It takes a lot for me to go out of my way to write a review on something. I feel that my experience at LensCrafters at the Irvine Spectrum is a needed situation. I have always gone to a local optometrist for my eyecare needs, but since my company changed insurance policies I had to make a change. I figured I'd give LensCrafters a chance since they have great marketing and I knew the name. Right from the start I had issues. I contacted LensCrafters, via their website, to set up an appointment. I specifically asked for the Irvine Spectrum location, but they couldn't locate the store on their end... they offered Jamboree and for some reason scheduled two different appointments for the same day. Luckily, someone from the office actually reached out to me to clarify only because I was down for two times. When I confirmed they let me know the location of my appointment was at the Spectrum. I was expecting to drive the opposite way to Jamboree because that's the location they told me over the phone. Not too happy but whatever. My appointment day finally comes along and I show up to a pretty empty store. I fill out some paper work. Considering they asked me for my insurance information I was surprised when they asked if I was going to use my insurance to cover everything. I figured that was a no-brainer since I told them upfront that I only wanted to have my exam and get glasses that my insurance covered. I knew going in that the store was pricier than other stores but didn't think they would try so hard to upsell me. Before the doctor saw me, they asked if I wanted to do the retinal imaging and explained the "benefits." I declined because my insurance didn't cover it and I've never had issues before. I'm young and have never been told I was at risk of anything. They said "ok" and I was able to do my exam. After the exam, I was completely surprised when the doctor herself tried to upsell me. Really? I get bringing up their tests and products, but I really felt that I was getting a sales pitch from my doctor. After a quick glance at my eye, she strongly recommended I do the procedure because something was "slightly larger than the national average." Without any special equipment or technology, she was strictly going based on her opinion. How slightly was slightly? I know I don't have 20/20 vision but I would assume it would be very hard to see that with a super quick glance. She even stated that I wasn't at risk and didn't really need it. I declined again and she said "ok." Here's the kicker though. As soon as I told her I wasn't interested, she took me to a room. She was going to have me do the retinal imaging after I just stated I didn't want to do it. Talk about shady. I was upset my doctor of all people tried to scam me into something like that. Completely unprofessional. After I again denied the test, she had me sign a form. She knew I was officially not sold and gave in. I went to pay for my exam and to look at new frames. Again, I was upset when I had literally no assistance when browsing frames. Of course, I do like freedom of browsing but wasn't used to practically being ignored. I never experienced that at the local optometrists. When I finally located a frame I was assisted in getting everything ordered, where again I was upsold. I knew that I had wanted transitions, but this anti-glare protector was another story. Apparently they have their standard and the expensive "same thing but not standard" version. I asked the difference between the two and they literally couldn't tell me what was difference. I declined and decided to go the cheapest route, with the exception of the transition lenses. One of the selling points of LensCrafters, as a company, is that they have their own in-house lab. I was hoping to take advantage of that. It didn't surprise me when I was told that the only lenses they had in stock were the Anti-glare expensive premium that I declined to purchase. One last attempt to get me to make a purchase of their most expensive product. She stated I could get those or wait a week....I waited a week and left. A week later, I had to call in to check the status. Of course my glasses were in. The person I spoke to stated they had just come in that day, but I really can't believe it based on my overall experience. All-in-all, I say avoid LensCrafters. Luckily I'm in sales myself and could see right through their sales tactics. Very unprofessional, especially from my shady doctor and their practices. This was my first and last LensCrafters experience. Oh yea, two stars because my glasses appear to be correct. read more

I walked in today looking for some glasses to fill my new rx. I walked in with my sister and I was greeted by guy named Omar and he gave me a layout of the floor. There were no other customers in the place and there were three employees. No one asked about my rx or helped me try to find new glasses. Such poor customer service. I took my daughter in yesterday for a new pair of glasses. There were several staff members standing around and not one greeted us when we walked into the store. No one offered to help. When I did ask for help they acted as though I was really putting them out. Every step of the process people were so aloof, if not down right rude. The glasses were supposed to be ready by 2:00 pm and they were to text me. I never received a text or call notifying me that they were ready. I called this morning and was told the lab had not opened and I would probably need to wait until noon for the glasses to be ready. Then I was placed on hold. When the woman returned, she said the glasses were ready. She did not offer any apology or explanation as to why I wasn't contacted yesterday. I won't be going back. I'd rather pay more and wait a week for the glasses to come in. I don't need to be treated like a nuisance when I'm spending my money. This was the strangest customer service experience I've ever had. read more

