I have been a member at the Centerville location of LTF for 6 months and below are pros and cons. Pro: 1. good equipment 2. kids club - We really enjoyed this until our kids got bored (after about 3-4 months) 3. Rock Climbing - my kids (and sometime even I) enjoyed it a lot. 4. Jacuzzi Con: 1. If you want to teach your own kids to swim after school during the weekdays, forget it. Lifetime swim school occupies every line and then some (even the areas where there is no lane) in the "kids side" pool. Even when they are not using it, they will not let you or your kids use it - that is normally from 5pm to 7:30pm. 2. I did not like their cafe - food and drink are just not as good.. 3. Some of the people who worked there were just rude. Some just did not like it when we asked questions about something they did not know. read more

This club has gone downhill over the last 2-3 years when the existing general manager took over. Her reputation with both members as well as her staff is that she could not care less about the gym's aesthetics/functionality, how the members feel or what they communicate. It is clear she only acts the 1-2 times a year she is given a heads up when corporate is visiting. Machines are constantly broken. when they are "fixed", they are working improperly. While lifetime offers towel service, all of those towels are disposed everywhere but the dirty towel bins. 9 times out of 10, the club is in complete disarray. LTF is the costliest of all clubs in the area and sadly, you just don't get what you pay for at the Centreville location. A quick visit to any other LTF will document this 7 days a week. A club with this much volume requires presence not absence, it does no good when a GM is locked in her office versus being visible throughout the club. read more

I have been a member since it opened in the late 90s. Let's get one thing straight.. LTF is by far the best gym in Northern Va.. They're just run by a bunch of idiots with no integrity. How hard is it to fix a treadmill? Or any machine for that matter.. People pay upwards of $100 to use this gym and that doesn't include the extra costs for classes. I could careless about razors and Q tips.. Renovate the locker rooms - make sure all the lockers work, keep all the machines up to date and working. This gym could be so much better.. If you visit the Reston/Sterling locations they blow this one out of the water (yes, I'm aware they're newer). Someone needs to step in and treat this gym like 10,000 people pay over $100 to use it..Which they do. read more

I've joined Centreville Lifetime about a year now. I think it's well worth it. Store manager Brian Taylor is very nice and helpful. General speaking, this facility is well managed. The employees are all very good. Especially like Mr. Aaron, he works very hard to keep everything clean. I will keep my membership for very long time. Money well spent! read more

This gym is very convenient to my residence, and has a friendly and kind child care center, and the facilities are open 24 hours daily (not the child center, obviously). They have a salon, pool, yoga studio, Pilates, parents-night-outs, massage therapy, and lots of gym equipment with knowledgeable staff. The swimming instructors for youth are very patient and skillful, which is a comfort. I can't say enough about the yoga program at this Lifetime. On account of the high monthly expense for the gym, I cannot rationalize going to Bikram anymore. However, because of the Hot Vinyasa classes, I feel like the expense evens out (considering the cost of Bikram at times). And, importantly, the Hot Vinyasa classes are enervating, exhausting, and effective. My first interaction with one of the trainers, though, felt like I was in a scripted sales pitch. That was incredibly off-putting, because I was hoping to meet with a trainer who could challenge me while also working with my limits, and not try to get me to spend even more money when the monthly fee is quite high. That trainer is no longer there, and I have worked twice with another trainer, who has met me where I am. Considering all of the amenities, and its location, Lifetime is as close to a Y as I can find near the area. The monthly fee (have I mentioned that it is expensive?) is not comparable to a Y, however. So there is no excuse, right? read more

This lifetime gym is very well run and managed. Their kids academy staff are friendly and good with children. We are very happy with the childcare here. They have a better handle on caring for kids than other lifetime kids academies we have been to before. The workout facilities are also top notch, we used to go to a diamond level club and this one is only platinum and I cannot see any real differences in the quality. I am very disappointed that Lifetime Fitness is continuing to charge me after I terminated my membership. Even after speaking to a manager who assured me that I would receive a reimbursement for charges after my membership was terminated, there has been no reimbursement. I've been using the gym everyday since I became a member a month ago. The gym is very big. It has a basketball court, requetball court, indoor swimming, sauna, spa, rock walls, and day care center on first floor. On the second floor, there's two large studios, one of which is used for cycling class, and a lot of machines and weights for all of you fitness fanatics out there. The membership price is a bit pricey, over hundred dollars, but given the fact that the gym offers a lot of amenities plus free classes, it's worth the price. There are problems that the gym falls short. Some of the lockers in the locker room are broken. To use the locker, the membership card is inserted into a slot, which enables the user to takeout the key for the locker. There were many times when I hassled moving my stuff from one locker to another until I found one that would let me take out the key. read more

