I love that Libby's offers Italian ice. I wish I had tried it. It looked delicious, but it was a cold night, and we were walking back to our place and I didn't want to be more cold. Instead we got a variety of desserts... The best thing was the Lindzer cookie. We also tried an eclair, and 3 flavors are cannolis. The cannolis were prefilled, not filled fresh, but they were still delicious. They had some inventive flavors you don't typically see. Stopped by Libby's after dinner for dessert, a nostalgic spot I used to visit growing up. I had the carrot cake and a linzer tart cookie, both very good (especially the linzer). My family also tried a few cannolis and a black and white cookie, they loved tbe cannolis, but the b&w cookie was a bit crunchier than expected but still good! We went later in the day so selection was somewhat limited, but there was still plenty to choose from. Loved seeing that they've been around since 1922!! We stopped by Libby's Italian Pastry Shop, since they were right across the street from Zeneli's. This Italian bakery has been making pastries for 100+ years. The inside is pretty basic with a substantial amount of seating. They have a large assortment of cookies, cannolis, cakes and more available. We picked up a few different types of cookies and cannolis. They had some fun and unique kinds of cannolis, like strawberry and s'mores. Unfortunately most of the cookies were super, super dry and flat. Biting into a cookie I felt like I might have lost a tooth. This is how you know, it's best to give it up. The chocolate cannoli was pretty good. The shell was pretty fresh, and the cannoli inside was creamy and chocolatey. Sadly the cookies all went into the trash. I went there tonight for my 1st time being in the area to get the Zeppole Di San Giuseppe as it's the month of March for St Joseph's Day. I was dining at the Zeneli across the street earlier and had a sweet tooth and wanted to try out a new place. They are deep fired choux dough pastry filled with sweet creamy ricotta cheese or chocolate Italian cream or vanilla Italian cream. These are normally sprinkled with powder sugar, however they didn't offer to do it for me as I was the past customer of the night. They were out of the ricotta cream that I wanted and went with my next choice to go with the chocolate Italian cream. I had a bite of it and I wasn't happy with it. I've definitely had better and the size is very small. I also had the ricotta cheese cannoli which was better. Like all of their pastry and cookies they use original Italian Family recipes that have been passed on to the next generation since 1922. This is a family owned and operated since it started. I don't think I would return here as New Haven has so many other great choices for Italian Pastry's. read more

Went to get dessert after pizza dinner, Libby is located next to Frank Pepe's. Got a chocolate lemon pie, zeppole with vanilla custard and Italian eclairs. Choloate lemon pie is pretty much what you'd expect, the zeppole had and oily mouth feel and eclairs was filled with custard and topped with whipped cream. I got the weirdest vibe in this place. Located between two of the most iconic pizzerias to ever exist, is Libby's. I gotta say this business is lucky to be where it is. Truly wasn't anything special in my book. I've been to many Italian bakeries, and Libby's was a let down. From the service to the pastries, I was not impressed. I must say the girls at the front desk were super awkward. Felt like we were being pranked by the servers. Any question you had, was answered but in this way to where they almost didn't want to answer. Very faint, and disappointing. The selection of pastries looked great until it was time to actually take a bite. Holy stale! If that lobster tail was fresh and baked that day possibly would say it was good. But you had to pull on that crust, and absolute zero crunch. Almost painful to chew. Felt old, and lacked the love you had wished for. The filling was just lacking almost dry. I mean overall we were not happy with this experience. My mother in law even mentioned the carrot cake was not that good either. She is a carrot cake connoisseur! I took one bite and said yup she's right. Almost flavorless. Definitely not impressed. Next time we won't just choose a random spot thinking it might be good due to its location. Having stopped by Libby's again after a few years, it's changed a lot, for the worse. It looks much nicer than it used to but who cares? The quality of the food has gone way downhill. I ordered a chocolate mousse cannoli and it was inedible. The shell was soft and stale, I literally threw it out. My daughter ordered a cream pull. The dough was gross, the filling wasn't fresh, it just tasted weird. The cookies we ordered were good however and the linzer tarts were as good as they used to be. Unfortunately, I don't think we will come back here as we have better Italian cookies and pastries here. read more

Came here after dinner for a sweet treat during our recent visit to NH. Right next to Frank Pepe's on Wooster. Wish we could've sampled everything there! They have quite the assortment of baked Italian treats and cookies, including but not limited to cheesecake, cookies, cannolis, and eclairs. They also have gelato and Italian ice. We had the chocolate dipped eclair and it was light and airy with a generous amount of cream and chocolate. They have a large selection of flavors for Italian ice and we will definitely return to try some. read more

