We've been members of Lifetime for awhile. Generally, we have been happy there. My children have attended swim classes there since they were 2 and I really enjoy the swim teachers and pool facilities. We also like the Kid club and even hosted a birthday party there (which was perfect!). One very strong word of warning though- the lifeguards are horrible. There have been multiple times when we have seen lifeguards on duty in the indoor pool watching their phone instead of the water. One time, we even saw a lifeguard with an earbud in watching TikTok. We took a picture and immediately tried to report her but there was no manager on duty. We told the front desk instead and they assured they would do something about it. If you bring your small children to the pool, just be warned that you have to watch them. Do not rely on the life guards. I haven't had an issue with the outdoor pool life guards, but the indoor ones not good. You are supposed to be in the pool with your child if they can't swim but they also allow parents to blatantly ignore the rule. read more

Membership will go up insane and Kayla from the front desk is a bitch, pardon my language. I was there at 5:30am with my 60 year old mother. I was told my guest passes were up and If I wanted to bring her in it would cost us $75. She told me she couldn't make an exception and was very rude and cold in her approach. I HIGHLY recommend going to a different gym. She could've said the exact same thing in a completely different way. My mother even questioned if it was because we are Hispanic. On top of that they charged my brother 3 months of membership AFTER he cancelled his membership and refused to give him a refund after it was clearly a miscommunication. read more

I am a member of Renew Active thru United Health, which means I am entitled to a free membership with restrictions. However, I go today to sign up and I'm told there is a wait list for Renew Active members. But if I would like to upgrade my membership to Lifetime Signature at a discounted rate of 150.00 per month there is no wait list. So if I spend $150.00 per month I'm in if not I'll just have to wait till someone cancels their membership. I was told this policy only went into effect today. With so many gyms and so many available on Renew Active I will join a different gym. read more

I joined this gym back in 2019 and I had very much enjoyed its amenities, my comments although are targeted directly at the Garden City location - in that time since joining I picked up playing pickleball which has now become a major part of the community there however , the staff have egged players into this competitive frienzy - if pickleball is your reason for joining I advise you look elsewhere - members will ask your skill level and close you out - it's something the staff has very much made and have no intention of changing - the pool and equipment are very well maintained it's just a very cold and unfriendly gym that's just become more cold and isolating - save your money and look elsewhere read more

I've been a member for 6 years. This used to be a high-end club and now seems like the YMCA. The gym is packed and filthy. I lost an item, called 9 times to speak to lost and found, and still haven't received a call back. Very rarely does the front desk pick up the phone. I just looked up these reviews and it's good to know it's not just me. So I just called the front desk and whoever picked up was disgustingly rude. She told me that garbage everywhere seems like "a parental issue" not the gym's problem, and that they're crowded because it's summer, and they're at FULL CAPACITY for the gym. I said I haven't been able to use the family changing room because there's never any available lockers and she said "ok, so what." I asked if they plan on adding additional facilities being that they have additional members and therefore additional money. She said no. Then she said "I don't know what to tell you." I asked for her name and she hung up the phone immediately. Called back twice and of course nobody picked up the phone. My family pays nearly $500/ month and will be finding a new gym after summer. read more

