We've been going to Lemongrass pretty regularly for the past several years. The food is good - perhaps not the best Thai food around, but a solid option. Recently, we went and had dinner. The food and service were lovely. When the check came out, there was a 15% service charge added - a first in many years of coming here and not noted on the menu, which I believe is a requirement or you can ask to have the service charge removed. That in itself isn't a huge issue because we would normally tip 20% anyway. The issue is that none of the staff mentioned the service charge and on the credit card receipt, the suggested tips were still the normal amounts of 15%, 20%, and 25%. If you didn't notice the service charge, you'd leave a normal tip on top of it. This feels a bit disingenuous as most places charging a service charge will reduce the suggested tip options to something like 3%, 5%, and 7%. Please review your receipt carefully if you dine here! read more

When questioned, nothing was corrected but just lied. Check your receipt carefully or just avoid this place. We were VERY DISAPPOINTED recently at Lemongrass. In fact, we were angry! My husband and I planned, and were bent, on going there again. We checked their website to confirm hours of operation. It said they close at 8:30. So as not to interfere with the kitchen personnel , we arrived at 7:50 ----That was 40 minutes before the posted closing time! When we walked in the door, we were informed that we were too late to be seated for dinner. WTF??? Instead, we were allowed to order take-out. NOT WHAT WE HAD PLANNED. We may not return. If I could give zero stars, I would. This was highly rated on Google as an authentic Thai food restaurant, but Google has also disappointed me with driving directions. The experience dining here was one of the worst that I can remember. My husband ordered the shrimp and crab Pad Thai. There were two shrimps on the plate and nothing that resembled crab. The noodles were stuck together. There were no notes of fish sauce, ginger, or soy sauce in the pad Thai, which are key ingredients in making this dish. The only notes we could taste in the noodles were vinegar and sugar, and lots of it. We brought this to the waiter's attention. She stated that the locals in Petaluma like sweet and sour. This is very nice, but not how you make Pad Thai. We did not eat it and left it on the plate. Any professional restaurant would have asked if the customer would like another entree in its place. Instead, we were presented with the bill that came to almost $80 for two entrées, and one small appetizer of chicken puffs. The dough on the puffs was dry and burnt, and noticeably over baked. They even had the nerve to add a 15% gratuity tip to our bill. Nowhere outside or inside the restaurant was this mandate posted. If it were, we would have gone somewhere else. We paid for the food and left no tip. We should've demanded that the pad Thai entrée be removed from the bill since it was not touched. Horrible service, not authentic food, and way overpriced for what was served. Never again. It's no wonder why this restaurant is always empty whenever we pass by. After being a loyal customer for years, our most recent experience has convinced us we will not be returning. Their website often fails to transmit orders, so I called to place the order by phone. The man who answered--possibly the owner--refused to help and told me to go back online, despite me explaining the system wasn't working. I tried multiple times and the order still wouldn't go through. When I called back, he interrupted me before I could explain, and when I asked him to please listen, he told me, "You don't have to come here," and hung up on me. I was polite the entire time and simply trying to place an order while not feeling well. To make matters worse, my husband went in to pick up the order and was treated just as rudely. He only asked if the order was ready, and the same man was dismissive and unpleasant. My husband is very easygoing and even he was shocked by how he was treated. It's disappointing that basic customer service and respect seem to be missing. We tried repeatedly to give this place our business, but the attitude and lack of support made that impossible. I hadn't been here since Pre-COVID and kind of forget about them until the other night when I was in Petaluma Hallmark shopping with a friend. We stopped in around 6:30pm and it was very busy. We had to wait about 10-15 mins outside bc the inside is very small. This place has the vibe of your lucky to eat here. Normally I don't like that but I'll admit we were lucky to eat there and get a table and even with the vibe I can't wait to go back and neither can my friend lol! The food is so good! Maybe best Thai I've had. Normally the Tom Kha is my go to on a cold fall night but they had this pumpkin squash soup I tried that was delish. I also got some warm sake, also delish. So yeah they very much have a lucky to eat here attitude but they got the food service and ambience to back that up and I'm still giving 5 stars and can't wait to eat there again. read more

