Dr. James Hook is extremely knowledgeable and skillful at his craft. I am a competitive bodybuilder and before meeting Dr. James I had various muscle imbalances and lower/upper back soreness that affected my overall performance and recovery time. Within my first session, he ran multiple tests to assess where most of my tension roots from and where the imbalances were prevalent across my back. He was detailed in explaining how we can work together to improve my aches and pains--6 weeks of adjustments later...my back, posture, and joints never felt better! Best chiropractic center I've ever been to! My old chiropractor told me I would need corrective surgery to correct my back, that was when I was 19 years old. I am now 23 and feel like a completely new person! They gave me exercises to do every night to improve my strength in certain areas of my back, and they always knew if I didn't do them! Rosie, the receptionist, makes me smile every time I come in. She constantly deals with me changing my appointments every week and is never mean about it, even though it's probably really annoying. I have to be honest... I have been holding out on making a review of this business (we started in July) but the time has come...Let me start off by telling you what a big skeptic I am or was! My husband, mom, and daughter have all been under Chiropractic care but I was not interested. I finally gave in and I am happy that I did. The staff here is amazing!! You walk in and you are greeted by Rosie, if you are having a bad day her amazing attitude will turn it right around!! Dr Mary is a joy to talk to, she is the kind of person that looks at you when you are talking and acts like talking to you is all she has to do in her day. Dr Ron is a sweet man and my (almost) 2 yr old daughter has no problem being adjusted by him. Jodi is so sweet as is Dr Paul. The entire staff is military and family friendly. I love everyone here!! If you are in the San Diego area and are interested in Chiropractic care this is the place to be. PS...If you are thinking, "Why should I listen to her, this is her first experience?"...My mom is 68 and has been under Chiropractic care for 33 years. Thoroughly explained why both myself and my wife have the symptoms we've come in for. (with a plan to fix it) I didn't even know I had an issue with my neck until it was adjusted. When I left the office my new found range of motion was shocking.. They're so good at what they do that Dr. Matt knew that I had eaten bad food the day before (even though they both know I typically eat a very healthy diet). Dr. Ron and Mary are too sweet! I got a great deal on a promotion that was going on during the SD fair that included: a consultation, x-rays, an a sneak preview on an adjustment. Being a first timer, I was feeling a little shy at first, really didn't know what to expect. I was introduced to Dr. Ron and he was a very nice man. He made me feel comfortable and made sure that I was educated on what the practice was all about. It was all new to me and I've learned a lot thanks to him. I'm really bad with names... But the assistant took x-rays and some information about me and asked questions about any pain that I've had or anything that I feel needs to be noted. She was super nice and I had some great conversations with her. Shortly we did some test that were suppose to represent my balance, structure, posture, and movement. It was fun to do. I went back a second time to see the results. I was informed that it would be a good idea to come back and get adjusted because I have a slight curve on my spine and my neck can use some touching up. Because I'm going to school and currently not working, I wouldn't be able to pay the monthly payments to come back to get adjusted (quite expensive). I enjoyed my visit here, but I don't think I can spend that much... If I do have extra money to splurge on (or even treat myself) I would come back here for sure! read more

Highly recommended for athletes!!! Go see Dr. Matt! I thought I was in good shape because I run, lift, play sports, and have a physically demanding job. Turns out I was missing a major component of overall physical health. After feeling a strange and painful pop in my neck while doing some pull-ups, I followed my girlfriends advice and tried chiropractic. I was skeptical, thinking that I was in good shape and there was nothing chiropractic care would really do for me. I WAS WRONG! Turns out, while I was fine in the muscle and endurance departments, I was seriously lacking in flexibility, mobility, and posture. Dr. Pennetti and his team taught me several stretches and exercises to help rejuvenate my spine and give me greater range of motion. When I first tried the exercises I realized how tight and limited my mobility really was. I could barely hold a position of good posture for more than 20 seconds. After sticking with the exercises and adjustments for a few months I have experienced a drastic change in my daily life. Not only do I feel better, but I run faster, lift heavier, have more endurance, feel taller?!?!, and have had several people close to me say that my posture has completely changed. I did not write a review of this place at the time of my visit, because the whole experience felt CREEPY and UNCOMFORTABLE, but after checking my junk mail folder and still seeing adds from this office, I decided it was time. I worked for a non-profit mental health organization where Dr. Lauren delivered a presentation called Live to Age 100 (or something like that), after which she booked appointments for screenings at Life Chiropractic. Lauren seemed knowledgeable and kind, and the appointment seemed worthwhile, so I signed up for it. Upon entering my appointment, I was greeted by Dr. Lauren, who promptly introduced me to Dr. Matt, her husband, whom she explained would be working with me. I went through a number of screenings over the course of an hour or so, and was asked to come back the following week for the results. During this second appointment, Dr. Matt took me to a small room and proceeded to deliver a VERY HIGH PRESSURED SALES PITCH by claiming my spine was in seriously poor condition (I've never experienced any problems in my life). Just to paint a picture, Matt is an imposing 6'5, and towered over me while explaining the multi-thousand dollar cost options. He verbally cornered me and then asked the question, not if but, "How are you going to pay for this?" Matt knew exactly what he was doing. He was trying to BULLY me into paying his office thousands of dollars. It was obvious he had studied sales techniques. (As a side note, I notice the business claiming they have thousands of satisfied customers in their defense of one star reviews, but the truth is, of those thousands, many are probably too intimidated to say otherwise. Again, BULLYING TECHNIQUES). This office employs a calculated approach to sales using a bait and switch technique (Laura for Matt) and INTIMIDATION. Upon consulting with my colleagues, they shared similar stories about their experiences at this office as well. Chiropractic work is supposed to be about healing, and this whole experience felt very STRESSFUL and frankly UNETHICAL to me. It really left a bad taste in my mouth toward the whole profession. My colleagues and I were able to relay this information up to the COO of our company, who apologized to us for inviting their presentation to our premises, and assured us that they will no longer be welcome. I STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANY COMPANY FROM HOSTING THEIR PRESENTATIONS OR ANY INDIVIDUALS FROM BEING LURED INTO THIS OFFICE! read more

