This gelato is to die for. Omg. I love the low lighting, chill vibe. Very clean. The workers welcomed us. They were so nice and patient while we looked. I got lavender honey and WOW. It was so delicious. I don't even know how to describe it. Unique and just overall pleasant. I'm genuinely sad I don't have time to visit again before I head home from vacation. This is a must see! They do have dairy free options as well

A friend recommended this spot to us and I'm so glad we stopped. This gelato was fantastic and one of the best frozen treats we've had this year. My husband and I shared: - Marscapone Pistachio Caramel - Italian Banana Pudding - Cake Batter All three flavors were incredible. They have so many awesome flavors and they let you sample as many as you want. I will stop by here every time I'm nearby. If you like ice cream and gelato, it's a must.

Small Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp gelato

After overheating at the un-air conditioned Elevenses next door, my friend and I were desperate to cool down. Gelato Fiasco to the rescue! I ordered a small of the Maine Wild Blueberry Crisp gelato. It was heavenly. Portions were generous. Service was quick - no line - and very friendly. Ambiance was comfortable (and cool!). Such a lovely experience in all.

Such a cool spot in a fun area of Brunswick! After getting dinner next door, we were about to head to the theater to see a show and decided to stop in here to get a pick-me-up so that we could stay awake. My favorite food in the world is hazelnut gelato (NOT nutella/chocolate hazelnut), so I was thrilled to see a hazelnut option! I ordered an affogato with hazelnut and it really hit the spot. The service was friendly and fast even though the place was super busy. I'm told this is a local chain so hope I will stumble upon it elsewhere in my Maine travels!

Stopped in last night after a walk around town for the 2nd Friday Art Walk. The vibe is authentic Italy. Crazy busy and yet, somehow organized. One server stayed with us from the time we walked in. We tried a couple samples - the blueberry crisp and espresso chip were both delicious. They've made over 1,500 flavors! It was ultimately Dorothy's Dream that won my heart. Cookie dough gelato with miniature chocolate kisses and bright red sprinkles. Celebrating MSMT's 2025 run of "Tootsie." Oh. My. Gosh. So delicious. A small was more than enough. My only wish is that there were more outside tables/chairs. ultimately went for

A stark difference from the last gelato place I went to! I absolutely loved this place--the gelato was delicious, they nicely let me sample every vegan flavor, and they were so kind.

    Yet more deliciousness.

We stopped twice during our week in nearby Harpswell, Maine. Great service, amazing variety of gelatos. Entering the shop the first point listed was that they encourage customers try as many complimentary samples. Wow. Our first visit I had the Dubai Chocolate - amazing and the mascapone and caramel - very good; Donna had the Plain Olde Peanutbutter and chocolate. Second visit I had the Chocolate Noir and Scicilian Pistachcio both were great! Donna had the Plain Olde Peanutbutter again and Chocolate Mousse. She loved them.

Best Gelato ever and so many incredible choices! I live in California and for me, Maine has the best ice cream shops but I never thought it would have the best gelato shop too! One of the servers told me they have 200 different gelato recipes that they rotate! The choices were dizzying (in a good way) and I tried so many flavors. Not only are their flavors unique but their prices are so reasonable and the place is so clean (including the bathroom). What I really loved is all the different sizes they have so if you only want a little you can get just a little and pay for that amount. In California they won't let you order the kid size and if you want a smaller size you still have to pay the amount of the bigger size. These guys really cater to making the customer happy. I sure wish they had a branch here in SoCal.

Always have to stop in when in the area. Since I live in Florida it's only once or twice a year. The coriander gelato is a must have! This trip I got the coriander, Maine Blueberry and the marscapone caramel pistachio. So good and the staff is the best!

Daily flavor of Sicilian pistachio, and lemon gelato

Fantastic. This place is located on Maine St. (the "Main Street" of Brunswick), has three? small tables outside to people watch while enjoying your treat. I first stopped in just to see what it was about: flavors they had, if the gelato is made locally, etc. Staff was friendly, offered as many samples as I wanted although I only took one: toasted coconut. Delish! All gelato is made in-house; they have a kitchen in the back. They feature a new flavor every Friday and this Friday's was a Sicilian pistachio. My plan was to stroll Maine St. then stop back by. When I returned, I chose a "medium" combo of the daily flavor and a refreshingly tart lemon in a waffle cone. I felt that the portions were generous and the price was fair for what I got and for the area: $8 which included a $1 tip. See pic.

