I wanted to like Life Art Creations. It's an LGBT-owned shop, it's local, it has a cool vibe inside. And I was looking forward to my appointment all week. But unfortunately instead I had a very stressful experience that left me feeling like I would not trust Jay with piercings again and I wouldn't recommend the shop anymore. For context, I had an appointment to get my lip pierced. The morning of the appointment, he texts me asking if I can come in an hour early. I adjust my schedule for him since I assume I might be the only one who booked an appointment and he wants to get out of there. Instead it was because he had scheduled another event at the same time. I show up an hour early, he unlocks the shop and sets everything up. Then he grabs a straight barbell for a vertical labret. I ask him why he wouldn't use a curved barbell as that's the only type I've ever seen used for vertical labrets, and he says "it's fine, it's personal preference, just change it when the swelling goes down if you want and I don't have that kind to pierce with anyway" I say okay and we move on with it (FYI - not the correct jewelry at all). He doesn't line my face up to make sure the piercing is centered. He doesn't ask me where on my lip I want it done. I tell him I do have a natural line on my lip where it's centered, and he just kinda eyeballs It and goes for it. Immediately I notice it's crooked and off-center. At first he tried to dismiss that, and then caved and said "Well... Okay maybe it's off a little to the right, but people won't notice" I said I'd notice because I want it to look good and ask if he can redo it. He does, saying "I haven't eaten all day so I'm getting shaky and stressed and just want to get out of here" But dude I booked this time with you, and not only did you not prepare for that but you pierced me shaky? That just seems so unprofessional and unsafe. So he does it again and it's crooked again the other way. We're both getting stressed but he just tells me to "mark it yourself" and hands me the pen. I try to but my lip is now bleeding too much that its difficult, we figure it out eventually and he does the piercing a 3rd time, and then I pay and leave just kinda not wanting to inconvenience him anymore (as I'm shelling out a ton of money to him). My friend who came with to support me tells me once we're out that the piercer was exchanging judgmental looks with his friend about me, which is so rude and unprofessional. Afterwards I'm feeling pretty odd in the straight barbell. It looks good but it just feels wrong. So I call a couple other piercing shops and explain what happened and everyone assures me that under no circumstances should you be piercing with a straight barbell in a vertical labret and that I should get it fixed to the correct jewelry immediately or else it could be a rejection risk. Glad that others were able to help me get the right advice but I'm just so let down by my experience. Getting a piercing should be a fun exciting thing and you should be able to trust the piercer to know better, to want to be a perfectionist with you and be passionate about their job, and to give you the time and support and professionalism that you're paying for. It might have been an off day for Jay maybe but at this point my trust is pretty shattered, and my friends that came and supported me already decided not to go with him for the piercings they want in the future. read more

I read great reviews about this place, but I guess that only applies to tattoos. My friend and I got piercings here (a conch and cartilage). My other piercings in the past have irritated but eventually calmed down and healed, but it feels as though the piercings were not even close. Seems as though the piercings were not punctured the right way and skin was always being stretched. We paid around $120 for both piercings. Eventually had to take out both due to discomfort and no healing. read more

