I was in search of a birthday cake 5 hours before the event. After perusing through their website, I called Lido Bakery at 10 am to see if they had a Lemon Surprise cake available. Although it was not, I spoke with Ernesto who assured me he could get the cake made, decorated, and ready to go within the next 3 hours. When I arrived for p/u, there was a good amount of people in the store picking up desserts. But I was in and out in under 10 minutes. As for the Lemon Surprise, it was light and the lemon was not overpowering. I like that it was subtle and not overly sweet. Overall, my co-workers and I enjoy the cake. I ordered the 6-inch (serves 6-8) for $35 and thought it was the perfect size. We actually had some cake leftover for a party of 8. I was told that they do have 10 or so pre-made cakes that were ready to go if needed. If you are looking for a last minute celebratory cake, Lido Bakery could be it! Hands down, the best bakery in town! Not just because the cake was absolutely delicious (berries and cream cake), but it was exquisite and the service was just impeccable from start to finish. The owner stopped everything he was doing to take my order and I immediately just knew that he understood the look I was going for with this special 70th birthday cake. I was thrilled when I picked up the cake and saw the flowers he designed on the cake were the exact color matches of the invitation that I had left for him. I know a lot of my reviews are in the higher star range but this place gets 10 stars! I first received their signature berry and cream cake on my birthday and It was uber love at first bite. I can't explain to you the nom nom goodness that is their cake. I have bought many a cake from them to pass on the happy feeling my tummy gets to others. The actual cake as a whole is really heavy, shockingly heavy since the actual cake is fairly light and fluffy. They are really good about turnaround time and the while that parking lot is small, I've never had a problem. I've tried a few of thier baked goods and oh my gosh the nom nom's are good all around. Berries and cream cake so good! Not too sweet at all. but a bit pricey at $35 for a small 6 inch cake (CC's jaw dropped when he saw how much it was) but worth it due to the quality and richness. But it's definitely a splurge. Also got the mixed berry pie but I think the boysenberries are weird. This is a personal preference sinec I know a lot of people like boysenberries, but they felt like they were splintery and there was another berry inside (huckleberry maybe?) that was kind of hard to chew since it had a firm nubbin in the very middle. I went into this nice bakery last Friday. I was greeted by a friendly face. I had some questions about their offerings and the young lady that assisted me answered all of them with a smile. Later, a friendly guy came up to the counter. He offered my husband a sample of their key lime tart that he had been eyeballing. My husband loved it! I tasted it too.. it was delicious. Light, tart and airy...not a dense filling like traditional key lime pie. The graham crust held together well and had a nice flavor and texture. I ended up buying a slice of their almond Roca cake based in the Yelp reviews. I still have it in the freezer..haven't tried it yet but I cut my daughter a slice about 10 minutes ago. I'll update with her feedback. The sweet young lady who assisted me, also gave me a free lemon bar (quite yummy) So sweet of her. I also bought one of their Mexican wedding cookies which was very tasty. I must also mention that they give out generous portions. I wish I would have also bought a piece of their famous berry cake. The Berries and Cream cake is to die for! So light, moist, and just plain delish!! I've had this cake twice so far, both for birthday celebrations. At both parties, everyone devoured their cake. Even after eating a full meal and a whole piece of cake, you don't feel stuffed, or at least that was how I felt. The cake is simple and has fresh berries on top, which just gets me excited to eat the berries that are within the layers. NOM! The cake is similar to a Tres Leches cake making it super moist. I'm known for nodding my head while eating something if I think it's good, and my head was off the charts bobbling because it was THAT GOOD!! Price is not bad: 6" round for $33 and it was perfect for our group of 8! I have yet to go to the actual store. I've only called in orders (my dad picked up the cake for me), but service is great over the phone. I've driven past the place millions of time, and I can't wait to stop by to try other goodies. I got a pumpkin cheesecake over the holidays here and it was so rich and delicious I couldn't stop eating it. Very dangerous! However, some of the smaller items like cookies and brownie bites was just OK. I guess most of their greatness goes into the bigger items. Also, there wasn't much of a selection for walk ins. I really had like 5 choices for a office work party, and I took a mix of the smaller items and this cheesecake. Everything else just wasn't suited for my needs. That being said, I just had to check out Lido after hearing raves about their pain