One of my favorite Fort Wayne restaurants. The most recent owners really turned it around and made it truly respectable establishment. The French onion soup is to die for. Just the right amount of cheese, and served piping hot. Its a must every time I go. This time around I ordered the ribeye steak, which was seasoned and cooked well, but extremely fatty. Probably 40% fat. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Plus the owner George is always such a gracious host. I will definitely return, but I won't be ordering the steak. read more

This is a kitschy place with an expansive menu! There is all kinds of American paraphernalia on the walls and in the windows, everything from a large Statue of Liberty to American flags, muscle car show trophies and photos of classic celebrities like Frank Sinatra. Though it has its charms of being a bit of a dive, there's an undoubtedly dingy look to the place. Every booth seat was lumpy and had significant wear and tear, the larger tears were "mended" with neon green duct tape. The floor had some old stains, but didn't appear overall dirty. Every time I've come there, they seem to be thriving, perhaps they may consider redoing their booth upholstery soon. However being a 24 hour business probably doesn't make it easy to make these changes. The food was, overall, good. We went for breakfast (as is our want for Sunday mornings). I ordered the usual scrambled eggs and bacon and it came with hash (a bit soggy in the middle) and pancakes. The pancakes and eggs were a bit dry. The pancakes were nice and thick, however! The portions are generous and I was surprised to be given the option of pancakes or toast. Stephen ordered a Mediterranean scramble and that was very tasty with some hot sauce. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive as was the owner who rang us up. The total meal for two people cost just under $20. This is a place to which I'll return but it probably will be more out of convenience than a first choice. I do want to taste their lunch menu as I have heard some good things regarding their Greek food! read more

This place is super cute! The service is friendly and fast, and they have a huge menu selection. I ordered the London Broil and my bf got the Fish and Chips. The fries were by far the best part of the meal, but really everything was super tasty. We started with the calamari, which was very well done. What a pleasant experience. We were greeted and seated promptly in a comfortable booth. We even were able to watch TV with closed captioning-although we didn't. Our server, Lindsay, was very knowledgeable about the menu having worked there for 18 years. I enjoyed the 12 oz hamburger steak cooked as ordered. Judy had a wonderful omelette. Classic American-style diner, with added kitsch because it's on the Lincoln Highway. This place is relatively recent, not having been around since the 40's or anything, but it tries to match that whole ambiance and succeeds. The owners know what they're trying to be. The food is also solid diner fare. I had the lemon chicken soup and a patty melt, and my partner had a fried mushroom chicken dish. The soup surprised me with how fresh it tasted, it still had the bright sour tang of lemon with a little bit of the pulp even. The patty melt was spot-on to my expectations, and the fries were nicely seasoned. The fried chicken was beer-battered, so it was light and not heavy and greasy like one might expect from, well, a greasy spoon. The staff was attentive and it had a lot of local charm, including several bikers who dropped in, which probably is a regular occurrence during the summer months. They do have a rather large menu, but if you stay with the basic American-style (and Greek) fare, it's hard to go wrong since it's just basics prepared in different ways. Liberty Diner is SUCH a charming place! it's a bit out of the way compared to many other dinners, restaurants and pubs in the Coliseum area- but it's well worth the extra 5-10 minutes of driving! The menu is tremendously expansive, but what I have had here is more than worth the money- and judging by the diner's longevity and local awards, the majority of the menu is just as good as what I have tried. The breakfasts are to die for- large portions, cooked/baked/sauteed to my exact preferences. They have delightfully unique 'crunchy' french toast, amazing quiches and the best french onion soup I've ever had (get it with the melted cheese on top- that is a must!) I make trips from Huntington just for that soup. The service has always been pleasant and the vibe is good- not overly loud. Very charming. They could potentially clean up a bit and make some updates/fix some things, but overall not really a serious issue. read more

I was anxious to try Liberty Diner. Hostess was polite and delightful. We sat in a ripped up vinyl booth where the back kept falling off. I had the french onion soup which as way overly salty. I also had the cheeseburger wich was very good. As I sat and looked around at the unkeptness of the restaurant I began to worry about the cleanliness of the kitchen. The owner or manager spends so much time on upcharging everything that he needs to put some money into taking care of his business. When I went to pay I payed with my debit card and was charged a $4.50 charge for using that. I wont go back there. read more

What a pleasant surprise. I can tell you that I would not have stopped here by the way it looked on the outside and that it's by some hotels that I'd probably also never stop at. Now inside is 1980's New York City themed area still makes you wonder what you're in store for but after you're greeted by your server, you know you're ok. The menu is extensive and overwhelming because you can go so many directions. The staff and ownership are of Greek origin so I voted for a gyro wrap...I wasn't disappointed. It was fantastic. My friend got spulunka (or something like that) which was grilled skewered chicken over a lemony rice and a half plate massive amount of Greek salad with generous amounts of feta. The coffee was hot and good and free flowing. The portions are huge and the prices reasonable. On the way out I spied the baklava and asked if it was made in house and it is. I got a large piece of that to go. It had lots of gooey syrup and plenty of nuts. It was really sweet and delicious. A piece is $4.95 but it is large. Plenty for sharing. I'll go back for some crepes or French toast or more delicious Greek food. There's also an open faced Ruben and Cuban sandwich that sounded good. I came for the Avgolemono, Greek chicken lemon rice soup, which I crave whenever I'm sick, and I've sent family members to pick up containers of soup from Liberty Diner for takeout on several of those occasions. It is always amazing. I stayed for the delicious fries, the old school New York diner vibe, the amazing desserts, and the great service provided by Amy--one of the kindest and most effective waitresses I've encountered at any restaurant! Breakfast or a sandwich is definitely the way to go here. The Ruebens are fabulous. The grilled cheese is a real treat. The croissant sandwiches are yummy. The pancakes, waffles, and french toast are all amazing. Do yourself a favor and save room for dessert! The place could use a renovation, for sure, and some of the servers aren't that great. Also, the beverage refill policies are just STUPID. People expect unlimited pop or drip coffee. The owner should understand this and deal with it. If you're from the East Coast and you loved the diners there, eating here might be a little taste of home. read more

