    Finally decided to go try this place last weekend when we were in the area. The restaurant is in an industrial area & quite small, so there was a bit of a wait to get seated. Food arrived pretty quickly though. We ordered 2 combos from their all day breakfast menu & added on some mini pineapple buns as they are somewhat famous for these buns. The food was decent, Hong Kong cafe style food. It was not bad, but also not particularly outstanding, save for the mini pineapple buns (these were really good!) What made our dining experience quite uncomfortable was actually the extremely strong smell of cleaning supplies / disinfectant in the restaurant. I mean, it was really overpowering, because I could smell & taste something like Clorox or Lysol the whole time we were there.

    Their pineapple buns are fantastic. Ho Yuen Café is a little café in the industrial area of south Vancouver offering Hong Kong style café food and the breakfast section is bang-on. Don't forget their HK style milk tea or coffee. However, the lunch menu and experience is a little disappointing. I ordered the curry brisket on rice ($19 and small portion) served on tin foil take out container. Ok, I can live with the tin foil container, but we had to ask twice where my rice dish was as other who came in after us go their dishes served. After a 50mins wait for my rice dish, no accountability or apologies. The curry rice was just ok so no need for me to come back for this dish. I will be coming back for the pineapple bun. The breakfast section offers better deals. There is a few parking spaces for the café in the business complex but make sure you parked in the right stall, or your car could be towed. On the weekends, there are lot of street parking. There is always a line up on the weekends.

    It was a long drive as the location is a bit inconvenient, but so worth it. This is the best cha chaan teng we've gone to in Metro Vancouver, it felt like we were in Hong Kong. We went during the lunch rush, but only waited 2 minutes for a table. The cafe is spacious with lots of natural light. Service was excellent and the staff spoke Cantonese. You can submit your order by scanning the QR code or by waving down the server. Satay beef in instant noodles: so much flavour and they give you a packet of sesame oil on the side. This came with a hot drink, I had hot HK milk tea. Curry chicken fillet combo: this was their July special. The curry was so satisfying and the chicken was perfectly cooked and so juicy. It came with a drink, we paid $2 extra to make it iced. Egg tart: I was blown away by their egg tart. It's definitely baked in house daily, the crust was so fresh and the egg was warm and melted in my mouth. Real pineapple bun: they have a variety of pineapple buns. I chose this one because it came with slices of actual pineapple and some pineapple flavoured cream. It was unique and worth trying.

    Bolo butter bao is 100 fire. Service was a bit meh to be honest. Pretty fast to get a table even though there was a wait. Thought that the vibes was alright. But would I go back and pay money for my meal, I don't know, definitely worth a try. It was solid food and tasty but for the price I'm paying, I might adventure to Richmond if I can. Definitely something cute and quaint and please order the butter pineapple bun. Wow. We also got some chicken pastries and egg tart. The tart was average but that chicken pie was delicisoosooo.... !!!!

    I would say it's a solid 3.5 star. Hong Kong style cafes are what we crave since we don't have alot in nyc so we've been hunting them down since we arrived in Vancouver. We were a party of 6 and came on a Friday morning. The restaurant was close to being full but they nicely asked a table of customers to move to another table so they can accommodate our big party (a very nostalgic and Hong Kong style move). We ordered a pan fried chicken in instant noodles, satay beef instant noodles, spam and macaroni in tomato soup, bbq pork and spaghetti and ginger sauce beef in vermicelli soup. Everything can be converted to a meal set for an additional $4 which includes toast, scrambled eggs and a hot drinks (additional $2 for cold drinks). You also need to add an additional $1.75-$2.75 if you want to replace your toast with a pineapple bun. I would say the highlight of this place is their bakery! Their pineapple bun was crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. My kids ordered the chocolate lava pineapple bun and it had a nice cocoa flavor to it. My husband tried their cocktail bun and was impressed how it had shredded coconuts in the filling which you can hardly find anymore. The pan fried chicken was juicy, tender, and had a nice sear. The satay beef was also very tender. However, both were very salty and although they used the instant noodle packages you can get from the supermarket which is normally more expensive, I feel it overall lacks the authentic cha Chan tend taste. The spam and macaroni was also disappointing. I was expecting it to be those rich tomato soup base from Hong Kong but instead, it was a little watered down Hong Kong style borscht. The macaroni was also a little over cooked. The major issue I had was their scrambled eggs. Despite it being drenched in butter, it still wasn't moist or fluffy. It was in fact a tad over cooked and the butter was too over powering. This restaurant is situated in a commercial complex and away from Richmond, hence they are able to charge such high prices as there's no competition nearby. There were also only a very limited parking spaces in front of the restaurant as majority of the parking spaces are reserved. Overall, although it's still miles better than what's available in nyc, as compared to other Hong Kong style cafes in the area that (like cha kee), I feel the food was subpar and overpriced. However, I would come back just for their bakery items.

