Had a routine eye exam with Dr. Lin . Was super patient , knowledgeable , easy to talk to. Clearly explained what she was doing. They have a service where they do eye drops to open your pupils for a health portion of the exam , she clearly explained that it might cause some blurred vision in the short time following the exam. I had a broadway show after so i declined but will come back alcor my next exam and do it. I'm a NYC native living elsewhere ... and when in the city a week or so ago, I needed a repair on my glasses. I walked into OPTYX because I liked the glasses in the window. There were customers there but after a short wait, they took my glasses to the back and fixed the problem! It wasn't particularly easy but they did it. And they wouldn't let me pay!! Just sayin'. The people are nice, but this place is too expensive and is misleading in their cost information. I've been going there for a couple of years and always left feeling like I paid more than I expected based on what they told me when I went in. Today I went in to shop for new glasses during their Memorial Day "sale," which advertised "up to" 50% percent off on frames and 20% on lenses. I picked two frames and I was told they were both 50% off. But when I went back after making my decision, I was told the frame I selected was only 25% off. Then they added in the cost of the lenses and the total was over $1000! Including both discounts! That was their "sale"! Needless to say, I walked out without making a purchase. I have been a loyal patron of Optxy at 2384 Broadway for almost 10 years. On Monday July 10, 2023 I went in to have my Fendi glasses adjusted. I observed the tech having a conversation with a coworker while she was supposed to be addressing the issue at hand. It was obvious that she was preoccupied with that conversation and not devoting her attention to carefully handling my glasses. Ten mins later she returned by saying that she had good news and bad new. She had broken the handle completely off from the right side of my "Fendi" frames. She showed no remorse instead insinuated that my glasses were damaged prior to bringing them in for a slight adjustment. I was completely beside myself. Upon returning home I contacted the manager at the 3rd Ave location (1036 3rd Ave. NY,NY 10065) After making him aware of the situation he stated that he would research the frame follow up by the end of the following day and offered me a slight discount on the frame. It is an insult to only offer a discount on a frame that was mishandled and destroyed by an employee. I deserve to have the frame replaced alone with the proper lenses Installed. I only go to this place because I really like my optometrist. I don't know what it is about their emailing system, but it looks like I'm not the only one with issues. A year or two ago, when I first shopped there, I was promised my receipt by email MULTIPLE times and I never received it. This time around, once again, despite confirming my email address, I never got the promised goods. They were also late getting my glasses made. I had to call multiple times to follow up. One lady I spoke to on a Saturday said "I will personally follow up on this and call you on Tuesday when I'm next in." Of course she didn't call. So yeah, I will keep going to my optometrist but will have glasses made elsewhere in the future. read more

Bought a pair of glasses with a year warranty which were made defectively. The eye lenses kept popping out and they wouldn't even help pop them back in. Had to go to another eye glass stored which did it multiple times for free. Then part of the frame broke off and I had to go to another store which had a "technician" to put another bottom part of the frame on. Finally was told by two other eye glass repair shops that the glasses were not made right and were defective. Went back to the store but now my warranty had expired so they wouldn't do anything without full price charges - even though their work was defective to begin with which they should've known. Even tried their customer support but no response. Optyx is a total scam - their sales people are clueless and they try and make money off providing bad products and services. Just dropping this review while I'm waiting for my eyes to finish dilating. This branch has the best optometrist I've been to. Dr. Nancy Choe was very personable and professional during my eye exam. Answered any questions I had with tact and made sure my experience felt very human. The receptionist and staff on duty were also very helpful with giving me an idea of what frames would best complement my face after my examination. 10/10 service. I needed an eye exam and a new prescription for my contact lenses, so I went in to see Dr Choe at Optyx (87th St). My regular eye doctor didn't have appointments available for months (due to Covid), and his office also told me that my insurance policy ran out (mind you, I tried to see him at the beginning of 2021 when my policy was in a new calendar year). Needless to say, I got an appointment nearly immediately at Optyx @ W 87th & Bway. Dr Choe spent a lot of time testing a couple of types of lenses and let me test out a pair for a week before finalizing my prescription. She was diligent, listened well, and was helpful. I ended up getting glasses (not cheap as I need multi-focal lenses), and had fun choosing my frames with the folks working there. I know there are less expensive places to go, but I got great service and will go back annually. read more

