Tip: The bakery accepts cash payment only. My review is for Les Châteaux Bakery, which is next door to Les Châteaux Restaurant. My dad came back from fetching lunch for my mom and me today. He normally gets sesame balls with red bean paste for my mom from T&T Supermarket. He came back and couldn't find any parking at the Warden and Steeles location. It doesn't help that we have a bunch of snowbanks occupying parking spots. It's one of the reasons why parking at Markham plazas these days is more challenging than normal. Here's my version. I went to New Kennedy Square today at 12:30 pm thinking that I would have better luck finding a parking spot. As expected, it was busy. The best part about driving a smaller vehicle is that it fits in weird parking spots. I took a parking spot that had a quarter of it with a snowbank that had slid into it, but was frozen. I backed into it and visited an eatery that I had in mind. As I was leaving this mall, it dawned on me that I should seek out a bakery and find red bean sesame balls. I was practically at the exit near CoCo Fresh Tea and Juice, and spotted Les Châteaux Bakery on my right. I went inside. I clearly looked like I was on a mission to find something. If I wasn't carrying lunch with me, I would have bought a bunch of buns here. I saw these fun hawthorn and date goodies. I still don't know what they were, but I need to go back and get some. I love hawthorn and have rarely seen it advertised at a bakery. I saw pineapple buns that looked so good. Same goes with the hot dog buns. The woman behind the counter and I had this conversation in Cantonese, but you get the translated English version: "Are you looking for something specific?" she asked me. "Red bean sesame balls," I said, beaming as they were in front of me next to her. "How many would you like?" she asked. "Three, please," I said, remember that my dad always gets my mom three. "If you get six, there's no tax," she reminded me. "That's right. I'll get six," I said. They were $10 after tax for six balls. I don't buy them often. I don't even know whether that price is good. This place accepts cash only. As someone who rarely has cash on me, I started off with $20 in cash today. I had $11.25 left. I could buy these sesame balls. Yay! She put three sesame balls in a couple of plastic bags. She then put both bags in another small bag with handles. I thanked her and wished her a great day. She reciprocated. I decided to give a bag of three sesame balls to my parents. I had the other three. I can see why my mom loves these sesame balls. This place makes them bigger than T&T. The one that I ate had a thorough coating of sesame seeds. It was so fresh and crispy when I took my first bite. I used to dislike red bean anything growing up. I like it as an adult. The red bean paste was so good. It didn't have any added sugar. It was smooth and dense. Delicious! I polished off the other two sesame balls after my workday was over. Excellent! My mom ate all of hers. My dad seemed so relieved that I got some for her. I'll be back to try the various baked buns that this place offers. I saw swiss cake rolls. It's been a very long time since I've been here, but after looking at the menus, I decided to try it out again. The menus look and sound very good, and the price points are really good compared to other restaurants in Markham. We ordered from the Markham/Tuesday specials, which includes the dish, soup, hot milk tea, AND an egg tart. All for $11.99. That's a really good deal. Flavours are mediocre, but it still hits the spot. The Malaysian Curry and Curry Chicken tasted more like Portuguese sauce to me. There's no spice to it, so add some chilli oil in it for some kick. The Satay Beef Fried Noodles were decent as well, portion was big, sauce was fine, but there was very little beef slices inside. Looking at some other dishes from the tables beside me, they looked more appealing. I'll have to come back and try other dishes. There's lots of items to choose from, lots of specials, and their menus have a lot of combos as well. Service wasn't that great. This place is so affordable! Went on a Wednesday night and there were multiple deals going on. There was one for $12 for certain dishes (one of which is their baked dishes) and comes with soup and dessert. Another option for $10 for certain dishes (chicken rice noodle) and comes with a bun, soup and milk tea. There were also some discounted seafood dinner sets. From their $12 meals, I got their curry brisket baked rice. The portions are huge here! The ratio of protein to carb is a bit lower, but didn't feel like they skimped out on the protein considering the price point. Their soup was tasty, the lai cha lacked tea flavour (but certainly not oversteeped), and the bun didn't seem fresh... Asked to pack up our food and the bill came. Completely forgot about the dessert :/, so not sure what that would have been. Service is standard and ambiance is usual loud chatter. Overall would recommend. Will try and come for afternoon tea. No idea what you guys are having to score this higher then 3 at best - whatever it is, please share - because I clearly toke the wrong route. First off , the pricing is very attractive, and portions