    We were searching for a "cha chaan teng 茶餐廳" in South Vancouver's Marpole neighbourhood and found that Ho Yuen Cafe was the only one on the map. The reviews were mixed -- some highly positive, others extremely negative -- so we decided to check it out for ourselves. We visited for a late lunch around 2 PM, and despite the off-peak timing, the restaurant was still packed. That's always a good sign! What We Ordered: Pineapple Bun with Salted Butter (菠萝油) A freshly baked sweet bun with a crispy crust, served warm with a slice of salted butter. Simple but classic, a must-try! Pork Chop with Instant Noodles Soup (香煎豬扒出前一丁) Tender pork chop paired with instant noodles -- a comforting and nostalgic meal. The small pack of sesame oil on the side was a nice touch! Baked Curry Beef Brisket Rice (焗咖喱牛腩飯) It is a mild but flavourful curry, perfect for those who prefer non-spicy options. The cheesy curry sauce over the beef brisket was worth the 20-minute wait! Ho Yuen Cafe is a family-run, classic Hong Kong-style breakfast and lunch café. The nostalgic Cantopop music playing in the background added to the authentic experience. The portion sizes are fair for light eaters, but those with a bigger appetite might need to order extra. Prices are reasonable for what you get, though some dishes could offer more value. Overall, it was a casual Hong Kong-style meal. However, there is still room to improve and grow. If you're in Marpole and craving cha chaan teng 茶餐廳 flavours, Ho Yuen Cafe is worth a visit.     I'd never had a pineapple bun but finally had one here and liked it. This is cool little spot in an industrial park but people HAVE found it. I suspect there is more here for people that have a nostalgic tie to this kind of food but I enjoyed the experience and everything I tried. The coffee didn't wow me as something special. It is a great snack spot if you are doing a light recreational bike ride on the Greenway (this is at the south end).

    Hidden gem for that iconic cha chaan teng taste. Fresh made in house pastries and bolo baos were a highlight, but can you really say no to a bowl of satay beef instant noodles? The macaroni and spam in tomato broth was also the vibe for a rainy Vancouver day. 10/10 would go back for some classic Hong Kong service.

    TLDR: Good but not as good as Cha Kee. This place will draw the inevitable comparison to Cha Kee, which in our opinion is the best HK Cafe outside of HK. This place is still better than Bay Area though. The main reason this isn't as good, is their eggs. My wife likes ordering the breakfast set, which comes with toast and runny eggs. it's what she used to have when she grew up in HK (when she had time to eat breakfast). It's not something that is done down here in Bay Area unfortunately. Here, the eggs aren't as runny and as fluffy. But the toast is still good. My wife ordered a pork chop noodle soup, using the Japanese version of the famous instant noodle. She thought it was pretty good, but not as authentic-tasting as Cha Kee. The pork was well fried, and tender. The noodles honestly tasted like any other instant noodle. It's a good thing I love instant noodle! I ordered the house-made BBQ pork rice. The pork was a little bit dry, but still had good flavor. Not as strong a flavor as I would get at the best BBQ pork place in the Bay Area though. I really wanted to taste more of the sweet glaze. The rice had some of the soy sauce flavor, but again, I wish there was a bit more sauce to seep throughout the rice. As it is, my wife enjoyed the rice, but she likes plain rice anyway. All in all, it's a good restaurant, that is still miles away better than anything in Bay Area. That's four stars right there. One strange thing about this place is the parking situation. Most of the parking lot seems to be reserved, and there is actually only a few places in the front for restaurant parking. I guess, for the overflow, you should park on the street? It's strange to see so many reserved spots, but that might be a Vancouver thing. Oh also, for the tourists out there, this place only takes Cash or Debit.