My new GO To Optical! Was recommended to see Dr.Nancy Cho by a friend and it was the best eye exam I have ever had. She was very sweet and thorough. Grace and Kim helped me pick my glasses and I've normally not been a fan of this process but they made it so much more fun then I could have imagined. I felt I was hanging with my girlfriends at a styling session! They got me into a gorgeous new pair of glasses and a Fun pair of sunglasses. I have bought two pairs of glasses at different Optux locations. I just went into the Optyx on 87th and Broadway to have my glasses tightened and adjusted, and there were two people working there and a doctor, and they said there was no one who could help me adjust my glasses. Round 2: I never ordered glasses from them given the horrible experience. On Dec 31, I thought to myself, maybe I should use my insurance benefits on contact lenses. So, I call the office to order and a call back scheduled to confirm my prescription. So far so good. Guess what: they don't have any record of what contact lenses I tried! WOW! Do you know how we found it: I told the doctor where the samples are located in her office (that's how I remembered what I'd tried). But, wow! Anyway, I go to pick up my contacts a few days later: I ask the front desk person to check the prescription on the glasses I'm currently wearing as I had told the doctor I would when I come to pick up. They are an older pair which I think have the correct prescription on them. She asks me to drop off my glasses and pick them up later. My prescription is -5.25, so dropping off my glasses is out of the question and it takes her less than 1 minute to do that. Happy new year, not! read more

Bad experience. Firstly I had called the number that my insurance and google had listed as 68th street, scheduled an appointment, confirmed my insurance, and was sent their intake form to fill out. I filled it out, thinking the questions were rather intrusive for an eye exam. Then headed to the address listed. The business is closed. I called the number back and they said oh were on 87th street now. Would have been nice if they mentioned that in the first call. So I get there and they have me down as having an appointment, but claim they don't take my insurance, and don't have an intake form for me. I definitely already confirmed this and filled this out. She was super rude about the insurance thing (my vision insurance is pretty much accepted everywhere, it was really weird to do a 180 on this. I confirmed this both on my insurance website and in the initial phone call, even gave them my plan ID), and when she asked me to fill out the intake form a second time I declined and left. read more

I went in to get a new eyeglass prescription, intending to compare prices, and then decide whether to buy there or online. They quoted me a price that was too high, so I took my prescription and said i would buy online. However, they would not give me the PD measurement (distance between pupils) which requires only holding up a ruler to your eyes for 5 seconds. They would not do it unless you plunked down several hundred dollars to buy one of their frames. What a ripoff!!! read more

Been looking for a new eyewear location that accepts my husband's new insurance and I came across Optyx on 87th st. Their frame selection is so well assorted. My husband and I have a significant prescription that requires a good optician to help us understand the best lens options and frame styles. Grace helped us both, not only to pick out a new pair using our insurance benefits. But she also was kind enough to make suggestions based on our requests and prescription requirements. She thoroughly explained our options making us feel trusting her suggestions were sincere. Very knowledgeable and kind all around. Needless to say I'm very happy with our choices, glad to have found a new place for my family and myself. Terrible customer service. I booked 4 days in advance, they call me less than 2 hours before my appointment to tell me they need to reschedule me because they booked another customer for my appointment. So I rearrange my day (same day) AGAIN to accommodate their error, then I had something urgent come up on the way to the office and would be only 8 minutes after their new time so they waited to cancel me completely when I was only 1 block away. The urgent matter wouldn't have been an issue if they didn't cancel me less than 2 hours before my appointment. Horrible customer service - actually, there is none. First time in this optical, I came in for an emergency adjustment. My glasses fell and I accidentally stepped on them. They were kind enough to offer to attempt to bring it back as close as possible to its original form. I was then asked to have a seat while I waited for someone to free up. As I waited not only were they kind enough to offer me some cold water but they also engaged in conversation with me in between helping other people. I did wait a bit, however there is an upside. They saved my glasses as a courtesy and didn't charge me! They made me feel comfortable enough to make an appointment for an eye exam so I can get my next pair with them. Went in just so I could get a check up so I could refill a contact lens order. You see our government will not allow us citizens to wear contact lenses without continued payoffs to the optometrist industry and my last visit was more than 1 year ago so lens.com would not refill my prescription. The good folks at optyx, refused to allow me to just get a check up ($200) and forced me to get a fitting for contact lenses that I neither wanted nor needed (have had the same prescription for 20 years) so another $100. So for fifteen minute exam / fitting that I did not need cost me $300. I work for a bank. Maybe we can charge optometrists a yearly fee of $300 for a bank account. Make sure they sit through a 20 minute presentation on how to manage their financial well being. Seems fair. Jerks read more