are very fair, especially with all the overpriced stuff out and about. Service wise, typical , nothing bad and far from outstanding. Place was very very busy - so the queue was a hot minute - very noisy, and found it pretty stuffy and tight. Pineapple bun with butter, very below average for me, Vancouver definitely does this better - bun itself had no identity or flavor, topping was crisp - butter had no sign of melting at all, and was kind of hard - resulting in a pretty nasty experience. Satay beef with rice , rice tasted like leftovers, had random cold hard bits, the satay was very runny , I do prefer a thicker satay sauce, this was more of a soup to me. Continuing on my quest to find the best HK Style restaurant in Toronto, we came on a Sunday afternoon and it was completely packed. The restaurant is located inside the New Kennedy Square and finding a parking spot was frustrating. The decor was nothing special and seating was quite cramped. The service is essentially non-existent. I had to go get our own plates and it was incredibly difficult to even get the waitress's attention. To be fair though, they are quite busy. But still, even for a Chinese restaurant that isn't really known for their service, this was extremely terrible. We ordered the Hand shredded Chicken, Fish Fragrant Eggplant, Yang Chow Fried Rice, and their Fried Chicken Rice noodle. Everything was quite good but the fried rice and noodle dishes were a bit too oily for me. They have afternoon tea and a bunch of other good deals ranging from $6.99 to $11.99. Although they primarily serve HK cha chaan teng dishes, They also offer a lot South East Asian dishes like Laksa. The food is honestly quite tasty and portion sizes is great. Usually the hallmarks of a good Chinese spot is bad service but good food and so I got really excited when the server rolled their eyes and curtly muttered handmade after I asked if their roti in the Malaysian curry with roti is frozen or handmade. I also got their bitter melon with beef since I rarely get to find bitter melon dishes. After the food arrived, the roti turned out to be frozen and so not as fluffy or crispy as their handmade variant and the curry was bland. The bitter melon and beef was just ok. Time has so changed! Les Chasteaux has gone All-Recession mode. They have discount menus from Monday to Sunday, with Wednesday the most affordable at $9.99, beating many food courts offerings. The Monday to Friday menus focus on protein on rice or noodles, and the Saturday and Sunday menu focus on dinner dishes. You order bowls of rice extra. We came on Sunday, and found the dinner dishes had lot of meat. Portion was good. The recession menus are good deals. The food is just about the same as before (same over salty, over oily, good wok air). If you like the food here before you likely enjoy it. If you don't like it before you won't be surprised. FOOD: My experience here wasn't that great. First of all, I ordered a simple sandwich with milk tea. It tasted fine so I can't really comment on that - you can't really mess that up. They charged $1.25 or $1.50 to change one of our hot milk teas to cold. I'm aware that there is normally a fee but I think this is more than other cafes. Portions for other food we got were a generous size. We did hear that the curry crab was good but we didn't order it this time. We may go back to try that. SERVICE: Was not great at all. I love Malaysian/Indonesian cuisine so I was excited to try this place. I was hesitant given that they are more known for their HK bakery and HK style cafe. The fried rice isn't good at all. The flavours wasn't there and didn't really taste anything unique other than rice and soy sauce. The char kway teow was alright, but nothing compare to other ones we have had at other places. It was more of a thick rice noodle with soy sauce, mixed in with some shrimp. The service was awful. We ordered a HK milk tea which didn't come until we asked for the bill. We couldn't ask anyone during the meal because it was impossible to flag them down. They rushed to take our order after sitting down for a few minutes. The only take cash. The one good thing is that their portions are big. We ordered a fried rice and noodle for two people, and we had leftovers for both dishes. Our bill came to a bit over $40 including tips and tax. This review is for their bakery shop. We got the regular egg tarts for $2.60 a piece and their special egg tart with durian paste on top for $7.05. Egg tart is pretty decent with good filler, but don't have that nice bakery flavour taste to it. The one with the durian paste on top is a must get for durian lovers. A bit steep on the price line but everyone knows that durian is a pricey fruit to purchase. 