It's been about 3 weeks since I got my nipple piercings at Life Art Creations, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. Jayson was very welcoming, informative, and patient when discussing the specifics of my piercing. I wanted a bigger gauge but wasn't sure by how much, and he helped me choose the right size. He was also very quick at setting up the studio, which was decorated to be very bright and green which made me feel welcome and comfortable. The initial piercing hurt pretty significantly, maybe 8 or 9 out of 10 in pain, but it instantly dulled to a constant pain of about 3 or 4 over the next few days. I have been following Jayson's aftercare instructions, and my piercings have been healing great. Jayson gives tattoos with happy endings! Let me explain, let me explain! :) I got a lotus tattoo-- my first-- from a "renown" artist back in April and I was NOT happy, very far from happy, and hated ever getting a tattoo. Then along came Jayson. A few weeks ago he touched up my lotus, added color and made it worth looking at . I was so impressed with his work that I went back for more. He was patient with me as I kept sending him pics almost every day for a week of what I was thinking of getting. I'm not artistic so it's hard to describe and ask for what I want. Finally, last Sunday, I went to his shop. We talked about the design, he sketched it out on my back, and he went to work. Getting poked by him was fun. We chatted, he sang out loud to the music he was playing, and he did an awesome job. He added the lily pad and the water ripples. It wasn't what I expected: it was a hell of a lot better! What happier ending can I want? (Ok, he is very sexy, so I suppose there could be a happier ending, but that's not tattoo business anymore...) What I liked best is his integrity: he takes seriously the fact that you're putting your skin into his hands. I felt vulnerable when I was first tatted and was disappointed. I took a risk with Jayson and he respected how I felt about letting someone mark me for life. I really wanted to leave Jay a 5 star review since he's a stellar human, but my septum piercing ended up being a nightmare. The jewelry wouldn't go through the first time, so he stuck the needle through my septum again, which was fine bc I asked him to and I wanted the job done since we'd already started. Felt sore afterward, but given the circumstances, obviously. I went home a few hours later, cleaned it up with sea salt soak, but after work, I noticed that the piercing was still bleeding, goopy, and that the pain was unbearable. I've had tattoos and other piercings done so I'm tolerant of pain, but this was too much. I had to take the piercing out and am now left with a sore, throbbing hole in my septum, and I'm out a pretty penny. Not happy about this :( read more

My mom and I decided we wanted to get matching tattoos. I have to admit I felt a little awkward about taking my mom to a "tattoo parlor" - kind of like going to a movie with your mom and there's lots of sex in it....just kind of weird. Anyway, Jay was super nice and very professional. His shop looks edgy enough that you feel like you're doing something a little wild but not so much that you're embarrassed to be there with your mother! So ya, his place is clean (as in sterilized properly!), interesting, and he knows how to act. And now for the important part - the tattoo! Well, this was my first tattoo so I don't have any frame of reference but it was a great experience working with Jay. I contacted him a few weeks in advance with a design and some basic, lame questions (we don't live in the area but knew we would be in town on a particular date). He was super professional and helpful, and we made an appointment. When we showed up he was there and ready for us. He had taken my design I showed him and had it all ready, and was even understanding when I told him I had made some changes to it. He worked in the changes without a hassle and definitely improved on the design, which I didn't even realize how much until I got home that night and looked at it closely. It was my design, only way better!! Well, tattoos do hurt....I went first and as soon as he did the first little part I thought, "how am I going to let my 71 year old mother do this to herself?!" and I suggested she run down to the liquor store! Well, Jay even had wine - red wine - because my mother couldn't bring herself to buy Thunderbird, which was all they had at the store. We were completely confident in Jay's ability to do a clean, professional job. I highly recommend Jay and his place. If you want a biker/gangster/not sure if he's even sober kind of tattoo place, don't go here. But if you happen to be out on an adventure with your mother, DEFINITELY this is your place! Went on a little spontaneous trip this past Tuesday. Yes, I know.. a bit late, but this place left an imprint in my faulty memory so it was indeed more than worthy of a review. Found this place on yelp with great reviews so i decided to go for it. It was a little hard to find, but im sure glad i came to the right place! The building might look a bit shady from outside, but FEAR NOT! my friends.. I say GO GO GO! Got my cartilage done for only $35 + 5 for the jewelry. So CHEAP for a piercing done right! Cant say it wasnt painful, but it was worth every dollar. Used to pay 75+ for piercings at other tattoo parlors. This place is a diamond in the rough. Very nice guy with great taste in music! About three years ago, I was in dire need of an artist who could manipulate other artists' work. I scoured the city looking for an artist brave enough/ good enough to take on my project. (I had a really bad/big/ crappily done tribal vine outline done by an artist on Santa Monica Blvd... I was fresh off the boat...) After meeting him, he decided to take on my project and really turned it into a badass piece. Since then I have had him create two custom pieces to accent the vine. Both were custom made Polynesian designs. I always get complimented on his work. Being an actor I have showcased his work on many tv shows and movies. I legit book work based on how good this ink is. Each time I need a waiver from him, which he happily signs. It's always a conversation starter on set. Due to the nature of my skin, it rejected certain ink. Since I was 18 I have been trying to finish this one damn tattoo, each time I get it worked on my skin rejects it. (It's a Chinese scroll) Once Jay realized my problem, he solved the issue with using a traditional Kuro Sumi ink. Since then I have had no negative reactions, and my tattoos actually come out looking awesome. Not looking all creature feature anymore. To anyone seeking an artist, make sure to do your research. As you research Life Art Creations, and the artist Jay, you will find he truly cares about you and the art. But more importantly, he does damn good work. So if you are looking for an ARTIST I strongly recommend Life Art Creations. But if you are looking for someone who gives you a jail looking ass tattoo, go to Daytona beach. Peace read more

