Vonte helped me choose the perfect hat and walked me through the customization options to get my girlfriend's name stitched on the side with a little heart, which came out clean, centered, and exactly how I pictured it. He was patient, friendly, and made sure everything was spelled correctly and placed just right before sending it to be stitched, which really made the experience feel personal instead of rushed. The store was organized, the process was quick, and the final result looks amazing my girlfriend loved it and it definitely made the hat feel one-of-a-kind. I had a good visit with my family. Mind you we came on a Wednesday in the late morning so the mall was fairly empty and peaceful. The shop is small but does house a ton of fitted caps. We got a SD New Era one for my son! His first sports "name brand" hat. To my surprise we can get it customized! So for his first hat we did! The worker was super friendly and told us any color! We just did gold yellow to match but also added extra diamonds (they called it stars). We chose the Kindergarten font since it goes with him being an infant! It's super cute! I love it so much and we will keep this hat even when he outgrows it! Took about 30 mins to complete which was fine, we went to eat while he worked on that. The letters seem a little crooked to me like it's descending but with the font (which we did all caps), it's fine. The cap itself was $27.99 but with customization it came to almost $50. I did try to look online to see if it was sold anywhere but those are hard to find so it was worth it for us. read more

I can't remember the last time of been inside a lids. It's been over 10 years at least. I was getting a gift for a friend overseas. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. Helped me with the correcting sizing and different options. I had no idea they did custom embroidery! I was able to get their name on the side of the hat to really make it a memorable gift. The color waves they offer now is awesome. Great mix for the girly girls and classics. I was expecting it to be expensive but the hats are actually really reasonably priced. The embroidery was $14 and the hat $39. They did it right on the spot took about 5 minutes. We'll worth the extra fee to make it customized gift. read more

They put up sales signs and put items there that aren't included in the sale. The sign has a big BoGO 50% off, but in very small writing, the sign says see sales person for exclusion. Nick Above and beyond, this man deserves higher recognition and more. Would I have seen him in person, easy $200 tip just for his actions and attitude. I had gone on Saturday to get my sons first pair of hats, they mistakenly stitched the wrong stuff, I asked if I can please get the stitching removed and redone (it ain't cheap) I want what I paid for! The salesperson was so RUDE, I waited 4 DAYS just to get my sons hats restitched and they were not ready or able to find them. My guess is he threw my hats away. Get him off the floor "RICARDO". Can't stand the heat, get out the kitchen. This has been the worst employee I encounter here at LIDS. Much respect to NICK who I called at 4pm about my situation, said he was really busy but he would call me back with an update. It was 9p when he called me back, time was not an issue but for him to keep his word and call me back, not only did he fix my issue, NICK stayed working really late 9-10pm just to have my sons hats ready. Good lord, Lids! Every question I asked was met with an answer where I was standing there like...??? Their computer system doesn't allow them to see stock in other locations, they can't transfer product between stores, forcing you to have to seek out different (remote!) locations to find what you want, they can't tell you what stock they're going to receive on their next shipment, their website is tragically buggy, and now I've been waiting outside a high profile location for a half-hour now with the store missing employees. Gone are the days when I used to work retail in a mall. I'm referring to the days of working for some corporation selling products made by kids in Asia that get paid a fraction of the peanuts I received. Naturally, I didn't take my job seriously, BUT I definitely don't think I ever got as bad as the guy in this story. I recently visited here on a weeknight. As I approachaed the store, the manager was apparently in the store next over flirting with the manager there given that his store was empty. As I drew close, one of the manager's friends passed by jokingly exclaimed that someone was robbing Lids. Unaware of my presence, the manager replied (spoken in a Black vernacular accent), "sh_t, I don give a f_ck, let dem steal dat sh_t!!" Can someone either give this guy a raise or FIRE HIS ASS ON THE SPOT?!?! Seriously, keep that ignorant non-sense out of San Diego's alleged premiere shopping mall. It scares off the tourists, more than the alcohol ban on the beach!! read more