I HATE dinging small businesses with a mediocre review, but honestly food can be hit or miss. When it's a hit (stick with the curries) it fabulous and when it's a miss (like overcooked mushy peanut noodles) it's a total bummer (basically inedible). My biggest problem & the reason we won't be going back (sticking to Sea Thai in Santa Rosa or Chetuphon in Napa) is that the last time we went in we paid well over $100 for some pretty basic items. Then, in actually checking the bill because it was SO high, we see they charged an 18% service fee (WTH!?) and then had the gall to ask for an additional tip on top of it. Insanity. Lemongrass has always been my favorite Thai restaurant the food and service has always been top notch - until it wasn't. On our way back after an outing we decided to stop by for a late lunch. When we arrived we were informed that it was take out only as the staff was on break. No problem we were heading home anyway and their take out is always good. Food was prepared quickly and we were on our way in no time. Get back to the house and I could tell just by looking at it my beloved Basil Chicken did not look right. It's my favorite dish there with tender nuggets of chicken in a very Thai basil forward sauce and lots of colorful veggies. Not anymore. Dry tough flavorless shreds of chicken with no discernible basil flavor. Chicken had an off flavor. No more colorful bell peppers just mushy broccoli, zucchini, carrots and onions. It was night and day from what the dish used to be. And as others have mentioned rice is a $2.50 side order now. I opted for it so I didn't have to cook rice at home. I had almost ordered the Pad Thai but since I don't live in town anymore and don't get to eat here very often I wanted my fav dish. Should have gone with the pad Thai after all. The other dishes in the order were reported as being very good. So I guess I got the short end of the stick. I realize it's really hard to be in the restaurant business especially in these times when costs are so high they have to charge more but to pay double for a dish that has become sub par makes me not want to dine out anymore it's not worth the gamble. Had the basil chicken been as good as in the past it wouldn't feel like such a waste of money. Will probably eat here in the future but never again the basil chicken. RIP. read more

