Six weeks out and I can report that the healing is going well and I highly recommend Leshem. There were no surprises. It cost exactly what they said it would cost and Molly has healed at Exactly the rate they said. Of course, carrying a 70 pound labrador up three stories of stairs for the last six weeks has not been fun but apparently I've got in shape too. The lab was only six years old so the surgery or something I felt I had to do. I highly recommend Lehmen. Straight shooters with no nonsense, no sugarcoating. Just medical facts. This review is long overdue and I would give Dr. Leshem and his team 10 stars if I could. My puppy Bruno had two severely fractured femurs in July and needed surgery as soon as possible. Dr. Leshem was referred to me by a good friend and even though it was the weekend and he was off work, he took the time to talk to me and calm me down and even let me text him with any concerns. Despite the doctor's busy schedule, Bruno was booked for surgery that Monday. I was warned of the worst possible outcomes from this extensive surgery but for some reason I felt safe leaving him there and knew he'd be taken care of. I wasn't wrong. A month later with the help of physical therapy Bruno was almost back to normal. Fastforward to September and Bruno is back to doing zummies around the yard, splooting and chasing squirrels. Dr Leshem is truly a master of his craft, very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. My 8 yr old dog was limping and it was determined that he suffered a significant CCL tear with possible meniscus issues. Dr Leshem performed an evaluation in January and was confident that with the surgery my dog would be running and hiking with me again by June. We elected to use Dr Leshem for the surgery and we are so glad we did. He repaired the full CCL tear and a portion of the meniscus. Although the mobility limitations and physical therapy were tough for both us and my dog, his surgery was a resounding success. We followed Dr Lesham's post op direction exactly as noted on the documents and I am sure this played a huge role in my dog's surgical success. He was able to go on long hikes at the end of June without any limping or noticeable mobility issue. In fact as of Aug he was also able to go on long runs (5 miles) at a 11 minute mile pace. I would recommend Dr Leshem and his team for anyone requiring surgical intervention on their dog. read more

To learn that your furry best friend has a torn ACL and it's something that can only be remedied by surgery with an overnight hospital stay is a devastating situation to find yourself in, but Dr. Leshem and his team showed a dedication, love and professionalism that shined through every second. This was not assembly line medicine, but genuine care. A special thanks to Devan for going over everything with me and offering encouragement to me the day I picked up my Beau dog to bring him home. The follow up call 3 days later to see how my dog was doing was unexpected and much appreciated. Beau has a long way to go with daily recovery but his future looks optimistic now from where he was before I called Dr. Leshem. I'm so glad I made that call! read more

When my cat Moby suddenly became lethargic and stopped eating over the summer and no vets were taking appointments, we thankfully found Dr. Lesham who got us in that day. Turns out Moby had a large tumor on his intestines that needed immediate surgery. This was all incredibly overwhelming but we had to make a decision very quickly. We decided to go ahead with the surgery the next day to give him the best possible chance. Dr. Lesham called me personally and let me ask as many questions as I needed to. He was calm and compassionate and honest and him taking the time to talk it all through meant the world to me since I was incredibly worried and panicked. He said he'd call me during the surgery to let me how things looked, which he did. Unfortunately, the tumor was large but Dr. Lesham removed it all. During his recovery, Dr. Lesham and his staff were always available to take my calls and were incredibly patient. The big question was what to do post-surgery b/c he needed chemo. They don't ordinarily do chemo treatment there but since Moby didn't have a regular vet here (we live full-time in Boston), Dr. Lesham made an exception for us and was kind enough to consult with an oncologist and administer the chemo himself. I can't fully express how grateful I am to Dr. Lesham and his wonderful staff for the incredible care they provided for my sweet boy. We've had an additional 5 months of time with Mobes during which he's back to his old self, eating, drinking, playing, and loving life. Grateful for each day we have with him and I can't recommend Dr. Lesham and his amazing staff enough. They're the best. read more

