Update: After hearing my problem, the store was proactive and accommodating. They ended up re-doing my glasses for me. Overall, it was a lot of back and forth, but the staff were professional, patient, and tried to make things right. The replacement frame is higher in their retail value than my original purchase, though it caused a bit of confusion for me at first -- I initially thought they gave me a cheaper frame. In-store prices are much higher than what you can find online it seems. Online the frame is only 200-300. I originally paid 450. And their retail price is 600+ I wish the experience was smoother, but I appreciate the store taking responsibility. read more

Nice front desk staff and Dr. Tracy had a good manner and was clear in his communication. However, Dr. Wolitzer was condescending and a little rude. She stopped the appointment because I flinched during the eye exam, and sent me a referral to a doctor who was not seeing patients. Would recommend going to a different office. read more

Shame on this business. They charge exorbitant prices, close early without telling you, and then do nothing. Not honoring your business hours = lack of trust. Prices are predatory. Very friendly and service focused neighborhood store. Dr. Tracy spent quite a bit of time with me during my eye exam. I never felt rushed and he explains a lot to you about how the eye works. He is very personable and takes a lot of pride in being able to find solutions to address correction issues that others might just tell you you need to live with. He seems to pride himself on being up on the latest products that are available in the market and how he differentiates his service offering from his competitors. You sense he will spend whatever time you need to get it right. However, they are in the business of selling product and there is not a lot of upfront conversation or transparency around what things cost. Even the exam (not inexpensive) which when I called was told that prices can vary depending upon the complexity of your situation. Also, Dr Tracy apparently follows very rigid rules around prescribing and fitting contact lenses, maybe it's an Optometrist thing, but I have never been refused my prescription if I didn't purchase lenses from the store. Be forewarned, ask about all of this upfront and throughout the process to make sure you understand if the path they are going down fits within your budget before getting rung up or wasting too much time on solutions that won't work for you. Also what it will cost if for whatever reason you choose not to buy the product through them. It all felt less than transparent. read more

Dr. Tracy and everyone that works at this office is so amazing! I have had a difficult time finding contacts that work for my astigmatism and Dr. Tracy went above and beyond to make sure that not only were my contacts the correct prescription but that they also sat correctly on my eye. He had me try out a pair of contacts for a week and then come back and see how they were fitting. I found that he was a perfectionist when it came to fitting my lenses, and now I am thrilled that I have the most comfortable pair of contacts I have ever worn! I also had a new glasses prescription and they have a wonderful selection of glasses and give great advice about which ones look best for your face shape! Dr. Tracy is hands down the best optometrist I've ever had --- and I've been seeing optomoetrists for over 35 years. He is the first, and only, optometrist who took the time, care and patience to find me a pair of contact lenses I could live with. He kept giving me different pairs, and would have me come back after wearing them for a few days. He would then examine the lens in my eye and with each pair he learned just a little bit more about what my particular eyes needed --- until at last he found the perfect pair. No other doctor has ever done that for me. They usually give you a pair or two and if they don't work out, they just throw up their hands. Not Dr. Tracy. He knew he could fit me properly and that it would just take a little longer. It broke my heart that I had to leave him behind in NY when I moved to San Diego. I've been putting off finding a new optometrist because I am so doubtful I can find one as good as he is --- but alas, I've reached the stage where I need a separate reading lens prescription, or something --- so it's time to venture out. This is not only an excellent optometric practice, but the selection of eyewear is terrific as well. I'm a long time patient/customer. The exams are thorough and every test and result comes with an explanation and recommendation. I truly appreciate doctors that take their time and share their findings. I'm more "educated" now in how my eyes work and why certain tests are necessary to keep on top of my eye health. I (and family/friends) love the fashion aspect of eyewear and the collection here is terrific and unique. The opticians (I like working with Preet) are knowledgeable in making recommendations for frames (not just what looks good, but what works with our prescriptions) and lenses as well. I made the mistake of using them once. As far as I know, Gary Tracy does not come in frequently, but instead they use optometrists who work at more than one practice, freelance perhaps. I was there at least half a dozen times over a four month period and he was never in. When I went to the office a year ago, the exam room equipment was positively antiquated. Even the optometrist I saw vaguely alluded to that as a concern when I had to go back because the prescription they gave me was incorrect. I ended up going to my old optometrist upstate [out of network] got the correct prescription and brought it to them. They did correct it for me with the caveat that they would not be responsible, which I understood. After two months, one of my lenses turned cloudy. Ironically, it was the first time in two months that I even went to use my glasses since they were only for night driving. I believe it was Ulysses with whom I spoke, who tried to tell me it was my fault. He said that I had either washed them incorrectly, left them in a hot car, etc., and it was not their responsibility. Really, cheap optical lenses are that sensitive??? Furious, I asked to speak with a manager. After too much time and a few employee-only conferences, they agreed to have the lens replaced. Once my glasses were back, I went to pick them up and will never return again. P.S. I couldn't be happier with Dr. Tracy who was patient, thorough, professional, punctual and knowledgeable. I can now see 20/20 with my contacts. Wow, Dr. Tracy and his able lieutenants give new meaning to the words "customer service" and "business integrity." After showing up almost traumatized from my experience at Jeffrey's Manhattan Eyeland, Chris immediately put me through the ringer: all kinds of test, questioning, studying, thinking...and scheduling an appointment for me to see Gary Tracy. The glasses previously prescribed were completely off and he has - and is still - working patiently with me to see if the prescription is still off or the brand of lens is not right for my eyes. He adds a bit of art to what seems like a science, and I'm fully confident that he and Chris together will solve the mystery of these faulty glasses. Over the years I have seen numerous optometrists and ophthalmologists but Dr. Tracy has been by far my best experience. My vision improved with the change in prescription and the gas permeable contacts are the the best fit I've ever had. My wife, who wears progressive lenses in her glasses, also went to Dr. Tracy and is extremely surprised by how much clearer her vision is with the new glasses. Dr. Tracy took the time to insure that everything was just right. There is great attention to detail. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. Overall, I can't imagine a better experience. I love Dr Gary! He is a wonderful, informative, patient, kind and knowledgeable doctor. He answers questions, even silly questions, with no judgment and clearly knows his business when it comes to eyes. I can't say enough good things about my recent eye exam. The employees of the store are wonderful as well; I didn't find a pair of frames that thrilled me (I am loyal to one brand that he doesn't carry), but the selections they carry are definitely well edited and stylish. I've been burned before - I had an eye doctor once talk me into two sets of glasses - one for driving and one for use while at work/using the computer - and wound up spending way more money than I should have. This is the MOST professional eyewear shop I have ever frequented. My prescription is a bit wonky & I am very sensitive to any errors or imperfections when the lenses are cut or made. I bought eyeglasses from them a number of years ago. One of the lenses has fallen out of the frame numerous times. I would go back to the store to have it tightened but the problem continued. After giving up for a number of years I decided to go back to them today. I was told for the first time that the lens was cut too small and that it needed to be replaced. She said that they would only take 20% off the $320 replacement lens because it was past the 2 year warranty. When I pointed out that no one had said the lens was too small when I went in while I was still under the warranty she said 20% is all she could do for me. So much for taking responsibility for their mistake. read more