It's very rare that I give a rating under 4 stars but here we are. I went to Libby's on a whim to snag a cannoli. I wanted something sweet while I was out. They do have a lot to offer so I tried the peanut butter cannoli. The shell was slightly soft like it had been sitting in there for a while. And the peanut butter had a slight tang to it that didn't sit right with me. The staff was very friendly and patient with me while I was picking it out and I'm sure they have other good things. Really friendly Italian pastry shop in the neighborhood! After eating pizza, was craving something sweet! We got Italian Ices, but all of their baked goods looked sooo good! The cookies were plumply round I was drooling, and there was some cheesecake and assortment of cannolis (I've tried so many cannolis just can't find the one to change my mind!) and other cookies and pastries! Now to the Italian Ices - I got some of my usual picks, coconut and Vanilla with nuts. Never had nuts in Italian ice, and it was good! I liked the vanilla with nuts better than the coconut! We had cannolis ~ 2 were ok, 1 was warm, (not cold) 1 was terrible! All shells were soggy. The cheesecake was dry and tasteless and the pistachio gelato was marginal at best. The Italian pastries are delicious. The Zeppoli are marvelous even though they're only available for part of the year. Tradition. The cookies are to die for. While in New Haven Connecticut we found ourselves on Wooster Street which is know as little Italy. We had just had our Clam Pizza next door at Frank E Pepe and wanted a little dessert. Libby's was next door and so we decided to check it out. My husband opted for the original cannoli and I choose the cookies and cream one or should I say the cashier choose for me because I was very indecisive and would have probably have ordered one of each because they all looked so good! We were thinking about splitting them so we could try more of the menu. But once I took a bite of my cookies and cream one I knew I didn't want to share lol! If you love cannolis THIS is the place!!! We tried traditional, heath bar, coconut and Nutella. They were all great and surprisingly the Nutella was the least favorite. Goes perfectly with an expresso which Tony made. He was awesome, reminded me of my husband's uncle Tony. Took great care in making a high quality coffee. There's seating inside or outside. Located right next to Frank Pepe's , we opted to go here right after for some dessert and coffee as a group of us had traveled all morning to get to CT. It was nice to go indoors in some much needed AC and shade. They do have several tables indoors but not very big so if you have a large group, you may need to sit separately, stand or combine tables. They offer a wide selection of tasty cannoli's and since we had gotten several different ones, I can safely suggest these are a good choice! My favorite was the pistachio and the double chocolate. However, I would not recommend their coffee. First, the person who took my order told me they could not make a latte but essentially an Affigato.. I was slightly confused as a latte is just milk and espresso. Then he sounded annoyed when the barista told him we can make it. It was nearly $7 and it was NOT worth it. The coffee tasted burnt and it wasn't just me. Several of my friends also got coffee and ended up throwing it out. While I did not see a sign, they also require that you purchase the stand along cookies per lb so this is not a good option if you're wanting a small treat. read more

Mid pastries and even worse staff. This place only exists because of Sally's and Pepe's. Staff is just a bunch of teenage girls who are too invested in their phones to take your order. They'll also shut the lights off 20 minutes before closing to kick you out rather than just talking to you like a normal person. I thought the cookies were good but very raspberry forward. Also the chocolate coating was a little messy. They tasted good though. The cannoli wasn't my favorite. Not sure how long it was sitting in their case already filled but the shell was not as crisp as I would have liked and while the filling and topping were both green I felt like it was not natural and not giving pistachio flavor at all. A great treat for a Friday. Who knew you could get Italian ice all year round? Well now I know where to get summer in a cup all year round. A scoop of Blue Raspberry, Watermelon and Lemon. Awesome!!! Getting some desserts is a nice treat after eating tons of pizza up the road. I bought a cappuccino cannoli and a cannoli-cannoli, $4 each. I really like the flavor of the cappuccino cannoli and the cannoli-cannoli tasted like your average cannoli, but slightly better. Unfortunately, the gelato was not gelato. It was not smooth or creamy at all and it tasted like ice cream with a little freezer burn. Between this and their competitor Lucibello's which is not too far down the road from them, Libby's wins, and it is not just because the name of this restaurant rings a personal bell to me. Cute girls boxing your baked goods, guys about as hilarious as they come, and a great selection of treats. They love their almond pastry, but that is what makes Italian baked goods so good. Everything here is fresh and served in big portions. I came dangerously close to robbing the entire store. That is how good everything was. The fact it is right near three solid pizzerias (Frank Pepe, Sally's, and Zeneli) makes it ideal to come here for a late night dessert and it is worth getting at every turn.
