After realizing that downtown is basically a ghost town on Monday evenings, my friends and I had to scramble for a backup dinner plan. Enter Lev Kitchen, our unexpected savior. I'll be honest -- I wasn't initially thrilled about it, but as fate (and hunger) would have it, LK proved me wrong. * Za'atar Chicken Malawach ($14) The guy at the counter recommended this, and I have to hand it to him -- he was absolutely right. This thing slapped. The chicken was tender, the flatbread was buttery, and every bite was the perfect mix of flaky, juicy, and flavorful. A true underdog win. 10/10, would trust the counter guy's recommendations again. * Cardamom Latte I was excited about this one, but unfortunately, it didn't quite do it for me. The cardamom flavor was there, but the tiny bits at the bottom threw me off. I don't know if that's part of the experience, but I prefer my lattes without sediment. 3/5. * Cardamom Cookie w/ Jam A good cookie, but I wanted more cardamom. Like, turn up the spice, make me feel something. The jam was nice, though. 2/5 Lev Kitchen came through when we needed it most, and while not everything was a hit, that Za'atar Chicken Malawach alone has earned this place a spot on my "would return" list. Moral of the story: trust the counter guy.

Fast food-ish ambiance, you order up at the counter and they bring it to you. The star here is malawach, the bread used for the sandwiches/wraps. Its soft and flaky. I got a veggie one, mamalawech, that comes with lots of veggies, dressing and cheese (I added an egg). I also ordered their fries but thats definitely a dish to share, its a whole tray of seasoned fries. Everything was fresh and tasty. I'll be coming back to try other dishes when I'm in town.

I am absolutely blown away by this chicken wrap. The bread is like a pita but layered like a croissant. I'm in love. The chicken is freshly grilled and has a nice char and smoky quality. Could not recommend more.

I had the fried mushroom malawach and OMG it's THE BEST. (No cheese to be vegan.) My meat eater boyfriend loved it and our local friend orders it all the time. I will 100% order this again when I'm in the area. The crunch of the mushroom pairs perfectly with the soft, but crispy malawach wrap and is balanced with the creamy slaw. I will be dreaming about this wrap... I was satisfied with the amount of food I got for the price. There are dining areas in the bottom and top level. There are games available to play and I enjoyed the trivia with my friends.

Nov, 2024. Ithaca, NY. Our adult daughter was attending a small meeting in Ithaca, and the local organizers arranged catering from Lev Kitchen. Our daughter raved about the food, so we just had to check it out. The restaurant was convenient to our hotel in the Ithaca Commons. First, a little background about the restaurant (from their website). Lev Kitchen is a casual restaurant inspired by a flatbread called Malawach and the amalgamation of cuisines and cultures from the Levant. You ask .. what is a Malawach and where is the Levant? Malawach is a crispy, flaky flatbread that originated in Spain amongst the Jewish community. After being forced out of Spain in the 13th-14th century, Jews brought the bread to Yemen where it further developed before being brought to Israel by Yemeni Jews in the 1950s. The Levant is a historical geographical term referring to a large area in the Eastern Mediterranean including southern Turkey, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus, and Iraq. The restaurant also prides itself as being a sustainable restaurant, with science-based menu design and a commitment to finding the best ingredients and purchasing them directly from the source, preferably locally. We were intrigued. We ordered, and shared, two Malawach wraps, both of which were excellent. The Halloumi Malawach ($12.50) featured seared halloumi cheese, blueberry jam, spicy greens, and Marcona almonds, while the Sweet and Spicy Malawach ($14.25) had a generous portion of Za'atar*-roasted chicken, blueberry jam, red Schug*, walnuts, scallions, and greens mix. [*Za'atar (blend of wild thyme, sesame seeds, and sumac). *Red Schug (smoky, earthy, warm spice hot sauce)]. The restaurant also offers salads, sides, soups, and sweets -- for our next visit! Service was fine. We ordered at the counter for take out. We were called by name when our names were called. The restaurant itself was small and pleasant. Others have reported that there's also outside and upstairs seating but we didn't notice either.

This is a relatively new spot that opened right at the heart of the Ithaca Commons. The first time I came here I ordered their Halva. It was disappointing but while I was waiting for it I noticed that every sandwich they made was made fresh on the spot. Next time I came I ordered two malawach, the mushroom one and the chicken one. The bread is like a pliable, flaky, deliciously savoury roti. The mushroom one had a truffle flavour. I love mushrooms so I liked it a lot, but when I bit into the chicken one I was seriously blown away. Will return again to try the halloumi one and their apps. While they're a more casual eatery, since they make their food on the spot, expect to wait 20+ minutes for your food.

My husband and I shared: - Za'atar Chicken Malawach - Haloumi Malawach - Mushroom Schnitzel The Haloumi Malawach was definitely my favorite. The cheese was delicious and paired perfectly with the sweet spread. I wouldn't get the mushrooms again. I love mushrooms but they didn't really have any flavor. There were several other menu items I wanted to try so I'd gladly come back.

