The signage at this location is confusing and does not clearly indicate that the entire street is under their control. The signs only mention towing, yet my car was immobilized with a boot and I was forced to pay immediately to have it released. This mismatch between posted rules and actual enforcement is highly misleading and unfair. Drivers are caught off guard, pressured into instant payment, and given no real opportunity to question or resolve the situation. The combination of unclear property boundaries, inconsistent signage, and forced booting creates the impression of predatory and unethical practices designed to extract money from unsuspecting drivers. I have photos and documentation of both the signage and the incident. Anyone parking here should be extremely cautious -- the rules posted do not reflect actual enforcement, and you may be subjected to stress and financial pressure unexpectedly. read more

It's the only show in town (rv park) Yep, it's definitely not anything special; but where else can you stay in your own RV with less than a 30 minute ferry ride into Manhattan. The restrooms and washhouse are kept up nicely. The grounds are just a big parking lot with water and electricity. The staff were cordial and very knowledgeable about the ferries and metro. Nothing fancy, but it works well if you want to visit Manhattan while staying in your RV. It worked really well for us. read more

We loved our stay at Liberty Harbor RV Park. Initially we had chosen a spot out in the "D" row which was beautiful and secluded but the wi-fi was weak. I went into the office and the nicest lady named Lauren spent some time on the computer and found me a spot in the "B" row. Our original spot in D was asphalt and B is in pea gravel but that's ok. This is not a gorgeous RV park. It's more of a parking lot with power and water. But hey, the NYC skyline is looming large and the Statue of Liberty is within view too. You will use the community dump for your black water which is ok. The showers building is nice too. The manager here is Melony who does a great job running the operation. Lauren was very professional and knowledgeable and you can't hope for a more helpful crew. 24 hour security makes you feel safe too. I did not see any shady characters lurking anywhere in the week we spent here. I will stay again next time I travel across the country in my motorhome with the love of my life Tammy the Tornado! I'm so glad I met her almost 30 years ago. She's made my life a joy From the very day I met her. I love you baby, with all my heart! read more

Location Location!! This spot worked perfectly for us in our 40' RV. Walking distance to subway or ferry into NYC. We rode our bikes onto the ferry over to Ellis Island. Took the Varazzano Narrows bridge thru Staten Island and drove to the Hamptons for the weekend. Never hit much traffic!! Spent 2 days at the south shore beaches. Did a double decker on/off tour in NYC, rented jet skiis, went to the 102nd floor of the Empire State bldg, Took a rickshaw thru Central Park, Strawberry Fields, and a row boat. In Bayonne NJ we visited the 911 Teardrop memorial at 11pm in the rain when nobody was around. Ate in Little Italy and China town and Greenwich Village. Shopped on 5th Avenue & Macy's. The sites are close, security 24hrs, the dump site easy to pull up to. Will come back when the Broadway shows & concerts are open. read more

They change our date for October 2021! October 2021 we called them telling that US Borders are close. We cant make it. Better make sure your plans are set in stone or you don't have a death in your family like we did, this place will keep your whole deposit even when you cancel over 5 months in advance, they kept almost $350.00 if though they have 5 months to rebook this site, which I am sure they will. We had to cancel our whole family trip that was supposed to be all summer all across the USA. I literally cancelled 18 other RV places all across the country and they were the only ones that charged this much, all the other places charged between $10- $50 cancellation fee, most around $25, not mention I could not get them on the phone after many attempts, this was all done through email. Location location location...that is a given. But it also seems to give them permission to be less than comfortable to deal with regarding anything. The absolute worst customer service ever. Their ads for employees must ask: "Are you rude enough to join our team?" A little customer service training and appreciation can go a long way - but they wouldn't know. It's a very basic RV park - not much more than a parking lot with water and electric hookups. No sewer hookups but they do have a dump station. Bathrooms are very clean. They have a laundry but some of the machines eat your money sometimes; the office seems to handle that by giving you more quarters if you complain. But, the location is perfect if you want to visit New York City. It's right across the river from Manhattan. Apparently there's a ferry right next door that goes to the foot of Wall Street (I didn't take that). There's a subway to Manhattan (PATH train) a little over a half-mile away. There's also a light-rail station just a couple of blocks away that will take you to another PATH station (so you don't have to walk as far) or to a ferry that goes to midtown (the ferry is much nicer than the subway). Price is much higher than most RV parks but I guess it's much lower than a hotel in the area. I've never before seen an RV park where you could look up at tall buildings. I would come here again if I wanted to go to NYC again. read more