This place has been run amuck. It's a mess. the people do not seem to care whatsoever. The General Manager Kenny or Kevin is terrible. Absolutely terrible. Speaking to him is equivalent to speaking to a wall. He is either frazzled or completely lost when discussing legitimate concerns. my family and I have been members of lifetime garden city for 7+ years, and sadly this gym has just fallen off the proverbial cliff in the last 2 years. ever since the former GM edwin left, and was replaced by the former training manager Kenny this place just keeps getting worse and worse! Under Edwins leadership this gym was very clean, members had some etiquette, rules actually existed (and were followed), locker rooms/facilities were well maintained, members were held accountable for their (and their guests) behavior, constructive criticism was welcomed and changes that needed to be made to improve the overall club experience were actually made! That's what happens when a general manager you know....MANAGES. Kenny, however, does none of those things, yet we've been hit with two membership price increase under his regime. We mentioned this to him and he said there is nothing that can be done, however I know for a fact other families WHO JOINED AFTER US SOMEHOW PAY LESS My husband and I have even mentioned this and some of our other gripes about the deteriorating conditions (and seemingly simple fixes) of the club in casual conversations to various staff members in different departments throughout the gym we have come to know over our 7 years at LT Garden City, like the kids club, lifeguards, locker room attendants, etc. and without mentioning those employees names they all give the same feedback, just drive the extra 15 minutes and go to the Syosset location because their hands are tied, and that the new Manager Kenny has no clue what he is doing and that he should never have been promoted to GM. It's honestly astounding how much better the Syosset location seems to be run in our few visits there. Ever since Kenny took over the only thing that has gone up are my membership dues. Ever single other aspect of the club has gotten worse. Many other members and myself have Mentioned this to Kenny many times over, and absolutely nothing ever gets done! he even thanked me for bringing some of these complaints to his attention, as if this was the first time he was learning about the condition of as he put it "his club". Um excuse me, but it's not your club Kenny, the club is shared by all the PAYING members! And again ever since you took over "your club" every single aspect of it has gotten worse. The women's locker room is disgusting, many lockers don't work, the women's sauna is always out of order, hair, towels and dirt are everywhere. Now the showers even have those little flies using all about in them. Mentioned to Kenny, even wrote email to corporate, and again nothing ever gets done. The gym floor has become an LA fitness, overcrowded, weights everywhere except on the racks, dirty mats, trainers constantly hitting on the pretty ladies, trainers using 3 machines at a time to train their clients, dirty Towels everywhere, etc. it would also be nice to have an actual cleaning service clean the free Weights/squat rack/machine area of the gym instead of trainers. Mentioned this to the new training manager as well, and he didn't even look up for his phone, just said thanks we're working on it. Never once have I seen him approach any member about following the rules, and maintaining good gym etiquette. The pool area is even worse, just Complete chaos in there. no system of organization whatsoever. Again mentioned to Kenny that the lap lanes should be for people actually SWIMMING LAPS, and leisure pool for all other leisure activities like walking, floating or children playing. and this review is before the annual summer pool season sh#*$ show begins, when they allow 1000's of "new pool members" to join (without adding any additional staff, machines, chairs, towels, lockers, etc. to service the increase in members...essentially ruining the gym going experience for us year round members! To be fair, in any club that gets the foot traffic every day that this gym gets, there are going to be Machines that break, things that go awry, and a few "rotten egg " gym members with no etiquette or regard for others. But also, to be fair, we have been to the syosset location a few times in the Last two years and it's Astounding how much better the experience is over there. it's been almost two years since Edwin left, and ask any long time member, and they'll tell you the same thing about new management and the conditions and experience of the club under Kenny....straight downhill Sadly. Hopefully corporate will read this and actually make some changes in personnel. We truly believe that a new, more suitable GM would be able to restore this club to its former glory days under Edwin. My family and I have honestly tried to give new management the benefit of the doubt, and some time to make some changes because change is hard, but this is now the second time in less than two years my family membership has had price increases and have Been left with far inferior club. read more

Before the pandemic the yoga studio at lifetime used to have such a strong community. It has not been able to rebuild its infrastructure since the pandemic. I wonder what is going on? They only have a few senior instructors teaching and the schedule hours are not full. I wish the atmosphere could be like it was before pandemic. Classes were packed, there was a lot of diversity in the class schedule to pick from and instructors were more senior and work together, not independently as they do now. read more

Went to this gym for years and absolutely loved it. They recently started letting students in the gym for super cheap while increasing our memberships by almost a third. I appreciate the thought of it but we pay a crazy amount for this gym to get away from the kids filming themselves in the gym and sitting on one piece of equipment for over an hour while staring at their phones. Made it so you get the same exact experience in any other gym so why pay 6 times the amount anymore. The final straw was trying to workout on the stair master and watching 3 girls film each other for no more than 15 seconds on a piece of cardio equipment going as hard as they could then jumping to the next and doing the same over and over again. A once amazing gym that still has incredible potential that is catering to young kids with no gym etiquette. read more

