Upon entering, I immediately noticed that this restaurant was very clean, well organized, the music playing was so relaxing. The employees were extremely friendly, polite, welcoming and genuinely and visibly happy that we were dining in their restaurant. Service was EXCELLENT!! We ordered the chicken kabob lunch portion. The interior is nice. They serve beer and wine. The server was very friendly. I had a Lamb Gyro - which was blandly seasoned. Had hoped for the intense flavors I had had previously - but this chef I a bit safe. It's all good. To each his own. My friend had the Chicken Kabob plate and really enjoyed it. We loved the hummus. Like make your jaw hurt with every bite hard. I didn't know this was possible. The kabob meats were tender but marinated with different spices and the portions here are much smaller. The yogurt dip was inedible. L The salads were not fresh and dressings were awful. And don't bother with the stale, old baklava. The cashier told me it was fresh. It was definitely not. This is now Maroon House. We walk in and sit down. The employee walks to the counter rather than greet us and stood there. He then realized we were sitting and decides he should probaly come say hello and bring menus. It says Maroon House but he gives us Lemon Zest Menus. We ask if this is Maroon House and he said yes but the menus are the same. We requested the Maroon House menu. He obliged. So as we reviewing the new menu, we ask for pita and hummus. He brings this yummy hummus with this AWFUL, cold, dry, and grainy pita bread that he said was fresh baked yesterday. Not sure how fresh and yesterday go together but he said what he said, and he stood on it. There is no way that pita was fresh baked or warmed. He instead offers the whole wheat version. We place our order with all prayers the rest will improve. The drinks in a bottle, no cup straw offered or provided. No water refills or check ins. Anyway the food wasnt awful and he did smile but we will not be returning or recommending. Get rid of that pita bread and the vendor who sold it to you. I've been by the Lemon Zest Cafe of Sherman Oaks on the vibrant beat of Ventura Blvd between Van Nuys Blvd and Kester Ave clustered in with many great spots like On The Thirty, Noah's Bagels, Ultra Laser Tag and numerous others in the La Reina Place Shopping Center. Lemon Zest S.O. makes probably one of my favorite falafel wraps in a spinach tortilla. The Dolmas are not as rich as I've had at other Mediterranean spots, a bit low sodium in most of their food, yet tons of natural flavors. They have great lunch specials like the Vegan Beef Lule Kabob, Veggie Plate and street/modern takes on others. Parking is most in front for fast access or off Dickens though there is a paid lot for this plaza in back as well if you plan on being in the area in the while. This was next door to Massage Envy, I just gotten a massage and was hungry so I picked up lunch. It opened at 11, which was nice. I originally wanted Noodle World but it didn't open until 11:30. (They use cheap meat). Every meat I chewed ended up in the trash, gamey as F. Keep in mind, if you order a combination of rice and salad, there's less meat than rice and salad. So not worth it. I'm sorry to have to tell them this, but it's not worth getting. 3) we also got the chicken luleh that was favorable, no issues there. Overall, if they have better cuts of meats and equal portions, I'd keep coming back, and I give them props for good seasoning. Not too salty and love the sumac.. Keep it up. Lunch itself was great--especially the shrimp kabob. No complaints about the food. But when I went to grab two lemon bars to go, my total came to $13.17. I mentioned that the online menu said $2.99 each. The manager came over and told me desserts are $6 now. I explained I saw a different menu online, and instead of acknowledging the discrepancy, he insisted I was wrong and pointed to the current website. Turns out, the menu I saw was from three years ago. I suggested they update or remove the outdated version to avoid confusion. He said it was a "review" and couldn't be taken down. No apology, no empathy--just dismissal. To top it off, the lemon bar was disappointing. The crust was soggy and chewy. I'd give it a 2 out of 5. So yes, the food was good. But the management? Not so much. If you're tempted by the dessert prices online--don't be. They're $6 each, and the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

From the excellent customer service to the friendly goodbye I can tell as a local that lives within walking distance I'm going to be coming here a lot. I ordered the kebab entree teriyaki chicken. (With rice and French fries) the chicken was so moist and flavorful truely incredible! The rice and streak fries were generous in proportion. I also ordered the beef Lule kabob. And I was expecting something different the ground beef that's stuck together but instead they were even more luxurious like a little beef filet medallions. So tender and flavorful. Incredible the portion sizes are huge I'll definitely have leftovers which I love! I also tried the shirazi salad which is one of my all time favorite items and they did an excellent job just the right cucumber to tomato to onion portion.
