I discovered this store during 2025 and it has quickly become my go-to favorite grocery store. I'm here at least weekly. If you eat seasonally and value keeping your money in the local community, this is a great place to do both. Things I love: Great deals on seasonal produce, especially for members (I signed up on my second visit and boy is membership worth it!). High quality meats. Plenty of locally grown and made options with clear signage. The bulk section is especially great - bring your own containers and you can get some excellent savings on dried fruits, grains, rice, nuts, candies, beans, spices, loose-leaf tea, and more. Sometimes they do tasting days where you can try samples of the pre-made food items. Non-food things: Staff is all friendly and helpful. Parking is easy. They have an electric vehicle charging station in the lot. There is a "little free library" style shelf at the front to share books; there's always new stuff to read and often a selection of cookbooks to try out. Some prices are higher than at other stores so I do shop in multiple places depending on my list. For anything I want in bulk, local, or organic, this is where I get it. Plus, people here are just nice. Staff, customers, everybody. The vibe here is positive and comfortable and it's just a nice place to be. read more

I signed up for a Vegan baking class. Courtney is a great teacher, having first a little multiple choice quiz with little prizes(Today the prizes were vegan lollipops.) then showing a vegan cake being baked on a You Tube video, giving us tasters of two differently made vegan chocolate chocolate chip cookies and lastly supplying an assortment of topping to decorate our (made by Courtney) mini vegan chocolate cakes. Our chocolate cakes are about 4 1/2-5 inches in diameter. The topping choices were: fresh raspberries and blackberries, colored sprinkles, pecans and chocolate pieces shaped like 1/2 footballs. Courtney first made the dough to make one of the chocolate chocolate chip cookies. It's only a 90 minute class, so that bowl of dough went back to the kitchen to be baked off. Courtney then made fresh vegan vanilla buttercream, just to show us how easy it is to make as a vegan topping.. Since it was not a full class we were all offered a second cake to decorate with the vegan buttercreams and the other toppings. read more

First, the employees are always helpful, cheerful, enthusiastic. What a pleasant difference from shopping at some bigger stores! I rarely buy prepared foods, but, with the weather as hot and humid as it has been, i succumbed, and am delighted with my purchase: orange quinoa. The list of ingredients is too long to type, but includes quinoa, scallions, almonds, currants, peas, seasonings. Refreshing, filling, nutritious. will have to try some of their other offerings. read more

The Lexington Co-op on Hertel is a great store. Many times they have special events with tasters. This Saturday it was time for CitrusFest. 4 different tasters of Naval Orange, Blood Orange, Cara Cara Orange and Minneola Tangelos. I really liked the cara cara, nice and sweet. There were also tasters of one of their home made soups, vegetarian lemon rice. Very tasty and a great soup for these freezing cold days. The other taster (almost a whole meal) was orange quinoa salad on a bed of greens. That was a good and tasty salad with a nice freshness from the orange. While cruising the store I noticed the other home made soups and was intrigued by the East African Peanut soup and decided to have a cup. That was really, really good!!!! Good peanut flavor and plenty of heat by the cayenne pepper. Gives you a little sweat. I will be back there more often for that soup. They are all ready for the Chiefs-Bills game with a stadium display made out if 6 packs of beer and of course Josh Allen. read more

There are so many great things in the Lexington Co op. My favorite vegetarian sandwich ever is their Reuben that is only made according to a manager, around St Patrick's day. When they are making those, I will buy them 8 at a time. Yes that's how good they are. But aside from that there is usually something really enticing to pick from in their to go sections. They had a delicious vegetarian blt and and a tofu buffalo sauce wrap. They also have the best corn bread muffins that I can remember having, with whole kernels of corn in them. There are lots of delicious choices of vegan and non vegan desserts. In other words there are loads of choices to grab on your way home or to go get instead of ordering in. Their produce can sometimes be a bit inconsistent. But that's certainly made up for by so many other things at the co op. The staff is always a joy especially the checkout staff. But always look twice in the parking lot. It's a bit small and busy with everyone trying to pull in fast from Hertel and getting in and out of spaces. read more

