I have never in my life experienced such an unprofessional and careless veterinary office. I had to take my 6-month-old puppy to another emergency hospital less than eight hours after leaving this one because his condition rapidly declined. My dog was having a clear negative reaction to a toxin, and we were in this hospital for less than 30 minutes. The "doctor" took him to the back, glanced at him, and made a guess based on something they assumed was from his past. There was no additional testing, no further investigation, and no effort to confirm the diagnosis. I learned later that day that their assumption was completely wrong. By the time we reached the second emergency hospital, my puppy was experiencing tremors, seizures, instability, and could barely walk. Even worse, his gums were pale while we were still at the first hospital, and they didn't even give basic supportive care like IV fluids. What makes this even more disappointing is the interaction I had later that day with the receptionist. When I called--scared, confused, and simply trying to confirm the doctor's notes--she was inconsiderate, defensive, and extremely unprofessional. Instead of listening to a worried pet parent, she acted like a snarky child, cutting me off, speaking short, and giving attitude as if my questions were an inconvenience. It is terrifying that this is one of the only emergency hospitals within a reasonable distance, because the level of care we received was unacceptable. As a pet parent, I rely on trained professionals to guide me--especially when I'm not educated in veterinary medicine. Having to fully trust a medical team that provided such minimal, dismissive, and incomplete care of a 6-month-old puppy is beyond concerning. For an emergency/surgery-focused facility, you would expect attention to detail, urgency, and compassion. What we experienced was the exact opposite. This could have cost my puppy his life. read more

It's a shame I can't put down 0 stars. I called ahead to make sure they would be able to get my dog seen and still waited in the lobby for 5 hours. The doctor was extremely rude to us. Kept implying that we didn't take care of or do not care about the health and safety of our pet. The doctor was pushing us to go into a multi-thousand dollar treatment without explaining anything that was happening. They did bloodwork and then somehow lost the sample so my dog needed even more poking and prodding. After going to an actual vets office, we were told the truth about how her survival rate wasn't good. That she did not need to be put through the pain and process that the doctor at VEC was trying to make us do. And then the bill. We are sitting in the office and know what tests I signed and have consent to. The receptionist tried over and over to charge us for procedures and tests not even done to my dog. Do not bring your dog here for the betterment of yourself but also your pets health and safety. I will do everything I can to never have to set foot in this place again read more

We were told the wait would be 1 hour to have our puppy X-rayed for a possible bowl obstruction. We waited 4 hours for the X-ray "to be read". It shouldn't take that long for an X-ray to be interpreted. My guess is it was in a queue waiting to be read remotely as there were very few dogs waiting to be seen. When the results came back, the vet clearly had no idea what she was looking at. She just read a bunch of words from her paper and told us she may need surgery and that they were closing soon and we would need to go to West Hartford or Middletown. If there's a chance of surgery with an obstruction, we should have been told from the start that they weren't equipped to handle that possibility. Instead we paid $1100 only to wait another 4 hours and pay another $2500 in West Hartford. After the experience we had and reading all the reviews on here, we're also questioning the advice they gave us in June to euthanize our other dog. We'll never take our pets here again. read more

Had a pet emergency on a holiday weekend, they were open and able to help. They did take my pet into exam room with out me, which I found upsetting, but the doctor did an exam, advised on findings and provided a take-home treatment. Receptionist, techs and doctors were all kind and concerned for my pet, much better than a large busy pet ER have been to in past. read more

I see there are a lot of bad reviews so I want to add 3 positive ones:over the last 10 years I've brought my dog, my daughter brought her dog, (which required emergency intestinal surgery,) and my best friend and I brought hers yesterday after her dog lost a fight with a porcupine while hiking. When i brought my dog the doctor talked me out of a costly surgery and long recovery that likely would have not gone well given his age and compassionately helped me come to the decision the put him down. I could not have asked for more compassion at the time. All 3 experiences here have been amazingly good and I have no problem recommending them. read more