Do not shop here for frames or lenses. They are overpriced and overrated. They will also take your money before they place the order and refuse to give it back to you if you cancel the order. They basically have stolen money from me and I'm in the process of disputing it with my credit card company. They do tell you no refunds, but not until you try to get one. And they also don't recognize that this was an order cancellation not a refund yet they won't give back the hundreds of dollars. They are a scam. Go for an eye exam, DO NOT go for frames or lenses. Highly recommended. I've needed vision correction since about age 7 (I just turned 63), so I'm experienced in these matters. I've been a loyal patient of Dr. Tracy's for over 25 years through glasses and contact lenses, back to glasses only -- obviously, very satisfied. I trust him implicitly. He's knowledgeable and experienced; has utmost integrity; is conscientious, kind and patient; takes the time and whatever steps are necessary - an honorable gentlemen. His practice feels like "a family business" - truly personal service as well as accommodating, and that's not easy to come by anymore especially in New York City. This cute family run UWS optometrist office was a great fit for what I wanted for my eye care needs. Dr. Tracy was hands down the best as far as being knowledgable and in his patient "bed side" manners. In the past, I've felt like someone thrown into a conveyor belt with zero human interaction from doctors and their staff. Not here. The doctor took his time during the eye exam and explained to me any changes he was seeing. He made it a fun/painless process and answered any questions I had. The front office staff was just as pleasant. The office is not large by any means, but I was surprised by the collection of frames they kept on hand to choose from. They were able to help me find new frames that were extremely fun and fashionable without having to leave the neighborhood. I left with designer frames and none of the designer store snootiness. It seems like Gary Tracy is trying to expand his business beyond his capability. I went to him for 13 years, mostly for contact lenses (gas permeables), but also for eyeglasses. I had to stop going there when it took him more than a month to replace a lens that was rubbing against my cornea (and thus was very uncomfortable). It turned out that it took so long because he only sees customers for contact lenses one day a week, and if that day is booked, too bad. You can try for the next week. He is conscientious, but an optician is only as good as his availability-- especially when there is a problem that needs to be addressed. . read more

You were the one who waited on me. I dont care if you attached a MBA degree to that 10+ experience to your resume. I adore Dr. Tracy. I've been a patient since 2009. Back then I was just a visitor from Los Angeles who desperately needed a new pair of contact lenses because my current pair was super old and scratching out my eyeballs. I googled optometrist on the UWS and went to the first one I came across--not a smart move and I promptly left. But then I found Dr. Tracy, thank goodness! He was amazing. I have a very high prescription plus astigmatism and he took the time to fit me with a perfect pair of lenses. Dr. Tracy also took the time to answer all my questions about eye health and the history of contact lenses. He was also the first New Yorker to encourage me to move to the city and when I did a year later, I was so happy to see him again. I've been a patient ever since. I live in the West Village now and while he's all the way uptown, I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. I have been wearing glasses for 10 years, and out of those 10 years I have been to about 20 different eye doctors, My search ended 3 years ago, when I found Dr Tracy. Everything about my experience from when I walked in until I walked out was amazing. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and are willing to go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of. Every time I walk into the store I feel like I am at home. They all took amazing care of me and made sure my prescription was 100 accurate. Gary Tracy is the best at what he does. I have never had worn glasses that had made my vision so clear. I am a very indecisive person, and it take forever for me to make up my mind. I usually cant find any glasses that fit my face correctly, or that I like. While at Dr. Tracy's office Lyn sat there with me and was able to help me find numerous frames that I fell in love with. She was professional, caring, patient, knowledgeable and funny. She had me laughing and having fun the whole time I was trying on the frames. They have a great selection of frames, and I was so surprised I was able to find a pair that I loved. I wound up walking out with two different frames, and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Tracy has been my eye-doctor nearly my whole life. He is the BEST! I wouldn't trust anyone else with my vision. He is endlessly patient and takes the time to explain things and be sure that you are completely happy. He always knows the latest research and developments in contact lens and eye health, and shares that with his patients. He genuinely cares about his patients' eye health and comfort. If there are any problems with my contacts, he is happy to exchange them or try to help me figure out a solution, which is invaluable. Everyone in his office is extremely friendly and helpful.