3.5/5 Didn't get other bakery things there, just the egg tarts. We also ate at the restaurant during Valentine's Day! They now added the feature of having live vancouver crab and lobster in the tank. Almost all tables got their curry crab dinner special which is min at least $85. You can get the $125 meal that has soup, noodles or rice, curry crab, veggies. We got curry with roti (3pcs)- $13 Fried Chilli Turnip Patties- $13 Seafood Wat Tan Hor- $17 Lobster Roe Fried Rice- $17 The curry sauce was decent and the roti was okay. Its good to pour your curry into other items you have for better flavour. The curry is a bit on the watery side. The potatoes in there is nice and soft. The fried chilli turnip patties tasted a bit sour, so we assumed its probably spoiling. Its with some scrambled eggs, bell peppers. It was okay, probably pass on this dish going forward. Seafood Wat Tan Hor- Rice Noodles with egg sauce, veggie, fish cake, mussels, squid, shrimp, imitation crab. The flavour is alright, but most of the seafood is pretty much frozen and tough to consume except the fish cake and shrimp and imitation crab. Lobster Roe Fried Rice- Simple fried rice with some green beans, carrots, lobster roe. Quite pricey for a simple fried rice version. We wanted to get their Chao Kuay Teow and was told there wasn't any available, eventhough, we had early dinner around 5:30pm. Funny thing is when we were paying the bill, we saw a new table literally have this dish come to their table. This is one of the places we generally get certain items for Malaysian food, but really its more chinese inspired cooking. The "Penang Char Kway Teow" is good - if you don't treat it as Penang Char Kway Teow. It's actually dry fried prawn horfun. It uses hor fun, not the thinner sort of rice noodles. It's topped with fried and spring onion, tomato and cucumber. The wok hei (smoky wok flavour) is pretty good, it's a huge serving and there's a lot of big prawns, but there're no other ingredients (oh, but there's also onion strangely). There's also no chili. The Indonesian fried rice is pretty tasty with good wok hei. Unfortunately the Nonya fried rice is only OK. It has a hint of sambal belachan and a touch of spiciness. There's only a little wok hei Portuguese sauce pork chop was ok. It had a coconut sauce that looked like curry but didn't taste of it (as it's supposed to). It was also odd in coming with peppers and onion. Sambal belachan eggplant was decent. Portions here are big. But the service is bad. They screwed up the order and brought the wrong dish once. The menu is quite extensive with a good selection of HK style cafe food. Portions are good for the price. Service is amateur but not poor when I went for the few times. That being said, my family members quite enjoys the place for its fast service, its average food, and also the pricing is relatively good for the portions. In terms of food, generally speaking, its more oily than your average HK cafe, particularly when compared to the ones in New Kennedy Plaza. The flavour profiles are present, but the dishes can get heavy. A few dishes to note: Satay beef vermicelli 3/5 - satay base is quite standard and what you expect from your average cafe in terms of flavour. A good balance of saltiness with a hint of spice coming from the satay. vermicelli was generous in portion, but there was a lot of oil. Hainan chicken rice 3/5 - portion is really big. The chicken was well cooked and still had a bit of juiciness. Rice was average with not too much flavours of chicken. Sauces were ok as well, but nothing too special. We came on a chilly spring day around lunch time. The only available seats were right by the door to the parking lot. We didn't want to wait so we took that table. It was quite cold sitting there. Every time someone would come in there would be a cool breeze. Good thing food didn't take too long to come out so we warmed up a bit once we started eating. The char kwei teow was bigger than expected and very tasty. I didn't really taste the heat from the chilli peppers but I did also stay away from them. So I said I would return for a follow-up review... I came back for a dinner recently, not intentionally, it was decided for me. The reason I was so disappointed last time was because they opened prematurely, had untrained staff and menus too basic, and I unfortunately had to experience all of that. An unfair review placed upon themselves imo lol. This time around, it seems they have all that readjusted. The food was made well, with balanced flavours and portions exceptionally big. The menus make sense. Contrary to my last visit, they have lunch/tea combos now like a normal HK-style restaurant, which is more my style. After scouring Yelp for any HK cafes I haven't yet been to, I found Les Chateaux Restaurant! Apparently my mom is actually a regular here so she's been holding out on me. We came here for afternoon tea that runs from 2:30pm - 6:00pm. There was lots of space available including many coveted booth seats. Just a tip during the cold weather but it is totally drafty sitting next to the windows. Enough that you might want to keep your jacket on so choose your seats wisely for maximum comfort. If you are really cold for some reason the washrooms were toasty warm so you can always warm up in there. :) We were ready to order and the ladies were very attentive. They brought over hot tea even though with the afternoon tea orders came with drinks. The pork chop with fries came out first. The fries were hot and crispy and just a little bit powdery. The pork chop was a big portion. It could have used a little bit more flavor though. I had the baked spaghetti bolognese. One thing that they did perfectly was with the cheesey baked crust on top. As for the rest of it, it really could've used more sauce and meat. To cap off the meal we split a french toast that came with melty peanut butter in the middle. It was so good with just a little bit of the melted butter...no syrup even necessary! It was the perfect accompaniment to the HK milk tea we got which was very smooth and not too strong. read more