This chiropractic office is a shame. They are money hungry monsters and do not care for the good of their patients, but for the good of their finances. They put on a friendly front, but do not be fooled. I had a free exam, given to me by a patient of theirs, in July and then when I did not continue with their services they sent me a bill for the exam claiming it was not free. They then threatened to send the bill to collections, blackmailing me and forcing me to pay them. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. read more

I think that all of the people who gave good reviews of this place have no idea what they are talking about...I would call them sheep (or they are in cahoots with the business), because this place is horrible...TERRIBLE. I found this place on google earth after I was in a car accident. It looked nice enough, and I had never gone to a chiro before, so what did I know. I went into the whole experience expecting/hoping I could trust them, wrong. The first day wasn't bad...initial testing, x-rays, etc... I was there because of an accident, and they knew that, and they also knew that insurance was going to cover me. I could feel the whole time that all they saw was money signs. Very conveniently, they told me that they would just send all the bills and such to my insurance for them to deal with...simple stuff, but I never saw the bills. That first visit/day was over $500. I stood on a balance board and they took x-rays. The pressure at this place is unreal. They want (practically make) you to watch stupid videos that are geared towards selling you more chiropractic care. They made me (and a group) sit through some silly presentation/demonstration about the importance of chiropractic care and stretches (which was okay, but I could have learned that on google). Sure, I could have left, but this guy is cracking my back and neck...you don't piss those people off, right? It was all just sales techniques...over and over...with a high pressure feel. My feeling was this...I am in pain, my insurance will cover X amount of care...as long as everything is covered, I am cool with their treatment plan. I knew that my insurance only covered certain things, so I wanted to know what wasn't covered. Unfortunately, they only would tell me one thing that wasn't covered (neuromuscular re-education...what this means, I have no idea). I had a conversation with Ron (chiropractors aren't doctors) about this, and that I knew this wan't covered, so stay away from that. He acted like he had never heard of it, so I figured I was in the clear...he makes you feel so nice/comfortable when you are in his presence. I still never felt quite right around him...always something off, but he is the smooth talker type. Of course, when my insurance sent me the bills from Life, guess how many charges there were for neuromuscular reeducation? At least 6, maybe 8. I don't even know what this is, let alone remember doing anything I wasn't familiar with...what are they charging me for? I remember sitting int he waiting room one day, and this gentleman came in and talked with the receptionist (who I did like). She asked him why his wife wasn't there, and I'll never forget his answer. He said, "she doesn't want to come in anymore..she says there is too much pressure to get more work done and she was done with it...and too scared to come in and "quit" in person". They offered massages for a certain price, and when you make an appointment, they signed me up for a half hour, so I figured the price was the 30 min price...wrong...it was the 15 min price. When I was getting real tired of all of the shenanigans, and was fed up with my negative emotions towards the place I told the receptionist that I was done with treatment. I must have gone through this a couple time. It was like a joke for them...she said, "did you talk to "Dr." Ron about this, snicker?" Knowing full well that if I did, that he would sure as shit talk me out of quitting. I felt caught in a never ending loop of unhealth...always needing more done...never being able to leave. It really sucked. Sure, I should have been more hands on...and I would suggest anyone who goes here to really stay on them about knowing what they are doing and how much it will cost, because I didn't and they screwed me. Now, I am in a battle with my insurance about the rest of the bill. They turned me off to chiropractors so much that I don't think I'll ever go back to one again. It added so much stress to the whole accident situation, that it just wasn't worth it. The thing is, people worry about their health, and these people use that to sell you more treatment than you need and keep you around as long as possible. Meanwhile they do everything in their power to steal from you. They blew me off for 4 months while they promised my monthly fees would be adjusted because they were also charging my insurance.