First, I understand this is URBAN camping and not out in the woods - I get that. Still no excuse for the BS we went through on our 2 nights there. The campground is the most compact I have ever been to. I was not able to put out my outdoor carper - had to put over half of it under the rig. It was Columbus Day Weekend and so we were charged 'Holiday' rates of over $100 a day with tax. The only thing is no one told the neighbors there was a holiday. The adjoining construction site was in full swing before 7:00 a.m. - Cranes, Cement Tucks, Jack Hammers and who knows what else they use to build a new high rise over our heads. No one told all of the commuters who started filling up the adjoining park and ride parking lot(for the ferry), on the other side of the postage stamp "RV Park' that it was a holiday - to be honest, not sure who made more noise or was more disturbing. But that's not the worst of it - the security was awful. When you check in, they give you this very expensive full color presentation folder with lots of tourist info in and on it, including a business card for the "24 hour" security card, that has a Cell Number printed on it. When we came back to the site the first night, the security booth was manned - but that was the last time I ever saw any one there. Long story short, there were 4 RV's parked around me who were traveling together - they must have been out late, because there campground party didn't start until after 1:00 a.m. - right under the pop-out of my bedroom. Before getting anyone else involved, I went out and asked them to take the party inside - they refused and the conversation continued to sound like it was in my bedroom, - So, now, I call the Cell Phone - and no one answers and the VM is full - WORTHLESS.. Wanting some satisfaction, I left a VM at the main number of the campground - I thought, just MAYBE someone with a sense of customer service would have called and apologized - thinking they at least thought this was a high end establishment (as their rates suggest) - NOT. There is not any sewer hookups - but there is a very nasty dump station where water peculates out of the ground - ugggh. There is no cable TV and all we could pick up off the air was 7 channels - no networks and nothing very interesting either. Yes, I suppose their claim to being the closest RV park to NYC is true - and I'm sure the land is extremely valuable - but come on - this pace is a ghetto and should be avoided. read more

The good: The main thing going for this park is the location. I felt fairly secure for being such an urban location. The Bad: Bathrooms: had no AC. 90 degree day. Smelled like cat pee. Only one (of 4) stalls had toilet paper. Gaping holes in ceiling. Electric Hookup: Only had 97volts at outlet (in corner of campground), even at night, so using the AC in the trailer was not an option. No easy way for a later check-out. Can pay $40 (and move to a "dry" lot that day. But can't arrange for it in advance. Must do it day-of, but the office does not open until 9am. If you need to leave before that, but need to leave the trailer, you are SOL. Surf City: I went there at 4pm and a bouncer checked my ID (I'm 43). Gives you a flavor for the kind of place it is... WiFi: Barely functional. All this being said, I really did like the novelty of camping within sight of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. Within a 5-minute walk, there were fabulous views of Manhattan, and there were some great restaurants. within a quick walk. read more

My family was supposed to take an rv trip from California to DC and New York this summer. I already reserved this campground and they won't refund our 50% deposit which is $250. They say they will reschedule us but the traveling has to occur in 2020, that's not possible with my family or job as a teacher. I know in the grand scheme the $250 isn't much compared to what others are dealing with, but it's the ethics of this campground that are sub-par. They have reservations up to three years in advance on their website but I have to travel within 2020?!?! read more

I reserved a dry spot for 6 days and when I arrived, I needed to shorten it due to another RV spot being avail elsewhere. They charged my 50% deposit during when I made the reservation, and they said I would be responsible for 50% for the days I am cancelling. So I reluctantly shaved off 1 day and paid the one day 50% penalty. Then I saw some people connected their power cable at the dry site, a 15 amp circuit and they said since they saw that I was plugged in during the inspection, they would have to charge me extra $25.05. Again, reluctantly agreed. The facility; not well kept and fairly run down, and when it rained, the spot we were parked at were flooding, and potential shock hazard. Only good thing about this place is that Manhattan is close via one ferry ride across but that's about it. But then you have to worry about poor service on the ferry; that's a whole another story. Traffic from/to any place via car is a hassle, lots of traffic and the after immediate surrounding area is not pretty, it's definitely the arm pit of New Jersey. If you could avoid this place, I would, there are much better places nearby for less money and hassle. read more