I recently left this gym because the equipment is always broken! After canceling my membership in person and speaking with the GM ... I noticed that my account was still being charged. After calling the corporate office.. i was told I was placed on a less expensive plan where i can log onto the website and read about different exercises until the equipment was fixed. I am absolutley furious!!! WHy would I not go to a gym for several months and pay 12.00 a month when I can google exercises. The GM knew exactly what I wanted and got over on me. I have to send a registered letter to this office ... the main office and attorney to make sure I'm released on my 2nd attempt. GO SOMEPLACE ELSE ...TRUST ME! read more

Love the facility. it is clean for the traffic it sees. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The cafe food is good and staff is great. They have a good variety of equipment (for more extensive than a rehab facility) and the staff is always willing to explain or recommend. It has been great for my knee rehab. But OMG the clientelle. I have been hit on the head by a fellow swimmer because I didn't know the swim lane rules. Some Members are unwilling to share the spaces in the pool, machines, and the spaces in the locker room. no manners. Some of this is cultural and yet some is Fairfax county sense of entitlement. There is not much LTF can do about this, just be aware of it when you join. Or try Loudoun. read more

Im not the first one to say this but it is very overpriced and are completely after your money. They broke my contract without letting me know and charged me for the change that THEY made. Nice Gym. Price is a little steep if you just want to do one thing, but its always been clean, no broken equipment etc. the only reason im doing 4 out of 5 is the guest policy is kinda ridiculous. They give you tons of passes, but what they didnt tell me was that it has to be a new guest each time, its something like 60 days before the same guest can visit again. read more

Finally, wife and I decided to drop our membership after coming here for a couple of years. Yes, this place is huge and has a lot of amenities. However, it's extremely crowded in the afternoon on a week day. The good thing it's open 24 hours. We either come here very early in the morning or very late in the evening. The issue is there is limited of classes offered early or late, and most of the classes after 5:00 pm are jammed packed with people. For two membership close to a couple of hundred dollars a month, they could do a better job of keeping the bathroom, sauna, Jacuzzi,a and the equipment clean. We saw a lot of sales people and trainers around, but there are only a handful of people keeping up the facility and equipment. read more

I just did warrior sculpt for the first time and it was really good!! I thought the instructor was great she came over after the class and we chatted for a bit and gave me tips and a free shirt. I believe the experience is an overall positive one. However, if you're looking to swim for cardio, you may want to join Oak Marr instead. Their lap pool is VERY small, 4 or 5 lanes, and most of the time no one ever follows the signs for lane speed. I'll be in the lane working on a 2400 and then some older person will jump in next to me and walk up and down the lane in the center of it (it happens ALL the time). My only other major gripe about it, is actually not about the gym itself, but the patrons. I can't speak for the women's locker room, however, the mens locker room can be quite disgusting at times. What drives me insane are the dudes that are taking showers and blowing their noses in the showers and spitting all over the place. Make sure you bring flip-flops! I've finally resorted to going later at night for my workouts, too bad the pool isn't 24/7 like the main gym. Hope this helps some of you. ---- Update (7/6/2011): After thinking about this review, I realized I gave an inflated star rating. This place is a mess; dirty, the personal trainer I had (Abbey) was fired because she kept coming to all her sessions late (not just with me) and wasting client time - the replacement trainer I had did not push me hard enough and concentrated on workouts that weren't helping me. I asked for a refund for my remaining months but was denied as personal training service is "non-refundable" I was told. I ended up quitting the gym and now just use my apartments facilities - less crowded - clean - not as many machines - but free weights and no crowd makes up for that. read more

