I've been here a couple of times and the food was delicious and the restaurantwas nice, clean and had pleanty of seating.. I ordered the gyro usually along with a pizza. On this particular visit my husband ordered his usual the turkey sub and I ordered a gyro. Everything was ok but the gyro. It was loaded with lettuce the meat was skimmy and dry. When I informed the server of this she simply asked if I wanted more tazaki sauce. I declined as this definitely wasn't the solution. My husband and I have visited this eatery five times three times for lunch, once for dessert and once for a special wedding anniversary meal. Henry the owner and our waitress Barbara made our sixteenth anniversary one of the best celebrations of our lives . When we mentioned it was our anniversary my Steve got a discount on our bill. When my Steve handed the tip to Barbara she gave it back saying, ""It's my gift to you. " I had French onion soup and my Steve and I hared antipasto and pasta Pomodoro. We had enough to take home along with dessert triple chocolate cake. The first time we went to Leonardos I tried the chicken salad hero. I love variety on a menu and I hadn't had chicken salad in a while. On our anniversary we went with Pasta Pomodoro because we had never had it before. As a salad lover I tried the Greek salad and the spinach salad on subsequent visits. My Steve has sampled the tuna and sausage and pepper hero sandwiches and was happy with them. The food here is delicious it bursts with flavors and subtle seasoning. On the single occasion we came here for dessert we ordered bread pudding we were given such huge portions we had to take some home. We are pleased with our take home experiences too. Recently, we ordered salads I chose chicken Ceasar my husband went with the chefs salad. We had a deluxe pizza delivered and it was scrumptious. It has mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and ham. We skipped the pepperoni and bacon. People in Virginia are friendly especially people working in restaurants. They spend time with customers they make you feel special. It was so flavorful and not greasy enough for a heart attack but greasy enough to want to reach that hand in the box for another slice. This restaurant has stood the test of time. All around it restaurants have common gone, but Leonardo has remained now for close to 30 years, maybe even over 30 years. It is your typical Italian restaurant that has plenty of really good Italian dishes as well as pizza. It certainly isn't a high-end place and two people can easily get out of there for less than $40. Leonardo's is a nice little strip-center based restaurant off Broad St near Short Pump. The location is a bit away from direct view, but easy to get to if you know where you're going. Still at the height of the pandemic (at the time), we were a bit concerned that staff did not have a mask on, but we had our on so tried not to be too concerned. Waitress was warm and friendly. My family used to order pizza from this business a lot. As of late the quality of the pizza and especially the service has declined drastically. We are vegetarians so usually only order cheese pizza, sometimes veggies. One time we had bacon pieces in our pizza- managers handled that well. The manager Oliver declined to come to the phone instead was only able to talk with Shavonya who was rude- debating the hair color with us, stating no one here has brown curly hair. Firmly insisted on being unable to assist unless we drove 30 minutes (one way) back to the restaurant to physically show the hair to them for them to remake a new pizza. After the poor verbal service, I received I would be a fool to trust this restaurant to handle my next pizza with care. I've been eating Leonardo's pizza most of my life. It's my family's favorite pizza joint in Richmond. I love their pizza sauce. It's not too sweet or salty, and coats the crust in a blanket of tomato goodness. The cheese is evenly sprinkled across and Leonardo's is never shy with the toppings! We like their online ordering system and I've never had an issue picking up our order on time! I'd love to talk about the other things on their menu but I've never managed to bring myself to cheat on the pizza. So sad that the the quality of pizza has become inconsistent. Two weeks ago our pizza was raw in the center. Our order has been the same for many years, half pepperoni and half Pizza Blanco. Sometimes the PIzza Blanco side is missing one or more ingredients, for example, no tomatoes, or no ricotta cheese. Tonight we received a PAN pizza when we have always had thin crust. We've been ordering from Leonardo's every Thursday night for as long as I can remember. It's mostly been delivery, but sometimes pick-up as well. The staff has always been super friendly and up until recently, the food has also been top notch. We generally order subs, fries and chicken tenders every week. But for the last few months, the quality has been very inconsistent. The fries are sometimes overcooked, over-seasoned or not seasoned. The chicken tenders w/fries are sometimes overcooked. Or we'll sometimes get just a small amount of both. But the biggest complaint is that the food is often cold when it gets to us. I understand there may be staffing issues that can cause delays in cook time and delivery. However, I decided to pick up my order this evening. I Ordered online around 6:30 and got to the store about 20 minutes later. The food was still not ready until 7:15. There seemed to be a couple people working at the prep station, making sandwiches and such, but another maybe 3 or 4 were just meandering around the kitchen area. At least, that was the perception. And when I got home, the fries were still overcooked/burnt and cold as you can see from the photo. When the food is on point, there's nothing better. But, when you continue raising prices and serving mediocrity, it makes me want to reconsider our Thursday night dinner choice. read more

