So, I got the chocolate banana bread like I normally do and it was devine as per usual. I want to preface my review by saying I expect for things to be a little different because this is New York, there's a bigger audience and rush. My only gripe is that my hometown levain cuts the slices bigger and that makes me feel like I wasted money at this location. Alas, I also tried a cookie for the first time and while good, I will stick to my banana bread. The staff was patient despite the rush. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were a few different options that piqued my interest but it was so crowded, I went with something reliable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This is my first time coming to New York City, and I can see why there's a hype around Levain bakery. New York has some really great eats and I will say this bakery was one of my favorite bites during my trip. You can't go wrong with any of their cookies. I've been to a lot of bakeries as I have a sweet tooth. I really loved their cookies, business model and friendly customer service. They have several locations in New York and I found one in my visit to Williamsburg, Brooklyn today. Our server was really nice, explained all their cookies, gave some great recommendations and she was on the money. Their story is of two friends back in the 1990's who started baking bread for local restaurants from their bakery on West 74 street in Manhattan. The word "Levain" in French is leavened bread. They were also tri-athletes on the side, they made the chocolate chip walnut cookies to keep their energy up. They made a sample batch and I guess their customers loved them. The rest is history. They can ship anywhere, donate any unsold goods to local charities at the end of each day. They use fresh ingredients, the cookies weigh almost a half pound. They have many other baked goods, have drinks and it's a nice store to take a break at. We had the walnut chocolate chip cookie, the chocolate peanut butter cookie and the rocky road cookie. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was very clean, easy checkout and no waiting time when I was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I highly recommend them and understand the hype.

9/10 experience. The customer service is great! The workers look like they genuinely want to be there and are accommodating. We went in on a crazy busy Friday night and the line went through the door, so we had to wait outside but only for about 5 minutes. The wait was about 10 minutes long altogether, then we had to wait for the cookies themselves as they were baking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance inside the store itself is cute. I love the trimmings on the walls and ceiling, the light fixtures, the collage of pictures on the wall, color scheme, and cute balloon decorations!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The only complaint I have is that the cookies were not fully baked (or at least they seemed to not be baked). I don't plan on defaming this establishment, but l've had Levain cookies plenty of times before and they seemed to be thoroughly cooked. I understand it was super busy tonight, but the outer parts of the cookies were fine while the center was still quite soft. It almost tasted like straight batter. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip here and will be returning! The prices seem very fair, we only ended up paying $23 for a dark chocolate cookie, chocolate chip cookie, lemon cookie and a whole wheat bread which was huge!

Delicious cookies. The cookies here are thick and cakey. My wife ordered a chocolate chip walnut cookie to share. I had to eaten cookies from Levain before, but never fresh, but that didn't compare to eating one fresh from the bakery all nice and warm and still gooey in the middle. I would definitely come back for more! They are big cookies so one was more than enough for use to share.

Cookies were really good. They were definitely huge, as advertised. They were kind of muffin-esque in my opinion. Very good still, but not necessarily the best cookie ever ever had. Definitely top 5 though! Wasn't disappointed and will try again. The atmosphere was quaint and the server was friendly. They specialize in more than cookies, but I can't really imagine trekking all the way to this location and not getting at least one. We got two!

I stopped in here yesterday afternoon and got an oat milk latte and caramel coconut chocolate chip cookie. I wasn't sure which cookie to get and the woman behind the counter was helpful giving her recommendations. The latte was good and the cookie was great. After all this hype I have heard, I finally got the chance to try Levain bakery! Thankfully we stumbled upon it while in Brooklyn so it was perfect place to take a pit stop while walking around. It was not busy at all so we were able to be helped immediately! I got the dark chocolate chip cookie and my friend got the 2 chip chocolate chip cookie. Both cookies were soft and delicious. The dark chocolate chip cookie was rich and moist and the perfect amount of chocolate and just unbelievable. The 2 chip was your classic and it was just perfect. You honestly cannot go wrong with the cookies on this menu. I wish we had been hungrier so we could have tried more because I'm sure they would be just as great. Had to try this spot for their cookies and got the regular chocolate chip. I don't think I got a fresh one because it wasn't as gooey inside but still good nonetheless. These cookies are massive and very filling, which is why they're $6 which is a little pricey. But of course this is the spot to treat yourself to satisfy the sugar cravings. Definitely a solid 5 stars! I've been told about these cookies for over 10 years now but never tried it. A stop at the Apple Store around the corner and a walk past the store led to me to purchase one chocolate chip walnut cookie. It was gooey and sweet and warm. But soooo big I had to eat it in to sitting with a glass of milk each time. It was well worth the hefty 5 dollars. read more