I got my eyes checked 4 months ago. I got new glasses yay! My eye sight is pretty bad, so they had to order me trial contacts. They ended up being extremely blurry, so I decided to finish my boxes of my current contacts and use my new glasses. Now, I called a couple weeks ago to see about getting new trial contacts that aren't blurry hopefully. The man told me he had to ask the doctor, took my number, and said they'd call back. NO CALL! I then called last week, 3 times in one day, and no answer!? I'm so frustrated!!! read more

They still have no concept of time. Worst. Place. Ever. They double book appointments and then we wait. And wait. And wait. 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment we are seen. Mind you I picked an appt very early in the day (just after opening) thinking I'd be seen on time. Nope. Of course not. Then get the glass fitting and they tell me to come in 1.5 hrs. I come and now they say it will be another 25 minutes. Like I have nothing better to do than waste my time at LensCrafters. ughhhhhh read more

My husband & I didn't get our eye exams here but our shopping experience for glasses and prescription sunglasses was so SUPERIOR that we probably will come here for our exams next time, as well. William, General Manager, and his team genuinely seemed to enjoy their work & William was so knowledgable about how to resolve my husband's challenges with his lenses & frames. Lenscrafters really has the edge on technology while still keeping Caring Customer Service as the top priority! That's rare these days and so nice to see that I just had to recommend them strongly to anyone in need of new glasses! read more

This place was terrible. We made an appt. for an eye exam at 5:40 PM - an hour later they had still not processed the insurance paperwork AND they said it was going to be an additional 45 minutes. Really? Have you never scheduled an eye exam before? I don't know what their problem was but as far as I am concerned this is just another example of what poor business people Dr.'s tend to be. I was prepared to spend over $1200 on eyewear for my wife and I. Instead they get $0.00. Back to Target optical. They don't have quite the inventory of glasses that Lenscrafters does but at least they respect my time. read more