In my 30-something years of camping, this is the worst place I've ever stayed. I would encourage anyone reading this to not support this business. Even worse than the conditions of the park is the staff's attitudes. They don't even attempt to go out of their way to resolve issues. It doesn't take much to run an RV park. Power, water, sewer, and maybe wifi and TV. If you're in an RV, you're pretty much self-contained. Which is why it's hysterical to me that a place like Liberty Harbor RV Park manages to slide in with an average rating of 2.5 stars. This should be a walk in the park! Those who gave it higher ratings than that simply weren't here long enough to learn the true colors of this place. Here are the highlights: 1. $95/night is over double what most parks charge, and here you ONLY get power and water. 2. Dump tank is buried in the corner of the lot. If your tanks are in the front of your trailer, it's physically impossible to get close enough to dump. 3. If you can't reach the dump tank, you have to pay $20 for them to come out to your camp site and dump for you. 4. Many people don't want to pay to dump, nor move their RV, so you end up with gray water all over the ground because people dump their tanks in place. If you're staying more than a week, LHRV should provide a complimentary "honey wagon" service, if only to keep this place sanitary, as their is gray water being dumped by various campers on a daily basis and spills over into neighboring campsites. 5. They claim to have an on-site bar and grill. But they fail to mention it's only open daily through summer months, then weekends only for a little while, then closed entirely in September. False advertising. 6. You have to "check out" or you get charged $40. "Checking out" consists of walking into the office and signing a check out sheet. That's it. No reconciling your account, no nothing. Just a pathetic excuse to be able to charge people for not following their process. (If you leave early in the AM before the office opens, and haven't previously arranged checking out, yeah, you're getting charged.) 7. Wifi is slower than a 56K modem most times, especially in evenings when everyone is online. It's essentially unusable. (And somehow, Verizon doesn't work much better here, so this is pretty much a dead zone.) 8. TV antennas somehow don't pick up ABC, NBC, CBS or FOX, despite being about 1 mile away from NYC the way the crow flies. 9. There were cigarette butts all over our site, upon arrival, despite security walking around with a broom from time to time. 10. Security harassed me about a light bar on my truck, saying NJ might have an issue with it. 11. But worst of all is when Ynez, the main lady in charge, essentially accused me of lying with regards to my tanks not getting dumped properly. I paid $20, was gone when they came out to dump, and came back that night to 2 full blank tanks, and a gray tank that had only gone down 1/3. Assuming they hadn't come to dump, and the tank level was just fluctuating, I took a picture of the levels. The next day, I followed up to see when they were coming by to dump and was told they already had. Two days later, I emailed a photo of the levels to prove that the service wasn't completed properly. Ynez had the gall to say that because I emailed two days later, that there was no way to prove the photo was taken two days previously. (I tried to explain to her that meta data in the photo would show that I took it two days before.) But REGARDLESS of all of this, the conversation should have ended at: If the levels showed the tanks weren't empty, they should come out to redo the service. (See also a review from 9/13/2017 from Denise A., explaining the EXACT same thing happening to her, and having to dispute the charge with her credit card company, known as a chargeback.) Ynez refused to send out the honey wagon again, saying she'd get in trouble from her manager if she gave away a "free" service and that I'd have to pay again for them to come out. I told her that's fine, but that I'd have to perform a chargeback on the service that wasn't completed. The response was something along the lines of, "What, so Amex is going to decide if we did our job?" The funny part is that on our day of check-in, I observed a pile of paperwork that was chargebacks filed against them, along with their written responses to be sent to credit card companies. I sincerely hope their ratio of charges to chargebacks reaches the point where they end up paying a higher rate of credit card fees because of how much of a scam this place is. As another reviewer pointed out, it they tried to make even a marginal improvement at this location, they'd do infinitely better in feedback. The problem is, when you're the only game in town, you can charge whatever you want and people reading these reviews don't have much choice aside from lowering their expectations and still booking this place. Ok look. You don't stay here to the amenities. It's proximity to Manhattan is killer. Super simple walk to the Path station. Close to the ferry too we heard but the city was in some sort of "unable to reach a budget" dispute and the ferries and parks (in NJ) were closed. The bath facilities were sufficient. I found the staff to be nice. Make sure to note there is only a central dump station some come prepared for that. Bonus's - Location, location, location. Owh and there is a great restaurant/bar adjacent (Surf City). Fantastic lobster rolls and bar. Meh's - our poor dog had a hellava time finding a place to"go." No green space at all. I do feel the owners could spruce it up a bit. read more