The gym itself is nice, but the customer service at this Lifetime location BLOWS. I was a member at the LT in Fairfax for a long time and really enjoyed it, so when I moved closer to Centreville I opened up a membership at this location. After moving to an apartment with a gym I decided I didn't need my membership anymore. That's where the problems started. Months later I started being harassed by their "membership services" daily claiming I owed them almost 400 dollars for dues during months in which my membership was supposed to be cancelled. The people I dealt with (mainly a guy named Spenser) were absolutely horrible and refused to admit error on their end, even though I signed my cancellation in person. I have no idea how they get away with treating people like this. They will do ANYTHING to try to keep you as a member of their club. I will never EVER open up a membership here ever again (which is a shame, because the actual gym is pretty nice). read more

This place is a disaster from a customer service standpoint. They have not realized if you are charging 100 plus a month you need to provide more than just a gym. ok... so I'm out visiting the family back in the east coast and wanted to keep a workout routine in place while out here.... I know most gyms are affiliated with some other gyms coast to coast so I called and found out... turns out Life Time Fitness was one of the participating partners which is cool because this place is much better than the gym I go to back in Oakland (24 hr)... I guess if I had to compare it, it would be close to ClubOne or even Bally's (I've had both in the past), however, I do have to say, Club One offers a few more extra perks such as shampoo, conditioner, mouth wash, lotion, combs, brushes, and fresh towels stacked around everywhere.... BUT... Life Time fitness, does offer soap, but what they do have are extra services which can equal up to comparison... this place is 24 hour, has several lap pools, large Jacuzzi's, a recreational pool with two large twisty slides (great for family memberships), dry heat room, eucalyptus mist sauna room, you can get all your beauty needs taken care of as well as two huge gymnasiums for B-ball or V-ball.... I did not see racquet ball in this particular facility, but I've read they do provide. They have an awesome child center with children's programs for those parents out there wondering. I've been coming here everyday for over a week since I really love the Jacuzzi and sauna action and yes... I have been working out too.... I do miss my spin classes... which I will Have to get back to when I get back to the East Bay... especially after Turkey Day! This particular fitness center is located mostly in the mid-west towards the east coast, OH, TX, GA, NC, FL, VA, KS, MD, and a few others. The only drawback is the price... if you don't mind spending the extra comparable to the higher end gyms, then I would recommend this... it really is worth it even without the extra toiletries. Just adding to this post that I went again and did see raquet ball rooms... they were on the inside of the gymnasiums... this place is quite big... lots to do to keep busy and fit! read more

The lifetime price here gets you premium locker room facilities, nice pool, leisure pool with slides for the kids, great child center, and a good selection of classes. I am a current member. And while I like the gym, this Gym is a money sucker. Though they make it look like its standard single fee (you can cancel whenever you want) lot of things are not shared upfront by sales team. The sales team is like a car salesman team. They need to get you sign the membership. Nothing wrong in that but they never share the hidden costs. Now enough of complaining. Here are some pros and cons followed by the hidden/high costs Pros: - Nice Gym - 24 hours - Swimming Pool is clean and well maintained - Child Center - Lot of amenities - Ample parking - Makes you feel like you are pampered. Cons: - Expensive - Lap Pool is only 4 FT deep. Really.... - Too many restrictions for kids for the Swimming Pool (even the kids pool) - Its been 4 months I got signed up and wanted to use my initial 100 LT bucks for a swim lesson for my kids. They say its all booked. I bet it is booked because I am a free loader. Now the hidden and high fees: - No matter when you go to cancel the membership, they will tell you that you have to pay for next month too. They give some BS about billing cycle. Yeah Right !!! - I had my kids added to my membership. When I went back to cancel their membership, there is a $15 processing fee. Hmmm.. so you are going to charge me for next month using your billing cycle excuse plus a 15$ fee...WTF... - They say they give you free LT bucks. But some of the good stuff you can buy using LT Bucks is only available for those LT bucks that you earn by referring a friend. Bad idea. So they want to give us the good stuff only if we get them business... Not if we sign up ourselves.. that tells you the mentality ... - They always sell Platinum membership. No one talks about basic membership. - They sell you discounts on their spa services by having you pay using your LT Bucks. Thats a f'd up way of discounting. Why can't they just say that they will give $100 off on a spa service if I had $100 LT Bucks. But they make it difficult for you to use any LT bucks for spa services. - The Fitness session costs are high. They have internally laddered their trainers into different levels. The supposedly experienced one charges you 100+ per hour. (By the way I had a talk with one of the experienced ones.. he is nothing more than a sales man himself... telling me philosophical BS for 30 mins). Net net.. if you are a regular gym goer, this gym is for you. Sign up for the 24 hour access, neat facility, several options... but don't expect to save any money. I go to this gym because it is very very close to my home. But I really do not like the lack of transparency in deal with the staff when it comes to cost etc. Be prepared to pay up. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE! My friend takes her two kids to the child place when we go to the gym, and every time we go, the workers are always glued to their phone and ignoring the crying babies and carry on with their conversation. They don't care about them! On our way to pick them up (because you only get a certain amount of time, understandable) the girl supervisor picked up my friends son by HIS LEFT ARM. The kid was crying because she hurt him! That's no way to pick up a kid! Go when the male is there, he is great and actually does a fantastic job taking care of the little ones. read more