Not a fan. Place like any others have mentioned is r ally a hit or miss. The other day when i went i ordered condense milk butter sandwich. They told me ran out of toast if i can have a plain bun instead, im like sure i wont be picky... Then when they brought me my food they gave me the plain bun with butter. Im like what do you mean i dont get it, i paid for a condense milk and butter toast, you said you dont have toast you're just replacing that with the plain bun how are you not giving me what i ordered. Its like are you gonna lower the price cause you served me one less item?? After argueing for a while someone else came and gave me the condense milk. Clean and comfortable nicely renovated restaurant focused on Malaysian/Chinese cuisine. Ordered the Hainanese chicken rice, it was pretty bland. Also had the chicken with red curry (we ordered green curry but the kitchen made a mistake and the waitress convinced us to keep the red rather than remaking what we ordered), this was very flavourful. Food: the fried noodle is a 10/10 for me because it is very chewy and full of flavour but at the same time not too salty. The macau pork cutlet sandwich is definitely not authentic but the fact that they used 餐飽 (soft and sweet) instead of 豬仔包 (harder and saltier) was an interesting alternation. They also added cheese and other veggies making it more like a hamburger instead. Interesting choices of ingredients but the it tasted pretty good as well! Probably because it has 20% discount. They have lots of choices, run and displayed very similarly to Phoenix on Raymerville. Prices are about the same too. Only some of their menus have English. I ordered 家鄉炒米 (hometown style fried vermicelli) and 干炒鷄片意粉 (dry fried chicken in spaghetti). The soups came first (chicken feet and some type of beans) and it tasted just like mama makes it. The vermicelli was great! Sufficient toppings, taste was there, and not oily at all. We finished this asap. But the spaghetti. It's supposed to be dry fried, meaning I should not see it coated in oil. In the end, we didn't even touch this because it was so poorly cooked. So why 4*? When we got the bill, the waitress offered us a box for takeaway but we said we don't want one because of the spaghetti. We didn't complain... We weren't even going to talk about it. But we said that the name is DRY fried and this was super oily, so it's a no. She said we're right, so she's going to take it off our bill. Have you ever heard of Chinese diners doing that before?! Also, the AC was sufficient most of the time. They have a TV on which they broadcast Chinese singers' past concerts... With lyrics. They have two entrances so that definitely increases the traffic. I would come here again if they have such great service. But I don't think I would order any dishes from the dry fried section for a long while. The char kueh teow is not spicy at all no matter how much you emphasize to the waitress that you want the spicy version. It used to have "wok hei" a few years ago, but recent visits were disappointing. Curry laksa is tasty, but don't expect it to be authentic Malaysian/Singaporean flavours. The waitresses are ALWAYS pushing curry crab but we only go there for the noodles. Tables used to have chilli oil condiment, but in recent visits, those are gone. If you ask for hot sauce, you will be given sambal oelek. When we first found this restaurant 4-5 years ago, we were excited and told all our friends about it. Ended up ordering Home Style Vermicelli. Food was meh. The stir fried vermicelli was just so oily and salty! Even at 20% off, I felt like this is not worth that price. I rather pay a little more and go to eat at Congee Queen or Keung's Delight. Staff was nice and helpful but if you don't have most of the items on the menu available, customers won't be happy. There was also a big piece of fried shrimp chip.. took a bite of it and never touched it again. The chicken roti was okay. Would've preferred if it was a bit warmer. The roti was soft. The curry had good flavours but not the best that I've had. They only had it for chicken, would be nice if they offered beef. They only take cash! Service was standard. I went one Saturday earlier November @ brunch time and this place was super busy. I had to queue for 20-30mins. Seating is super tight here. So I don't recommend coming with a baby stroller. The restaurant has two entrances. One in the mall and one outside. Basically go in grab a number and stay inside the mall side. There is no room to stand in the restaurant and wait. They will yell out your number in to the mall area lol. (I just wish they have a buzzer puck option.) Purposely came here because my mother heard ads on the radio about this place, well we wanted to try and was hungry for Malaysian food. (There are not that many good places for Malaysian dishes in Toronto. This restaurant is interesting, it has a good array of Cantonese food, HK style dishes, and a small selection of Malaysian food. Some Malaysian dishes are limited for the day. TIP is: While queuing or once seated, make sure to ask if the dish you would like to eat is available. We actually wanted to eat bak kut teh on the menu but that was all sold out. We ordered: -Hainanese chicken rice -chicken curry with roti (we didn't want the rice as the side) -kway teow All dishes were very delicious. It was worth the wait and satisfied our tummies. Will come again. I might have to come earlier to avoid the crowd??? However this Kennedy/hwy7 plaza is always ridiculous. If you come here be prepared to be stuck in the parking lot and good luck finding parking. read more