I hate to say it but I have to agree that most of the reviews for this particular Lids are spot on. Summary: great selection, awful service. My latest visit landed me a couple of new hats that I've been looking for. A classic old school Padres hat and and dark blue and gold Brixton rounded out the order. Good thing I know my sizes and can tell you 95% of the time if a hat is going to look good on me before I even try it on since mirror space in this joint is limited. Seriously though, two tiny mirrors in this closet of a store just doesn't cut it. Two minutes and about $50.00 later I was out the door, no thanks to the staff. read more

What a freaking joke. I bought 3 hats there on Saturday. One for the wife, one for me and one for my stepson. The hat I bought for my stepson didnt fit him so I gave him the receipt and he took his hat back to EXCHANGE it. Not even return it mind you. I went to the mall today just to go to Lids and buy a hat, what a mistake. I walked in and the two guys working didn't acknowledge me at all, they were talking to each other, swearing loud enough for myself and the 4 or 5 teenage kids in this very small store, to hear every word they were saying about some girl that had just called the store. I was very close to telling them to shut their mouth. Anyways, I was an easy sell, I knew what I wanted and was ready to buy! They have a ton of SD hats which is what I was looking for and although I was going just to buy one hat, I was considering buying a few. Not one of them bothered to ask me if I needed help even though the hats I wanted were behind the counter and the guys working there were literally standing right next to me. They just kept talking and calling each other "homie" they must have said it 20 times in the 10 minutes I was there. At this point I was over it and left. I ended up going down stairs to Fanzz and it was a much better experience! The guys working were friendly and helpful. They didn't have as good of a selection but I didn't care, I knew I was giving them my business. I walked out of there happy with my purchase and my experience. I will be going back here for further purchases. My opinion is just that, my opinion, but I do know a thing or two about customer service and Lids has some of the worst customer service that I've ever experienced. "Absolutely lacking modern business practices in a cramped, hot environment" is what my title of this review for this store would be if I could. Ordered 3 items online and after 9 days - I get a phone call and email confirmation that the items have arrived. When I show up, after waiting in line, ask for my items and they are handed to me 1x1 but only 2 items are given to me. When pressed where my 3rd item is, employee #1 shrugs and surmises they don't have it. When I say I don't want to take any of my items until I have all of them, the manager tells me to check my bank statement- corporate "probably already refunded" me for the misusing item. I call his bluff and show him on my phone that's not the case. He further tells me that it's ok to take the 2 items, as they don't require me to sign for anything, in fact! When asked how I could prove that I didn't receive my third item or they did in fact give me the other 2 items, his response was "security cameras." I almost laughed out loud at how there isn't any accountability or order tracking or inventory procedures. We will see if I ever get my 3rd item. Just pure crap when it comes to business practices. read more

They do have a good selection and they are in a easily accessible area of the mall but the store is small, hard to reach most hats and the staff put off a vibe they don't want to help you. Store: This place is small. You go in and you feel claustrophobic. Maximum occupancy is probably the same amount of people as you can fit in an elevator. It's the #1 smallest store within Fashion Valley. Selections: Simply put, Lids has a nice collection of fitteds and snapbacks. Service: Bad service. Walked in to purchase a hat and without my consent charged me an extra $5 for their Lids program. I told them I didn't want it but the three employees working replied they can't do anything about it since it already went through. Overall impression: Bad. Don't go here for service. I am very surprised to see so many negative reviews. I had an excellent experience at this lids with both customer service and selection. I just walked by today and saw some of the coolest lakers hats I have ever seen. I went it ready to buy a few fitted hats and started looking for my size. At first I was disappointed that I couldn't find one of the hats I really liked in my size, but the clerk Craig helped me find it really quick. Then he gave me advice on how to fold the bills of my hats so they would fit better. Then the proceeded to fix the hats I was buying so they fit perfectly, as well as the hat I wore into the store. I signed up for the lids card and I plan on taking all my hat business to this lids all thanks to Craig's customer service. read more