au chocolat. So I made my way over to this small bakery that doesn't look very appealing..in any way. But whatever, it's whats on the inside that counts, right? Well, I bought a few chocolate croissants and cookies and was SO excited to eat them, only to find out that they tasted the same as what the place looked like on the outside. not-very-good. I was happy to hear that they could make it for when I wanted it, and when I went in to pick it up, the girl working the counter was very friendly. While there, my friend and I also ordered a macaroon, a lemon bar, and an eclair to try, each of which was quite yummy. This is more like 3.5 stars. This would have been a five star rating except for the call I got in my daughters wedding day. Just a couple of hours before they were supposed to deliver the cake, they called to say I still had a balance of $400 to pay. I had actually made the payment 3 weeks earlier and at that time I specifically asked the girl if she needed to take a copy of my receipt to ensure that they knew the balance was paid. She stated she would print another copy and attach it to the order I back. Obviously this never occurred. It was very annoying to have to bother with this kind of dispute on the day of the wedding. The cake was delicious but they also didn't decorate as requested originally. When we spoke with the baker, he indicated he would put berries in each tier but when delivered it only had the berries on top, so it was s little bare. So lesson learned, make sure you speak with the actual baker not the counter person to ensure things get done properly. read more

Order a couple days in advance to make sure you get one. The bad - It is $40 for the pie but they are very good. Great little bakery that you'd drive by if you didn't know where it was and even with the address, I damn near missed it. I have some important clients in Manhattan Beach and always stop by here before meetings. Never once have I, or they, been disappointed. There is one section with pastries and another with cakes, divided by the register, but still close enough where you can look at both. Just based off the slice of Berries and Cream I had, Lido Bakery is as good as it gets! The bakery itself is conveniently located in a small shopping center right on Sepulveda. The bakery is small and unpretentious. Their case houses treats on the left and cakes on the right. I was only interested in trying their specialty "Berries and Cream." First, I would like to comment on how fresh their Berries and Cream tastes. I'm guessing the slice I had was baked on Saturday as they are closed Sunday and Monday and the cake was down to a third by Tuesday. Nevertheless, the cake tasted fresh that it left me wondering how much better it would be the day of. I had a very generously sized slice which I took a bite of and then inhaled the rest within 5 minutes flat. The whip is perfect and not overtly sweet. The layers of cake are light and the berries in between and on top pull the flavors together creating a lingering taste. It was never overpowering at any point and didn't feel heavy at the end or even aftewards. I am going back to try their other cakes and will update my review to a rating averaged overall. read more

They made my wedding cake, and it was scarfed up immediately after serving. I recommend the berry cake...I forget the actual name, but the white cake with the mixture of berries. It was perfect. Yummy Yum Yum. Went here to cake taste for our wedding cake. Can I just say it was by far the best as far as choices and yumminess (Is that a word?). We ended up choosing the Berries and Cream but debated about also including the Carrot cake - because it was the Best darn Carrot cake I have ever had...I think it may have had pineapple in it. The spices in the Carrot cake were just perfect - we have decided on our 1st Anniversary we will buy one of these to celebrate. In addition, they have great customer service. They were very flexible and didn't make any snide remarks when I suggested that I wanted a sheet cake for the back to save some money. Also, they were cool about decorations - helping me find the least expensive options. If like our venue, you get a cake from someplace like Torrance Bakery (ek!) then think about the sheet cake thing and going to someplace like Lido where you can get yummy cake. The first time I ever ate a cake from Lido's it was for a co-workers going away party. I really loved the decorations and the taste of the cake. I went recently to order a cake for my friend's birthday. On their website and it said they do custom made cakes. I called them and verified and they said they could do anything. I went there to show them examples of how I wanted my cake. Nothing too complicated and was not expecting the perfect cake either. Ernesto, the guy who makes all the cakes tells me that its too much time for him. He said that he would have to charge me even more than what the cake is worth because it will be taking away time from this other cakes. What bakery says this??! He even told me that I should look into other bakeries. HOW RUDE. The whole time I was there I was very polite and even waited