I called ahead and told they weren't very busy. So I took my 80 pd shepard mix there. I saw Vet Dr Cindy Petrauskas, who before even looking at or touching my dog was stating his problem was this or that. The Vet seemed nervous to even touch my dog until I agreed to a $103 shot of morphine. I went there because my dog's front paw was swollen, red and he was limping. I explained he'd been licking it constantly and holding it up off the ground and limping for 4-5 days. Instead of putting a cone or a muzzle on him, she chose to sedate my 9 year old dog. And he was out of it and high for the rest of the day. My dog had just had his annual physical. And I showed Vet previous bloodwork, and that he was recently tested for lime disease, had all related shots and monthly meds. That he is well taken care of and has a regular veterinarian that couldn't see him til next week. I explained his condition and symptoms, but it was like she wasn't even listening. Telling me its lime disease and claiming his problem was higher up on his leg and not his paw. Vet mentioned he possibly had a broken bone in his leg, but I was told they were too busy to take an xray. And so I left there with no diagnosis or answers. Although his paw was visibly red and swollen. Only good thing was we got some anti inflammatory and pain meds, which did help. All costing a whopping $403!!!!!! I got no diagnosis and told to follow up with my own vet. The vet tech/nurse was great tho and helpful and seemed to listen to me Agreeing with my concerns about his paw. I will not be going back there or recommending this facility. read more

We brought our Stanford terrier to them after he got tangled with a porcupine. They had one other patient come in just before us and we had to wait 10 to maybe 15 minutes before they brought us in which we had no complaints about. With the sedation and quill removal, the total cost of the bill was. $1000. We certainly hope he doesn't get into a porcupine again. While he was sedated, they did additional work to his toenail on his spa. They trimmed it back to the base and then bandaged it very well. They also trimmed all of his other nails. So in an emergency situation, which is what we had, we cannot complain about the service certainly, they took us immediately. It was much better than driving all the way to West Hartford on Sunday we're from the northwest corner of Connecticut. read more

Our dog had got loose and was out in the wild for 6 days before she was found. When we picked her up at the house where the owners had found her lying on the grass unable to move, we took her to the Veterinary Emergency Center. They took her right in and took care of her bloody paws, the animal bites that she got while she was in the wild and made sure she was hydrated. We were very impressed with the level of care and their follow through. She recovered completely as a result. read more

On Saturday, August 31, my husband and I were out of town and got a phone call from our 28-year-old daughter, 'C,' in inconsolable hysterics. Her cat had suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Our normal vet was closed, and we had dealt with this emergency vet before, so, trying to help our understandably grieving daughter, I told C I would call them to make arrangements. I called 1.5 hours before closing. The woman on the phone was more condescending than anyone I have ever dealt with anywhere. She acted like I was the dumbest person on Earth for not knowing that because I don't own the cat and C is not a minor, she can't talk to me. I understand HIPPA laws for humans. I guess I didn't think telling me when the office closed so I could let C know if she'd have time to get there was a violation of anyone's rights. I got off the phone and told my husband that quite frankly, this woman made me feel I was a criminal for even calling. I got in contact with C's best friend who was helping her navigate this and told her they wouldn't talk to me at all, that my C had to call. She did and a very nice man, we can call him 'E,' answered and told her they close at 8. C was like oh, no! It says we will be there by 8:05. E said no problem at all. Come in and they will be there. At 8:05 they were still a couple minutes away, so C called just to make sure everything was still ok to come. The same woman I spoke with picked up the phone, we will call her 'J.' J told C that she (C) will not be coming today. C told J that E said it was fine even though they were technically closed. J said, "Look, get over it. It's not happening." C asked J if she could talk to E, to which J curtly responded No. C asked why not, and J said that he had stepped out, to which C said she could wait. J said, "No, you won't," and then promptly hung up on C. TLDR: The receptionist here is unprofessional at best. It would be wildly inappropriate to be treated like this at a shoe store. Dealing with the public who are in shock and grief at the sudden loss of a pet, this is cruel and bordering on inhumane. J is THE WORST!!! Full disclosure: C called back and absolutely reamed J out. Went verbally nuclear on her. C is no longer welcome at this establishment. We are moving out of state anyway, hence the reason my husband and I were out of town. read more