Fantastic assortment of gelato. Well worth the drive. Very unique flavors. Don't get a large by yourself, you can't eat at all.

    Netflix and Chilled gelato
    Amelia S.

Visiting for the weekend and friend recommended this small shop in a cute downtown. Plenty of street parking. Very reasonably priced. Fast and efficient service. Seating outside. Just as good if not better than European gelato. The hazelnut is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Best flavor. The dark chocolate is super rich and intense. The Netflix and Chilled is a great combination of salted caramel, brownie, peanut butter cup and maybe magic. A little extra sweet but so fun and reminiscent of childhood. The waffle cone is fresh and only a small $.93 up charge. Totally worth it. No dog ice cream specific but the vanilla and cream flavors are safe per the staff.

    Maine blueberry crisp gelato (small)
    Katie N.

This place had tables full outside as I walked by so I had to stop in and check it out. I am glad I did! It has a cafe vibe inside, very dark walls but bright display cases. Tons of flavors of gelato and sorbet! Staff is happy to provide samples of flavors. I love that they use reusable spoons for their sampling spoons! Tons of indoor seating and good options outside too. The small size is quite generous so I am glad they also offer a "taste" size!

A small scoop of Blood Orange gelato - insanely delicious!!

Also during our decently long stay here the line never fully ended and the workers kept such a friendly vibe the entire time. It was such a thoughtful gesture, and we left with a great impression. We decided to check out the bar across the street, but it wasn't our vibe, so we called it a night and walked back to The Abbey. Their patio was empty and well lit so we decided to sit there while we waited for our Uber. Our server immediately came out and told us they were closed and that we couldn't sit on the patio, promptly closing the door and shutting the light out on us. While disappointing, we understood. The part that left such a bad taste in our mouths happened next. As a group of young women, we were standing outside when a group of loud, rowdy men across the street started making us uncomfortable. We genuinely felt unsafe. We went back inside and politely asked if we could wait indoors for our Uber, explaining that we didn't feel safe outside. Instead of showing any concern, the bartender looked at us and said, "Oh, that bachelorette party? No." The bar was still full of customers, and we weren't asking to order more drinks or stay all night. We simply wanted a safe place to wait a few minutes for our ride. After how warm and welcoming they had been earlier, the complete lack of compassion in that moment was shocking. Customer service isn't just about being friendly when you're serving drinks. It's also about treating people with basic human decency when they tell you they feel unsafe. Unfortunately, our final memory of The Abbey wasn't the complimentary champagne or the great service at the beginning of the night. It was realizing that, when it actually mattered, our safety wasn't important to them.

Luckily, there were only about five people ahead of us, and the line moved quickly. The person taking our order immediately made us feel welcome. Even with a busy morning crowd, they took their time with everyone and treated each customer like they were the only one there. That kind of genuine friendliness is something you don't forget. The atmosphere is unlike any coffee shop I've been to. Every wall has something different to look at, quirky artwork, funny signs, vintage pieces, random collectibles, a mannequin dressed in sunglasses and boots, even a life-size Tom Cruise hanging out on the patio. I found myself constantly looking around because there was something interesting in every direction. One of my favorite touches was the self-serve coffee station. You grab a mug from the wall instead of a paper cup. I picked one with a cool Abraham Lincoln wearing a backwards baseball cap while sipping coffee, which perfectly matched the café's fun personality. There were several coffee choices, and I ended up trying two. Refills are available for a small fee. For breakfast, I ordered one of their brioche breakfast sandwiches with the meat of the day, which was brisket. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the soft brioche bun. I also ordered a toasted jalapeño bagel with jalapeño shmear. It comes sprinkled with Tajín but got mine on the side. While I usually enjoy Tajín, it was just a little much for me first thing in the morning, so next time I'd ask for it without. The jalapeño shmear itself was delicious. After eating, we took our coffee outside to enjoy the patio. The colorful mural covering the building, beautiful flower pots, and relaxed seating made it a great place to sit and slow down for a while. Dog Bar Jim isn't just a place to grab breakfast, it's one of those places with real personality. Great food, excellent coffee, genuinely kind service, and an atmosphere that's fun, creative, and impossible to forget. If you're anywhere near Brunswick, it's absolutely worth the stop.