**Update following review below! As I write this, my wife is very upset with her experience at this LensCrafters location today!! After waiting for over an hour (our choice to get a same day appt.), she saw the Dr. for an exam. The exam went well, Dr. seemed very nice and thorough....Picking out the frames went well...The Manager, William, was extremely helpful in sizing, and placing the order . My wife ordered two pairs of glasses. One regular, one Sunglasses. After spending $1,200.00 on the two pair, after a AAA discount (yes, she picked expensive frames, but the anti-glare, and polarized lenses up'd the price quickly), you would think at least ONE pair would have been done correctly! NOPE!! We went back 2 hours later, only to find the Sunglasses had been made with the completely wrong color lenses, although when we reviewed the lab order the Correct color WAS clearly stated! We were told to come back tomorrow!! I thought this was ONE hour service?? The store did close in 45 mins, but opens again at 11am on Sundays...so why will they not be ready until after 2pm?? Especially when it was their mistake...No rush jobs here? So, unhappily we left, only to plan to return tomorrow. Next issue....her eyes were dilated for the exam, therefore was unable to even see if the regular glasses worked at the store at time of pickup...several hours later at home she tried the new glasses when her eyes had returned to normal. Did that pair work?? NOPE!! The prescription is wrong!??? When attempting to wear them, if she turns her head, the entire room changes shape! REALLY?? Is this the best you get for $1,200.00 cash?? We are assuming that both problems are the fault of the instore lab. We had been warned to not go to a LensCrafters, now we know why....We will be there when they open tomorrow! Good Luck! **UPDATE.... Well, we went in first thing this morning...VERY HAPPY to report the outcome. As we arrived, we were informed by the Manger that the sunglasses were indeed already being worked on! Much earlier than originally promised, and trying to correct their mistake very promptly. THANK YOU. Next I presented them the pair that did not work for me last night. He very nicely took them straight to the lab, and did an adjustment. He said they were "slightly" off, and they immediatley corrected them. I will wear them for the next week, per their suggestion to see if I have any other problems. As I type this, they are working GREAT! The sunglasses were completed during our visit, and were perfect. The Manager, The Dr., and the Optical Dept/Lab gentleman, all came to the table to make sure I was happy with the finished product of both pair. I had to make a return today, and I was certain that it would be a difficult, being that I was trying to return my new prescription glasses for giving me motion sickness. She agreed to return them for me the moment I walked in! She treated me as courteously as if I were making a purchase. They have The best costumer service !!! This place has done an exceptional job helping me and my family get all our eyewear needs met and more. I had a pleasure of working w Stephanie who not only fixed all my old glasses helped me get beautiful new ones even after hours of helping me she never made me feel uncomfortable and was pleasant the whole time. I still get so many complements on my Tiffany glasses and I had such a great service came back to them later to see get fitted with contacts ! The doctor also did an amazing job she was very knowledgeable and genuinely wanted to help me not selling me on things that could cause me problems. The price may be a little steep compared to other optometry or eyewear businesses but you get what you paid for. The service was amazing. I appreciated all the details and information given. It was a pleasure to be treated so well by the staff at LensCrafters in the Irvine Spectrum Shopping Centre. This was my first visit to an opticians in the US and I am very glad it was such a great experience. I went in because I broke my glasses. They had them fixed within 30 minutes for free. I also took an eye exam as the last one was two years ago in the UK. The equipment was very modern here in comparison and the staff so kind and thoughtful. There is doing a job and there is making it a great experience for the customer. Dr Kim was the best I have experienced. She really was so thorough in every sense of the word. I had an appointment booked for 4:20PM PST. I waited about 10 minutes for my initial exam to start. After the initial exams I continued to wait and wait until almost 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment. During this time, another customer came in and demanded to see the doctor right away for a non emergency. The doctor came up to me and said 'you are next in line but this patient needs to be somewhere so can he go before you?' I told the doctor that I also needed to be somewhere, that I had a scheduled appointment, and that it was scheduled for almost an hour ago. The doctor still took the other patient before me. I waited another 15 minutes and then finally had my appointment. The doctor was apologetic and said that the previous patient was a CEO and needed to be somewhere as if that was supposed to make the situation okay. I will not shop here or at any other lenscrafters again. This office made me feel like a second class citizen and has no regard for my time. There is no reason why a loud, disruptive person without an appointment should be seen before a person who has patiently been waiting for almost an hour. On top of that, I should not have been told that the patient was more important than me because of his job description. read more

I had such an amazing experience here. First of all, the staff was so welcoming and absolutely a pleasure to work with but this review is really for Stephanie. She really went above and beyond to help me during this busy holiday weekend. Although I had to wait a while to get answers from my insurance company, Stephanie really went out of her way to make sure I was a happy customer by contacting my insurance company and continued holding for about an hour and a half to get my insurance off of hold. Do not go to this LensCrafters! I already had a prescription and went to get glasses. This was the middle of the day and there was ONE person working. She didn't acknowledge my presence as she was with a customer. There were other customers waiting also. After 15 minutes I asked her if there was anyone to help me. She said no, that she was the only one working that day although her manager would be in in about 15 minutes. This was a normal business day and they had one employee working???? There was no one to do exams, no one to make the glasses in the back. I couldn't believe it. Why even be open if you can't staff your store? Needless to say, all the customers in the store who were waiting to be helped left, including me. What a poorly run business! read more

Worst optometry ever. Should've known better since it's a large chain. I went here for convenience because I'm always at the Spectrum. I knew I'd be paying higher prices and bad service but again, I opted for the convenience of location. Anyhow I've been wearing contacts for 19 years! My prescription isn't up for 2 more months so I called to order contacts before I had to do a whole new exam. I've worn a lot of brands of contacts and have used lots of optometrists. I wanted a certain contact which is different fr the last brand I used and they won't let me order it unless I do a whole new exam. That's BullSh*t. Will never be back read more

