We contacted several moving companies and selected Lexel Moving based upon their Yelp ratings, knowledgeable and helpful phone staff, and competitive pricing. Their communication was excellent prior to the move - confirming the move date, time, and logisitics. Our experiences with moving companies has been variable and negatively impacted by the "additional charges" after completion of the move. Lexel was very reasonable, honest, and fair about the final charges. Other pluses were the care and kindness of Grant and John, the movers. I was impressed by their conscientiousness - some flimsily attached furniture pieces became detached during the moving process. Whereas previous movers may have overlooked this, Grant and John were meticulous in retrieving these pieces and ensuring delivery at the other end. The only suggestion that I have is for clarification about when parking permits are needed. This was not a problem for us. The best move we've had yet - and we move too often. When we first got our quote, I thought something must be wrong: it was HALF the other quote we received. After seeing all of the other reviews online though, we decided to take the risk and go for it. I'm glad we did. Lexel movers were thoroughly communicative - from their online interface for the move to confirmations the week before, the day before, to letting us know even more exact timing the day of the move and the day of deliver - tremendously friendly, efficient, and protective of our belongings. We didn't "lose" one piece of furniture in the move, a feat for transporting an entire household across states. We moved from Quincy, MA to Charlotte,NC. Overall the service was excellent. I chose Lexel for the below reasons 1) Responsiveness and follow-ups 2) Price (Easily the lowest) 3) Offering (2 day delivery for out of state and your boxes arrive in the same truck it was picked up with the same crew) We requested a quote, they followed up immediately, came over the next day and offered a FLAT rate. Ross was excellent. The quote was very reasonable. I checked with few other movers and they were easily 50% lower on price compared to competition. The best part is Lexel offered a 2 day delivery for interstate. Few days before the actual move I requested if they could pick up my stuff a little earlier than scheduled. They said they will try their best and on the day of delivery (Friday) they came over two hours earlier than scheduled which was very much appreciated. It was a 5 man crew and they were out of the condo in about 1 hour. Impressive!! They were expected to arrive on a Sunday but to my surprise in a good way they called me Saturday night and said that they had arrived. They offered to unload the same night or wait there as per schedule for next morning. Saturday night worked well for me and they unloaded. Took them less than an hour. All my boxes including the fragile ones arrived in great condition. Overall the experience was flawless and will highly recommend their service if they continue to offer such a quality experience at that price. I hadn't planned on hiring movers but at the last minute, I decided I was going to need help. I entered a request for a quote online on a Monday to schedule for the upcoming Saturday. I received a call back within 30 minutes. Alex said that they could only do Friday by when I explained my situation, he arranged for his movers to come to Brookline after a big job they were doing to make sure I got my things moved on Saturday. The rate that he charged was quite a bargain! On moving day, there was constant communication as to where they were and what time to expect them. The movers were extremely quick and very friendly! I would most definitely recommend this company to anyone in the area and will be using them again in the future! read more

I hired Lexel moving to both pack my house up and move me locally. They did not actually give me the cheapest quote, but I thought their quote was more realistic about the time the move would take and therefore more accurate than they others I received. Ironic given how the move went. The gentlemen who packed me did an okay job. They were certainly fast and efficient. However, I imagine they must turn off the reason section of their brain in order to robotically go about their task. Example: I actually unpacked a dirty diaper wrapped in newspaper and carefully tucked away in a box!!! More importantly, I told them that the one thing they couldn't pack up was my son's basketball, and we agreed that it would be set aside in a certain area of the house that they wouldn't touch. When I brought my son home from daycare and he saw the house full of boxes, he was confused and uneasy. As I expected, the one thing he wanted to see was his basketball, but when I went to the corner to get it, it was gone along with everything else I'd put aside. I had to open 8 boxes that night to find the ball. The bigger issue came two days later when they were 9 HOURS LATE for my move. NINE. They had called several days before and asked if I would be willing to change my move time to 2pm instead of 8am for $50 off the price. Because I would have to arrange childcare in that case, I told them $50 wasn't worth it to me to change it. They said they couldn't do any better than that, so we agreed to keep the original time. At 9am the day of the move, I got a call saying they wouldn't be there until noon. I said that was unacceptable because I had to leave to pick up my son at 5pm at the latest. They said they would be done by 5. I was skeptical, and they said basically nothing. So I called a friend and asked him to pick up my son. I then drove the hour and half to my son's daycare and back to drop off a car seat so my friend could get him home. At 1:30pm, they called again to tell me that they would be to me in 45 mins. At this point, it was very clear that they were not going to finish before my son's bedtime, so I had to call my friends again and ask if he could spend the night. Keep in mind he had no pajamas, no toothbrush, no sippy cups sent with him for this impromptu sleep over. The movers actually showed up at 5pm. They finished just after midnight. They had the gall to start complaining about how much stuff I had around 9pm. One of them asked for a beer when they finished. I did and do try to remind myself that the actual men who moved me did not likely cause my move to be so awful. I'm sure that was someone making unethical and calculated decisions in an office somewhere. Clearly they had a conflict in their scheduling, and tried to buy a way out of it with $50. The thing that makes me the angriest is if they had just said, "We're sorry, but we've had a conflict and we need to change your move to 2pm", I would have been annoyed, but I would have been able to plan for it. My son would have had pajamas to sleep in that night. I would have known that he would not have been spending the first night in the new house and could have changed other plans I had to get him acclimated. The way they handled it showed no respect for their customers. Once they had made the choice to screw me over, no real attempt was made to try and make it up to me. I think the foreman said he was going to wave a $35 fee. When I reminded him that I was originally offered $50 for a 2pm move, he upped the discount to $50. This move was probably the worst experience I've ever had with a service provider of any kind. Strongly DO NOT recommend Lexel Moving. read more