Name is french but it is a malaysian restaurant. However but most dishes are more hong kong looking. Confusing. Food wise: quantity is really good. Amount of meat on the shy side. I would recommend the lasa curry but not the tow noodles. Seating: plenty of seating with tables able to combine. Service: decent and speaks english read more

Les Chateaux used to be just a bakery, but had extended their business to became a HK style food as well. The decor is quite stylish with a darker tone colour that is modern and uncomplicated. The food menu looked a little cheap though, because they were already kind of ripped. Maybe they can try laminated them to make them last a little longer. Food here is really economical, but the portion also reflected that. I ordered the preserved eggs with minced pork congee and ox tongue pastry. The pastry was quite good, but I waited for almost 20 minutes after congee had been served. I liked to eat the congee and fried sweet dough together usually, so it felt like a wait for a century. read more

Their laksa is the best here. Roti and curry sauce is absolutely amazing. They have seafood galore as well and cheaper than the lobster mountain place. Good service. read more

[LOCATION] - 4/5 Initially, my friends and I wanted to eat dinner at Restoran Malaysia until their hostess informed us there was a 45-minute wait for a table of four. We settled for Les Châteaux, and immediately got a table upon arrival (a clear indicator that shows the relative status of this restaurant). [FOOD QUALITY] - 2/5 I gave this place the benefit of the doubt and tried dishes from their "Authentic Malaysian Menu," but flavours were not authentic. [ORDER] - Penang Char Kwei Teow (Fried Hor Fun with Mixed Seafood) - $10.99: did not reminisce any Malaysian flavours as the dish just tasted like Chinese Stir Fried Beef Noodles with shrimp instead of beef. - Singapore Lakhsa - $10.99: broth was too watery. - Malay Curry Beef Flank Rice - $12.99: lacked flavour. - Ikan Billis Crisp Prawns with Coconut Spices - $14.99: had mountain of coconut spices sprinkled on top of a few crustaceans. Flavour was okay but spices and grease made it hard to remove the exoskeletons from prawns. [OVERALL] - 2/5 My intention was to try dishes that bring out Malaysian strong flavours and aromas. Come back for their char kway teow, too bad they don't have kway teow, can only use hofun instead, glad the taste still good, just with different kind of noodles. Also want to order the shrimp noodles in soup, again, server said they don't have, wth? Only shortly before 12noon and sold out everything? Or have not prepared yet? Anyways, order a laksa instead, glad didn't make me disappointed. Hopefully next time they have better preparation. read more

Malaysian food here is pretty damn good. Didn't get a chance to try the HK style food but I was pretty happy with my orders. The place gets pretty busy around lunch time but the turnaround time is pretty quick so you don't have to actually wait too long. The only thing is that there are 2 entrances (in mall and outside door) so sometimes there's confusion as to who has come in first. The safest best is to walk to the cash if you're coming in from the mall entrance to avoid any confusion. Tried the chicken curry and char kway teow. Flavours were amazing and the curry sauce I could just eat with a side of white rice. The rice noodles had very good "wok hei" but just a tad bit oily. read more

This is a review for lunch on December 13, 2018. First off, a warning: if you're inside the mall and look at their menus posted near the glass door, please keep in mind the menus list outdated prices. My mom and I stopped by and decided to give this place a try and we realized when we sat down that the menus they gave us were updated with newer (more expensive) prices. Second, the service here could really, really use some work. We sat down and were handed menus but it was almost time for afternoon tea (2:30pm). We flagged down a server to ask for the menus and the server was incredibly rude and threw down the menus for us... We ended up just getting the all day breakfasts. The noodles for both were incredibly oily, but the only thing I noticed that was different with this restaurant was that they use condensed milk in their toasts that accompany the meals. I am curious about their curry dishes but the bad service and attitude from the servers prevent me from coming back. read more
