Great little ice cream shop down the road from our home. Great tasting dairy treats. The service is good, always met with a friendly smile. Ambiance is what is expected for a no dine in ice cream shop. Check this place out!

    Giffords!!!

I love the location, staff and the selection. I have been following Lib's on Instagram for quite a while and have driven by for about 3 years now and just never had the "room" to stop and eat ice cream. Recently in my mourning the end of summer, I stopped and am so glad that I did! Staff - they are so friendly and fun, like the seem like they would be, based on their social media presence. They work quickly to answer questions, take orders and fulfill orders. The portions are decent as well :) YUM! Location, they are located on an "island" and you have to be sure you plan your approach carefully or you may miss your turn. There is plenty of parking and picnic table seating. Selection - plenty of options for everyone! my go-to will always be Giffords, I may shake up the vessel in which it is served, but always Giffords (or Dole Whip) ....Ok, I'm open to all of their options. I'm still trying to time it where they have the Tony Donut stuffer - they sell out quickly. I recommend this location for this area, it is the best option in my opinion :)

Located near the intersection where Shaw's, Dunkin, and the bank are located. Generally cash only, but given the COVID-19 situation, they are also accepting cash apps like Venmo, which is very convenient! There is also plenty of parking and some picnic tables. You order from an outside window and the worker there was displaying very clean sanitation practices like wearing her own mask and swapping out new gloves frequently. Getting ice cream here is always a treat!

Saw this place while driving by and had to stop. First things first, Customer service was ok. Let's start on that, I say that because I don't think they were that friendly. I wasn't a fan of the chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream sandwich. They didn't have a variety of selections for the ice cream in between the sand which. The cookie was too hard, and had too much bite. Nothing else for me to say, maybe the experience would be better next time if we stick to the basics, waffle cone, hard serve, soft serve etc. To my seniors citizens, this may not be your best choice.. you may lose your dentures this mug hard than a b****

If you ever think back to the old days of playing SimCity in school what was required to have a successful town? Police? Firehouse? Water pumps? Making sure to fix roads? Not putting residential right next to heavy commercial properties? Alien invasions? Floods? Well in my SimCity it is required to have a neighborhood ice cream joint. How can you have a thriving happy population without it? Lib's Dairy Treats is the a North Deering institution. With plenty of flavors and combinations one really cannot go wrong with any of their options. Some of my favorite items are the just a plain vanilla in a chocolate dip or their version of a blizzard. Last time I went it was S'more with huge chunks of marshmallow, graham cracker and chocolate pieces in a large Dixie cup. Summer hours are open until 9:00 PM. Just keep sure to bring CASH (Money). Check out this landmark spot

I am an equal opportunity ice cream enthusiast - gelato, hard ice cream, soft serve, frozen yogurt - I will eat them all. Soft serve is generally my least favorite, however, and I have to say Lib's is tops. Their flavors rotate, which leaves room for pleasant surprise (or disappointment...) when you arrive at the window. We go here for the ice cream, not the experience. There are limited places to sit and it's situated on a busier road, but we're happy to stand in the parking lot and enjoy a cone any night of the week. I feel very content with swirled soft serve and a hard-shell chocolate dip of goodness, but the arctic blasts seem to be very popular (and gigantic). The folks working there are always lovely and efficient. We've developed a questionable habit of going before dinner because we're adults and we can spoil our appetite if we want to, and because the lines are short then.

First time here! There is a lot of parking spqve, unfortunately not a lot of sitting place. The staff is really friendly. Great to see kids and animals on a warm spring day. There were not a lot of options of flavors but I got the chocolate and vanilla swirl with butterscott dip. I could hardly taste the butterscotch but overall it was a great soft serve ice cream.

Libs is historic Portland. In operation for over 50 years is a long time! Cash only. Full disclosure: They do serve Gifford's hard serve ice cream. One of my favorite brands however, Libs is known for their soft serve offerings. Not my favorite. On their social media they posted a pistachio & raspberry dole swirl cone. I raced over for dairy free raspberry dole. So sweet & delicious. Truthfully, I know I'm just consuming cold sugar but I love it. The female attendant not friendly at all. Price is mediocre. If I wanted hard serve ice cream cone this would not be my chosen location but glad I stopped for a raspberry dole.

Libs is now open for the season! They are open 12pm-7pm, 7 days a week. We made our first trip of the season and were not disappointed. When coming to Lib's, you are guaranteed to get really good soft serve ice cream. Their flavors seem to be on some type of rotation, except the classic vanilla and chocolate. Peanut butter is usually available for a 3 month period and during that time, we are frequent fliers. It is one of the best around! We can't get enough. When peanut butter isn't available let me suggest this dish...chocolate soft serve with peanut butter sauce (so amazing) and whipped cream. The menu is quite large for the ways in which you can have your ice cream served, but they usually have about 5-8 options of flavors per day. You can order a plain cone, a sundae, a Tony's donut sundae, milkshake, toppings, or blizzards. When the weather is nice, they have a few tables you can sit at to enjoy your ice cream. As for today's visit, those tables were covered in snow, so we enjoyed it in our car. You really can't go wrong here! Friendly reminder: This is a cash only establishment.

Don't be fooled by the appearance! Their soft serve is DElish! I went for my first visit with a few friends, and we were all pleased. Their sundaes looked great, I got a twist with a toasted coconut dip... Yum! They also have slushies for your vegan/ dairy free friends. The staff were young, but friendly, fast and attentive. I was impressed with the number of people there on a Monday night - Lib's is clearly a local hot spot! They've got plenty of parking, too. It's not the most convenient location, but it you're running errands or out that way, it is worth a visit! Remember cash - if you forget there is an ATM across the street.

    Tiramisu in a waffle cone!
    Christa W.

The signage out front may look like it's from another era, but don't be fooled! If you like soft serve ice cream, this is the place to be! It's an institution in North Deering and rightly so. There are usually a handful of daily soft serve flavors including the regular vanilla and chocolate, but they also add in some that will smack you upside the head with their deliciousness. The past two times I've visited, I had tiramisu and black raspberry. Both amazing! I'm a purist at heart, so I prefer to let my ice cream be free and not dipped in a hard shell of goodness. How they dip it is a mystery to me but I believe it defies the laws of gravity and physics. How does the ice cream stay in the cone when you turn it upside down!?! Inquiring minds want to know! While I may be a purist, I also despise traditional cones with a passion, so I'm glad Lib's has a waffle cone option. When you choose a waffle cone, there is only one size and one price. You'll get a very generous serving for your money. If the small number of soft serve flavors have got you down, you can always try one of their arctic blasts (basically their version of a blizzard). Vanilla soft serve and your choice of at least twenty different options of toppings. There will probably be a line on the weekends or right before they close as people scramble to get a cone before they shut the blinds. Also, remember to bring cash because they don't accept anything else. All the hip kids go to Lib's, you should try it out too!

Too expensive, long waits, and they got rid of the Sticky Ricky! Still it's my neighborhood scoop shop so ‍ it's fine.

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!

After having some of the bread prior to our meals at a few restaurants, we found out the bread is locally sourced at a sister business right around the corner from where ate the night before. There is parking avail for customers in the lot for 30 mins, we prob waited about 20 mins and crossed the threshold into baked goods heaven. There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.
