I went to this store for a simple eyeglass repair - one of the arms had fallen off and I needed a new screw. I did not buy the glasses in the store and told the technician (Leah H.) that, but she cheerfully replaced the screw and meticulously cleaned the glasses. When I pulled out my credit card to pay, she said the service was free. She also declined a tip. I will happily do business with this store from now on. read more

I got my glasses here one year ago and I regret this choice every day. First, I had to get them exchanged 3 (!) times because 1) The optometrist offered me blue light filter without showing me how the lens would look and without warning me that they would look blue, completely distorting the color I see. If you offer me a product, inform me how it looks - I don't want the world to be blue! 2) The doctor prescribed me too strong of a prescription (that one's ok, the doctor was very courteous about it and fixed it immediately; though the staff was quite rude about it and I'm not sure if they would have replaced my glasses had the doctor not asked them) 3) They ordered a wrong frame color for me 4) They were unable to center the center of my eye to the center of the glass 5) FINAL OFFENSE: I asked for the most durable glasses and I still get scratches. Moreover, glasses slide off my nose constantly despite numerous (5+) attempts to fix them. I know exactly why and it's SALES ASSISTANT MISTAKE because they recommended me frame that's too small for my face and did not warn me. The staff (except for the doctor) is horrendous, not intersted in customers and unqualified about glasses at all. I just got a new scratch that should not happen (never did with the level I care for glasses and with the quality I got 2 years ago) and I'm literally unable to do my job at the computer because of the staff's utter incompetence. Oh, and they lied about my insurance too (they told me that if I get glasses in December, I could get new ones in a new calendar year, instead I had to wait full 12 months) so I have to wait until replacing them. Terriblel, terrible mistake and it lierally cost me migraines because of bad craftsmanship. Stay away. read more

I ended up loving this LensCrafters so much more than I had planned. From the beginning, customer service was top notch. I called to inquire about services including an exam, glasses and contacts. The young man on the phone was so helpful and answered all of my questions without rushing. I made an appointment but then had to change it. Making the change was just as easy as making my original appointment. On the day of my visit, I arrived to a bright and shiny new store. They keep the door locked and strictly limit store capacity. I appreciate their attention to safety protocols. Floor to ceiling windows allowed tons of light in and gave a great view of the State Street activity. Everything was organized nicely, with a ton of really cute frames. I was like a kid in a candy store! I was lucky enough to see Anna Sterczek O.D. Wow! She was like a breath of fresh air. So pleasant yet professional, I felt very well cared for. She took her time, was very thorough and put my mind at ease. I felt that I received a very comprehensive eye exam and had all of my questions answered. The rest of the staff were equally amazing. A very nice greeting was a great way to start. The young girl took care of the insurance necessities and showed me around the store. I was very impressed with their friendly professionalism. I am looking forward to stopping by soon to pick out some new frames. They have a fantastic selection and a nice looking sale section. It was time for new glasses so I went to this location for the first time. Previously had gone to LensCrafters at Macy's on Michigan Avenue but they closed when Macy's closed last year. I got two pairs of glasses, one with transitional lenses and ones without. They were very professional and did a good job on my initial visit and then got the glasses on time. They seem to always have discounts - I got a significant discount with their Memorial Day day sale. Very satisfied! read more

