We had dinner at the Lewiston Lodge as an annual stop. We were greeted on walking in and promptly seated at a table with a terrific view of East Twin Lake. Our server perfectly timed coming to our table to review menu options and take our drink orders. My wife had a Turkey club panini. The paninis here are huge! And delicious. I had a perfectly seasoned grilled ribeye steak with redskin garlic potatoes, a medley of seasoned mixed vegetables of yellow and Orange carrots, green beans, and red peppers, and a house garden salad. Our meals were well prepared and delicious. Service was exceptional; Brett, our server, was on top of everything.

First off the chicken was AMAZING!!!! I would get this every time. The sauce was so good and the veggies cooked to perfection. The chicken was tender and moist. The salad and bread were good. The grinder my teenager didn't like. Said it was dry and too crusty and not enough toppings it was just too bread heavy. The Stromboli was decent.

The service at Lewiston Lodge was fantastic, our waitress was inviting and positive and did a good job checking in with us. The lodge was nice, with a great view of the water which would've probably been even better if it were the warm months. The Lodge Special pizza was good, the toppings were good and fresh although I wish the crust was a little more crisper. Still was a good pizza and wouldn't complain! The chicken tenders had a great breading and passed as a solid shareable. Overall, solid spot for a moderate lunch. Thank you!

Great meal and a beautiful view of the lake. I will definitely be back again to this tucked away gem.

Lewiston Lodge is... unique... to say the least. We are in Grayling annually for a week in the woods, and a friend suggested we check out the Lodge. While we are glad we now know it exists, we wish we would have taken our friend's suggestion on ordering some of the obvious hits like... pizza. Instead, we went off the obvious map. My wife ordered the "Oriental" chicken salad which was just plain bad. The ingredients were fine, but whoever made it hasn't actually tried "Oriental" food before. The entree I ordered came with a salad, and I asked for the maple vinaigrette dressing. (When In Rome right?) The dressing was basically a pancake batter thick, insanely sweet dressing. Super overwhelming and not a great way to start out the meal. I was able to down like 3 bites. I also regrettably ordered the "Mushroom Goat Cheese Chicken" which was without a doubt one of the worst dishes I have ever tried to consume in my entire 40 years on this earth. I am not overreacting when I say it was insanely bad. From seasoning (or lack thereof) to the quality of ingredients and level of doneness... it was horrible. I do not in my adult life remember a dish that more resembled hell than this one. I was able to consume 3 bites best, including the ridiculously bad sides, and decided to call it a day. All of that said, we will come back and try things like their burgers and pizza. Because when you are in the middle of fucking nowhere, the last thing you should be trying is "Oriental" salad and "Mushroom Goat Cheese Chicken." Our bad!

We had a group of 6, meaning we got to sample a lot of the menu from meatloaf, smothered chicken, parmesan crusted whitefish, fish fry, and the Sharon and when I say not a single dish disappointed! We also ordered a hot Chocolate cake (10/10 recommend if you want a decadent HOT chocolatey dessert) and peanut butter pie. The restaurant is small, and reservations are required so plan accordingly, but this is such a great place right on the ausable river. They also have several bird feeders and it was so peaceful to watch all the different birds as we sat and enjoyed a wonderful meal.

The vegan salad and pasta were vegan... We finished off with a few desserts and had a great time. The location is remote and beautiful but worth a 40 minute drive.

Can't beat the location. Right on a prime reach of the Au Sable where, with correct timing, you'll see trout gulping mayflies, whetting your appetite for a trip downstream. Fly shop staff is always helpful and patient with questions, and every year it seems like local tiers have tweaked the old favorite patterns and invented striking new ones to bring more fish to hand. Food isn't cheap, but it's never disappointing, and portions run large (can't make it through a full day of fishing on tea and toast, can you?). The menu offers both conventional and creative selections, something not always the case around Grayling. When my wife and I had dinner there on our latest stay, my flank steak was outstanding, and the housemade steak sauce dabbed on the side complimented it wonderfully. I've paid more for steaks that were not nearly as good. My wife enjoyed her cod, but really the hit of the night was the crispy duck wontons. Our server said they were a new item the kitchen was trying out and we said KEEP THEM! Our room certainly showed its years of use. There were some scuffs and scratches, though only to the degree that suggests "character," not shabbiness. It was spacious and certainly clean. A sliding door opens onto a patio along the river. The bathroom was clean and the shower had plenty of hot water, and good water pressure. There is not any air conditioning, which usually isn't a problem in northern Michigan, though our first night up there was sweltering, even with every window open and the fan on high. No fridge in the room, though the "board room" across the lot from the lodge has a large refrigerator and some limited cooking facilities that all guests have access to. Not to mention a fantastic library of fly fishing books. So, to sum up each component of the place: Fly shop: 5 stars Lodging: 4 stars Restaurant: 5 stars Overall atmosphere: 10 stars (I know, Yelp doesn't allow that, but they ought to in this case.) Average: 5 stars Gates is a classic Au Sable experience.

I don't think I saw a single person here throughout my entire hike, which was sad because it was a beautiful, winter day, early evening & the sun was still shining! If you like pines and old growth forests, well then...you clearly have to come here! It's so beautiful, so interesting, the views are endless and constantly changing, there's almost like too much to look at and appreciate and it kept me fully engaged throughout the entire hike. We were going to stay in a single villa but when we got to it (which seemed like a quarter mile walking from the parking lot), we were very disappointed. The fact that it was rustic was okay but we had inquired if there was a table where we could play cards in the evening and were told "yes". Well, the table was a small coffee table. The biggest problem was the bathroom shower which had a lot of mold. I attempted to call the front desk to report it but neither one of the two phones in the villa worked so I used my cell. I took a photo of the mold and requested that we be moved to the lodge. They did honor our request and the room was small but okay. When checking out the person at the front desk said that they checked out the bathroom issue that I reported and tholught it was fine. I was furious because I had a photo to prove my point and didn't like the attitude. The restaurant has a breakfast buffet but we decided to order individually. The servers don't come to your table - you go to the bar and order and pay and then someone brings your order to you. Lunch and dinner which are mediocre are served by the staff. Honestly, they need to invest some money to make improvements in the accommodations. We loved the courses but won't be returning because there is no option to stay anywhere else in that area that is decent.