Terrible. I ordered chocolate chip cookies, a blueberry muffin, and a cinnamon brioche. Everything was DRY as a bone and flavorless. The cookies are scones, not cookies. The brioche was hard instead of soft. And the muffin was so hard it could be used as a weapon. Was excited to try this place but I now realize that's it's very overrated. I can't believe it has all these good reviews. I feel as if I basically just threw money out the window. read more

This place is 10/10! I was wondering if it was just hype since so many people go there and $6 for 1 cookie sounds like a lot if you ask me. There were a lot of people in line when I went and the staff were really nice. The ambiance of the Williamsburg location seems more like a grab and go vs somewhere I would want to hang out and eat. They did have chair there though so technically you could. I wanted to go here because I needed to find something that had both regular items as well as gluten free dairy free. After eating the cookies I understand why they are $6. First of all they are huge and heavy like holding one feels like you are holding a boulder. Despite how dense the cookie is it was flavorful and amazing!! I seriously cannot wait to go back. read more

Levain's been my favorite cookie since the first bite from their original shop off Broadway many moons ago. Since they've started to branch out, all the new locations look like carbon copies, and look visually welcoming and appealing. There is also more room to line up inside the shop instead of out the door like the original. Now I've had plenty of cookies over the years, from many in New York City that claim they are the best, but for my money, there is no other, Levain is still #1. In fact, just about the only competition for Levain, is other Levain locations. I still feel the original location makes the best cookies, they just look more well crisper with well defined edges, maybe a little heftier as well, even though that probably isn't true. When I can't to OG however, Williamsburg will have to suffice, or try to anyway. read more

These cookies are the bomb. They're HUGE! I received a lovely gift box recently of beautifully packaged, giant chocolate chip cookies. These have walnuts in them - which I don't usually care for - but they are a perfect ratio for these excessively decadent cookies. Prepare yourself-these are really rich. I can only do a half at a time. I've been keeping them frozen and they heat up perfectly for a few minutes in the toaster oven. read more

Had this place for a while in my bucket list but whenever I'm in the city I always used to find a huge line of waiting customers which always discouraged me from getting inside. Well luckily this location isn't crowded and the service is pretty quick whereas the vibe is pretty chilled. The order was quick. I went for their original chocolate chip walnut cookie, it was served warm and fresh which made me understand why this place is so highly recommended by people. The taste was really great whereas the chocolate chip was melting in my mouth, I felt the amount of butter in the cookie was a bit high as it felt a little greasy but overall I was satisfied! read more

Farmacy aims to capture the nostalgia of an old fashioned soda shop and ice cream parlor. Immediately upon walking in we were greeted by aesthetics - the tile, fixtures, and decor totally give off that vibe. There are a few tables to sit as well as a large bar area with stools; I also noticed a few tables set up outside as well. The traffic flow is set up so that you order first and then have it served to you after sitting. Browsing the menu, I noticed they have a selection of ice cream scoops, shakes, egg creams, specialty sodas, hot chocolates, and a large variety of sundae creations. Since we were there for ice cream, we decided to split a sundae -specifically the Sir Twix-a-Lot. This was chunks for shortcake tossed in caramel and topped with vanilla ice cream that was coated in a chocolate shell. Overall I thought the sundae was solid - but the combinations of textures weren't my favorite to be honest, mostly with how the shortcake played with the ice cream. It wasn't bad though - the flavors definitely gave the Twix aesthetic. My only other issue with the dish was that because chocolate shell was used, any residue at the bottom was hard so you have to chisel it if you want to savor any last spoonfuls; I guess that comes with the territory. Service was good - everyone was friendly. It wasn't too busy when we were there so we had our selection of seats and our ice cream was ready pretty quickly. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried Brooklyn Farmacy out - they have a large selection so I would definitely return when I'm in the area again.

I am so grateful to find out @levainbakery is in more locations, especially in Williamsburg. Ooey gooey at the center, crispy on the outside is not a gimmick, is the real deal. It is hard to just buy one cookie when you are there. Once you buy the cookie(s) head home. Find a movie to watch or you can read a great book or even play some good music ... but play it loudly while taking every bite. Look, this cookie deserves special treatment. Yes, people, you know those sexy pajamas you have stored on the bottom drawer? You need to wear those for these cookies. Remember I mentioned to play the music loud... (go ahead and put the volume up).. If you don't, you say ohhhhh... ahhhhh and all these awkward noises from just eating a chocolate chip cookie from Levain. This cookies can cause awkward outbursts. Your partner will bust in the room saying, "what the hell is going on"... Show your partner the cookie and your partner will understand. You can avoid this by putting the volume up before the first bite. LOL Anyway if you are a cookie fan, I strongly recommend giving them a try. You will not regret it one bit.
