Basically it wasn't passing any fuel. I took it to Brent he told me I needed a new transmission. I trusted him. A week later after the new transmission was installed my car kept doing the same thing. I took it to another mechanic and he said all it needed was some new air filters and the Mass Air Flow Cleaned out. I called Brent to talk to him about what happened and his words were "Fxuck OFF! Completely lived up to these awesome reviews on Yelp! I was on vacation with my family, and my minivan decided to die on me while at the beach. I had it towed to Firestone, and they thought it was a transmission issue (they estimated $4,000), but said they couldn't do that work there. They suggested Leon's Transmission, and I looked up the Yelp reviews, and decided to have it towed there. Within 5 seconds of turning the key on my van, Brent diagnosed that it was not a transmission issue, but a broken axle (I only knew it was LOUD NOISES, didn't know the difference). His ear for car troubles is amazing! He knew I was from out of state, and was stranded here with my family, and decided to expedite my repairs, and ended up fixing it completely within about 5 hours. Freaking amazing! I couldn't believe with how many cars and how many phone calls he was getting, that he gave me that kind of attention, and more importantly he correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem, for a VERY reasonable price (broken axle parts and labor = $275; transmission serviced = $175)! SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! I feel like the next time I visit the beach, I will just go to him to get routine transmission service, just because he was so awesome! After being disappointed with my previous transmission shop, I was referred to Brent at Leon's Transmission in Costa Mesa. Brent was great to work with. He quoted me a fair price and even picked up my vehicle (26 miles away). Despite needing more parts than he had expected, he stood by his price. His warranty seemed to be much better than other shops typically honor. He wanted to see the vehicle back within 500 miles just to double check everything, which is a sign that he wants his customers to be satisfied with his work. I have known Bret for several years and he educated me on how to take care of a transmission. December 2017 I blew our my transmission on a used Lexus RX 300 which was used, I was sort of drag racing. anyhow Leon's Transmission rebuilt my trans updating all the parts including the planarity gears. it has been 2 years 25,000 miles and this trans is working fantastic. I do a drop and fill on the transmission fluid every 10-15,000 miles this trans will last 250,000 to 350,000 miles easily, knowing how good Leon's rebuilds transmissions. if your reading this and your vehicle need service or trans work you will not find better than Leon's transmission service. BRENT and SHANNON are VERY honest and caring! Finding trustworthy people are very hard to find nowadays....I can't thank you both enough for your professionalism and by just being extremely honest. I have a Lexus GS300 am I transmission started acting strange. (Can't go past the 3rd gear.) I had a friend scan the codes and I had a local mechanic take a look at it. He told me to go get it read by professionals. I went to Lexus dealership they didn't even really take a look at it they just automatically said I need a new transmission. Also keep in mind I gave him a couple hundred dollars for them to tell me that they don't fix Transmissions they just put new rebuilt ones in. We have a 15' box truck. The transmission went out while driving. My first thought was to call AAMCO. They gave me the run a round for 15 minutes on The phone and wouldn't give me even a ballpark price to replace the whole thing. I found Leon's on yelp and gave them a call. I just had a remanufactured transmission installed by my mechanic. Ever since, my keys keep getting stucked in the ignition. I learned how to unlock and release the key. I will shift the gear from park to reverse and then park again. This releases the key from the ignition. I called Brent to consult him on this issue. After raising my car, he noticed right away that the transmission bracket was installed with the wrong size bolt and wrong bolt with washers. Fortunately, he had the correct bolts from previous projects. That cleared the problem and no more keys getting stucked. read more

Our 1999 Toyota Tacoma began slipping out of gear 3rd and 4th gear. We were concerned that the transmission had suffered major damage and would need to be overhauled or replaced. We took the truck to Leons in Costa Mesa. Brent at Leons called later in the day and said that to evaluate the transmission he was going to have to first repair the shifter linkage. He said the plastic fittings that interfaced with the transmission were worn out and that he couldn't diagnose the problems without replacing them. To make a long story short, In his next call he said the parts had been replaced and the transmission was shifting normally. I strongly suggest that no one could take their vehicle to Leons transmission. 8 months ago I had taken it in for a service engine light on code. They replaced my PCM overalls my transmission and I still have the original problem $4,500 later. They had pushed me off on the dealer. And I still have the original problem. I had contacted the Bureau of Automotive Repair they mediated where Leon's had offered me $500 back. What a joke. So now my next step is to take them to small claims court and see what the judge thinks for I still have the original problem that I have taken it in for. My belief is I needed none of these repairs that they had done on my vehicle for it did not fix my problem. read more

My son and I were looking for a mechanic that would be honest and not give us "the run around" like several other mechanics we'd previously seen... after a year of misdiagnosis on my son's truck, and many $$ later, we decided to take his truck to Leon's transmission services. We decided to go there because another mechanic suggested that my son need a new transmission, we walked in early morning and met with Brent, he was straightforward and very helpful... We left my son's truck for a few hours and we got a call from him letting us know what the problem with the vehicle was, luckily, we didn't need a new transmission, he told us it was a muffler issue, he sent us to OC Muffler to get the problem fixed. We took the truck over there and they changed the catalytic converter within an hour and the problem was FINALLY solved... Leon's came highly recommended from a mechanic we've been going to for years. My "check engine" light came on and the code registered some sort of transmission failure. I immediately thought the repair or replacement would cost a few thousand dollars, but Brent at the shop said it might just be a faulty sensor. As it turned out, he was right and the whole experience only cost a couple hundred dollars. He could have very easily duped me into buying the new transmission, but he was honest and that's a trait that's in short supply amongst many of the mechanics I've dealt with in the past. I was worried that I might have a loose/broken flex plate on my 97 4Runner so I went in to see Brent by recommendation of a good mechanic. Brent fit me in first thing and was able to replicate the noise, then called me in when it was on the lift and showed me the problem. A bad catalytic converter! He didn't charge me anything, even though he spent over half hour of his time on my car. He also recommended a good muffler shop. Great customer service. I had my car towed in after it broke down at the intersection of PCH and Balboa. I thought it was the transmission because I heard a clunk and afterwards the car wouldn't move forward or backwards. They immediately put it on the rack and discover it was the axle which was under warranty at another garage. The first time I wrote this review, my review got filtered so I am reposting. Since my last review, I have been back to Leon's and again, Brent did a great job. My car was having problems starting up, there was a lag in the time it took for my car to actually start moving once I shifted gears. Brent fixed this and also did some other mechanical work such as replacing my gaskets which were leaking. He gave me a fair price and didnt try to sell me on other things my car "might need" which a lot of mechanics try to do. Definitely come here if your car is having transmission/mechanical problems! OLD POST: A few weeks ago I noticed that my car was making loud rumbling sounds. I took it to an auto place and found out that my car needed its transmission to be rebuilt as I had waited too long to replace the transmission fluid. This was obviously a huge headache as I knew that the cost to rebuild my transmission would be a few thousand. The place I had originally taken it to didnt do transmissions so I called around and one of the places I called happened to be Leons Transmission. I spoke with Brent on the phone and then met with him at his auto shop. Not only did Brent do a great job, he was able to match the price of the repair work with what other auto shops were charging and ending up giving me a great deal. He was honest and fair. Had a great experience with this mechanic. I was referred to him by a different and great mechanic to whom I am very grateful named Brady. I took my ford fiesta to Brent for a blown out transmission. Two other mechanics had said it needs to be replaced. He was the only one that told me the transmission control module is not working, until we get that fixed it is impossible to diagnose if the transmission itself doesn't work. I was under extended warranty for the module repair and today I was told it fixed the transmission issue and my car works again.
