I was very dissatisfied from my previous eyewear chain store, which will remain anonymous, because they sold me their "top of the line" progressive lenses but the peripheral was awful. They insisted that there is always some distortion. This "distortion" made driving difficult because I couldn't see cars on the side of me. So in I walk into Optical Arts and I am greeted by the loveliest ladies who were very friendly and helpful. I told them my concern and the gentleman who I presume was the optometrist or the owner interjected and explained to me the issue with the lenses. He took my glasses into the back to examine, came back out and said "yes, these are blank lenses and I bet you got them at blank store. These are their top of the line but the manufacturer's bottom of the line." Needless to say, I was completely surprised. He explained to me the difference between lenses and a lot of information I can't understand but I knew he knew what he was talking about. I requested their very top of line lenses because, at this point, I couldn't compromise my vision any further. He suggested I go a notch down since I really didn't need the most expensive, the one just below will be fine. I picked out a pair of Cartier frames and he measured my eyes to the lenses with both manual and computerized equipment to ensure that the lenses were perfect. And they were!! I have excellent peripheral vision and the measurements couldn't be any more precise. He made adjustments on the frame to ensure that the glasses sit correctly on my face. The attention to every detail was amazing. After wearing the glasses a couple of days, I realized that they were a bit tight behind the ears. I went back and he knew exactly where the discomfort was and adjusted them perfectly. Again, the attention given to my needs were Class A. I will certainly be going back to them in the future for all my eye needs.

Elisheva provided different options of kids glasses and ran through pros and cons. There was no upsell and no pushiness. She was very clear in her communication and friendly. The glasses were reasonably priced - $210 (120 for frames and 90 for kid safe lenses) without insurance. They also provided a one year guarantee - one free replacement if the lenses get scratched and two free replacements if the frames break. I mean, that's pretty darn awesome. Let's see how the little guy likes them, but so far so good. COVID safety - all of the staff were wearing masks and they enforced mask wearing among all customers over the age of 2. Hand sanitizer is available. There is only one spot in the store where you can take your mask off and it's cornered off with clear plastic.

I felt comfortable to put my face on the machine and the room wasn't cramped like the ones i've been to in manhattan. He usually leaves at 6pm and come on certain days. The store is open all seven days and closes at 7:30pm. There was a wide selection of brand name prescription and sunglasses to pick from. The staff members here speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Cecilia was very helpful in explaining everything clearly, she was very accommodating and friendly. I am usually very picky when it comes to shopping yet she had a lot of patience and kept her professional composure. He started the practice after World War II…read more He began as a sole practitioner, and when he sold the business in the late 1970s, he employed three doctors. He continued his practice in his home at 17 Hemlock Terrace Springfield, New Jersey. He also kept long hours as they still do at this facility at 106 Ferry Street. My father would be pleased with the latest technology at 106 Ferry Street. I vividly recall fond memories of working at the laboratory upstairs and grinding the lenses to fit the eyepiece. My father had extensive practice doing strabismus. Strabismus is an eye condition when your eye muscles are not working correctly, and you need glasses that require prisms. He correctly diagnosed, and I was able, with my father, to help cut the lenses accurately. Frame technology has not improved that much, but lenses and the equipment used to cut the large lens to the correct eyepiece have. Years ago, I would use eye blanks and graph papers to correctly insert the lens so the sphere, cylinder, and axis would be aligned correctly. I looked at the eyeglasses price, and it started at around $60 at 106 Ferry Street now. My father charged the same amount in the 1960s. I vividly recall the old American Optical grinder that he had. American Optical no longer manufactured lens grinders. The most recent and latest lens edgers are all automated and computerized. The Santinelli is one of the finest lens edgers produced. This machine includes edging, drilling, grooves, and tracing in a single unit. A new edger is the price of a new car. Ferry Street optical has continued to provide excellent service at a very reasonable price to the Ironbound Community. In conclusion, I am sure my father would be proud of the new optical establishment's accomplishments. To reiterate, 106 Ferry Street Optical has maintained high standards of excellence in the optical profession. Each one of the Doctors has the highest integrity that my father had when he was practicing. I remember he told me that he is not selling a product but a service.
