I've ordered several cakes from this Torrance Bakery location over the years, along with plenty of their sweet treats and cookies, and overall I've had good experiences. Their cookies are delicious, and the cakes are always fresh and flavorful. Most recently, I ordered a birthday cake for a friend, and it was a huge success. The cake looked beautiful, tasted amazing, and my friend absolutely loved it. It was exactly what I had envisioned, and it made the celebration extra special. I also love the neighborhood feel of this place. It has the kind of welcoming atmosphere where you see loyal customers coming in regularly, and the staff has always been friendly and pleasant to work with. As an added bonus, I've also ordered from the sandwich shop next door and really enjoy their pastrami sandwiches. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the custom cake decorating can be inconsistent. In the past, I've had more than one cake that wasn't decorated according to the order instructions, and the bakery actually had to remake it. While I appreciate that they made it right, it does make me a little nervous whenever I place a custom order because I'm never quite sure if the final product will match what I requested. Thankfully, this most recent order was perfect and reminded me why I keep coming back. The quality of their baked goods is excellent, and when the decorating is done correctly, they really deliver. If they could improve the consistency of their custom cake orders, they would easily earn 5 stars from me. read more

It's been so hard to find a king cake out in LA/Southbay, and even harder to find a legit king cake at that! Stop your search, and order your king cake from Torrance Bakery! I love that it's made-to-order/customizable & not massed produced like other local bakeries. The presentation, texture of the cake, and the freshness can't be beat. I'll be ordering my king cake from here every Mardi Gras season going forward. The ordering was straightforward on their website, and they had plenty of pickup dates & times available. The bakery was clean & their staff was extremely helpful when I picked up my order, and it was soooo tempting not to pick up other freshly baked treats that they had in their display. Came here while searching for oatmeal raisin cookies and decided to give Torrance Bakery of Gardena a try--glad we did. This location is part of the original Torrance Bakery in downtown Torrance, and the quality shows. We ordered several cookies: oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, and peanut butter. All tasted homemade--soft and chewy with just a slight crisp on the edges. The cookies were definitely the highlight. We also tried the fudge chew, which was good and very chewy, but not quite on the same level as the cookies. Picked up a carrot cake cupcake and a Dubai chocolate cup for dessert later (update to follow). Parking is limited, but the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They also sell cakes and take special orders. Overall, a solid bakery stop and one I'd definitely recommend. read more

So I was very impressed with Torrance Bakery my first few times I came, but I come to realize it pretty much used the same frosting laterally across the board with everything( it doesn't stand out as it does with other bakeries. The cakes are airy and fresh but it's just pretty straightforward., neutral taste with everything. The cinnamon rolls.." I'm tired of talking to them about it. I've told them to stop selling the cinnamon rolls that edge the whole sheet all around .." (when you bite into them )they're like wood and I always have to ask for the center ones. But they still haven't changedit.. they're still selling fresh cinnamon rolls as if they were a day old or two. It's been over six years already, so I'm pretty much done with that idea ,but anyways it's a fun Bakery to go to the first few times, but then it kind of becomes a repetitious and boring after that. read more

12 Years of Loyalty! One of my Favorite Go-To for Cakes. I have been getting all my special occasion cakes from this bakery for about 12 years now, and they have never, ever let me down. What's great about this specific location is that it's a full-service bakery. You can walk in and immediately see (and smell!) all the fresh-baked cookies, pies, and cakes in the display. It's the perfect spot to grab a quick treat. But the main event, of course, is their custom cakes. They have a huge selection to choose from, and after 12 years, I've tried a lot of them. My all-time favorite, the one I get over and over, is the Marble Buttercream Cake. It is consistently perfect. Now, a pro-tip: Their main bakery in Torrance is more for handling the custom orders and doing cake tastings. I definitely recommend doing a tasting, even if you just do it for fun. It's the best way to figure out your favorites. Honestly, cake tasting is such an underrated hobby, lol! Look, the custom cakes are pretty pricey; there's no way around that. But they are definitely good. You're paying for quality you can trust, and the designs are always beautiful. After more than a decade, I can say they're worth it. read more