Do not stay here. We have traveled across the United States and this is by far the worst place we have ever stayed. Pulled in our site and ran over a screw, so now we have a flat tire. The staff is absolutely horrible and it seems as if they are on a mission to charge you for everything. They say the sites are 18 feet wide, not true, ours was only 14'. If you're slides hang over, they charge you. If your vehicle does not fit cross the front of your site, they charge you. If you have a trailer and it does not fit within the lines, $75 per night for storage. Again, the staff is very rude and we have never been treated so poorly by anyone else, anywhere. DO NOT go there if you have any other option! Worst RV parks ever been. Try to avoid coming to NYC with an RV, because it's a pain in the neck and in the pocket. This RV park, during off season, is probably the only monopoly option with RV near NYC. That's why they charge as high as $95+tax per night, for partial hook up. The less expensive option of Dry camping in not allowed, if the park not full. This is a gravel parking lot, rather than an RV park. It not well maintained, and not being cleaned enough, for example: Wi-fi: I called to ask in advance about it, because wi-fi is important to me, as much as water and utility. As opposed to the promise and as advertised, wi-fi was working on and off. When I complained 2-3 times, I was first suggested to move to a closer spot to the office building. Didn't help. Then I was told various excuses like: that they do know about wi-fi not be always on, or that they don't know what's the problem (hence it's mine) or that it's being offered as extra amenti with no commitment. Dump Station: is located at the lot's corner. Not enough room for long RV. Need to drive back. Muddy in a rainy day. Laundry Room: out of 6 machines - 3 were out of order. No signs. We wasted time and money with the other machines. Dryer didn't dry laundry after a full cycle. It seems that this room is being operated by a sub-contractor, thus they don't assume any responsibility for it. To add to all the above, the front desk staff, behaved in un-respectful manner to me. At the cost they charge, I would recommend checking one of the free parking + shuttle hotels, around Manhattan (NJ, Brooklyn and Quins). Highly recommend staying away from this RV Park! read more

Exploiting Covid19 reservations? We had our US trip cancelled because of Covid19, with all flights out of the UK effected, and had paid Liberty Harbour in full months ago for a site. Best Liberty Harbour could offer (after not replying to any emails) was pushing back the reservation to within 2020, totally unachievable for us, or a 50% refund. I get that these are stated in their terms and conditions, but come on the circumstances for everyone right now are unprecedented, unprecedented, so we just lost over $125. Point to note, KOA campgrounds we had booked with on our planned 5 week US tour (from Seattle through to Maine) ALL refunded our money in full. Hugely disappointing. Our vacation is postponed for a year until 2021, and we're rebooking with every KOA, but not here. Lousy people, very lousy. read more