So we have a whole new world these days with Covid. It's cut way down on store traffic and shopping in person. But that hasn't stopped the coop. They have adjusted quickly and the store is super safe and easy to navigate. And they have a bunch of new offerings too. Some new salads and other prepared foods. And they make pop tarts occasionally. I didn't grow up with pop tarts, but as an adult who has now had them a few times, I completely understand peoples general happiness with them. I loveeee shopping at the Lexington Co-op! I recently became an owner and I'm embarrassed by how long it took me after shopping here so often. This is my go-to place to shop for when I need something quick, when I need just a few high quality things, when I'm looking for a local loaf of bread, good organic fairtrade coffee, a quick breakfast, or an easy lunch. Some of my favorite things about this place: 1. The Nashville chicken sandwich. OMG. Yo. I love this sandwich. This sandwich got me through 2021. It's made up of breaded chicken thighs (I believe), with a spicy sweet sauce, sweet pickles (don't be scared the flavor is ballin'), and a tasty soft bun. Is it healthy? No. Is it delicious and easy to grab and eat while running around like a crazy person (aka a parent/guardian)? YUP. 2. They have mini shopping carts for the little guys! My 6-year-old absolutely loves this. He insists on putting all our shopping items in his cart, which is quickly overwhelmed because even though we will go in for ground coffee and yogurt, we leave with so much more every time. 3. You can find lots of creative and actually good options for all types of diets in here. 4. The Breadhive sourdough loaves.... YES. Any time I grab one of these for the week I truly feel like I am living the height of luxury. 5. They have my favorite (my 'not local' favorite) coffee here - Equal Exchange. Of course Lexington Co-Op is reliable for their quality groceries, prepared foods, and uniqueness of items available. My only frustration with the store is that they seem to NEVER have sufficient cashiers. If you happen to hit the line to cash out with people in front of you, expect a five-to-ten minutes per person in front of you... until someone with a walkie talkie discovers the line to cash out is backed up to the laundry soaps-- then everyone gets processed. I love Lexington, but I will never go in if time is of the essence... can't guarantee how quickly I can give them money and leave. read more

This place is definitely not for me. I went there once & was shocked at the prices. Everything was SO expensive & most of the produce looked horrible !! Even the coffee was bad. I will never go there again ! --------------------------- 5/22/19 - ok, so I went there again , only because my son needed Sponge Candy to take to Japan, for my other son who has been there for a couple years now. It's the Lexington Co-Op, except now there's another location in North Buffalo! I've been here a few times, for smaller specialty items (fire cider from local purveyors). While typically the produce/meats are a bit expensive for me to consistently shop here, I cannot deny the quality of the produce and the wonderfully sourced seafood/meats. There are also plenty of sales here on produce from time to time so don't be afraid to come check it out. Lexington's Kitchen is also a pretty great value for delicious and healthy prepared foods. While there is a smaller choice than some other grocery stores, the choices are high quality with vegan options. I like the layout of store. It's small and everything is relatively easy to find. There are lots of coffee beans from local roasters available for purchase as well. I recommend the Co-Op for sure! read more

Absolutely love having Lexington Co-Op so close to home! We live about 3 miles away in Kenmore and had popped into the location on Elmwood a few times. Thanks to the Hertel location, I've already found a few new favorite items that only they carry. I love the small size, it makes it easy to get in and get what I want. I also love the abundance of local products and how well they are displayed. I prefer to shop local and it's super easy to find those items! Bread Hive is a definite local favorite of ours. The dining area is adorable and comfortable with free wi-fi and also plenty of outdoor tables. We've grabbed a couple of quick meals here and have been happy with the numerous salad and hot bar items we've tried. Also super impressed with the huge variety of canned and bottled beverages, we love trying out new types of juices and sodas! read more

If you're looking for local/organic/GF/vegan food or items, this is a nice place to swing by. They aren't as big as Whole Foods, but they carry a variety of teas, produce, baked goods and snacks. I was surprised to see they carried Japanese sweet potatoes and a wide variety of Yogi teas. The meat in their meat section is very fresh and you can tell it's not food-colored red. Certain things can be a bit overpriced here, yes, but still a nice store to visit for healthy products. :) read more