We came to liberty diner because a friend knew we are doing keto, and she has family who do keto and say they love going there. She said the portions are big. Have to admit I was very disappointed. I had the Mediterranean chicken special. The flavor was good, but the pieces were small and dry. Others in my group not doing keto said the carrots might as well been pureed they were so mushy, broccoli was the tough frozen kind. Almost every substitution was an upcharge. Also, drinks were $2.65 for a medium sized glass full of ice - and they charged the same for refills. Two people had less than the equivalent of two 20oz bottles for $10.60. I'm surprised they didn't charge for my water. On the plus side, our waitress recommended the restauraunt Storming Crab for good food - hopefully it is better than this place. read more

Probably my favorite diner in Ft. Wayne! The servers are very welcoming. Food comes out fairly quickly. You get a pretty good amount of delicious, fresh food for the price you pay, as well. Would highly recommend it! For breakfast any of their savory platters are my go-to's and for lunch/dinner, the chicken tender platter or Monte Cristo. Liberty is a family favorite. We go there reasonably often. It's where my wife and I had our first date, and we go there every time family's in town. They have a wide variety of American and Greek style foods, and some Italian to boot. In fact, I think there's some Mexican and Asian inspired dishes too. In other words, there's a little bit of everything you might expect to find in the Midwest. Their breakfast dishes are great! Everything, whether breakfast or otherwise, comes in large portions. I love diners, and this place is fantastic. I was in Ft. Wayne for work and decided to stop in for lunch after looking up places on Yelp. I ordered the lemon rice chicken soup and ricotta ravioli. Before any of my other food came out, my waitress brought out a basket of warm fresh bread, which was a nice start to the meal. The soup was interesting - never had lemon soup and it was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a thin watery soup, but it was thick and creamy. The lemon flavor was not overpowering. It wasn't my favorite, but I think many other people will like it. The ravioli was awesome. My server (who was extremely friendly, charming and nice - one of the best I have ever had), recommended getting it with mushrooms and red peppers, which I thought added a nice touch to the dish. It came with about nine large ravioli on top of a cream sauce and topped with a thick gooey layer of melted mozzarella (?) cheese. It was very rich and filling. I wanted to try a dessert which are displayed near the front of the diner, but I was stuffed. The menu is huge, the portions are very generous, prices are very fair, and the service was spectacular. My waitress made sure my soda was constantly full (I think I had four refills), and she kept making sure I didn't need anything (without being overbearing). The only minor drawback is that they don't accept American Express, which is my work credit card, but they do accept Discover, Visa, and maybe Mastercard. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stop by for another meal. read more

I'm a sucker for diners. When scouting out Ft Wayne for my boyfriend's upcoming move, we definitely had to check out a greasy spoon. Liberty did not disappoint. The decor was some of the campiest I've ever seen, with lots of American flags and Statue of Liberty iconography. Even better, though, was the food. The chicken lemon rice soup was great, the gyro somewhat different than the Coney-style you find in Michigan, but still good. The fries were hands down the best I've ever had at a diner, very crispy. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Fort Wayne. The food is great. I have dietary issues so they work around my needs. As good as the food is, the service is amazing. This is one of the few restaurants where I don't ask for a particular server. They are all great! There have been several comments about the menu. It is extensive. American, Greek, Italian, all good! I normally go for the low carb Santa Fe omelet. The salads are great. If you order the chef salad while George, the owner, is working get ready for a masterpiece! He will be the one building it! You may want to get a to go box before you get started on it. There is enough for two meals. Excellent. I love the Greek food they offer. The seasoning is delicious. Lemon chicken rice soup was not bad. Then for entree got "stuffed chicken". The outside was nice, crispy (I've bought stuffed chicken breasts at Meijer before and these probably came from there.) But unfortunately they tasted off, old? and then I look inside and pull out a slice of thin gray meat- hmmm what is that supposed to be? Ham? Wow, how old is this chicken? Gray ham. I asked waitress and she didn't disappoint. (Sarcasm) Seriously didn't care. No explanation no apology. Oh no, wait, she did reason that the cheese colored it but she didn't try to say what "it" was supposed to be. Really what is a frozen chicken breast usually stuffed with. The choices I've seen are ham (cordon bleu), broccoli or asparagus, all with cheese. I don't know what gray meat would be stuffed in a chicken breast- even if it was supposed to be turkey it was bad looking turkey and why would you stuff a chicken breast with turkey? Sad they couldn't just own up and say sorry for the bad chicken that was sitting in the back of the freezer we served you. read more