I was in here yesterday. I was not having a great day so I stopped into the LifeCafe. I wanted something light and satisfying. The Cashier (Alex) greeted me with a smile asked me how I was doing. I told him I was not so well and didn't know what to get that wouldn't be to heavy on my stomach. He recommended a vegan protein shake which I thoroughly enjoyed. I've had memberships to four different gyms so far; all was due to moving. Life time is extremely expensive, especially for a gym that is overcrowded. Although they have a lot of equipment, I often had to wait for machines. I feel they did not efficiently purchased (an army of treadmills) or placed items in the gym. The showers are disgusting! I've lived in a dorm with one bathroom per floor and it wasn't even that gross. After one time I did not want to go back. I tried to cancel my membership and they gave me an extremely hard time. They kept trying to keep me there and repeated the same robotic phrases. I had to speak to three people to cancel my membership and was charged and extra $20 for not canceling my membership "fast enough" or before the month ended. My family constantly complained to me that they would not stop calling the house phone to get them into the gym (several times a week). Everyone in my family works, my mom working everyday, and does not have time for the gym. Lifetime's annoying employees made this an absolute stressful experience for all of us. This is a great gym if you are able to avoid the peak hours in the morning (before work) and in the evening (after work) when everyone seems to want to work out there. If you are a stay-at-home mom, which I am, then this gym is perfect for you. They have a daycare center, which allows you to drop your kids off while you go and enjoy your workout. They have plenty of elliptical machines, StairMaster, treadmills and weights available, as long as you avoid peak hours. I have also taken yoga classes at Lifetime and have always enjoyed them. Although I would recommend getting there 5 - 10 minutes early if you want a good seat in the class. We have also signed my 4-year old up for swimming lessons there, which is really hit or miss with the swim instructors. The first session we had a wonderful instructor who really worked with the kids and seemed to know what she was doing. The last session we enrolled my son in, the instructor did not pay any attention to the students and would allow her son and husband to visit her during the brief 30 minute lesson. I would recommend finding an instructor that you like and taking private lessons with them. Also, if you take your child(ren) swimming during "family" swim time, I would highly recommend planning on closely supervising your child(ren) since the family pool can tend to be crowded with too many children for one lifeguard to keep track of. read more

This club has gone completely downhill from what it once was. The basketball court monitor "Kwame" is an incompetent jerk who really believes the entire basketball court area is his kingdom. Beyond the fact that there is only one basket and 30 people playing on it on the one side of the gym he had the audacity to tell my friend and I that we must pay an additional fee to play on the open side because they were having a "tournament". There was a grand total of 4 people on that side so I'm not really sure how a tournament was being held. Beyond that when I mentioned I was waiting on a few more guys to come he said we were not allowed to be on that side of the court any longer due to him having just sanitized it and that we must go in the other side bc apparently The health of the people on the other side doesn't matter. He's ruining what little reputation the Centerville location still has and there's literally not one person who agrees with what he's doing and that gym. GET RID OF KWAME. read more