Mens bathroom/showers are ok just need updated and doors on the showers ,they have curtains but i prefer doors for security. But its right next to a big boat harbor full of NICE boats $$$$. The other side of it is currently construction. The place is pretty much full, and nice and quiet. And the have a area just for tents which is pretty cool! I'm usually the person who reads reviews but rarely ever posts reviews. Sorry, I am bad like that. But this place is bad enough that I felt compelled to warn others. As others have said, the location is very convenient to NYC. Great view of Statue of Liberty and close to public transportation. But that is why they got the one star rating from me. We tried to get the water/electric hookup but I guess two weeks notice wasn't enough lead time. Had we gotten the W/E hookups, maybe we would have gone to 2 stars. So we decided we would be self sufficient and just use their "dry camping" area. After all, we have generators and water tanks and can stay off the grid for 3-4 days. I guess to Liberty Harbor, "dry camping" means parking your camper in a shipyard... Old boats, junk piles, and construction equipment. But we are all about the adventure, so we thought we could make it work. Since "quiet time" is between 11p to 8a we had to shut down generators and open windows. It is an active yard, so people were continuously walking around, working on their boats, big construction equipment moving around etc. There is also a parking lot for the ferry next door so people were loud when they got back from NY late in to the night. Quiet time was definitely not quiet. As for the staff, they couldn't be any less helpful. They could care less about their customers and whether they enjoyed their visit or not. It sort of felt like a Jersey scam where they take your money and *literally* send you to the shipyard. All they could say in their smug voice when I raised my concerns about what dry camping meant to them was "no refunds." If you can get the w/e hookups, maybe it is worth it. If not, avoid this actual dump at all costs. read more

When we were driving through the city while in route my initial thoughts of the surroundings was that I was making a big mistake. Once we turned off the main st to the RV park it went from a congested city to one that reminded me of Newport, RI. We can see huge private boats mooring and leaving the harbor. The view of Ellis Island and the the back of the Statue of Liberty was awesome. It's not a pretty lot, it serves a purpose of water/electric but the views of the NYC skyline are incredible. The bathrooms were clean and the staff were accommodating. This is not a typical camping site as it's devoid of grass and tress etc... but allows access to NYC, a 10 min walk to the Grove St Path train station is what clinches this place for us. $2.75 trip and in 20 min you're on 34th st (Macy's) or the WTC site. No hassles with parking! The Grove St station is quiet with lots of small shops and restaurants more importantly a Starbucks as well. You can also walk a few hundred yards and take the ferry for $7 which crosses the Hudson and leaves you near the Stanten Island Ferry. For it's location it is quiet, also Delivery.com allowed us to order Chinese food which was brought to our Trailer. read more

When making your route do not follow your GPS, look up the Liberty Harbor RV tour YouTube videos from previous critics visits. They will provide the easiest and best route to here for your rig. Well, it is exactly how it looks in the pictures. This is a parking lot. The bathrooms and showers are clean. We were parked in the B row so electrical was fine. There is a dump station as the site do not have grey or black water hookup. Per talking with the staff, if needing reliable electricity reserve a spot in row A or B as the other rows can have issues at time. The security guards have to keep flipping the breaker as so many sites are using electricity for AC and cooking. You are not allowed to have a fire. Yes, you can see the statue from the campgrounds near the entrance. Overall, the staff are friendly and helpful. They gave us so much information and answered all of our crazy questions. If doing the Statue of Liberty/ Ellis island tour, book way in advance at the New Jersey location for an early in the day time. We did 9 am and it was not too busy. This is the fastest and least crowded location for the tours. It is just a drive up the road to get to liberty park and $7 for parking. The train into New York is walking distance from the campground. It was a fun time even in the heat wave. Recommend this campground for visiting New York and it's wonders. read more

