The ice cream was ok, quick service you go up and pixn your flavors and we got one of the flights to try more flavors. I've gotten flights other places with bigger portions and not as expensive, but I didn't really care for the ice cream. It was edible but I wouldn't recommend it or get ot again.

Super busy... Everyone tip well please

This is probably one of the most flavorful ice cream places I have had in a long while. Many options too choose from but they do have unique ones that I have not seen/tried in any other places. First off... Shout out to the 2 lovely young ladies running the place on a busy Saturday night. I really hope everyone tipped them well cause they were hustling and bustling in there non stop. The first unique flavor: almond butter flavor. I love the subtle taste with occasional burst of flavor of caramel and almonds as you keep eating it. I love flavors like this where it isn't in your face. Second unique flavor: coffee Oreo. Do you like coffee? How about Oreo? Then why not combine the two?! This one is a bit more intense but also balanced. Small shop located in Portland City; it'll be a good spot to just get ice cream to go.

Upon entering, the place smelled amazing! It smelled of waffles and syrup. There was a long line but it went by quickly. We got one scoop for $5 and it was a pretty good size. I thought it was very cool that they made their own cones right at the shop as well. There was also a good selection of flavors and a section for sorbet and non dairy items.

Watermelon is so fresh and different! My daughter is so happy with her strawberry &raspberry flavor.

Fantastic ice cream that's worth the wait! I had the banana split with Maine blueberry, strawberry, and chocolate. Hands down the best I've ever had. The girls working the counter were all very friendly and genuinely happy. Definitely stop in on your visit. This is the best shop in Portland!

This is kinda your average ice cream shop. The staff were really nice to allow us to try ice cream. I got Oreo dough in kiddie size which i was looking forward to because I'm a cookie dough fan but sadly there were only 2-3 cookie dough pieces in there. It essentially was chocolate cake pieces mixed into vanilla ice cream so kind of disappointing. My partner got the blueberry ice cream which was actually true to taste! A creamy wild blueberry flavor that isn't overbearing. I'm not sure I would return as there were other ice cream places in the area to try.

    Sign out front :)

Not the best ice cream I've ever had, but friendly service and the ice cream was still yummy. My girlfriend got coffee Oreo (or something like that?) and I got maple walnut. The inside is very spacious which I liked (lots of places in Portland feel pretty cramped and packed but not this place) and we didn't have to wait in line for too long.

Great service and flavors of ice cream. Blueberry was absolutely delicious! The line moves quick and they are well organized

This was such a disappointing ice cream shop. I'm always so excited to try out new ice cream places and it looked liked plenty of people were coming from here (maybe there was a better ice cream shop elsewhere tho), so we decided to try it out when walking by. I got 2 scoops, strawberry and cookies & cream. The strawberry was extremely artificial and had no taste with huge chunks of actual strawberry in them. The cookies & cream I got was probably not even real ice cream and it was contaminated with orange sherbet because they didn't wash their scoopers in between orders. I would not recommend this place and would rather have kept walking to another ice cream place within the area.

Beal's is legit. They have tons of flavors and the ones I sampled were good! This ice cream seems to tend on the creamier side, which I like, but isn't anywhere close to custard. The place is quite big for a downtown ice cream shoppe and there are a couple picnic tables and a dog park. The amount of flavors can be overwhelming, with a good cover of all the traditional flavors. I, however, had the blueberry topped pistachio. The blueberry had real blueberries and the pistachio had real whole pistachios. All this in a sugar cone was pretty expensive at about less than 5 bucks, but the scoops are huge and it was essentially my dinner. Wouldn't mind coming back again!

Gross Confection recently announced on social media they would be shutting down the bar/desserts service while remaining open as a bakery. My wife and I came here many a times for an end cap to the night for one last drink and delicious and beautifully made desserts. From times in their dimly lit space that gave off romantic vibes or even enjoying our desserts in the summer sun outside people watching, every time will be remembered. Timing worked out well and we were doing a staycation in Portland and knew we needed to add a stop here one last time. Thankfully we got our names in on the waiting list early enough Friday and got sat as one of the last tables. We each had one last phenomenal drink; my wife and Apricot 75 that had a great tart kick of apricot and lemon. While I enjoyed their Chai Fashioned which spelt like a chai but had that boozy bourbon warming you'd expect. Dessert wise everything sounded good as always but we settled on two. The Goat Cheesecake and Pineapple Cake. The cheesecake was the perfect sweetness without being cloying and the blueberry sorbet on top paired so well. The pineapple cake was moist and tasted so good we needed to scrap the plate clean. I'm sad that Portland is losing this amazing dessert space but glad it's not a complete goodbye since they'll operate the bakery still! If you somehow read this today and have the chance make it in for one last visit tonight before they close their doors!