We were excited to finally give it a try, and the food absolutely lived up to the hype. This was easily the best Middle Eastern food we've had in Central New York. We started with the hummus appetizer, which was fresh, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the delicious house-made and warm pita. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro, and my wife had the beef kebabs. Both meals were outstanding, and we'll definitely be back for the food. Unfortunately, what keeps me from leaving a five-star review was the service we received from our server, Megan. I'm not sure whether it was because we arrived about an hour before closing or if she was simply having an off night, but from the beginning, the service felt rushed and inattentive, and it never improved. Just a couple of minutes after we were seated, she asked if we were ready to order. When we said we were still looking over the menu, she simply replied, "Okay," and walked away without asking if we had any questions or explaining the menu. My wife had to stop her as she was walking away to ask what drinks were available. A few minutes later, when she returned to take our order, she took our appetizer order and my wife's entrée order while looking around the dining room, said "thank you," and immediately started walking away without taking my order. I had to stop her so I could order my meal. During our meal, while I had my gyro in hand and was about to take another bite, I noticed her standing beside our table preparing the payment terminal. My wife looked at her, the server said "sorry" and then set down the payment terminal on the neighboring table instead. Once we were finished, she handed us the payment terminal and then asked whether we'd like dessert or coffee, after already presenting the check, which felt a bit odd. After I paid, I was in the middle of selecting how I wanted my receipt when she took the payment terminal away before I could finish, leaving me unable to receive an itemized receipt for our meal. The food was exceptional, and we'll absolutely be back because the kitchen deserves every bit of the praise it receives. That said, we'll be requesting a different server next time. The service we experienced tonight was disappointing and didn't match the quality of the food. On a positive note, there was another server working this evening who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I didn't catch her name, but she left a much better impression and reflected the kind of hospitality we were hoping to experience.

We noticed a sign for the Marrakech Pizzeria and Mediterranean Restaurant, and saw patrons going in so we knew it was open. (We noticed signs for Casablanca Pizzeria on the way out; it's the same place). Upon entering, we saw that they offer pizza by the slice, as well as a good assortment of whole pizzas, calzones, cheesesteaks, gyros, and more. Given that their cheesesteak subs were 12", we decided to split a Philly Cheesesteak, which came with fries for $10.99 (if I remember correctly). Food (3.5/5). The cheesesteak featured the steak, onions, green peppers, mushrooms (?), American cheese, and mayonnaise on a hoagie roll. The roll was amazing, tasting fresh and nicely grilled. However, given how large it was, the roll overwhelmed the meat and vegetable fillings. We particularly would've liked for the sub to have more vegetables. The French fries were okay. They arrived hot, with a sufficient but not large quantity and with a lot of small pieces. Overall, we felt that the meal was a good value, especially if you consider that we split the meal and had enough to eat. Service (4/5). We only saw two workers who alternated between taking orders, manning the grills, and bringing the food to the counter for pickup. Our order was a bit slow to come out but we could only blame ourselves because we allowed two sets of patrons to pass us in line as we reviewed the menu. Staff were efficient and neither friendly nor unfriendly. They got the job done. Ambiance. (2/5). This isn't a date night kind of place. There are functional booths, but no real decor. The fountain drink machine wasn't working but you could order canned sodas at the counter. We were able to access water from the aforementioned broken machine. Overall, a good experience for a fast meal. I forgot to take photos. Sorry!

We've been jonesing for a good shawarma for ages, so we went with beef shawarma over rice, and lamb chops over rice. We threw in some beef sambusas and eggplant salad. The only complaint we had was the wait time. We showed up when they told us to, but ended up waiting about 25 minutes in store for the food. The staff were really friendly, and had we not ordered to go, it would have been a comfortable place to dine in. The lamb meat was tender and delicious. Not a ton of seasoning, but probably because it didn't need it. I'm seeing more and more places doing red and white sauce like the Halal Guys in NYC, and I'm all about it. The red sauce is bold and spicy, the white sauce is cool and refreshing, like Greek yogurt. They go amazing together, and I'd eat them on anything. It included two heavily seasoned pieces of pita. I'm guessing they were seasoned specifically for this meal, because the fresh mint garnish added a huge layer to the lamb meat. If you order this, I recommend asking for a ton of extra pitas seasoned just like that, even if you have to pay more. The shawarma is one of our favorites. They're not stingy with the sauce, and there's a good mix of veggies and lettuce. Extra credit for Lebanese pickles, they went a long way. The beef was a little chewy, but packed a punch. It's coated in a thick brown sauce that tastes similar to A1, but the meat itself is packed with different tastes - most notably nutmeg. I'm guessing they season it with garam masala. We definitely would have ordered some pitas if we knew it didn't include them. The sambusas were packed full of ground beef. The texture was pretty tough, but once you get past the corners they're so packed it doesn't matter. It seemed to be mostly just ground beef with little or no seasoning, but it came with a pretty flavorful dip. Not sure if it has a name, but it's Greek yogurt whipped into a frothy mixture and mixed with mint. It had a super light and airy texture that didn't match our expectations for a yogurt based dip. If you leave it for too long, it'll fall back down into an unpleasantly thin liquid like whipped cream. Texture aside though, the taste is immaculate and turned a bland sambusa into a full spectrum of flavor. Finally, we have the eggplant salad. This was our first time trying it, so I have nothing to compare it with. We tried to Google it to get a feel for what we were ordering, and the images were all over the map. I'm not sure if there's a standard or if it's a free for all. What we got was a very creamy mix of eggplant, roasted red peppers and onions. I'm guessing a lot of the creaminess is tahini, which gives it a toasted/smokey taste. It was unlike anything we've ever had before, and we're absolutely hooked. I'll definitely make sure I have pitas for it next time, it's pretty intense eating something this creamy by itself. This has been one of our favorite take out meals in a while. I hope these guys are here to stay.