Brought my dog here for excessive vomiting due to kennel cough and frequent coughing. Was sent home with oral meds, despite my concern that if she's vomiting, how she can possibly keep those down. Sure enough, brought her back the next day for hospitalization. Didn't even blink an eye when signing a high estimate. I have been a licensed tech for over 15 years and I have a great deal of compassion for my industry. Knowing how hard it is, and how abusive some can be. I didn't feel heard by this vet. I didn't feel like she cared at all. She told me she'd update me; and 24 hours went by and I heard NOTHING from them. I called for updates, was told a dr would call. She never did. I saw she took the time to update her influencer account, but not call me; even when promised. The fact that you provide zero communication to a pet owner is unacceptable. My husband came and got her the next morning so we could transport her to my job. They provided no details as to when meds were given. I had to get that out of them. They also didn't walk my dog overnight at all. They claimed they were "unable" on her record. She is a non aggressive, 20 pound dog on fluids, who wasn't given an opportunity to go outside!! I will never return. Lastly, they dictate to you what your care credit interest terms can be. Another think I've never seen in my life. We always offer extended interest for care credit I was told "the owner doesn't do that". I was upset with the level of care and the lack of updates and they knew that I worked for another local vet and they never addressed any of these concerns I had with them I will never ever go back there and I don't recommend anyone does either. read more

Brought my 3yo. dog in w what seemed to be a life threatening illness. Dog puked went down, didn't eat drink or move out of bed for 2 days. Took dog in never asked 1 question on health or history. After an hour or 2 Dr. Elan Armstrong gave me a pamphlet on Vestibular Disease . Recommended to see neurologist at Pieper Emergency and get CAT scan and MRI. Said I wasn't interested. In all staff recommended 3 times. At this point "0" communication about disease ramifications . Got dog back. Bill for $1300 w script for antibiotics. They could not fill the script. and didn't give me other options and charged for them anyway. At this point still thought dog was at deaths door. Also enquired about euthanasia. After consulting w my vet told me : as extreme as the symptoms are can clear up in a timely fashion w antibiotics. Dr. Elan Armstrong is not ready for emergency medicine w 3 yrs. exp. Her female assistants are nasty . Office Manager , Michele Moore is human garbage and a dimwit. Staff had no interest in the heath of the dog. Is a "0" rating possible? read more

Having to take your pet to the vet is no walk in the park, especially on a cold winter day, and more so when their regular vet is closed and they have a medical issue that needs attention. After calling and speaking to the awesome Desiree, who was so kind, promptly took down all of my information and honest enough to let me know about the office's longer than usual wait times this particular afternoon, I decided to bring my Frenchie in to be seen over a possible infection and allergy flare up. When I arrived at the hospital, I called to check in and let them know I was in the parking lot and was then called by a technician for more info about my dog. Covid protocols are still in place (which I happily obliged) and a technician came out to get my dog shortly after, which was a pleasant surprise, since I assumed I might have to wait a bit. I waited in the car while my dog was being checked out. Dr. Reagor was the vet on duty and he was fantastic! He came out to speak to me in person about my dog's diagnosis and actually gave me advice that will save me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars a year to manage my pup's lifelong allergy issues. He could've easily charged me to run a million tests or ply her with unneeded drugs, so his honesty was refreshing and so appreciated! My dog and I are home now and she is already feeling better, which in turn makes me feel a lot better. I highly recommend Dr. Reagor and his fantastic staff at Veterinary Emergency Center in Canton for your pet's needs. read more