It's no surprise that the only negative review of this business is from a guy whose Yelp photo is literally a butt, and who has only written two reviews, both of them one star (I'm concerned Yelp will censor me if I use anything stronger than the word "butt"). I was a little skeptical in coming because Jay is pretty short and to the point on the phone, and it came across as kind of curt and disinterested. Once I was in the studio, however, I realized it was because he gets a lot of phone calls about prices, etc... a whole lot of random inquiries that would have to get annoying over time. The studio itself is a private studio so no one else is receiving work while you are there. It was just me and Jay, which was awesome. He was fully present to the entire process and really responsive to my desires. I was really impressed at how efficiently he worked, whether it was sketching something out by hand or scanning images I brought with me and working with them digitally to produce the look and size that I wanted. He never fussed when I asked him to change something about the design or to erase a stencil and reapply it 2mm away from where he had previously put it. He truly seemed concerned with me being happy about the work that I received. Obviously that is good business, but it also seemed sincere. Interpersonally I enjoyed him as well. He was easy to talk to and very down to earth. I was there for a little over two hours, getting three different pieces of work done on three different parts of my body. Jay worked efficiently but not rushed. It was the perfect blend of quality, presence and speed. I never felt like he was milking time for more money or like he was rushing to get me out of the door. One of my tattoos was also a little vulnerable for me to get, because it reminded me of a very difficult experience in my life and was also a tattoo image that grown men don't tend to get on their bodies. Being my first tattoo, I had high expectations and I didn't trust this job to just anyone. As one of my closest friends, Jay and I discussed the piece several times and finally met to modify and outline the original design. As my first tattoo and his first with this type of very complex, wood cut design with tons of subtle shading, we both knew that this piece would be an adventurous challenge! There is still beautiful art being created during the pandemic. I had the opportunity to book an appointment at Life Art Creations because of a last minute cancellation. The wait is usually months. I have no tattoos at age 54. I was ready and did my research on LA based artists. I settled on well known Jayson Ponce. It was a great experience, one I plan on repeating. The man has vision, takes his time, demands your input and then gets to work designing. We talked a lot o our possibilities. He never pushed, only gave me options. The experience during these troubled times was a respite to take the time to consider the future and what it would look like for me personally. Art is expression of the artist and the subject. The collaboration process was interesting and fresh to me. The studio was great, the atmosphere was relaxed, the conversation all over the place as I think it should be. I am goi g back, next week, in fact. Fir my originally scheduled appointment to continue the work with Jayson that we began today. It's the kind of long term relationship that he likes to cultivate. I went to Jayson to get my ears pierced. I had my ears pierced before but they were halfway closed. I wanted to go to someone who would be more precise than those places that use earring guns. He was very precise and took great care that everything was thoroughly disinfected. He also gave great advice for after care. Make your own saltwater as a cleaning solution with sea salt. I used that and for the most part it worked well but since they were piercings that needed to be re-opened, they were taking longer to heal. He recommended Bactine and that did the trick. I put the Bactine in a shotglass and soaked my earlobes in them. It worked very well. Thanks, Jayson! read more

Awesome dude. I wanted to get my conch pierced so I called this place at around 6 and he picked up saying they were still open and he had just finished up with a client. I went there and it's a small little room but don't judge a book by its cover. The dude was really nice, welcoming and clean. When placing the dot mark on my ear, I was being a little picky with the spot, but he was very patient and still kind, which is rare in most places. The piercing was $40 which includes jewelry plus $5 if you get a stud with a piece of jewel on it. I'm sure he's great with tattoos too. I went there to get the top of my ear pierced-Jay took time to figure out good placement and ended up angling it slightly which turned out to be a great idea... It was painless nearly to my surprise and Ive followed his instructions for cleaning ( sea salt and warm water with a Q tip) and after the initial night when it was a little sore,Its healing very quickly.
