Recommendations for Dave with Innovative K9 as a trainer kept coming across our search and we decided to invest in the Puppy to Adult Dream Dog Course. To this day, the money spent was absolutely worth it. We learned how to continue training at home, and have always received support with any questions or concerns. We are so happy with the results, we drive an hour each way to board our dog with Innovative K9 when we have trips out of town. Now they offer pick up and drop off which makes it even more convenient! We unfortunately haven't had an opportunity to participate in the group lessons on Saturdays at the park. Johanna uses only positive training methods and has a vast knowledge of dog behavior/psychology. We have two dogs (one that is very neurotic) that started fighting (among other issues). These fights accelerated until it was almost a daily occurrence. When we started meeting friends and family anywhere but our house, we decided we needed help. Johanna came to our house, helped us to understand what was going on, set some goals with us and gave us detailed instructions to accomplish these goals. When my neurotic dog decided he was going to be scared of the clicker, Johanna immediately changed her methods to make him comfortable. When my other dog was so hard to motivate, she was so patient and explored many things to get his attention. When my husband and I would get frustrated, she would re-route that frustration into a calmness that allowed us to be able to train in a loving, successful way. Their clinical approach. Look, as pet parents-caretakers-owners-etc, we all have our biases and expectations. The team here is diverse. There's at least one who gets you and will tailor your animal's care. 3. Convenience. I've never had to wait more than a few days to meet with a vet and they do make accommodations for emergencies... though those are best left to Pet ERs. 4. My often nervous pitbull loves going. Seriously. What dog ever likes going to the vet? They treat her so well and keep everyone safe. They even make special accommodations on especially busy and chaotic days when I'm sure those in the waiting room could do without a pitbull meltdown. Which is awesome considering we go monthly for allergy treatments. No vet is perfect and they're certainly not omniscient. A good relationship requires communication and knowledge about any changes in your pet's behavior or physical condition. Follow up any recommendations with probing questions about side effects, alternatives, etc. The vet doesn't know what you don't know. To them, this is all old hat. Allow them to bring you up to speed and get involved with your animal's care. Ps. I love Dr. Cunningham. He always leads with the inexpensive folk remedies but knows his stuff on the latest and greatest medications.

I went in for a second opinion consultation on a minor issue with my dog. After an hour past my appointed time, I was finally called into the exam room. The doctor and assistant finally arrived, and I explained the situation. I was told they could perform the procedure but it would be costly because anesthesia would be required. The doctor looked over my dog quickly, and then the update began. I was told that she would at some point have issues with her left knee. So they could do the paw nail issue and the knee at the same time, saving me from paying for anesthesia twice. But the cost of that was 3 times the cost of the initial procedure. I said I would think about it, and the assistant took us back out to the front reception area. I asked to write down the pricing of the 2 procedures and gave her my credit card. She came back with the document, gave me back my card, and we left. 3 months later I start to get calls from this clinic claiming I owed them for the visit. I told them they had my card and that I had paid. This went on over and over again, no one ever telling me how much I owed, me saying I paid, and they would look into it. Then the threat of collections came, finally with the amount in question. I contacted my bank and there was never a charge from them to my card. So why did they have my card but never charge it? I paid in cash, got a receipt, and left. I will never go back. They are like used car dealerships. Always trying to upsell and add additional charges. There are much better places to take your pet. Any other place would be better than this place.

We have tried other places, but GSLDTC is the only one that has worked. I have also found that a lot of training has to do with ME. They have been so patient with Maggie, showing me how to handle situations peculiar to her. They have so many good ideas and methods for teaching both Maggie and me! I took my dog here at the Great Salt Lake Dog Training Club for beginner obedience. I have done a…read morelot of training on my own and wasn't sure if there would be anything new in the beginner class for us but I thought just filling in the gaps would be good. I found a HUGE gap. My standard poodle got very reactive. This is because her first owner was a very elderly woman and I don't think Lucy got much of any socialization. She would just bark for really no reason other than she was seeing movement, etc. It wasn't really improving so the trainer (who had tried many things to help) asked some other trainers there to evaluate and offer suggestions. We came up with some things that were helping & were going to try an e-collar but I had mentioned that I had used a spray bottle with water once that was initially for my cat. Well, turns out this is just what my Lucy needed to get her to stop and think. By the end of the 8 weeks she was barking less than any other dog there! And her reactivity in general was much better than before even thinking about starting classes. Yes, they are volunteers who many of them have been doing dog training for over 20 years. You don't need to be a "professional" to train dogs. That's ridiculous! They are great people who love dogs and want to help others. In my class alone everyone on the last day gave lots of kudos to the instructor and were very grateful for the class. Lots of improvement was apparent!! Skip the big box store training classes and meet new people and help a non-profit organization who really cares and offers a lot to the community.

If we had brought our other dog who doesn't do as well with other dogs (especially un-leashed), we wouldn't have been able to make it past the lobby to even get serviced. We specifically stated no shave / buzz. Just a cut for overgrown hair and to be able to deal with the hotter temperatures coming in the summer. The cut is un-even, and if we even had requested a shave, this low of a cut for this type of fur is not healthy for them at all. She's a medium long haired mix. They do not need a shave this low, ever. Though friendly, the person who took our dog in did not listen at all. I would not recommend this place to anyone. EDIT: Also just found out the owners now of this business is not the original. They've taken over the original owner as the owner passed away. They will take the positive reviews while blame the other company mentioned in another review, who actually is the successor of this business. Don't bring your pups here.