    I wanted to try out this hidden away cafe in the vancouver southland industrial park . This place is brimming with customers and so it is very popular and so business must be good . I love that you can scan a QR code and order from your table what your desired order will be via your smartphone. . Wifi password is ilovehoyuen . I ordered the pork chop with scrambled egg and toast all day breakfast . Was so tasty but my only critique is that for $13.80 + tax + tip the portions are quite small. Add another $2 if you wish a cold drink instead of the included hot drink . I know they need to so what's right for their profit margin level and I'm sure lease their doesn't come cheap . Just wouldn't be my choice first go to choice when I love in Richmond I can get better portions for a better price . But for south vancouverites this is a great option as the food is tasty . And the service is excellent . Nite they take only cash or debit . They have a few patio tables . Handy for dog owners . . Street parking only . Open mom- Saturday's 9am -4pm

    I want to put it out there that as someone who has loved pineapple buns her entire life, Ho Yuen Cafe absolutely BLEW ME AWAY. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast on the morning we were set to leave Vancouver - it's conveniently located near the airport and we were craving a good Asian breakfast. THIS IS THE BEST HONG KONG STYLE CAFE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO, AND I'LL STAND ON THAT. The service was fantastic - one of the staff (I want to guess that she's the manager since she was directing many other employees) greeted us, consistently checked on us, and had staff communicate with us throughout the the meal. It was a busy morning with a packed cafe, so I greatly appreciated the level of attention given! We were seated immediately and ordered the following: - Baked tomato sauce pork chop rice: THIS WAS A SOLID 5/5! It was baked in a pan, served fresh, and tasted so much more flavorful than other versions I've had at locations in California. - Satay beef in instant noodles: My boyfriend got this and it was light and delicious! The noodles were thin and the broth wasn't overwhelming! - Hk coffee iced: We both ordered iced HK coffees and I was impressed that it was larger than most places I get the drink from! The one here was creamy, light, and tasty! - Pineapple bun with salted butter and eggs: A SUPERSTAR RIGHT HERE, 5/5! This one was amazingly soft, fluffy, and delicious! I still can't get this treat out of my head! It's the best pineapple bun I've ever had and its texture went so well with the eggs and salted butter! (This was so good we ended up buying the three pack mini pineapple buns to take back to California)! I am so impressed with Ho Yuen in so many ways. Both my boyfriend and I loved the quality, the service, and the affordable prices of this amazing HK style cafe and plan on making stops here whenever we drop by Vancouver!

    Home far away from home.... Super awesome food... we ordered both the dry and the soup noodles - both rocked!!! The yingyang was super solid!!! The fried chicken filet was super awesome!!! While we flirted with the Happy Hour menu, Bobby took the reins. You don't say no to a man with that much charisma and passion! On his expert recommendation, we pivoted to the Two-Meat Combo (BBQ Pork + Soy Chicken) with a side of their famous Roast Duck. The food arrived in a lightning-fast 10 minutes, but the real treat was Bobby's play-by-play on how each dish was prepared. You can taste the pride in every bite. At times, some staff were not was attentive such as: they took the chopsticks away, but you still needed them. Still, Kirin is solid for it's dim sum and seafood!