I wish we had time to check reviews before entering this center. They were very concerned to obtain payment before letting me know their opinion about my animal's condition. They kept my animal for over eight hours. I requested to come pick her up after two hours. She was not let out to relieve herself. She was not physically examined. She returned home eight hours later in the same condition she was admitted in...dragging her feet, her legs collapsing and her full body tremors, but her back nails had been trimmed....we thought it was strange. We found ticks on the side of her neck, removed them and she returned to her normal self with in 30 minutes....CLEARLY LISA CARTER DID NOT EXAMINE THE ANIMAL...maybe that's why the dog was scratching herself where the ticks were! My puppy had Tick Paralysis. Be careful where you take you animal in any emergency situation...the closest is not always the best so, when you are responsible to get your pet emergency treatment, there is good emergency care in Avon check them out if you're in need! The Emergency Clinic Saw my postpartum female boxer when we discovered a small puncture hole in one of her teats. We were told by the surgeon That there was a cyst that had been punctured and that she would need surgery to remove it. They did the surgery the same day, but when we were called to let us know how the surgery went, we were told by the surgeon that she was leaving the wound open, with a wet to dry packing and we would need to return every 24 hours to have the bandaging changed. We went to pick our dog up when we were told to. Took her home and before the 24 hours was up, our dog had a fever of 104.3 and was very lethargic. We called and were told we could bring her in early, but we made need to wait to be seen as it was between Christmas and New Years and it was very busy in the clinic. Understandable. We brought her back to the clinic and waited, approximately an hour and a half. At that point the vet on duty that day came in and told us that they did not have a surgeon in service there for 6 days and that our dog needed another surgery because she had Mastitis. She also indicated that she needed to be on IV antibiotics and probably pain mads. She recommended A hospital in West Hartford and Another in Middletown, since we had been to the Middletown Hospital, that was where we went. Our dog was immediately put on IV antibiotics, her fever was stabilized and the next day, she had a second surgery, a double mastectomy, and one of the two removed was the one the cyst was removed from. When I contacted Veterinary Emergency of Canton I asked to speak to the manager saying that I wanted an explanation as to why the mastitis diagnosis was missed. That I felt that the $2200 surgery was not necessary and that we should have been sent directly to a hospital that could completely treat our dog. When the Practice Manager, Michelle, called me back she had nothing but a bad attitude, she wouldn't let me speak, continued to talk over to me and then hung up on me. I called back and was told that if I continued to "yell" which I hadn't even raised my voice, she would hang up again, AND THEN SHE PROCEEDED ONCE AGAIN TO NOT LET ME SPEAK and hung up on me again. I called back to ask who owned the practice and was told the were owned by "Rare Breed out of Maine" I asked for the phone number, was transferred back to Michelle who let the call go to voicemail. I called the office a fourth time and explained to the receptionist that Michelle would not answer the phone and I just needed the number, I was transferred back to Michelle who was very hostel and said that she didn't want me to harass the practice any further and if I wanted the number to their owners I could look it up on line and that they would not put up with my crap either. I would never recommend this practice to anyone. I would not trust my pets with them. And they do not have the excuse of "It was the holidays and were short staffed" as any excuse for putting my dog through a surgery that they were not prepared to treat fully. Beware... they almost killed my dog by missing mastitis in a teat that they removed a cyst from. And the practice manager is the most unprofessional person I have had the displeasure to have to deal with. Not that "deal with" suits this situation, because she only talked over me and never listened... not to a word. read more