my turn. On top of it all, the part that pissed me off the worst... there was someone behind me, who probably was his friend because they were speaking Spanish to each other. The person behind me asked Ernesto in Spanish "Are you going to take long with this girl because I need to talk to you?" He then started helping her and just completely ignored me. Once she left then he began to help me again. Let alone, they probably didn't think I knew Spanish fluently. I guess I didn't look too Hispanic for them! I didn't think much of it and just shrugged it off. I compromised with the cake and made the order and even paid for it in advance. After talking to a few friends about my experience, I went to another bakery in Manhattan Beach. I went to Beckers Bakery and were very happy to take my order. They said I could make it anyway I want. They even charged me $40 dollars cheaper what I would of paid at Lido's. If you're looking for yummy cakes with terrible customer service then go to Lidos. But if you are looking for yummy cakes with excellent customer service I would advise you to go to Beckers. They just seem more friendly and professional there. read more

She wanted a special cake, and a few of us really went through a process to design the perfect cake for her....elegant, but fun! After coming up with a concept, I went to Lido Bakery and talked with Ernesto. He was very sure he could do what we wanted, and the prices he quoted me were very reasonable. He gave me lots of tastes of the different cakes, so I knew it would taste great. A friend had to pick up the cake and she sent me a photo after she did. I was blown away. And in person, it was even more fabulous. The cake was just perfect in almost every detail I wanted. We had a different flavor for each layer..and every layer was delicious!! i'm a woman on a mission....... to find a great tasting wedding cake at a super limited budget................. So I always have SLJ's tripple berry cake for my birthday.... alas for my wedding I can't afford the $7.25/a person wedding cake at SLJ not to mention the potential for super bad customer service.. I was looking through chowhound and saw that lido bakery's cakes taste similar to SLJ.. say what? How come I didn't know about this for the past 7 years.... So i went to Lido Bakery and scheduled a testing, their price is still slightly above my budget but...... their berry & cream is goood... very very similar to SLJ, slight difference in my opinion on the buttercream. Lido's seems to be a little too soft, it could be just that one cake... but everything else is the same, the design is even the same! I also really liked the German chocolate cake (that has nuts and coconut, chocolate) and the Italian rum (rum, vanilla? buttercream, chocolate). The only downside for other brides to be is their delivery charge is $2.75 per mile (or something around that number) and they charge you on ROUND TRIP! Which will be $110 for me.... which is insane... They suggest that I get someone to pick up the cake... but I dont know if I want that risk... sigh decision decision decision read more

AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING JOB!! I ordered a customized basketball shaped cake -- marzipan w/ berries and cream. They made the cake EXACTLY like the picture! The ordering process was easy; however, there was some confusion. About a week after placing the order, I called in to ask if they would make the cake stand with a basketball net around it. The picture I provided was exactly that. I understand that they would say no, considering the cake stand is a pretty much a side job to the cake at this point, BUT the lady over the phone said yes! I was utterly disappointed that I went out and bought a basketball net and drove all the way out there for the same lady to tell me no ...?! That alone would have cost them a star, but I was/still am very happy with the service. The cake itself (in relation to taste) was good - a bit drier than I'd prefer but the berries were delicious and very fresh! Not only that but the price was well-worth it given that the cake was HUGE (30-40 people.. Probably could have fed 50-60, to be honest) AND it took me forever to find a bakery that would do a custom cake with marzipan (the birthday girl's favorite). The BEST cake! I was looking for a chocolate birthday cake to feed 50 people. I went to Susie Cakes first and they wanted to charge me $175 for a plain 9 inch cake that fed 30 people and wanted to charge me $255 if I wanted it decorated. $255?!! Who do they think they are? I like their cakes but it's not worth that much in my opinion and I've been going to them for years. THANK GOD someone told me about Lido Bakery. I ordered this 12inch German chocolate cake that feeds 50 people for $150! I brought them the picture I wanted on the cake. Ernesto the baker totally out did himself! Everyone was so impressed with the cake but what was even better was that the cake was delicious! One of the best cakes I've ever had! I know their best seller is the berry cake but this German chocolate cake is to die for. I will not be going to Susie Cakes anymore but Lido bakery from now on.