We brought our 5 yr old Aussie to this once great establishment, with sudden onset incapable of urinating. Dr. Lesham's staff charged us over $900 for scans and other procedures to verify our 5 yr old Aussie had a bladder stone which needed surgery and removal. I was told to call the next day, which I did. That's when I talked directly to Dr. Leshem. He knew time is of the essence when any animal cannot urinate, but he had the gaul and indecency to actually tell me the first available day he could operate would be 8 days out! I asked him to please re think his timing , and he began talking out loud to himself between 10-15 second dead silence pauses ( with me asking "Are you still there?) rambling on to himself if he could do it earlier, and after pondering scenarios in his head, each time said "no". After being charged $900+ the previous day the last thing a pet owner wants to hear is a 8 day wait by Leshem when the dog cannot urinate! At that point I realized this man was a buffoon that could care less ( except give me the price tag of the operation!) and I had to find someplace fast! That same day I took my dog to "Central Hospital for Vet Care" in North Haven where upon examination they said she was obviously uncomfortable, and admitted her on the spot! Operated on at "Central" the very next day and they removed a QUARTER SIZED bladder stone. Leshem, you buffoon, how is a pet supposed to live in pain and agony for a full 8 days after being diagnosed with a QUARTER SIZED bladder stone?! My experience is : If you want quality care when time is of the essence, then do not see Leshem. Go to other places like "Central" that actually care about your pets and when needing immediate surgery they do so! read more

While we wish we never had to bring our dog here in the first place, we are glad we found Dr. Leshem to take care of our pup! The staff was very friendly to us, but especially our dog, and Dr. Leshem really seemed to care for him, wrote great surgical follow-up notes, and responded to our concerns in between visits. When our vet recommended taking our dog (who is like our child) because it was where she has taken her own dog for surgery, we figured it would be good, and indeed ended up meeting/exceeding our expectations. My dog Molly was recently hit by a car and had her back right leg amputated. Dr. Leshem is a great board-certified surgeon; he was fabulous throughout Molly's pre and post surgery. Because of Covid, you are not allowed to go in with your animal. My cat has not been able to go to the bathroom in THREE whole days and they have left us waiting in the parking lot for hours, saying she is "stable" and not a priority. It is unacceptable to tell someone they're beloved, furry family member is not a priority when the animal is clearly in pain. They don't seem to listen either. We went there first on Friday and sent us home with a stool hardener after we told them she seems CONSTIPATED. They said it wasn't a urinary tract infection but on the report, it said her urine was cloudy. Communication is key, especially when you can't be in the room with your animal, but they don't even call to give you updates. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

AG referred us to Dr. Leshem (the Liver expert!) and from consultation through follow up, Dr. Leshem, Danielle and the entire team took such great care of her. We had difficult discussions with them pre & during surgery but we knew she was in great hands. This team treats their patients as if they were their own pets. You wrote a review for Veterinary Emergency Center One week ago 9/9/2019 My 16-month-old beautiful German Shepherd puppy died suddenly. The Vet at VEC told me to take him for a necropsy (autopsy for animals) at UCONN, CVMDL, to find out what happened. UCONN Senior Pathogist said Leshem Veterinary Surgery did not store the body properly! They have no refrigerator for proper storage & just threw the body on top of a freezer on the back porch! It was over 40 degrees that night & tops of freezers & refrigerators are hot! The organs in the body were already too warm & rotten to get a proper diagnosis. After spending hundreds of dollars & consulting with more than 6 Vets, I will never know why my puppy died all because Leshem Veterinary Surgery did not preserve his body for the necropsy! THEY are the ones that told me to take his body for a necropsy. How can they not preserve the body properly? UCONN was very expensive. I spent close to $1,000 on this nightmare. DVM. Leshem refused to make changes to his practice by getting a proper refrigerator & refused to reimburse me for following their directive. Let me ask you...what do they do in the summer to preserve pets' bodies for necropsies? Good luck with that. I am preparing complaints to the CT Vet Medical Assoc, American Vet Medical Assoc, CT Dept of Public Health, and small claims court. read more

I can't thank Dr Leshem enough for his kindness by making a house call at 8:30PM. My toy poodle was in pain and suffering from GI symptoms for days. Prior to Dr Leshem's brilliant diagnosis and treatment plan we brought her in for 6 emergency visits to other veterinary clinics where they ran every test/ultra sounds/x-rays and were not able to diagnose the problem. my dog copper wasn't eating took him to the vets and had some tests done and it was determined that my dog needed surgery we scheduled his surgery but went in to have a consultation with Dr. Leshem .once there he examined him he was running a high temperature and needed surgery that night .Dr. Leshem gave us hope that my older dog still had some good years left and stayed late to operate on my dog.