I went in for a routine annual eye exam and had the worst experience and the most uncomfortable interaction with the woman working near the front desk (not the receptionist). Although I had been to this place a year prior, she informed me my insurance was no longer in-network. All fine- I should've double checked before going in. The problem was, she proceeded to tell me no matter where I went, I would need to pay $200, to cover a standard eye exam. I was very confused, as this seemed like an exhorbitant amount of money to cover a routine exam. I continued to ask if this was because I was out of network, but the woman insisted that's how much I would pay regardless of my insurance (saying how the $200 is AFTER insurance covered costs- which wouldn't be logical anyway, since I was out of network). I said I was there for lenses, and would rather find another place that took my insurance, to which she proclaimed: "you would get trial lenses!!" Why would I pay $200 for an upgraded prescription and TRIAL lenses? I don't understand how this could ever be a normal or acceptable cost, but the woman continued to gaslight me in a condescending manner to make me, in turn, feel like I was stupid for even questioning her. I ended up leaving, and on my way out she yelled "hope it works out for you!". What a terrible experience, left a bad taste in my mouth. Even if my knowledge was incorrect, instead of trying to explain and walk me through the cost, she completely belittled me and glazed over any questions. What a horrible way to treat anyone, let alone a potential customer. Would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Came in for an annual eye exam. Had a great experience with Dr. Perekalsky--she was friendly, thorough, and efficient. She was able to diagnose a problem that other doctors had previously missed. Highly recommend and will return next year for an eye exam or any other eye care needs. I ordered new lenses for a pair of frames I had during the visit. After having some issues with the order and billing, I was initially unsatisfied, but OPTYX did the right thing. They gave me a partial refund and also put a significant discount on my file for use towards a new pair of glasses. I don't go to this optical but my husband does, and I just have to say I love my husband's glasses! I couldn't go with him because of our new born baby so I called and someone by the name of Grace helped me set everything up for him. She helped me figure out my vision plan and what we were entitled to which was incredibly helpful considering my husband walked in clueless. I myself didn't know what vision plan we had. Just wanted to take the opportunity to thank Grace again for her help and outstanding service. My husband also said the staff was friendly to him which is what made me think of posting a positive review. P.S. I would not recommend coming to this place. The customer service and returns for unsatisfactory purchases should be considered especially if it's for cancelling a contacts purchase within a 10min time frame. Was over charged as I found contacts cheaper else where and could tell they wanted me to purchase from them as my optometrist didn't give me my contact prescription until after I decided to choose what contacts I wanted to purchase from them. My husband and I went to Optyx only once, in December 2011, for the last eye exam and glasses we could afford before we ran out of health insurance. Dr. Karen Perekalsky gave us eye exams and good advice--in my case she corrected an eyeglasses prescription that was too strong for me, and suggested some follow-up tests I might want to have done (once I had insurance again), for some issues that she thought might be a concern. In his case she suggested an improved type of contact lenses that he did think were better, after trying them. We were both happy with her communication skills, which were excellent. A few months ago I had some problems with my eyes, and I called her to ask for copies of my records. She not only faxed me the records immediately, and explained to me again what her concerns had been, but remembered who both of us were, and asked me about our move to Virginia, and our new jobs. I wish that every doctor I encounter would be as caring! read more

Worst experience ever. I asked for a liquid to defog my glasses and they tried to convince me to change my lens into special - absolutely new ones - of course not covered by my insurance. I asked to fix my sunglasses and they first told me it would take one day then they never called then I called few minutes before closure (I was on my way) tried to make me desisting from going using the excuse that they couldn't find one minute to do the simplest of the practices. When I finally picked them up (6:58 - two minutes before closure) I realized they did nothing - the employee clearly told me 'so long as they not fall you are fine' while the other entered the room just to say - in a very passive aggressive manner - it's 7. I've been a customer since the John Gruen days... I purchased over 8 sunglasses and 3 prescription based eyewear... visiting and purchasing from multiple locations... On my most recent-and final-visit I was utterly suprised at the extreme lack of customer service and professionalism which seems to be the new corporate model. A few weeks ago had pair of prescription eyeglasses that needed adjusting.. . A simple and straightforward task for any eyeglass professional... unfortunately this turned out NOT to be the case... some how the technician damaged my lenses and did not inform me... I came back the next day and spoke with the manager... who by the way looked into my account history and saw I was a long time customer... I guess he confirmed that I purchased the Oliver People's frames and prescription from Gruene Eye's... What the manager did and said next borders on the bizarre to disrespectful... I was told by the manager of Optyx was "I should not have trusted them with my glasses" then proceeded to show me a transparent plastic sign- no larger than a smartphone- that states the stores dubious and unfriendly policy... When I questioned the store manager about this policy... and expressed my disatisfaction with his response... epically since I was a long term repeat customer... who had property damaged by Optyx staff lack of expertise and proper training... here's the discrescptful side ... I asked the manager openly and within ear shot of other customer would hear... if the new store policy towards both new and existing customers is that of contempt and a lack of sensitivity... The manager awarded my Customer Loyalty by showing me the door and telling me there's nothing that he can do for me regardless of my uears of continued support spent... no matter how much money I spent in the stores... $5 of $5,000 So now I shop elsewhere... for me nothing is more important than after sales service... how much would it have cost the store to replace my damaged lenses... how many more items I would have purchased from Optyx... If you do not mind a bait and switch this is the place for you. They tell you and charge you one price, then when you ask for your prescription, they give you another and will not release your prescription until you pay. It is unfortunate as the doctor I saw was very nice but the people working here are incompetent and unscrupulous. Find another optician, I am looking for a new one. read more