Really enjoyed our dinner here. The green curry was delicately balanced and the veggies were cooked perfectly. My kids loved the chicken satay and fried tofu appetizers. The service was prompt and attentive. It's located in a strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside but the dining room is comfortable and clean with a beautiful water feature. This was our first time ordering from here, and overall, the food was excellent. We tried the Pad Thai with duck and the Massaman curry with chicken. The Massaman curry was one of the best we've ever had--the addition of pineapple added a wonderful sweetness that paired perfectly with the peanut flavor. The portions for both dishes were very generous. However, the rice portions were surprisingly small. With only one size option available, we ordered two servings, but it wasn't enough for everyone. I had a chance to stop by Lemongrass Thai yesterday afternoon for lunch and had a pretty good meal. My wife ordered the duck curry while I ordered the pumpkin curry with chicken. The curries were both the same base flavor and shared most of the same fixings. While the duck was tender, the chicken was on the dry side. The flavor of the curry itself is nice: j the right amount of spice and also just the right consistency for a curry - not too watery. The other guests in my party got the pad thai and peanut noodles and from their cleaned off plates, I'll conclude they enjoyed their dishes as well. This restaurant lies to your face! I made a nearly $100.00 order, paid $2.50 for their rice and it was NOT IN OUR TAKEOUT ORDER. The person working there was mean and belligerent to my husband w ho had to drive all the way back to get a stupid container of rice. After he got in my husband's face and argued with him, he aggressively threw the rice at him, insisting it was in the bag! My husband left without the rice at that point. I want to start with the list of what I ordered, let me just say that I wanted to treat myself, and knowing how well they package their left overs I was happy to have another meal to take home out of it. So please don't judge me for the number of items I placed for myself. Potstickers are my number one go to anywhere that has them. Consider me a child and they the chicken fingers on the kids menu. Sadly because I eat them so much odds are that every once in a while I find a place that I hate them, but here is not that place. They were perfectly crunchy and fully filled. I normally like them steamed and soft with more dough than stuffing, but these may have changed me forever. Mint Beef Salad, might sound unusual to some, however they have managed to balance all the flavors wonderfully. The cucumber fits the cilantro, tomato complements the beef, fresh and crunchy with a hearty chili dressing. I tried to only eat half to take the rest home as planned but could not help myself. The Pumpkin Curry comes with your choice of meat, I opted for the pork. Great veggie medley, large chunks while still keeping all the vegetables evenly cooked with perfect softness and firmness and even temperature. Green beans crunchy, carrots medium, and the squash soft. Thin sliced hibachi added. More substance than liquid! They offer meat, veggies, and tofu for this dish. On the side is a perfect round of sticky rice. I ordered all dishes at once, because I knew what I wanted, and asked that they be timed out. Some servers like this, some don't. Please don't do this if you are going to need a lot of attention, I only do it when I know that I won't need my table tapped and the server can spend more time on others. Ping was great though, they all came out at the right times and temperatures. It may seem that I was over ordering or high maintenance, however Ping was so accommodating it was easy to feel comfortable letting her I know what I wanted. Ping went above and beyond, chilling my wine, placing the lemon slices in my water instead of on the table... I am by no means saying you should go in demanding or expecting this level of service, because I think Ping may just be awesome, but you should at least go in for the food. Was looking to eat spicy Thai food on a cold rainy day in Petaluma and while i have had this thai food before, first time we did dinner. I had the chicken basil stir fry with 1 cup of brown rice and my friend had the crab fried rice. Both the dishes were out of this world!!! Yummy yummy yum. We were visiting Petaluma for an appointment, so my Thai mother-in-law invited me to go eat lunch at Lemongrass Thai Cuisine. She was was disgusted by the inauthentic food. The prawns in my Tom Kha soup still had poop in them and she could tell the restaurant purchases the prawns pre-cooked. Her dish, Pad See Ew, consisted of pork and noodles in gravy. She said it tasted like salty Fish, and the pork smelled like fish. When the bill arrived, there was a 15% "Service Fee" added. Quite disappointing Lemongrass. We will not be returning. This place is so good! I didnt even notice it in the corner of the trader joes shopping center! Reasonably priced and authentic Thai cuisine. I had the green curry with pumpkin and the flavors were so on point! I only like one other thai place that Ive tried in the area and thats tiny thai in cotati. Beautiful lunch here recently with friendly, attentive, yet unobtrusive service. My gluten-free veggie pad Thai was delicious and my friend's enormous bowl of noodles soup was very good. Fresh spring rolls were the best I've had in ages, hearty and felt very fresh. Tea was served in lovely ceramic tall mugs which were a nice touch. Parking is easy in shopping center lot. On Christmas Eve, we decided that we wanted to get some Thai food for lunch. Despite it being Christmas Eve, we were surprised at how many places were closed given the challenging current climate with restaurants and shelter in place/to go orders. Finally, we found lemongrass Thai, and gave them a call to see if they were open and taking orders and they were. After looking over the menu, we decided to order a few things to see a variety of dishes since we had never eaten here prior to this. We ordered the pad woon sen $12, Basil fried rice $12, Panang salmon $17, crispy spring rolls $8, and Thai iced tea with coconut milk $4. I thought the prices seemed pretty reasonable and they told us at the food would be ready shortly so we basically got in our car immediately after ordering and headed down to Petaluma. The restaurant is located in the same strip mall as raley's, Ross, and trader Joe's, and it is super chaotic to get in and out of this place. The parking is horrendous and feel like anybody driving in that area has potential of probably cutting you off and/or getting into a road rage incident. I try to avoid this shopping mall whenever I can because I just don't find it safe or very pleasant to be in. The interior of the restaurant looks very new and I think the lady said that they were relatively new to the area. My order was ready on the spot and I packed it in the car and we headed home. The smell in the car smelled pretty authentic so that made me feel like we had a probable good meal headed our way. Once we got home we unpacked everything and one of the things that I was happy about was that everything was in mostly recyclable containers. With all of the to-go food currently being our only restaurant option, I get pretty upset when everything is in only styrofoam, so that was the first good point of our experience. The first thing that I tried were the fried spring rolls, which were very bland, and I felt even though we weren't that far from the restaurant, got soggy pretty much immediately. The fried rice was oddly clumpy and the rice inside the clumps didn't have any seasoning on them which made them very gummy and very bland. The Thai tea with coconut milk tasted exactly like the cardboard tube inside of a roll of wrapping paper. I know that's oddly specific but that's exactly how it tasted and I tried it multiple times after shaking it and stirring it and it did not improve so I threw it away. Pad woon sen is hubby's favorite Thai dish so he always compares flavors of restaurants to each other to see how they stack up. This one was weirdly tangy like they used more tamarind flavors than we're used to, but I didn't feel like it was very harmonious in terms of working with the other flavors of the dish. The only thing that I thought was good and worth eating more of was the salmon curry with the Panang sauce, and on its own I would have eaten this dish but in the grand scheme of everything else, overall a very disappointing meal. I hate throwing food away but we did not save these leftovers and instead turn to them over to our compost pile. The most hilarious part of all was just a few days after eating here, my friend brought me lunch for my birthday and just so happened to order our food from here as well. The positive note of that was that I got to try everything a second time and compare it to our first experience and the food was just as bad if not worse the second go around with extremely oily rice noodles, and soggy fried rolls. Overall I felt the prices were decent for Thai food in this area, however the selection was not matched by quality in terms of seasoning and authenticity of the flavors of the dishes. I would however eat the panang salmon again but it's not worth returning just for that when everything else was so lackluster. read more

We ordered lunch to go online and it was convenient. Our order was ready in 20 minutes and it was ready for pickup as promised. We ordered chicken satay, bbq pork and BBQ pork rice pot and everyone said it was (delicious)! The chicken and pork were tender, grilled perfectly and had lots of flavor. The price was reasonable and the portions were larger compared to other Thai restaurants. Will definitely be back if we're in the area. read more

It's pretty standard but unremarkable thai food. The curries are a little thin in terms of mouthfeel but I do like that they're hotter than usual for when the heat level is unspecified. I asked why and the answer was "oh the computer system". How many people double tip. I'm sure I have since we eat here all the time.
