    Yes!

    How's the parking?

It's Little Italy so it can be difficult, but there are a lot of self park lots but can be costly if you can't find street parking.

    Is this place kid-friendly?

I would probably suggest taking your kids here either for breakfast , lunch/ early dinner. It gets crowed at night. Feels more like an adult hang out spot. There is no kid menu.

I don't see many vegan options on the menu - do you have a separate vegan menu, or vegan substitutions that are not listed on your website?

Unfortunately they don't; food selection is very limited at this time while they're still trying to find their groove. Otherwise vibe is great and the patio is the bomb.

    What are their hours?

Our current hours are listed on our Yelp listing, but I've added them here for your convenience. Please check the actual listing for our most up-to-date hours in the future as they may change.…

    Are there any vegetarian options?

Many of their menu items do not include meat and or dairy. Check out their menu on their website.

    Are dogs allowed up there?

Make a reservation if you know this is your destination. They have some spot on Tiki decor and the staff here is really friendly, happy to share their favorite drinks, or make suggestions based on your likes. If fruity drinks are not your jam... what are you doing in a Tiki Bar!! No really, they have great options for on the rocks or straight as well as ordering your favorite cocktail or beer. They have a ton of options, all sorts of alcohol bases depending on what your vice is, they also have non-alcoholic drinks for those so inclined. Hard to pass on a Mai Tai or a Zombie to start your evening off. lately I have been enjoying the Eastern Sour which is their take on a whiskey sour. It's always fun when someone orders a bowl and the room shakes and the lights flash with thunder and lightning adding a bit of excitement for first timers. Just to recap: Don't get mad if you have to wait and did not make a reservation. While they have lots of options, most drinks and all specialties are Tiki Drinks. Tiki drinks can be strong, mind yourself. If a place like this is not your vibe, that is fine, head back into Craft & Commerce, make room for others who are waiting to get in, just have fun!

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures.