One thing about choosing to eat plant-based is not being able to find a lot of dessert places to enjoy a treat every once in a while. But guess what?!! That sweet tooth can be satisfied at LC now that they carry an eclectic selection of vegan baked goods at the Hertel location. Cakes, cookies, chocolate bark, peanut butter cups - vegan friends, you don't have to eat frozen desserts from the freezer anymore! I was so happy to see more choices and my family tried the vegan: + peanut butter cup (very rich, share one!) + chocolate chip cookies + apple pie slice + banana bread + cupcakes: vanilla, chocolate and the chocolate ganache - that last one is soooooo good! The Lexington Co-op's Elmwood location is really out of the way considering where I live, so the fact that they've now got a little more convenient location on Hertel makes me jump for joy! I'm so glad I finally got to check this place out. The hype of their recent opening has finally died down a little bit, so I decided to make the trek from the 'burbs on a late Monday morning. I've started buying honey from the Co-op since it's one of the few places around that sells raw honey from local beekeepers (local honey helps curb my bad allergies!). I found that what I was looking for was incredibly easy to find (in the same aisle as the tea!), even though it was my first time visiting. As a grocery store, I'd say it's a great and considerable option if you live in the area. Prices all seemed to be similar to what you could get at any other grocery store in Buffalo, but here you've got the benefit of locally made products, as well as great vegan and gluten free options. You can sit down and get food here, too. Not only do they have a food bar, but pastries as well. I was immediately drawn to the bakery and ended up buying a pair of cookies for my brother and myself. They were soft and delicious! Extra star for the spacious parking lot and wide aisles - something the Elmwood location seems to lack. I think I like this Co-op location so much better! I have been very pleased with the rearranging and updating that the co-op has done in the past few months. It has a much better flow and organization to it now. They have also improved on the cafe cleanliness and the staff seem to be much friendlier and better trained. I love to stop in here and am thrilled to see these improvements. Huge fan of our local Co-Op. the employees are all super friendly and the Hertel location has ample parking and is quite spacious. I try to do the bulk of my shopping there which has forced my family and I to focus on our purchases and only purchase what we need. We frequent the store several times a week to purchase ingredients for a few days worth of dinners as well as fresh produce. There is a prepared foods section "Lexi's Kitchen" and many of the choices are delicious! There are also tons of gluten free food choices store wide. read more

Lexington Co-Op is the local food market everyone should enjoy going to because even on their busiest days you can get in and out in a timely fashion. Many local brands, local farm produce and meats are sold here which is a huge plus! Also from each dollar you spend some of the money stays local. You can become a member for $80 a year and receive deals they offer and change up every week. More than one person can use the four digit number as well. The employees at Lexington Co-Op are the ones who make you feel welcome, are very knowledgeable, and make you wanting to come back again and again. The meat manager that makes house-made sausages is very talented. My husband Dan and I like getting the specialty made Irish sausages for "Bangers & Mash" every year for St. Patty's Day. We also like getting the house made ginger scallion chicken sausage and spinach/ feta. They are all top notch!! Awesome team there! The cheese selection is on point but we would like to see the first light goat cheese flavors back! Local goat cheese- the best. The bootleg Bucha is nice to see on tap, Breadhive bagels, etc. Also the house made soups are tasty and the dips (esp the cashew pepper tofu dip- sounds weird but fabulous). I love the local produce. For the first time I made a fresh green bean casserole with a recipe from the co op they had on sample for thanksgiving. Wow what a difference! It was a lot more work but worth it in the end. Go sometime and pick up Tipico coffee for the week or a coffee and house-made breakfast Sammie. We come here often and don't mind! We don't miss the larger grocery stores. Come to Lexington Co-Op on Hertel Ave or Elmwood Ave if you want a unique grocery shopping experience. This place has been open for one week now and I have been here five times. Sure! It's right across the street.... and yes! I was one of the first one hundred customers on opening day so I got a mug for free coffee for a year (yay me!). But, in all honestly what keeps me coming back (and will keep returning long after my coffee mug is relegated to the back of a cupboard) is the friendly, passionate staff and the wonderful quality of food. I have never seen anyone working at this delightful place without a smile on their face.... and they are always willing to help out and answer questions. The food..... everything from the produce.... to the groceries..... to the cheeses..... to the freshly prepared items (soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods.....) are wonderful and fresh. I'm still waiting in line for the stores grand opening. I've no doubt that this location will be as great an asset to the Hertel community as it has been in the Elmwood Village. More to come once I've had a chance to shop inside. Edit: Now that I've had a chance to see it for myself, my predictions were correct. The Hertel Avenue store is a gem. Brilliant, beautiful, spacious, well-stocked and welcoming -- everything we've loved about the Elmwood store and the Lexington location before it, but even greater. Why shop at the Co-op when there are so many other great choices for groceries or grab-and-go food in town? The biggest reason - We own it! While open to everyone, this store is owned by the people who use it. It is here for us because of us. Every effort is made to source from local growers and vendors--produce, health and beauty products, prepared foods, meats... Do you know the person who grew that salad you are making for dinner? Stop by and there's a good chance you could get to know them. And it's estimated that 57¢ out of every dollar stays in the WNY economy. There is also a sidewalk cafe and inside seating, so grab a sandwich and some sides and get cozy. Plenty of vegan options, and foods for every diet. Definitely my favorite in Buffalo. While I enjoy the cozy vibe of the original on Elmwood Village, there is no comparison when it comes to the volume of things they have on the shelves. The Hertel location simply has more floor space and thus more variety. I greatly appreciate the volume of local finds, not just generic co-op replacements (which is a side tangent against Wegmans and their placement of Wegmans brand things over local vendors). The bulk goods are a great value and I appreciate that they have Bootleg Bucha on tap. It makes me feel better to refill my growler rather than get a new bottle each time. If you're going to be coming here regularly it's worth investing the $80 for lifetime membership. You'll get great deals on daily specials and semiannual member shops for discounted price. So, TL;DR: this location is big enough to give you variety without overwhelming with choices, and you can feel good about doing good and shopping local. read more

