Leroy's Fish Shack
Atmosphere and Service
We stopped by Leroy's Fish Shack around 4 p.m. on a Wednesday, when the restaurant was still quiet. The space is thoughtfully arranged, with dining areas at the front and rear and a large, well-seated bar at the back. Expansive windows overlook the deck and water, while the outdoor seating area offers beautiful views, especially at sunset.
The décor adds plenty of character. Real mounted fish hang from the ceiling, including a hammerhead shark displayed beside a fish with a bite taken out of it was caught live. Black napkins on every table add a polished touch. Our server, Nicole, was attentive, answered all our questions, and offered helpful menu suggestions.
What We Ordered
* Leroy's Seafood Chowder, Large Bowl: A hearty chowder made with locally caught fish, shrimp, clams, potatoes, celery, carrots, and onions.
* Local Catch Sandwich: Blackened red grouper served on a roll with lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce.
* Fresh Local Catch: Grilled red grouper served with coconut rice and seasonal vegetables.
Food and Overall Experience
The seafood chowder arrived looking impressive, and the large bowl could easily serve three or four people. It was rich, fresh, and packed with seafood--easily, the best chowder I've had in Southwest Florida.
My local catch sandwich featured fresh blackened red grouper seasoned just right and served on a roll with lettuce and tomato. The fries were good, but the fish was unquestionably the highlight.
My wife's grilled red grouper was also cooked and seasoned perfectly. Her coconut rice and seasonal vegetables tasted fresh, and even the signature sauce stood out. Every dish arrived hot, flavorful, and all the food was exceptionally fresh.
