Always excellent care at this location. We also go to the location in Fleming Island, but this office is cozy and intimate. The customer service is outstanding and they use software for easy and efficient check-in and payment prior to your visit so you don't have to bring cash or cards with you. However, you can pay at the desk in person. They give you options. The follow-up appointments are set right after your visit so you can plan ahead. And the doctors are great here. We see Dr. Dupree and Dr. Javier at this location and both are exceptional at what they do. MY THREE STARS IS FOR THE STAFF OF THIS OFFICE-THEY ARE TOP NOTCH: I've really searched within my soul before considering this review. After the last 3 appointments with Dr Islam, I strongly believe my review is warranted. I have been seeing Dr Islam for just over a year and a half. After just having being diagnosed with my eye condition, I started my appts with this Dr. After the first eye drop Rx not being completely successful, she suggested an eye drop that could possibly change my eye color dark. I asked if there were alternative drops that wouldn't do this......there was. Why, would the first one be suggested then?? Why? So, it's been a few series of visits, and each one has its own story but EACH AND EVERY appointment she mentions laser surgery. WHY, if my eye drops are working, would I consider having laser eye surgery?? To go down from 2 eye drops rx's to one?? That is not enough reason & there is no guarantee that the laser surgery would work, as in the case of my very dear friend. When I ask questions, she has a smile but her responses are incredibly smug. She throws me off with her smugness, because she does it with a smile, but she is absolutely smug, and condescending, with her replies. I'm really losing my confidence with her. This is the condensed version, but she has no problems setting up frequent & follow up appointments when a problem has resolved. I advised that I cannot come every week, but I will call if I have a continued problem, due to co-pays. The Dr, I'm sure did not even realize she LITERALLY shrugged her shoulders when I said that. Like, that is not her concern (high co pays). Well, I saved myself another copay by letting her know that if I have any additional issues, I will make an appointment. Did I really need to go back every week for an entire month? I have to leave from my appointments feeling like there is a piece missing to this puzzle. I'm sure I will never get the entire picture, but I will try 1 more appointment and see if I can start to have renewed confidence in this Dr. If not, I will change Dr's or change facilities. I need to feel confident with whom is providing me treatment. Right now, it's really slim. read more

Love my doctors and staff here. I've been to three of their locations based upon convenience for me and the service I need. The way they schedule is based on service need so some days they mostly do surgery, etc. I think this makes them so efficient. I have never waited than a few minutes. read more

I had a negative experience with a staff member who rolled her eyes when I didn't want to check my eye pressure when I was there for a completely unrelated medical issue and did not need to have my eyes checked. I also felt that Dr. Islam was condescending in her manner when speaking to me during the visit. When I came to pick up my prescription, I would have to pay almost $200 dollars on top of insurance for a treatment of a stye. The visit was a complete waste of time, I could have gotten better treatment going to urgi care. read more

Dr Donald Downer and the staff at Clay Eye are amazing. Dr. Downer performed my cataract surgery 10 years ago. I went from a prescription of -21 and -20 ( yes I was legally blind from birth) to now only needing a correction of 1.25. This is nothing short of a miracle to me. My IOL's are perfect. Dr. Downer has recently been helping with a suture issue from another surgeon. ( I made a mistake a used a different surgeon from another practice (strabismus surgery). Over the past year, Dr. Downer has brought relief from the pain of Mersiline sutures used by another surgeon. He is the most caring surgeon I have ever met. I've been using Clay Eye for several years and between my fiancée and I, we have been to several locations. In Jan of 2023 I kept my eye appointment at their Fleming Island location. After the usual exam I went to the checkout where I was quoted a much higher charge than normal. I asked for an itemized bill to show what I was being billed for specifically and was told they no longer could provide the itemized bill because they did not know how much was going to be charged and what my insurance will cover. Apparently, they've changed billing providers and gone to the "surprise billing" method. Months later, I received a bill from them requesting another $25 and change. Go someplace where your insurance will be looked at ahead of time so you do not end up with charges you have no way of disputing at the time of service. read more

The only thing stopping me from a 5 star is the price for them to fit you with contacts. Other than that they are great. The support staff is courteous and ready to help you of you need it. The office is very neat and tidy. There's a new doctor that's not bad too look at either. I was in and out fairly quickly. Would've been sooner if I didn't need my eyes dialated. I hate that part. I was told to relax and call back once I had the insurance information, not even giving me the option to pay cash or simply provide the insurance information before the appointment. DO NOT SEE DR MELANIE JAVIER-- ZERO PEOPLE SKILLS- I think she really doesn't like seniors, very inconsiderate the way she treated my 80 yo mother. You cannot ask her a question and definitely don't ask her for any special help. We are not going to Clay Eye because Dr Javier is obviously all about cashing a check and punching a time clock. read more

I recently had cataract surgery in both eyes performed by Dr. Yasmin Islam. The experience was phenomenal from my first visit through the surgery. The knowledge, professionalism and care from Dr. Islam and her entire staff went well and far beyond what I had expected. I would do it all over again and I will highly recommend Dr. Islam to anyone who needs this type of surgery or anything else that pertains to the eyes. I hate to give bad reviews but I also hate horrible customer service. This review is for the Optical Shop part of Clay Eye. They don't listen to what you're needs are and sell you what they want to sell you. Than after they take Full payment for your glasses they don't call you when they come in. On top of that if a mistake was made you have to wait another 2 weeks for them to fix their mistake, but they blame it on the Lab. Remember you have choices. read more

This is a wonderful facility that not only caters to military active duty as well as retirees but their dependents. I am upset that they have been taken off the list for providers for the military. Something happened when they did the merge.... I would ENCOURAGE everyone who is interested in keeping them as their provider to call them at (904) 272-2020 and ask what they are doing to get back on the list with TRICARE. Also to call Tricare East and ask them why this facility was removed!!!! Staff is extremely professional and appointments are made quickly, however when you arrive you are shuffled around from room to room for two hours or more before seeing the doctor. It is quite crowded and seems to be a very rushed practice, leaving no time for any questions or concerns. read more

I bruised my eye in a freak shower bump from a shampoo bottle on a Friday. As it remained blood-red on Monday I went in on Monday 8am and was seen in less than 15 minutes without appointment and received excellent diagnosis. I've gone to this clinic for two decades, have had two lens implants and excellent annual follow ups. Yes, at times the wait has been a little long but I always bring good reading. And no Dr. ever promoted glasses I didn't need. read more