*update - removed 1 star. When I originally got the progressive ones at the new place, I used the LensCrafters prescription. When I went in for them to do an exam for the second pair that LensCrafters couldn't get right, they said my prescription was all wrong from the first ones. I was annoyed that at all 3 lenscrafters exams (3 different "doctors"), they didn't listen when I said nothing was clear. They'd ask "which is better, 1 or 2?" I'd say neither is clear. But they'd ask again, so I told them which was better even neither was good! They didn't care that I couldn't see any of it...they just wanted to know which was better, relative to the other, not that neither worked for me. I mistakenly trusted that there was some reason to their comparison even though nothing was clear. The eye doctor at the new place listened to me when I'd say neither is clear and kept trying, found in-between lenses, nuanced it till I could see. Of 3 people at LensCrafters that gave me the exam, no one cared to do anything else to find the setting that was clear, they just kept asking "1 or 2?" even when I said neither. In my original review below, I thought it was their lenses that were bad, but now I think it's their independent contractor eye doctors who have no clue what they're doing. The other place I went even had a thing that looked like glasses where they inserted lenses so I could see if it was right. They didn't insert one lens and one strength...they inserted a few to layer it to get it right! That's the nuance they were able to do that LensCrafters seems incapable of. Very limited lenses and knowledge. I absolutely do not recommend them.* (original post): I tried for 3 months to get 2 pairs of glasses, one progressive and one readers/computer. It took me one try to see their progressives would never work for me and I returned them. And 3 tries to see that the computer distance wouldn't work either and ultimately returned those. Here's why: the way they do their progressive lenses is bizarre. You only get 3 options of where the transition is placed, so they are NOT customized. And it's made in an hourglass shape so the sides will never have prescription in them which is crazy because you move your eyes to see, not just your head. I like to have mine with a thin amount at the bottom with the reader prescription and a lot on the top with distance so I can walk around. They couldn't customize where the readers started...the lower it went, the more the hourglass came in and the less prescription on the sides. Just completely stupid. So I got those at a place down the street that could do it right and customize where the transition starts and has it going all the way across the lens. For the readers/computer, I tried 3 times because first I tried to find a happy medium distance for both. That didn't work so i tried their "workspace", a progressive with computer distance on top, reading distance on the bottom. This was so weird that I couldn't see either one! Returned those and tried just computer distance and bought cheap readers at the drugstore. As with all 4 lenses I tried, I couldn't see clearly. Even moving up and back I never found a point where i saw crisp and clear. The lenses just never worked. I had the progressive lenses done elsewhere at a higher-end place and I can see clearly with those! And now I'll be getting the computer distance ones there as well. That place compared it to a "fast food hamburger vs. a gibsons steak". They just make them much better. I did however buy the frames from LensCrafters which cost over $200....but found them online and bought them for $80 for the second pair I'm getting done. I also looked at all their wacky receipts, which are impossible to follow and make sense of, and pretty sure they did not refund me enough based on adding up what's on my credit card statements. But after about 12 trips there, I'm not going back. The take away is, pay the extra $100 at a higher end place and get lenses that work. Don't trust LensCrafters frame prices which are considerably marked up and...you may save a little bit of money there but not enough to make it worth it in my book. I'll never go there again. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because every person I dealt with, from exams to picking up glasses and getting them adjusted...was really, really nice and friendly. They do try to be helpful...it's just that their lenses don't work for me at all. And I wouldn't recommend progressives at all from there if you're picky about where the transition falls while still being able to see out the sides without having to turn your head. read more

My dad is in his seventies bought his glasses here a little over a year ago. Frames broke and they can't be repaired because his prescription isn't current? Just wanted the same lenses in a new frame (that I was willing to pay for) and they can't make it work. Pretty ridiculous as they cost hundreds of dollars and they won't support their own product. I came back the next day and bought my glasses. My script is complex and the staff provided guidance on the best frames and most important what looked best:) . Keep in mind I haven't been to eye doctor in a while so I decided to scheduled an appointment at this location (adultery got the best of me) as soon as I walked in there the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming! Dr. Beth Mokaya: Where have you been all my life? I've been to every doc from Costco to fancy Michigan Avenue private practices and I've never been treated so well. My eyes are aging, and it turns out that I'm not going to see like I did when I was 20 (shock and surprise). That's pretty distressing to me but it's been met with a shrug by every doc I've seen so far. Apparently, I should be grateful that I'm not blind (I am). Dr. Mokaya went way beyond the call of duty, spending time discussing my concerns, everything I've tried and why/how it hasn't worked, and giving me several options for experimentation. I wound up with a much superior solution to anything I'd tried before. Dr. Mokaya is everything a doc should be but rarely is these days. She has all the skill and also all the humanity. And, no, I haven't been paid for this review and never met her prior to my appointment-of-convenience at my local LensCrafters. I feel very lucky. read more

We are very disappointed with LensCrafters policy of forcing us to redo the entire pair of glasses even though it was just a simple screw that needs to be replaced. This is totally absurd and to add more insult we are required to do a new eye exam even though it had only been a year since we got these prescription glasses. We have been loyal LensCrafters customers but it looks like now is the time to look elsewhere for our visual needs. It probably will be a matter of time before we see this corporation go by the wayside and rightfully so. read more

Update. Yesterday, my insurance provider informed me that Lenscrafters and their Dr. put submitted a $143 claim for my benefits for the appointment that they couldn't complete. They claimed that they had written an Rx and fitted contact lenses. The Dr. didn't even see me as I explained in my earlier review and therefore, no Rx could have been written. Izzy, the sales supervisor, was very nice and explained that it was an error and that she would call the ins company and reverse the claim. However, this is directly contrary to the previous assurances of Austin (the tech person who insisted on calling me "Dude") that only he could put the claim through and that he would not do so. read more