Wife bought me a membership as a surprise for father's day. Was so stoked to have a 24 hour gym so close to home. Stopped by with the family after Father's Day lunch to hopefully get a tour of the gym. Only problem was, they didn't have time for me. In fact, they didn't even have the time to tell me that they didn't have time for me. My family and I waited in the lobby for more than 20 minutes, after being told someone would be by to help us 'soon' repeatedly. When someone finally did stop by, he informed us that he didn't have much time to talk to us because he had an appointment to try and sell another membership coming in a few minutes. In other words, they let us sit in the lobby for 20 minutes, only to tell us that they didn't have time to help us. And since it was pretty clear that they had our money, and since there was no new commission to be made, we wouldn't be getting any help. We left and I called the direct line of the rep who sold the membership to my wife. I left a message expressing that I was somewhat upset and would like her to call me back. So was supposed to be back 'soon', but I got no return call. After two hours I called again. And again. And again. When she finally answered and said "I haven't had time to listen to your message", I ended the call and drove in to cancel my membership. This was day 1. Not even 24 hours into a membership that costs $90 a month, and they couldn't find the time to show me around the place. They were too busy selling new memberships... It's not uncommon to find a business that has all the time in the world for you before they have your business, but no time at all once they've got your cash in their pocket. What is unusual is for a business to be so blatant and in your face about it. read more

I've been a member since 2011. I originally loved it. There were lots of good working equipment and I used everything: personal training, beauty salon (massages, hair, nails, etc.). However, they've recently changed the entire layout, removed a lot of equipment, free weights are disorganized and missing, non-working equipment, personal trainers and salon gets more and more expensive. I think they are getting too focused on small group stuff. I just want a gym to work out in and $92 a month is just too much for that. They do have very nice people working in the lobby. Though recently I was asked by a trainer upstairs to leave a machine because a class was starting soon. I was ticked. It was the last straw. I've canceled my membership as of the end of September. read more

Our family have been members here for well over a decade. Overall it is a great club. HOWEVER, over the past few months, there are never any lockers available in the mens locker room even when the gym is empty late at night. The only way this can be happening is if people are keeping their lockers long term. It is frustrating and going to lead us to look elsewhere for working out. Given how expensive the monthly membership fees are, not have available lockers is a HUGE negative. read more

I haven't been to this gym in over a year because I have moved. each month they still continued to charged me until it added up to over $1000 wasted on not going to the gym. they have not called me to ask if I wanted to cancel my membership. I called to ask if I can cancel it over the phone but apparently you have to come into the location and do it in person. then after canceling it I asked if I could get a refund of some of the money wasted. told me to call corporate. they were no help. the lady on the phone was very mean. so don't waste time over this place. they only want you for your money. read more

if you have an out of town guest who would like to use the gym, i suggest they get a gym pass elsewhere. This gym doesn't look kindly on guests based on my experience. They only give passes for a few days and not even a week. I visit my family in VA once or twice a year and they have given me passes for a week or more previously but with my most recent visit they said they changed the policies and a guest pass longer than a week would be a "breach of integrity". I don't know how using a treadmill constitutes a "breach of integrity" but hey...i dont work here. Needless to say, did not feel very welcome or enthusiastic about going to this place. I used the pass twice and switched to another gym halfway through my "pass period". Also, just noticed people pay $100+ for this gym? At that price, I think you'd be better off with Equinox albeit not nearby. Otherwise, the treadmill equipment is new and the female locker room is clean. read more

I called in last night because I was interested in signing up for a membership. Granted, it was a little late (probably 11pm) but the guy who answered the phone, was a dick from the jump. I had a few questions about the gym in general, (such as the amenities and what the basic package included) but the guy cut me off mid sentence and said "you need to call back later, I don't have that information in front of me." Seriously?! You don't know ANYTHING about the gym in which you work???? And you couldn't take MY info and have someone call me back like normal places do? I get that it was late, but there was no need for the rudeness that came across in his voice. They need to work on customer service skills, and glancing through past reviews, I'm not the only one who thinks so. No wonder why they can't seem to keep customers. read more