Great pizza on the west end of Richmond seems to be a bit hard to come by. So when I come across a pizza place that I think is at least decent, I'll consider that a win in my book. Leonardo's won't be winning any awards in my opinion, but I do see myself visiting again in the future. --Food: We ordered our usual half cheese, half pepperoni pizza. The pizza itself is quite saucy and cheesy. To be honest, when it first arrived, it wasn't exactly the most appetizing due to the amount of activity going on top. However, upon first bite, the cheese and the sauce were actually really tasty! My fiancee and I both agree that our next pizza from here will be requested to have Light Sauce though, so if you're not a huge sauce fan, keep that in mind. The actual taste of the sauce is worth discussing too. I almost feel that it resembles a marinara, or at least a nicely spiced tomato Italian sauce. Good stuff. The crust is actually interesting as it doesn't really fall in the thin-and-crispy or the buttery-deep-dish category, yet isn't soggy or gross like the pizza I've experienced outside of those categories. The crust remains firm yet bready and while I'm normally a fan of crispy crust, Leonardo's crust works well. As another reviewer states, it is "doughy", but in a good way. --Cost: We didn't realize that Mondays had Large Pizza deals, so we were pleasantly surprised when we saw our bill. A large is normally about $12 + topping charges, but because we went on a Monday, our whole bill just broke $10. Definitely worth the price. --Atmosphere: We dined in as we're currently living out of a hotel, and who wants to eat in their hotel room? Not us. The interior dining area is nicely laid out with booths and tables and has a friendly feel to it. In addition, they had 90's American Rock playing. I don't really understand the choice of genre, but whatever, no complaints. --Service: Waitress was friendly and checked on us often. No complaints here either. --Overall: Despite the pizza being a bit saucy, it was pretty good! I feel it's easier to request Light Sauce than to request them change a larger component, so if that's the only gripe I had with their pizza, I'll be ordering again. I have read good reviews about their subs and other food too, so I'll probably check out some other things as well! I feel like overall I'd give Leonardo's a 3.5, but because it's relatively inexpensive and is all in all a tasty pizza, I'll round up. I know I'll be stopping by here again in the future. read more

The Cheese Steak sub at Leonardo's is quite good and we have been ordering it for years, most often for take-out. The sub includes thinly sliced meat, provolone cheese, mayonnaise, onion, lettuce and tomato on a sub roll. The sub is placed on the conveyor oven rack. It comes out hot with lightly toasted bread. If you like your bread more toasted, just ask for it extra-toasty, and they send the sub through twice. If you prefer, you can add extra meat (which we do), extra cheese, as well as peppers, Italian dressing and other condiments for an additional charge. This is our favorite steak sub in the Henrico area. Instead of fake yellow cheese (Cheez Whiz), the sub is served with real provolone cheese. Also, the size of the sub is a good size and the bun is flavorful as well. I am not sure of the size, but I think it is about 8". Sometimes we will order steak fries, which we prefer over the curly fries. The steak fries have a better potato flavor. Eat while hot though, as they don't reheat well after sitting long. The pizza served at Leonardo's is pretty good. We used to get the "Classic Deluxe", but we now prefer a pizza served elsewhere (Capriccios). If you choose a Steak Sub for take-out, you can call ahead and it is usually ready in 10-15 minutes. You can also have it delivered if you live nearby (there may be a minimum delivery order charge). Or you can choose to eat in the restaurant. We prefer double meat on our sub because, at times, the amount of meat on the sub has not been consistent. read more

This review is a bit tardy since it was a few months ago when we ate there. We had heard a lot of great things over the years about this restaurant and some good friends order takeout from Leonardo's almost every month... and they live almost 20 miles away! So when the wife and I were in the area one Sunday afternoon, we decided to stop in for lunch. The restaurant wasn't too crowded and we were seated in a booth. We ordered a ex-large "Mediterranean" breakfast pizza ($19), which was terrific! We wanted some type of fancy coffee for dessert (to wake us up, since it was cloudy, dreary day) so the waitress talked to the bartender and they whipped us up some type of decadent cappuccino which we split (I don't think it was on the menu).