It's wasn't until I saw someone emerge from the double doors to the left of the roll-down that I realized that the business was open. Not that they need any help getting people inside (it was HOPPING) but a sandwich board outside perhaps would show that the business is open inside? I went in and immediately everyone was friendly and chipper. Ordering was simple enough but be prepared, they sell through some things, understandably as this place is very popular. I got an espresso and a toasted herb bagel with plain cream cheese. Ive been all over Bath, Brunswick, Rockland, and Camden and was convinced that the New Englander's palates were shot. Not a single business has served me a decent espresso. Not a single one until I stopped at Dutchman's. FINALLY a bright, clean shot that doesn't taste like someone put a cigar out in it. Everyone needs to take notes. THEN we get to the bagel....didn't think I was about to have the best bagel of my life, yet here I am. Light, toasted, slightly chewy but not heavy... jeez. Can we talk about the space? It's gorgeous. Airy, cool, industrial...but the people running it make it feel homey. We can talk about the restaurant they're putting in next door too but let's be realistic, if they use any of the blueprint they're currently operating off of, they're not going to have any issues (Omg the pizza oven!) The view alone will stop you in your tracks. I'm all in on Dutchman's. I bought the merch. My order was $17 for those two things, which is expensive, but the quality of the food and coffee was very good and I'd much rather give my money to this business than a large corporation like Starbucks. I saw another review give 3 stars because they are comparing their bagels to NY/NJ style bagels. I'm originally from NJ, and yes I prefer those style bagels, but that is NOT what Dutchman's is going for. She shouted out the answer to his question and he responded rather loud and rudely for her to "Next time come to the counter! I don't like yelling across the room!" (Or something to that extent) Whatever it was, it seemed really aggressive and unprofessional, not to mention disrespectful. The sandwiches were good, had fresh ingredients, but I'm not sure this place was throwing the right vibes for me to revisit.

Time to renew my review (last reviewed on 2/25/2012)…read more We continue to be thrilled with the quality and variety of donuts. Our favorites continue to the glazed twists, maple (any variety/frosted or unfrosted), blueberry(any variety/frosted or unfrosted), and of course the kids love the chocolate donut with chocolate frosting with rainbow or chocolate sprinkles. Service is quick and friendly. What's even better, they now have online ordering for pick up!! Now, if they run out of a donut or it's not available - they will substitute the closest possible. So if you are concerned about the substitute, you should order in person....with that there's even a greater risk no donuts will be available...I would rather order via that app, as I know I will get something! Parking can be annoying, especially if you don't like parallel parking or walking. But we don't mind at all for these delicious donuts! Place can get crowded. There are a few tables available to sit inside and sometimes a couple of chairs on the sidewalk. It's always neat and clean inside. I highly recommend!!!

Please note there are 2 breakfast menus- first breakfast and second breakfast so flip over the menu for lots of yummy options. You order at the counter. Lots of people pop in just for a coffee as well so the line moves quick. They had some yummy looking pastries including a large scone "sandwich" with red Currant jam and clotted cream. They give you a number for your food order and bring it to you, but you pick up your coffee at the counter. There were a few large groups there so they had seating to accommodate. A few outdoor tables as well. Some people pop in for the fun whimsical & magical decor - LOTR nods. So plan to take a lot of pictures. We had the Rapscallaion wrap - so yummy and poutine -added egg & corned beef hash. Both yummy. Will be a fun place to bring guests who visit. When you are done, You clear your own plates here, I think it wasn't clear as a large table left all their plates.

You order at counter and food is brought to your table. The food was delicious and portions were generous. Atmosphere keeps the conversation and eyes going. Very clever and fun. Even the dishware was fun. Second trip we decided to try the high tea service. A menu of assorted teas and a prefixed food menu. My daughter made reservations and prepaid for our lunch ahead of time. We discussed price point and we believed it to be $48 a couple because who goes to tea alone? Turns out it was $41 per person. This is steep for lunch especially considering what it includes. Tea, a tower of treats; this works out to be 2- half sandwiches each (chicken and cucumber and whipped feta) a very small egg salad on 2-3 bite croissant, a scone with fixings and about 2-3 quarter sized macarons per person. This is very not nearly as generous as their daily menu portions. We had a reserved table and a waitress took our tea order from the table and delivered all items to the table except any napkins or utensils. We still needed to go get them from a centrally located area for diners. Our waitress was very sweet but obviously inexperienced and wasn't clear on how the high tea worked and it took about 40 minutes just to get the tea. Most disappointing was the bread. It was very dry and crumbly so sandwiches were falling or crumbling apart as we ate them. So as far as value is concerned, the high tea was not a good value in my opinion.
