It started raining while we were in the bank and another clerk Zuly walked my disabled sister to the car with an umbrella - both of these clerks are wonderful ambassadors for PNC !

Yet they treated us like an important customer from the moment we entered the bank. Let's face it most banks are the same, some allow politics into their operations but unless you're a news junkie most people don't know that stuff. Really the only opportunity a bank has to impress is its customer service. Many larger banks work to intimidate, over sized lobbies, wood, marble and tiles designed to invoke a church instead of a place of service. Often the staff is taught or the company culture develops to create an air of superiority, arrogance and smarminess. This and other reasons is why most retail brick and mortar banks are failing and why so many only bank online, in-office banking is often a terrible experience up there with a visit to the dentist. PNC is clearly trying hard to break that old mold, at least at the local branch level. As we walked in the door there was a host counter like you might find at a restaurant or many mobile phone services. She greeted us, asked our names which she wrote down and asked what services we needed. She set up the questions to get us in line for the banker we needed and walked us to the nearby chairs. Okay, my only gripe was the lobby area could use more chairs and more some planters or furniture to define the space. it felt a little conspicuous which most people don't like when doing their banking even if they have nothing too confidential, it just feels right to have some privacy. From there we were promptly invited into an office to meet with a banker and discuss our needs. Any US bank is now driven by over reaching and meddling federal government spying on Americans. SO even to open a simple savings account felt like we were signing up to be joining Homeland Security. Too many forms, disclosures to sign, documents letting you know you have no privacy or rights while banking that you're not supposed to read, just sign. Product a real ID, and other forms of ID and some history that has no relevance whatsoever other than to being nosy and butting into your personal lives that is unlikely to result in nearly no crime stopping because criminals don't operate this way. Oh well, it's like this at all banks now. Still, our banker flew threw it quickly while answering our questions and chatting us up with those questions banks teach staff to hide that they are profiling you but pretending to be interested in you. She did it well and I made her blush for calling it out but she was still professional and friendly. The decor in the bank was bright and sunny, not typical of most banks and not designed to intimidate or impress, just friendly professionalism. Ok, why did I bother to write a long review? because after the fact on three operate occasions in two weeks various staff called me to welcome us to the banks and see if I could answer any questions. They also sent the typical "how are we doing" survey that most of the time never result in any action. Only this time all three managers who called knew the results of the survey and my comment. And although there was nothing they could do to change my comment on a local level they tried to show empathy and understanding. When was the last time you can think of where the bank and all the staff really seemed to care that you had joined, acknowledged concerns and worked to answer them? Image if we had opened a variety of services, which now we just might do. I've been with our last bank for 30 years and they only reach out if they want to squeeze you for more money. Well done PNC!