This is the worst experience I've had for an annual eye exam. First, the people in the exam area ignored me and I stood waiting while they continued doing what they were doing. Peggy could have at least acknowledged I was waiting & that she would help me in a minute. Second, they were running way behind schedule (40 mins) even though I came 15 mins early to complete all the paperwork before my appointment. Third, Dr Chang tried over and over to upsell me on an eye scan which I refused multiple times and finally had to tell her I didn't see the value in having the scan vs the cost of the scan and after that she let it go. Then the thing that made me give a 1 star was Dr Chang performed the standard eye exam & then at the end of the exam when I asked for the multi focal contacts to try out she charged me for a premium fitting which is double the standard fitting when there was nothing else she did differently from any other annual eye exam. Lastly, when I got 5 days supply of the trial lens but my followup wasn't for another 2.5 weeks away and I asked for additional samples till my next visit they said they couldn't give me more than 1 extra 5 day supply which had to be ordered and could take 5 days to get Unbelievably cheap that they can't accommodate a patient's need to have additional samples till the next visit. This is the worst overall experience dealing with Lenscrafters. I've been to other locations in the past and never ran into so many unpleasant experiences and lack of customer service. I do have to say there were a few folks in the front store who were very friendly & helpful but the people in the back exam area need more training for better service. read more

I broke my glasses before a trip, so I need to go somewhere that will get me a new pair within 24 hours. My friend recommended Lenscrafters. The optometrist was very pushy and quite rude. She kept pushing me to pay extra for exams, I declined because my insurance pays for them at my regular doctor's office, why pay out of pocket?? She then kept persuading me to get the most expensive type of lenses and frames even after I repeatedly told her I just need to get a simple one for the trip and when I return, I will get a better one that's covered by my insurance. I gave this place two stars because the opticians were very nice and friendly. After listening to my situation, they recommended frames that are priced to meet my needs and they were done in a little over 2 hours! read more

Doctor is great, but know this--the doctors are NOT employed by LensCrafters. Actual LensCrafter employees are the WORST! Tried to charge me for lenses when my insurance covers at 100%. When I pointed this out, some STUPID girl working there said, "oh, it's because we are an out of network doctor." TOTAL LIE made up because they were trying to cover their asses! Then dreadlocks tried to say"but we gave you a discount." A discount when they were supposed to be FREE? I will NEVER buy from this place again! Be warned they are a total RIP OFF! If you don't watch them, they will try to add in charges. They did give me a refund, but guess what? They HAD to!!!! Don't go here!!! read more

Yup FIVE stars! I was nervous about coming in and being told "oh sorry, we're unable to fix your glasses here in the store but we will send them out for you and they'll be back in 'X' time." But that's what happened AT ALL. I walked in, was greeted by a very polite employee. I let him know I needed my glasses fixed and that I had a hard time doing it myself so I hope that someone can help me. He explained to me that the arm of the glasses is on a hinge so it has to be done a certain way. When I handed him all the pieces to my glasses, including the teeny tiny screw, he let me know that most likely they'll give me a new one. Wow! What a great experience. Quick and that's important to me , since I have a 1 and 1/2 year old in tow(he was having a fit mind you). Thanks Lens Crafters!!! I even rescheduled my appointment to there location(I was scheduled at another location) but with their prompt service and friendliness, I decided to give them my business. read more

Be careful being led to think that they accept all insurance plans....they don't. They do not want to lose business, so they tell you will receive a discount, but they do not actually give the larger discount that you would receive if you were to go to a place that accepts your particular insurance with all its benefits. read more

5 people staning at the desk and no one greeted me when I walked in the door. Looked around at glasses wait for someone to address me. Finally a woman came up to me to assist, I needed adjustments to my glasses and shop for a dark prescription glasses. She adjusted my glasses and quite rude and abrupt, after awhile and trying hard to have a conversation - she loosened up. She showed me where to look for shaded glasses and said that she will get back to me. She assisted another couple, and was deep into heavy personal conversation, while I waited for her or at least someone to become available. I stood around the shop waiting for about 5-10 minutes, the asian girl at the counter looked up towards me and tried hard not to make eye contract never smiled, acknowledge me or offered assistance. I walked out and went to Santa Ana LensCrafters and found the nicest people there - purchased my dark prescription and progressive there. I will never go back to the Irvine store - the staff needs to be trained on customer service, instead of trying to be pompus and arrogant! Try being friendly and accommodating. . . this goes a long way to getting customers to return and spread the wordout. I for one will never return to your store - first impress is always the most important. Imagine the many business you are loosing! read more
