My Name is Larry Hutcheson and I bought a pair of glasses in 2022 from Lens Crafters at the Jacksonville Beach location. The glasses cost me over $900. Also, I purchased the "Eyewear Protection Plan" for $45. The glasses began to have what looked liked 'water spots' on both lenses. I later learned that these spots were because the anti-glare coating was peeling off the glasses. Earlier in 2024, I had taken the glasses into the store to get them exchanged. The clerk told me that I had already exchanged the glasses once before and I couldn't exchange them again. I tried to explain that I got a replacement for my glasses because they were made incorrectly. She would not exchange my damaged glasses for a new pair. On August 2, 2024, I returned to the same store to possibly buy another set of glasses because of the spots on both lenses. Plus, I had gotten some scratches on the right lenses. However, I first, I wanted to be sure that if got anti-glare coating on the new glasses, the coating would not peel off in less than six months. None of the three personnel at the store claimed they could not see the spots on the glasses. I got frustrated and left. I refuse to purchase at a store that are liars and thieves. I was informed only have virtual doctors there and nine were available I showed them an email and voicemail confirming my appointment and they had no answer to why I was canceled. Equipment was down at 1st appointment (was there for 1 hour) I knew that my prescription was wrong the first few days of receiving my glasses. Equipment was down for 2nd appointment for a recheck (I left) Last appointment they said the pics of my eyes showed something different from the first appointment Last appointment (with doctor) the equipment was down. I called ahead of time and they said it was up and running. I asked for a full refund and to call my insurance company. A thirty minute round trip 4 times (one to pick up glasses). I needed a small repair to a pair of glasses. My usual optometrist was not in the office and the staff who were there were very nice but they couldn't fix my glasses. I went to the LensCrafters location in Jacksonville Beach and they fixed them in less than 5 minutes! Even though I hadn't been a customer there before they provided this service for free! The optician who repaired my glasses was a real pro and she took a few minutes to talk to me and make sure they fit well. All of the staff were very friendly and their new location looks like a high-end boutique. The address is 4154 Third Street South in Jacksonville Beach right next to Trader Joe's. The Lens Crafter guarantee is a complete fraud. I bought 2 pair of glasses at the Jacksonville Beach location. One pair was completely horrible and when I went to exchange for a new pair. They not only said NOW they have to use my insurance but they also charges me more when the frames I exchanged for were 40% less on the price tag. Do not use this store if you can avoid it. Nothing worse than false advertising and failing to notify a customer of some small print that you are purchasing glasses on some top secret sale that you cannot exchange for. Horrible. Although the location was busy, Jerry took the time out of his day to provide me with a quote for prescription lenses; at the time I decided not to purchase the lenses however Jerry still re-fit and cleaned my current glasses for me even though I did not purchase them from LensCrafters. Due to the impeccable customer service I returned a few days later to purchase the lenses Jerry quoted for me and was helped by Diane and Steve. Man, I do not like leaving anything less than a stellar review, however each time I have bought glasses here the sales associates have tried to rip me off. Each time they try to up sell you and throw out higher numbers then when it comes time to check out you don't know what your getting and why it's so expensive. Today I purchased the advertised promotion of $99 for a basic pair and when I went to check out he told me it was $134. It was rectified when I questioned the price, but why should I always have to check, double check that they are charging me the correct price for what I am purchasing. Alice was very helpful in solving a glasses/frame problem prior to a wedding I was attending. Friendly, helpful and genuinely wanted to help solve a problem. So THEN, I returned two days later and was faced with an extremely rude and combative manager. Didn't get a name. But given that I was faced with such a rude and snotty manager on my second trip there, I would have concerns about returning. The only reason this location gets 5 stars is because Alice was so helpful during my first visit. read more

After loosing a pair of glasses to the Atlantic Ocean, we made a frantic trip to this store for replacement. The staff were wonderful! I went online to see what a new pair of progressive lens eyeglasses would cost since they are one of the preferred companies that Aetna recommends for me to get a discount. The price for a pair of Oakley frames with hd progressive lenses was $539.00. So I figured with my insurance which gives me a 35% discount on frames and a $200.00 allowance for my out of pocket the glasses should cost around $225.00 for my out of pocket price. I went to lenscrafters picked out the same frame with the same lenses and my insurance card. I was told that these same glasses would be $527.00 for my out of pocket. I said what about my insurance and was told this included all my benefits! I went across the street to target who is also a preferred vendor for Aetna and uses the same lab (Luxottica) to make their glasses and picked the same frame and hd progressive lenses and my out of pocket was $205.00. I realize that Target may be a little less expensive because they work on a smaller markup then a retail optometrist but this is beyond the pale! CAN ANYBODY SPELL RIP-0FF !!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I have been getting my eye exams and glasses here for 6 years, always very satisfied with the service. My most recent exam was with Dr. Jay Harrelson and I am so thankful for him taking the time to finally diagnose and correct a vision problem I have been having since suffering a concussion in a helicopter crash in 2012. He asked me about it after reading my chart and took the time to listen although I had just about given up on a solution, having seen so many Drs. and tried everything. I have felt disoriented since the concussion and was easily startled by movement around me. He did a test no one ever had before and found one eye slightly higher than the other and suggested I try lenses with a prism. The improvement was instant- I now see and feel so much better! I have since researched this and it is a documented but apparently little known cure. read more

I stopped by here to see how much it cost for a contact lens exam and fitting. Not only do LensCrafters not accept my insurance (military family), their cost quoted with a military discount is extortion. Quote was for $213!!! That does not include a regular eye exam for eyeglasses! Wow! They sure saw the back of me with a quickness. I did something really stupid- I wore my new glasses into the ocean without a cord to hold them on... And a wave took them away! An awesome teenage stranger somehow found them! They were pretty bent up but not scratched. Wearing my old glasses, I rushed over to LensCrafters, the closest place to my Dad's home, were we are visiting from Portland, Oregon. I've always (wrongly) equated LensCrafters with the fast-food of eye care, but my recent appointment totally changed my feelings. I was having trouble with my glasses and decided to double check the prescription that I received from my top-notch rated opthalmologist just 6 months prior. I planned on just going in for a quick eye check, but instead I opted for the full exam. Although it was an extra $40.00, I opted for the exam that used a modern machine which didn't require the use of dilation drops. All the machines at this location seemed to be very state-of-the art. I was so impressed with how much time Dr. Charles N. Howell, OD, MEd. took to explain my eyes and the results of the exam. The first impression I got of him made me skeptical, but after he started talking, I realized he really was quite brilliant. I have to say, it was the best exam I've ever had and I've been going to eye doctors since grade school (I used to have a -12 prescription before Lasik 15 years ago). The front office staff was very courteous and Beni, the lady who helped me decide on lenses was quite personable and knowledgeable. Overall, I was very impressed with this place. read more