Provided 4 tier wedding cake for my daughter's wedding: everything turned out great. Torrance Bakery is a preferred bakery of the Wedding reception location that we chose, and an allowance is given. A couple months before the wedding, a cake tasting was hosted at the Torrance location, where the couple (and one extra guest) could help sample to make choices. The couple ended up picking a 4 tier, cream cake with four different flavors including mango and chocolate...which fit within the allowance so no additional payment was necessary. The cake was delivered on time, and there were plenty of slices for all the guests to enjoy and take home if desired. We froze the top tier for later consumption (hopefully following tradition of one year later). The cake was delicious, decorated as requested, and delivered perfectly. I've been going to both locations for years, but this one is more convenient for me. I love everything that they bake. My favorite is the cookies. But they also made my wedding cake. I made an appointment at the Torrance location for that. It was beautifully decorated just as I requested with different flavors on each tier: red velvet with cream cheese, yellow with strawberries and whip cream, and banana with custard. Everyone raved about it! Back to the cookies. I usually go to the Gardena location for my fix. They have a cookie special on Wednesday, but I can't remember what it is. The chocolate chip cookies are great. Pro tip: get the bag of cookies vs. individual ones for a better price. The fudge chews are a cross between a brownie and a cookie. We call them brookies. They make a maple one as well. But my favorite cookie is the peanut butter. They're slightly crispy but also soft. They also make great custom cookies and cakes, donuts, petit fours, small pastries. I'm sure there's something for everyone with a sweet tooth. read more

Of all the years that I've lived so close, I had never been to this location until 2020!! Needless to say, I've been back a few more times! This location is easy to find parking, run in to get your baked goods quickly and leave! It's a bit smaller and so convenient! It's on the East side of Western Ave. in a small shopping plaza. The staff is friendly and helpful! If you come here, be sure to get their signature Chocolate Chew Cookie!! All of their cookies are delicious, but this one tops them all... if you love chocolate and chewiness!! I have just had a few different cookies and the Mini-Danishes. I keep going back for those Chocolate Chew Cookies! I remember we bought a cake many eons ago for a birthday party from the other Torrance Bakery and it was fantastic! I suppose I should try some again! I know, most people come here for the cakes, but we just don't have that need, so we're here mostly for the other goodies! After hubby had a stroke and was released from the hospital, we came here to take a box of goodies to the First Responders at the Fire Station as a thank you. And this year, we took so to a House-Warming Party! The space is small, but you're sure to find whatever it is that you would want! They did a nice job of observing Social Distancing and allowed just a few customers inside at a time during the COVID restrictions. If you are in the area, stop by and give them a try! The maple pecan cookies are chewy and delectable with pieces of pecan in them and just the right sweetness . Will definitely come back for more. I love Torrance Bakery! I have come here for years to order my kids birthday cakes and they never disappoint. The staff is friendly and the place smells so good when you walk in and it feels clean and nice! I order the sugar cookies and you can get an image on them. I get them wrapped and give them out as thank you's. The taste is not the greatest but I order them for the cuteness factor. The cake I usually get is the white cake with fresh strawberries and butter cream. It serves so many people and it's delicious. Very moist and yummy. I love the chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake, and the chocolate fudge chews. The best. The only thing is you still have to call and place an order, very old school but I'm sure it's to make sure accuracy of your order. This time around, the cake looked great as well, but the cake was on the drier side. The first experience ordering a cake with a guy last year was delightful. This is such a cute bakery and very close to where I live! I tried their chocolate chip pecan cookies, a carrot cupcake, a cheese danish, and a blueberry scone. I'm never one for scones, but was craving it one day and looked up what was in my area. This is one of the best scones I've had! I liked how it was more bread-like versus the typical firm cookie like texture (I hope I'm making sense lol). I tried their coffee too as it was freshly brewed, but was not a fan of it. Turns out they got the cake from Bonjour. Liked the cake so much that I visited Bonjour right after my meal (around 3pm). However, by the time I got there, they only had one type of cake available. I was told that the best time to visit their shop is around 11am. Around noon today, I dropped by the shop again. I was determined to try more of their cakes. This time around, they had a full selection of desserts. I ordered the Mont Blanc Roll Cake, Mango Mousse, Chocolate Cake and Cream Cheesecake. I, of course, liked the roll cake, but liked the chocolate and cheesecakes even more. There are a lot of bakeries scattered around the South Bay, but this place is now my favorite. They do have a refrigerated self-serve section with sandwiches and onigiri, as well as a table with loaves of bread and buns. The ordering process caught me off guard because I usually like taking my time looking through all the pastries at bakeries. Since everything was behind the counter, I felt a little rushed with people waiting behind me. They have so many options that it can be a bit overwhelming. I also had to stop myself from ordering too much since I'm trying to cut back on carbs. Here's what I ordered: Hot Dog Bun - 4/5: Tasty with a soft, fluffy bun. I just wish it had a little more of that cheesy crust on top. Ham and Cheese Croissant - 3/5: My boyfriend ordered this and thought it was just okay. It was a little small for the price. Strawberry Cream Croissant - 5/5: They're known for this, and now I understand why. The pastry was light and flaky, the strawberries were sweet, and the custard was rich without being overly sweet. Spam Roll Onigiri - 4/5: I loved the egg, and it was really flavorful. It was served a bit cold, though. I think it would taste even better if it were kept under a heat lamp. Raisin Bun - 5/5: So soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of raisins. It was also a great value--six buns for only $4.20. Hot Vanilla Latte - 4/5: Strong with just a light sweetness. It was really good, but I think it could have been a little creamier. The prices were reasonable. I spent about $26 for everything, which I thought was a great deal. Customer service was excellent. Even though there was a line behind me, the staff never made me feel rushed while I decided what I wanted. The barista was especially friendly and even checked in afterward to ask if I liked my latte. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come again.