We brought our 6 year old "Augie" here for surgery after getting inconclusive X-ray results at our primary doctor but had a feeling she had an intestinal blockage because of heavy vomiting the day before. Up until that point, and even 2 hours before being admitted to VEC, she was in all respects acting normal. Huge energy, no fever and healthy bowel movements. She had a blockage as a puppy, it was surgically removed, and she recovered fully after a night of being monitored . This surgery was completely different. From the minute we dropped her off with a "very high fever" (false) to post surgery of a 90% chance the resection will hold , but only 65% she will survive? This was the same number the doctor gave us BEFORE the surgery. Yet still the same prognosis AFTER? And according to the doctor , "the surgery went well, we rocked it". We were feed story after story. Every doctor and nurse in that place had their own version of events, no pictures, no proof, just words. Actually I'm assuming the surgery actual was a success. The first morning at 9am after her 5:30 surgery the night before, she looked herself , happy, ate out of our hand. But what we did notice shocked us. She had a surgical feeding tube in her throat, a surgical drain bag in her abdomen. My heart sunk. She was being pumped full of fluids, meds, and why? This was the same surgery she already survived and the doctor said he tested the intestines 2 times for leaks with a dyed fluid and she passed . My first thought is this is too much stress for everything, her immune system, her delicate new resection. Over the next 3 nights they pumped her so full of fluids she looked huge but it was our second visit where we knew Her surgery failed. Her drain bag was very full, darker red. Her small intestine was no longer connected. If we knew, they knew. The surgery failed. I demanded she come home with us against the doctors wishes. We knew she was dying and only because they were filling up her body cavity with heavy antibiotics, and draining her, the illusion she was getting good care was a priority for them. They kept pretending she had a chance. Our 3rd visit , the day of her release to us, the doctor had us sign a form saying release was against his wishes, comeback later so they could prepare her and us for home care. During this time they even did a 6 hour protein transfusion. For what? It's like their goal was to keep her alive for 3-5 days, not to save her life. Their goal was to justify all these bells and whistles which added up to over $8000. Yet as if he's taking a huge financial hit, the doctor tells us "if we were in West Hartford, that is 40% of what our bill would be. Then he tells us of his own near death in surgery, how he wanted to go home and his fathers bad hospital experience in an attempt to somehow relate to our experience with VEC or justify their handling of medical procedures. Now our beloved dog was coming home for her last night. The nurse who prepared us tells us as we leave the dog was very sick, her stomach was very diseased, asked if she was at surgery, "yes" she replied. Asked if our dog was still draining since they pulled the tube the nurse replied "no, not much at all". I don't know if they were covering for a botched surgery or over aggressive post operative care, all we knew is she was happy and healthy with normal bowel movements the Thursday before, and now we had less then 24 hours with her. The next morning as she laid in our arms , waiting for the doctor to inject her for the last time, they made sure they got another $190 out of us for her euthanasia fee. As I watched him slowly and confidently inject syringe after syringe , one last thing happened. Confident he killed her, he seemed to take a very long time listening for her heart beat to go away . He finally said after what seemed a minute or two, "I might still hear a faint beat, not sure", she didn't want to leave us. While this might not be true for all care this hospital provides, I strongly recommend finding another facility, one that doesn't operate like a corporately owned facility , for any internal blockages requiring surgery and post operative care. read more

My experience started out well here. The staff and nurses were helpful,kind, and compassionate. In an emergency situation that's what a pet owner needs. After the initial treatment it was requested that I come back daily for a check up and bandage change for 14 days. On day 3 I call to insure I can come down and was told by multiple people to show at a certain time and they would get us taken care of. After waiting for over a hour I suggested maybe I can have our regular vet handle it from here as I cant wait for hours on end everyday for 14 days. I understand they don't take appointments and that since we are outpatient at this time I would just have to wait until they could get to us, or I could just leave my pet if I can't wait. That was suggested multiple times by multiple staff members. I was greeted by a nurse who I have not dealt with yet and was greeted with attitude, a lack of compassion, she was accusatory of me just showing up and not calling and then questioned me as if I was lying when she asked who I talked to. This didn't sit well with me and immediately she got a word. Next day I have to leave my dog as I couldn't sit for hours until they could get to us. At pick up I questioned a holding fee and was given push back by a different nurse, again no compassion, no reasoning. I complained at this point to the front desk. A manager calls me later and gives me push back, suggesting it was my fault her staff was not compassionate as I was upset in their office on the phone. They had no idea who I was talking to or how the other end of that phone conversation was going. I was upset in their office because my dog barely survived as I was expressing that over the phone and quickly became upset because of how her nurse spoke to me. She accused me of not wanting to pay any of the bills as her staff said I didn't want to. I immediately shut that down and made it clear whoever told her that lied. I never once questioned any of the fees I had already paid which was over 2k. I questioned one holding fee as there was never a mention of this fee and it was encouraged by the staff multiple times to just leave my dog until they could get to her. In the end the conversation was ok with the manager as her tone immediately changed once she heard I never once questioned all the fees and have paid for everything. Needless to say This place holds a few bad apples. And the few bad apples ruin the positive feelings. It makes you feel they aren't giving your pet the best care, it makes you feel you need to immediately get your pet out of their care. The few bad apples ruin it for the remaining staff who do actually try and care. I hope others don't have the same experience I did. read more