Beyond great! These guys are top notch. I screwed up a lot of the details of my move as I live out of state. I had forgotten to do my part of the agreement with the moving company. At the last minute, on Easter weekend, these guys forgave me for screwing up and they were at the site on Easter Sunday at exactly @2PM, the time I was given by them to arrive. The move went perfect and they were gentlemen and very thoughtful and thorough. The price was excellent and the understanding and service were without comparison. My girlfriend and I have moved a few times on our own - rent a U-haul or Penske trucks at local storage facilities, made multiple trips in our own cars. So now we decided to hire local movers. We had two options: have Lexel pack and move or do all packing on our own and have Lexel move us. So we decided to save some money and packed all the boxes by ourselves. In the end Lexel turned out to be cheap movers with great quality service! Three movers arrived on time, did a walk through we showed everything that needed to be moved and they got to work right away. Moving truck was parked right in front of our house with the ramp going straight into the front door! All items were wrapped and protected - dressers, night stands and kitchen table. When it came to unloading, we again did a walk through to show what room has what. We were directing them to where we want things while movers were unloading the truck. In the end we were asked if anything needs to rearranged inside the new house. We received couple good advices how we should arrange the bed and dressers in our bedroom. Good point! There were multiple issues with the pods arrival (delays, etc) and Lexel was VERY accommodating and rescheduled with me as many times as it took. I'm a student in Boston and Lexel movers did my move last month. My move (1 bedroom apartment to a studio) from Boston to Brookline was pretty easy. The only issue was my huge couch which was hoisted through the window with no problem like they do it everyday! There was no packing involved since all my belongings were packed by the time my movers arrived. The move itself went fast and everything was moved carefully and safely. Highly recommend this moving company! They have cheap and flat rates,hard working and professional movers. I was offered a student discount. I think it depends on how much your total bill is - my discount was $30. Make sure you pack everything yourself and count your boxes - makes it faster and cheaper!!! read more

I needed a same day move of a bedroom set and other miscellaneous items. Lexel was one of the only local companies I talked to that provided a fair hourly rate without a minimum, so I booked with them. I was given a start time window of between 3-5:00. They called me at 5:00 to apologize but previous jobs had been delayed so they were going to be another hour. After another call to me, the truck (huge!) finally arrived at 7:30. While the delay normally might have been upsetting, I was OK with it since it was such a last minute job and I really needed the furniture out on that day. They ended up discounting the rate quite a bit, which I appreciated. The guys were very friendly and worked efficiently into the night. I would definitely use them again. read more

