I got a nice italian hero with salami, ham, prosciutto, fresh home made motzarella, marinaded mushrooms, ref peppers, perfectly baked italian bread for lunch. I really wanted a hot sandwich but on weekends there is none. This means i will have to come back on a weekday to try the hot menu offerings. One of the best sandwich spots in all of nyc. Their turkey hero with Gravy is the goat, please get it and try it. Try it fresh with hot peppers before the bread gets soggy because of the gravy. They also have daily specials such as chicken parm with pasta which is also pretty solid. They used to have a stand at citi field as well, I miss it since this place is a little out of the way for me and parking is a nightmare. read more

The absolute best sandwich spot in Corona! It's the home of the New York Mets and has been an institution for us since back in the day!

This is the most famous Italian deli in Queens. It has been here and run by the same family for over 100 years. I've always wanted to stop and try their sandwiches, which are supposed to be outrageous. The food at the U.S. Open is notoriously expensive, so I'm happy were able to make the stop. I ordered the Mama's Italian hero special by phone & will pick it up in :30. Once I was here I realized that they had piles of ready made sandwiches to grab and go. Everything looked and smelled delicious. The shop was packed with gourmet Italian items piled up to the ceiling. Our sandwiches were delicious. The bread was so fresh, there were thick slices of fresh mozzarella, and the meat was generous. Lunch was a real treat. read more

I was greeted by the owner after placing an order for the Turkey Deluxe. She was so incredibly nice and welcoming, and shared with me this eatery is indeed fact and institution to the area since-what? 1920? It's incredible that this place is still around and it is absolutely important that these New York originals do what they have to remain. It is these places that keep the spirit of New York as special as it is. The Turkey deluxe was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The gravy, made fresh daily, was perfectly savory without being salty or overpowering in flavor. The turkey felt like it was the best leftovers the evening after thanksgiving. You know how sometimes the turkey your grandmother made is somehow even better the next day? It was exactly like that, and with mozzarella. I had mine cold but definitely will have it hot next time for the variety. The bread was soft, fragrant, and had just the right amount of bite. The flavor profile was deepened by the gravy being soaked up. Again, big day after Thanksgiving vibes. All in all, I'm very happy and proud, as a native New Yorker, that these important places remain stalwart. Hope I can visit again soon. read more

Don't come here expecting dainty, hipster-nouveau-rustic, European food: this is not the place you're looking for. But, if you want a thicc sub that will delightfully fall apart in your fists during your sunny picnic in nearby Flushing-Meadows Park, Mama's will help you out. You can also come here to get cold cuts, various antipasti, Italian pantry goods, and, down the block at their bakery, Italian pastries, but I've really only come for the classic sandwich with a bunch of layered meats, cheese, pickles, and mushrooms. I am tbh always too scared to ask for any modifications to the Mama's special sandwich but I am always thrilled to eat what they give me. Is it the absolute best Italian American hoagie you're ever going to eat? I'd probably pick, locally, Stretto Bros in LIC over Mama's. But, there is something that feels "authentic" (I know, I know, the word is cringe now) about Mama's, and it's a real local mainstay that seems to have been here for generations, with the original "Mama's" daughter running the show. This place has been around for a long while, but I only came here for the first time this past summer, and now, whenever I find myself in the area, I try to come by here for a nice fresh sandwich for lunch. I'll usually get their fresh mozzarella hero, and I'll add tomatoes and peppers as well. They have hot tray daily specials, as well as other specialty Italian ingredients. Momas special is a classic sandwich and personal favorite. The sandwich was hand made and designed by Momma her herself. Mommas ides was to pre make the sandwich and have a few at the ready for the cops and firemen, so they could come in and grab and go back to work. The sandwich dont seem to last more than a few minuets. The recipe and concept is carried on by her children. Perfect sandwich! I get it every time. I don't understand the hype about this place. The sandwiches are as thin as can be. I've been here multiple times and pray that the previous time was just a mistake but I think this is the last straw. They always disappoint when I open my sandwiches and see slivers of whatever you order. They go cheap on the cold cut meats!. Let's dive into the details: Place - not ideal for parking because the area is congested all the time. If you do come here by car, plan accordingly. Also keep in mind they have a bakery/cafe section on the block. Be sure to go into the one in the corner for the average sandwiches. Service - average. Food - I got the mamas special because hey...it's mamas special! BUT be warned, they pre make these god knows how long in advance. That's a no no I'm my book. I want my sandwiches fresh. Like I said above, they do not pack it with much. You'll be hungry if you're a normal sized person. The taste of the sandwich was good though! I also tried the super Italian - I would recommend this over the Mama's special because instead of it being pre made they take the cold cuts that was pre cut from a container and then make your sandwich....yeah...but it wasn't a bad sandwich. Overall, the sandwiches are not bad but for the money you can get better elsewhere. This place is a neighborhood gem. Stopped by on Tuesday to pick up couple of heroes for a Mets doubleheader - Mama's Special and Roast Turkey with gravy. Each hero was longer than a foot long and stuffed like crazy. The Mama's Special had red peppers, mushrooms, salami, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella. The Roast turkey had some tasty bird, gravy and fresh mozzarella as well. The sandwiches were heavy, tasty and provided enough sustenance so we could enjoy eight hours at the ballpark. Total was $23 - may seem pricey, but they were damn tasty and a bargain compared to what they're peddling at Citi Field. read more

The ante upped - a whole display case of additional cured meats, specifically salami, whatever happened to salami anyway? I can't recall anyone calling its name too top an egg or populate some bread with provolone, never happens, its eighty five percent of my sandwich meat & home noshing. Ham? Turkey? Gosh -- they bore me too death. Two little women advanced the slicing arm purposefully- - too and fro with reckless abandons, a seven or eight pound piece of that spoken gelatinously encased meat was getting wacked up thin, in the Hobart slicer along with thick cuts of mozzarella. Every single customer order was the same as the modulation of chants "I'll have what he's having" grew like crickets playing telephone, chirping to the moon at night, anxiously growing and bellies groaning at the passed deli papered sandwiches reached their homes. Opting for the gravy and mushrooms atop, the taste from bite one to bite last was something out of an edible musical, deliciously dramatic and delictably theatreacle. But I am biased since living off salami and cheese are my goals in life. The sandwich usually consists of salami, ham, fresh mozzarella.