Her examination, blood work ,xrays and treatment options were completely explained to me. My stepmom and I took our cat Zoro to this center because Zoro was losing weight (about 3 lbs in the last month) with increased urination and thirst. Her appetite has remained the same. She does not interact with other animals as she is an indoor cat. Despite her being a few lbs overweight, she was mobile and fairly healthy. We came here only because The VCA ER in west Hartford had an 8 hour weight time. This place took her right away. This is the biggest mistake we could have made. After 3 hours, they gave us a 1000$ bill for all the lab work and antibiotics for urinary tract infection. They diagnosed her with diabetes. She's 13 so this is expected with her being overweight and old age. Her random blood sugar at the visit was in the 400s. I asked the doctor if she would be given insulin. She said no and that we had to get Zoro to PCP to be prescribed insulin. Nothing else was offered to me so she was coming home with out of control diabetes. I spoke to a tech at west Hartford VCA if this is their protocol. They said no that usually the ER would prescribe insulin to control the diabetes until your pet is able to see a primary care. I called this place to speak to a manager about this issue to ask why this situation was not handled properly. At first she said they did not have insulin in the facility. Then I asked if that is the case "why wasn't we given a prescription if that is the case?" She then changed her tune and said "'Ma'am you haven't taken your cat to see a vet on a long time" and I said "what does that have to do with her being diabetic and you guys not treating her properly". Many pet owners do not bring their animal to routine visits like humans. That would be very cost ineffective. We take our pets in when there is a PROBLEM. So this woman was essentially victim shaming instead of taking ownership of their mistake. She also told me according to their records, the doctor offered for Zoro to stay overnight to be monitored. Interesting, for what? She just told me they did not have insulin in the facility. And that was NEVER offered to me. She also asked me if I knew anything about animals? I told her I am a NURSE. And diabetics is treated the same way for BOTH animals and humans by blood sugar monitoring and insulin administration. Not only is she rude, condescending, dismissive, while not taking accountability.. they are completely INCOMPETENT. I have called this location several times for different pets and each time they tell me they can't see them. I don't understand. Isn't that the definition of emergency vet? Being able to see an animal in the event of an emergency? Perhaps they should just call themselves a vet. read more

This place is wonderful! The care is loving, compassionate, and expert. I had to bring my tiny Pomeranian Kira in because she was in much pain. She was admitted and spent that night, the next day and the following night there- it took some time to figure out what was wrong. By the next morning she had bounced back 100% because of a successful treatment. They explained everything to me and answered questions. I could come and be with Kira for long visits. We recently took our cat who was dying of kidney disease and appearing to be close to death, to VEC to try to decide whether to euthanize her or let her pass naturally. After they examined her, they told us she had stopped breathing and that she would probably be dead in the next couple of minutes or so. They suggested we euthanize her to prevent muscle jerking and agonal breaths. It did neither. Shortly after they administered the medication, her agonal breathing continued. Shortly after that, her upper body and head jolted up. It wasn't until after that, when they gave her additional medication, that she finally stopped moving. The euthanasia did nothing to prevent any of this from happening as they said it would, and it still took her a few minutes to die. The least we deserved was an honest answer upfront so we could have been prepared no matter which way we decided to go. Do not recommend this practice. read more

I shouldn't be this excited about a vet clinic. Anyway, this is a few months late, but I've been busy.. I would love to give a HUGE thank you to the lady that was working at night when my cat passed. I don't remember your name, but you were so kind, very warm, and I really do appreciate it. Very sad to lose a family member like that, and an unpleasant experience was easier to get through when the staff is that friendly. And the fact that they took the time to send me a sympathy card. I was really really touched. I haven't had to go there for anything medically, my last 2 cats are fairly healthy so hopefully I never will. But I will be putting my trust in these vets for all my future needs. read more