Last month I have moved five pieces of furniture and multiple boxes from Boston, MA down to Salisbury, MD with an extra stop in Washington, DC to drop off some crates at the assisted living. In Boston movers were expensive and Lexel came in reasonably priced. I know that it can be a bit challenging with an out of state move to get your stuff delivered on time but my furniture was picked up on time as scheduled and delivered within 3 days as agreed. I moved from Waltham, MA to South Boston in late January and I was very happy with Lexel. I was able to book the move just a couple of weeks in advance. Don't believe the good reviews you see for Lexel. It's what originally drew me in, but I was grossly overcharged for the service and had a terrible experience. First, the movers were over 2 hours late past the window they gave me for arrival. I had already reserved elevators for my move, and because of this I had to scramble last second to get another elevator. Secondly, the movers were EXTREMELY slow, and it was painfully obvious they were trying to milk the clock to charge extra. Between every trip, they would literally be slow-walking and checking their phones between the moving truck and the building. Once we got to my new building, the movers suddenly started moving much faster, I think because they decided they had milked the clock enough. I was quoted $400 to move my 1BR apartment less than 10 minutes away, and the final bill ended up being almost $800. I think the worst thing about this was the sheer amount of time wasted; just tell me that it's going to cost $800 and go about it at a normal pace instead of wasting the time of everyone involved. Overall, an extremely negative experience and I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

Update - I got a personal call from Russ who apologized for the company not following up on my request for estimate. They are having computer issues, and was very sincere in his apology. I have decided to give them a try. I moved this weekend, and the move went almost perfectly. They were extremely timely (estimate of arrival was between 8-10am, and they arrived at 7:50am). Only snag was the two movers weren't told prior that they would be providing packing services as well, even though I made that clear when I was getting the quote. That was a bit of a surprise for them, and they probably weren't happy. However, they didn't show it, and took it with stride. The move took longer than quoted, but that was because of the packing piece. If I didn't need their help with packing, they probably would have finished the job ahead of schedule. Also, I had a lot of large heavy furniture pieces, which I was concerned about just having the two guys. But they did great. Eugene took great care at ensuring my couch was put back together safely and accurately. V kept me entertained with conversation while we packed up my kitchen. So far, as I work through the unpacking process, nothing is damaged or broken, which can happen even with the utmost care. I am very happy. I will definitely consider using Lexel again for my next move. While they weren't the cheapest moving company I got quotes from, they were less expensive than most. They were very cost effective, and I didn't feel like I lost anything in quality. Great experience. Very straight forward billing, and no hidden fees. Thank you to Lexel Moving and Storage! We hired Lexel to move the furniture in our 3 bedroom condo in Brookline to Newton. We hired them despite having a higher estimate from them than other movers (all were well rated) because they had a very professional presentation and felt easy to deal with. They arrived about an hour late, due to traffic, but moved very quickly while carefully protecting our furniture. The staff was friendly and polite. We had one glitch. Our sofa was extra long and wouldn't fit in the elevator and they didn't want to use a construction lift on the property to take it out. We eventually had them come back another day for the sofa using a lift from the construction company. Apparently they would normally use a crane and the lift required that someone had to ride down the lift with the furniture, something the lift people wouldn't do and the movers wouldn't usually do. The movers eventually agreed to ride down with the sofa. When they arrived at the new apartment with the sofa, it wouldn't fit up the stairs or in the elevator. After discussion with management they stored the sofa overnight and came back with the sofa and five men the next day. Using ropes and a stepladder they were able to get the sofa up to the balcony and into the apartment on the third floor. While there was some contention over the sofa, we feel that they stepped up to the plate and handled the situation well. read more

This was my first time using a moving company and I am positive I would never try moving myself again. So much less stress :) I got help from Lexel to move apartments a mile apart with in the same town (Waltham). They were very professional and quick - and finished the job with the minimum 2 hr price that they charge. I had quite a bit of stuff with at least 23 large boxes, a queen size bed and a huge TV but they had no problems moving it in less than 2 hours. The were very professional and unloaded the stuff as we instructed in appropriate rooms. Would definitely recommend. read more

Where do I start? They low balled my moving estimate and then increased my quote but couldn't explain the increase. The math did not add up. This is not my first move (Moved 3 times in Boston in the past 4 years) and by far this was the worst experience I had . They do not advocate for their customer and were very unprofessional. I moved from Providence (RI) to Brooklyn (NY), 3BR apartment. It was a difficult move: narrow stairways at both places, from 3rd floor to second floor. The guys did a great job at packing and moving our stuff. Despite the absolutely fair pricing, Lexel offers high quality. The movers are friendly, efficient, and way more careful than other companies we hired in the past. Lexel just finished moving us in and I cannot say enough good things about them. Not only did they show up quickly and packed efficiently, but they dealt with taking a couch up 2 flights of narrow stairs just to find out that it wouldn't fit in our apartment and had to go back down and over to our storage unit (and they really, really tried to make it work for us). It was the easiest moving experience I've had (and I've moved 5 times in the past decade) and when I inevitably move in a couple years I'll be calling them again.