This location deserves a zero. The location isn't worth the price and the high deposit is too risky. I've stayed here several times and put up with noise and rudeness; but my last reservation I regret making. I booked for several days and had to pay a several hundred dollar reservation (50% deposit). Wow! 5 star Hotel in NYC never request more than a nights deposit. I needed unforeseen back surgery was not able to stay as scheduled. I gave over a two month notice- so I'm sure the original dated site was re-booked at no loss to the owner. I was allowed to move my stay and apply the reservation deposit to the new stay date. I subsequently required another unforeseen surgery; which made a trip impossible on the new reservation date. I requested but was not allowed to reapply my several hundred dollar deposit to a reservation date further out in 2020. I offered to provide medical certification of my temporary situation. I requested dates when in the winter 2020 when the place is nearly empty, which should have not been too difficult to accommodate. I asked to speak with the manager, but was told "Why? you will get the same response." With minutes of ending my call to discuss my situation; my reservation was canceled. I received an invoice which noted my reservation deposit of several hundred dollars was applied to a "cancellation fee". I"m now out several hundred dollars. This is the worst rip off I think I've ever experienced. Basically, other reviews are correct. This is a parking lot (lots of gravel) with run down facilities. We stayed here for 4 nights in the dry camping area. It's really a boat storage yard that they allow you to park in. That was fine by us, we found a space way in the back where we wouldn't be close to anyone. So long as you are OK without hook ups, it was perfect. Just make sure you have flip flops because it is all gravel. Knowing what I am getting into, I would surely go back due to how close you are to the city. One bad thing tho. I wish I would have read the reviews more serious. MAKE SURE YOU PERSONALLY CHECK OUT !! We left at 5:30 AM and I got a call at 11 that I was being charged $40 for not checking out. That is TOTAL BULLSHIT !! If I wasn't checking out I would have paid another night !! When we were there the office was super nice and helpful, but when I argued about the fee, she hung up on me. This place is the only RV park available to stay at within 2 hours of NYC & they take full advantage of that fact. It is basically just a run-down parking lot, there is hardly enough room to put your RV plus a vehicle in their spaces (then they want to charge you $20 per day to park if you can't fit it in), the bathrooms are disgusting (black mold in the showers & they want you to throw your toilet paper in the trash instead of flushing it down the toilet), there are no sewage drains at any of the sites, they turned off the water at the sites in the winter with no notice to us, it is very expensive ($2,000+ a month to stay here), half of the washers in the laundry don't work (costs $10 to do 2 loads there), and the staff doesn't really care about their customers b/c they know that you have no other options. The only good things about this RV park are not anything to do with the RV park itself, ie: the views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, & Manhattan. Plus, Jersey City is a great walking city with many restaurants & access to the PATH which will have you in Manhattan in 10 minutes. One might think that because they are the only RV park close to NYC & they charge an arm & leg to stay there that they would have the nicest RV park around, but sadly NO, they don't. Definitely an Urban Experience! We knew coming in that this would be a parking lot so our expectations were not high BUT it was not as bad as we thought. We had water and electric. Yes sites are tight but we had more than enough space for slides and an awning. but we did not come for the camping experience. 15 min walk to subway into NYC. Ferry into NYC is located on the property if you don't want to take the subway. Location is excellent for getting into NYC. If you follow the path along the water you can get beautiful nighttime skyline views of NYC. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. She explained everything right upfront about parking and checking out! So make sure you listen when she gives you the rundown or it will cost you $40 bucks if you don't sign out! We booked with family and our sites all got moved (there site does say they can move anybody no matter when/where you booked), but she worked it out and was able to put us next to each other. Laundry facility looked nice, we did not use but cost is $3.00 to wash and $3.00 to dry. Bathhouse are kept locked so you are given a code. Bathrooms were decent, better than some I've seen but showers themselves need to be cleaned better but water was hot and unlimited. Not something I need to do again but glad it was an option close enough to the city, with many options for transportation to get into the city. read more

I would rate this a one, but I have to keep in mind the location. Close to the PATH subway system. A view of the statue of liberty. The good: close to the PATH subway and views of the statue of liberty. The office staff are friendly and helpful. On site washer and dryer. $3.00 for washing and $2.50 for drying. The bad: for an RV park its overpriced, crowded and they will nickel and dime you. The restroom/showers are in need of an update. Maybe a better ventilation system. The mens showers (6) always had at least one broken. The toilets (5) were in the same boat. Be sure to bring toilet paper with you many time the stalls were without any. Thy do try to keep the bathrooms clean. The cleaning lady shows up at 9pm and closes either the men's or woman's bathrooms for an hour each. No other bathrooms are available. They say you can use the office bathrooms. When I went up they referred me to a port a potty. There is a line each morning for the one dump station. They offer a pump out service. We took advantage of it. You have to make an appointment. It is the same price regardless of the size of your trailer or holding tanks. Like I said its close to the subway system and most people are not spending their time at the RV park. They have a monopoly and can charge for it. Also when you make a reservation, they charge 50% upfront and is non refundable. The WiFi sucks depending where you are located in the park. Walking around I only saw two antennas. They give you a password. I could only get service when I was outside near the street. We had a stall in the middle of the park. I am sure if you have a stall near the antenna it would be fine. read more