I brought our 3 yr old pup in on a Saturday night thinking he had swallowed something and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. They were busy for a while with a dog that needed attention more but they never forgot about us and apologized frequently for the wait. They were fast, professional and more reasonably priced than I expected. The woman at the desk was just great and when you're at an emergency vet late at night it helps to have people who are good at their jobs. I would recommend this clinic to anybody without giving it a second thought. read more

My mini Schnauzer decided to break into a lunch bag at our house, and devoured all but two sticks of an 18-pack of sugarless gum. After a quick web search, I found out that the sweetener in this brand, xylitol, can be very toxic to dogs, particularly little breeds After a frantic call, I found out my vet was closed for the weekend, but they referred me to the Veterinary Emergency Center in Canton. I called ahead, grabbed up Zeus, and headed there as quick as I could. When I arrived, despite the fact that the place was jammed with cats and dogs of every sort of malady, the receptionist immediately took him into one of the back rooms where they began treating him. I was very impressed with their triage and sense of urgency. Long story short, they were able to clear his stomach of the offending product, but to make sure he didn't receive a toxic dose, they kept him overnight for observation and more testing. He came through with flying colors, we are now doubly careful to make sure nothign ingestible is within his reach, and my hat goes off to the doctors and receptionist at the Veterinary Emergency Center, for their profesionalism, and their pet-side manner. I wasn't very impressed, my dog snapped his back and they gave him pain meds and left me sitting with him on the cold hard floor for almost 2 hours. It was very quiet in there and the girl was visiting with a friend while my dog sat crying on the floor. There wasn't much care or feeling from anyone! They gave us bad advice and we should have reacted quicker, luckily we got him to Pieper Memorial who took him in right away. They were very nice but void of feeling and just didn't seem up to the task of handling emergencies especially since no one was actually doing anything. If they were busy I could understand but in my opinion sitting that long on a cold hard floor with an injured crying dog just isn't right. We will make the trip right up to a better place next time. read more

My dog had to have emergency surgery over a life-threatening infection. The staff at the Veterinary Emergency Center were absolutely fantastic from the beginning of the process to the end with constant communication and explanations of everything that was going on. I was a nervous wreck and Dr. Leshem reassured us that the surgery would be performed and everything would go well. The check out process was very easy and the nurse explained everything to us about aftercare. Truly a professional staff and very comfortable talking to them about my pup. If you are in need of emergency medical care for your pet, I highly recommend VEC. read more

This place is horrible. I called and let this facility know I was on the way and I'd be arriving in approx. one hr. We arrive and have to be buzzed it which was kind of weird but I guess I get it being 24 hrs. In the waiting area reminded me of a shady retirement home... there were NO lights on. We then waited 45 minutes in an empty waiting area while we listened to all the techs cackle loudly in the back while my dog is in serious need of help. I eventually told the receptionist that I was going to go 10 min down the rd to the clinic in Avon and got a rash of attitude from her. I understand it's an emergency facility but do they only take one emergency at a time? I arrived at the emergency hospital in Avon, no lock on door, lights were on, smelled so clean, and staff was overwhelmingly friendly. We were immediately brought into a treatment room and the level of professionalism was remarkable. We then learned how much of Canton's business ends up in Avon for similar experiences. They also do everything in their power to remove all negative reviews, so if you're here trying to make a decision regarding your pet's well-being being in the hands of these people, look at reviews not recommended all the way at the bottom. read more

My dog Molly was hit by a car a few weeks ago :( -- The entire staff including Dr. Leshem (board certified animal surgeon) and veterinarian Ann Falbowski were fabulous. They took great care of my girl, called me at 10 p.m. the first night to let me know how Molly was doing. Further, if I wanted to come visit her any time of the day or night 24/7 I was allowed to do so. They treat each animal as if it were their own child. I highly recommend Veterinary Emergency Center. read more