I ordered 2 drinks through the app yesterday, the Honey Bori Latte (seasonal) and the Banana Milk Latte. The Banana Milk Latte was delicious once everything was mixed well, but the Honey Bori Latte was just bitter and then less bitter when mixed. It was already half melted, there was no salted honey cold foam or Jolly Pong which is supposed to be part of the drink. I got the order to go, so I didn't notice that my drink was wrong until I got home, so I couldn't even get it corrected. I didn't realize the drink was wrong at first. I thought it was just a flavor I didn't like even though I noted that I couldn't taste Barley at all. Then half way throught it, I decided to look at the description on the app to remember what it was supposed to taste like because it tasted like an ordinary flavorless latte. The description said there's barley milk, salted honey cold foam and Jolly Pong. That's when it hit me that I either got the wrong drink or someone didn't make it right because there was no flavor of salted honey and definitely no Jolly Pong in my drink. It didn't even look like I had cold foam topping my drink, but maybe that's because it was melting already. Overall, I was very upset and disappointed with my drink, but was happy my mom's drink was fine. Now this is only a part of why I was dissapointed with yesterday's experience. The other reason was the app and workers. Maybe the workers aren't used to working with the Smoking Tiger app yet? Or maybe the app still needs work, but the drinks I ordered through the app took forever to be marked ready even though my drinks had been ready for some time which was obvious because my Honey Bori Latte was already half mixed because the layers of ingredients were melting into each other. I arrived at the cafe about 5 minutes after ordering, but the app's estimated wait time was another 10 minutes which wasn't a problem for me, especially since I saw a person waiting for his order and some people inside the cafe, although it wasn't full like usual. I just assumed some people ordered before me, so I just have to wait a bit, which again was fine with me especially since I was waiting for my mom to arrive. At some point after the one person waiting for their drink left, I realized the 2 girls at the counter were just talking and not making any drinks. I checked the app and it still said my order was being prepared. After 2 more people ordered their drinks and received them immediately, I went up to the counter, by this point it had been the app's estimated 10 minute wait. I told the girl with glasses my name and showed her the order on my phone. Then she walked toward the fridge and got my drinks, put them in a drink carrier, passed them to me and then turned around while looking at the receipt paper that was with the drinks. That was it. She didn't tell me which drink was which and they were not labeled, so my mom and I just had taste them to figure out which was which. At most places, they let you know which drink is which, so I was just confused with the service I received, especially when the place wasn't busy. And to top it all off, my order was marked completed 10 minutes after I received my order which again just left me in confusion. I usually love this place and was saddened when they got rid of their Choco Mugwort drink, but I'm always looking forward to their seasonal drinks and baked goods. This time though, I don't think I was even able to taste one of their new seasonal drinks because it tasted like a regular latte with milk. I want to try their other current seasonal drinks, but I'm also worried about what I will receive in the future and I'm not ready for another disappointing coffee any time soon.

The pork itself was super gingery without being too pungent. The shredded cabbage was super easy to pick up and eat and the side of noodle salad and miso soup were great complements to the meal. I can tell no corners were cut anywhere and that Otafuku puts a little of effort into every meal they prepare. There is great care for all of the preparations and it was a very special meal.