It's been a long while since I have been here. Way back during pre-pandemic times during a Maine Beer Week. I really enjoyed it and would have likely given 5 stars had I reviewed back then. Maybe that is just me wearing rose colored glasses and thinking more positively than it was though. They have since expanded to have more food offerings than just cake and more drink options than just beer. I do believe it's an improvement to have more options and was a smart business move! This stop in the vibe just didn't feel the same leaning towards a negative way unfortunately. I was excited to give their cocktails a try and my wife got their French 75 while I got their Pickletini because I love pickles so why not! I suspect due to how similar the drinks are, the bartender garnished the wrong drink with the pickles so that was a bit off initially for the French 75. It was a simple fix though. So overall, I still appreciate the decor and ambiance despite the vibe being a little weaker now in my opinion. I would return to give their food a try and do believe it's a solid option for a bar especially if you want to avoid wharf street.

There was so much to select from - we got pastries, cookies, pizza and bread - and we pretty much liked everything. Our least favorite was the morning bun with walnuts - we didn't have it right away so that might've been part of the issue. Just note that the bread served at the restaurants aren't available until 2pm - we were leaving that morning so we weren't going wait for it. We opted for other loaves instead and they didn't disappoint. If you want something yummy and fresh - make sure to stop by here before heading out of Portland. I do wish the setup was a bit more conducive to the big crowds as there isn't much space from the front door to the counter but still a fantastic find!

When I got in, I saw the flavors listed on the board and tried a few samples served on a metal spoon. Since I was in Maine, I had to try the two blueberry flavors. The Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp Gelato is comprised of wild blueberries intersected with a sweet and crunchy oat streusel covering and kissed by a scoop of vanilla. It was so yummy! The small dish was $6.35 each and it includes a Maine restaurant tax. The next day, during the Portland: Old Port Culinary Walking Tour on Sunday, June 14, 2026, our last stop was The Gelato Fiasco. Gofres are these smaller, sweeter, denser waffles that taste delicious with either a drizzle of caramel OR a drizzle of vanilla icing (like what you get on top of cinnamon rolls). I had gofres every day walking to Parque Marítimo. I haven't had ANYTHING like it since coming back to the States, and that's been over a decade now. Segue... The Marshmallow Cart is just fun. Good, old fashioned, fun. It's good for kids. It's good for drunken twenty-somethings outside of Fore Street bars. It's good for tourists. It's good for those of us with a sweet tooth who need a fix but don't want to spend a lot of money. And it's good for those of us who like the idea of s'mores, but maybe don't want to purchase all the ingredients to make them ourselves, because... let's face it... there's always half a box of graham crackers leftover (and seriously, what does anyone ever do with those?). It's run by a staff of fun-loving folks. And they've got fire. So, basically, it appeals perfectly to most people's inner child. There's only two things that prevent me from giving The Marshmallow Cart full marks: 1. Marshmallows are typically made with gelatin. Gelatin is typically made from animal by-products (think bones, skin, and tendons). I don't know (but would update this in a heartbeat if I did) if The Marshmallow Cart makes their marshmallow's with gelatin or if they're vegetarian-friendly and use guar gum, agar agar, or pectin. That being said, as a vegetarian, I'm not exactly rushing to get back here for this particular product. 2. THE WAFFLES ARE DELICIOUS. They sooooooo remind me of my Spanish gofres, but... The Marshmallow Cart doesn't have icing for them. I think the only options are marshmallow or nutella. Allow me a Veruca Salt moment, if you will: I WANT ICING. AND I WANT IT NOW. I would come out of my way for this if it was available. Maybe I should just start carrying my own bottle of it around in my purse? The point... if you like marshmallows (and don't have a plant-based diet), s'mores, waffles (sans icing), fire, and smiling... The Marshmallow Cart will not disappoint.