I'm not sure why I have not reviewed Lexington Co-op before. I come here all the time. I am an owner of the coop so here's my review... I love this place, they're always so nice and helpful here. This past time I went I couldn't get my card to work so the very nice cashier suspended the transaction for me. She went on to work with other customers and the whole time just had a smile on her face and was pleasant with everyone. After about 15 minutes I was able to figure out what the problem was, and she took me right away and helped me out. When I was wandering the aisles, there were Associates who would ask if I needed help and gave me helpful hints. One even told me about the upcoming sales so that I wouldn't miss anything. I do love their variety of Organics and prepared foods and cheeses and... Really everything. I do wish that their prices weren't so high, that makes me remove one star. Things that I bought a year ago have really increased in price, for example there nitrate-free Battistoni pepperoni has increased by a dollar for a stick of pepperoni. I know that seems not like much, but I really love pepperoni! Anyway, do I recommend you go to this place? I really really do! read more

I've loved the Co OP since it was a tiny store on Lexington 30+ years ago. I'm now a proud member and love both Elmwood and Hertel locations. This review is for Hertel Avenue. For starters you will LOVE the ample parking, it's quite large compared to the other location which has parking for about a dozen cars. My favorite thing in the store is the Vegan rice krispie treat topped with Chocolate, OMG! It's also just nice walking in and seeing all the local produce. They also offer fun classes like canning. Become a member of you are local & support the community . You will get a dividend check at the end of the year. If you are from out of town and just passing through, I suggest this market if you are looking for a great health conscious place to shop. read more

Finally had the chance to check out the new location; it's beautiful in every way. The bulk assortment is incredible. Endless spices, seeds, grains, nuts, and yummy chocolate covered treats. The meat prices are pretty typical for grass fed/organic. Chicken prices are about double compared to Wegmans. Great variety of craft beer; noticed a GF option! The salad and hot bar are truly delicious. And there's Kombucha on tap! Four different choices. There's honestly nothing negative about this store. The staff is sincerely helpful and nice, the check out wait isn't bad, and there's a good amount of outdoor seating to enjoy lunch or a coffee. Super excited about this location. I've always wanted to be a member of the co-op. While this location isn't exactly close to me, it's significantly closer than the Elmwood location. I stopped by today after work and I wasn't disappointed. As others have said, ample parking and beautiful facility. Today they had so many samples I could have almost had dinner. The prices are high, comparatively, but the prepared food section is where it's at for me. I had cauliflower and parsnip au gratin for dinner and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I also tried the chicken and rice & succotash, both equally delicious. Small complaint- my to go box was super flimsy and tough to keep closed. Beter containers would definitely improve the experience. read more

I love this place. If I had the financial means, I would probably purchase all of my groceries here. The store has a good vibe: well lit, laid out nicely, staff is friendly, etc. I like that they have a little area where you can sit to eat prepared food you've purchased or drink a coffee. I enjoy coming in here and grabbing something from the hot food bar or salad bar and grabbing a coffee. Not the most cost effective- it's easy to drop $10 on a small amount of something very quickly- but the quality is obviously good. Maybe if I win the lottery you'll see me in here buying my weekly groceries, ya never know. read more

Superb addition to the Hertel area! We stopped for lunch and had a meal from the prepared food bar. I tried the mac and cheese (yummy but a tad mushy) and the pineapple fried rice (not terrific and no pineapple). I tried the natural stevia cola and- holy cow- that was nasty. It coated my throat in a robitussin burn. Not the co-ops fault though. Just a warning to you. We ate outside and enjoyed the people watching. Next time I'll buy groceries. I was so excited to see this place open and it has been more than what I thought it could be! All of the employees are super friendly and helpful. The isles are neat and accessible. Prices are amazing. And their prepared food is DELISH! I had a breakfast sandwich and soup the other day and both were reasonably priced and really good. This location is a bit better than Elmwood, especially if you are claustrophobic. I will say that it seems that the food bar is more catered to meat-eaters, as there won't be as many veggie options as Elmwood's location. Parking and dining areas are a nice touch - you can eat food inside! Also, you can breathe in the store. I will say that it is hard to shop here on a budget for your full grocery list. You might have to make adjustments or just pay a bit more. But I often have to look other places for my full list. read more