I liked this gym during Covid. It was Covid clean. Now I'm paying $249 a month with senior discount. It went up $50 since Covid, last year. I'm paying more for a dirty gym. Today I went to Lifetime, Garden City with my friend to a spin class which was lead by instructor Jamaal. I don't usually go to classes but this was so much fun and challenging and I felt exhausted and accomplished by the end. The facility itself was very clean and the gym felt so alive. I even got to meet the manager Clay and he was very kind and personable. Thankful for another positive experience at a different Lifetime facility. Let me start of by saying that my entire family decided to join & they come 5x a week regularly for the past 2-3 years. Yes it is a bit pricey but looking at the amount of classes, new equipments, constant cleaning services & the amount of specious environment you get in a gym... well it's definitely worth every penny. This is like a family retreat/ spa type of gym where everyone treat each other with respect. When you come often, people recognize you & treat you like family. There are so many types of classes you can select from. The cafe is great as well. I love their avocado toast which is only $3 and refillable coffee! Yes some other things are a bit on the pricier side but it's obviously not a must to dine at the cafe. You're welcome to take a 1 min drive down to Trader Joe's and grab a salad. read more

Update 2: the gym literally cut and pasted a response to my post. I am sadly still a member and hate the gym really badly. This just shows that management doesn't give a single F about their members. This is a rant because I'm not sure how a gym like this can stay in business. Low end members at a high end gym is at a minimum, confusing. This is an updated review because lifetime reported my first review for being too truthful. What is the point of writing a review if it is censored? Expletives and rational judgment calls about the members have been omitted. I'm going to make this short; the weights are not re-racked by the unpleasant members. Let me be really clear here; there are virtually zero staff members on the gym floor cleaning during the day/night. Because the "members" attend the gym, they need to have constant monitoring when it comes to cleanliness and putting numbers in ascending (or descending) order. Yes, the "members" are unable to put weights in order by number and noone is around to correct this issue. The gym has no guns signs posted, no shoes signs posted, doesn't respond to complaints in their internal suggestion box, let people yell in the locker room, has soggy wraps in the shop and honestly I can't believe that the membership rate is more than a standard $39 per month because that is what you get read more

I would like to start by staying this gym was a really nice and clean gym they offer so much so the price seems steep but really isn't at all. The only reason why i left a 3 star and not 5 is for an employee or manager I'm not sure which position he plays. If I'm correct he was a tall Caucasian man at the front desk i think his name was Eddie. Long story short Eddie had been the person to sign up my friend who had just got a membership. She brought me in on July 6th Tuesday around 4pm it was so hot that day so she let me use her guest pass and i paid the $60 for the outside pool. I currently go to retro because of convenience i also didn't know about this gym. I had a great time everything was amazing until the end of my visit. As me and my friend were walking out we stopped at the front desk to get more information because my niece has a daughter and wanted to possibly join etc for swimming classes etc. as we're being talked to by someone else Eddie walks to front desk. My friend notices him and says "hey you're the one that actually signed me up can we get more info for my girl because she is currently looking to switch gyms. He asks me "which gym do you go to?" I responded "retro fitness" he gave me the look of disgust. As soon as i responded with the name of my gym he no longer wanted to deal with me he went to another customer & that was basically the end of our conversation. Mean while he's moving to another Client my friend was literally still tryin you talk to him. I noticed he then began to basically ignore us which i definitely noticed immediately so i then didn't want to be there anymore. I grabbed my friends arm telling her let's go i have to go anyways. I honestly wasn't in a rush a was just embarrassed i felt like after i said where i worked out i was gym shamed/budget shamed which is not the case. I was actually at the front desk to sign up i just wanted more info for my niece BUT was so embarrassed by the look he gave me and the lack of attention/respect after my response that left a bad taste in my mouth. I want it to be known that i HOPE the employees get paid off each person they sign up because i will be back just not to sign up through him. He LITERALLY had a whole Sale on front of his face and because he probably thought i couldn't afford it or something i was immediately dismissed. While i was trying to join you guys he was too busy judging where i currently work out at. Great gym/pool/spa area like i said i def recommend BUT eddie was definitely not a great person to put at the front desk. I love, love, love this gym!!! Every time I am walking out of the gym, I literally tell myself, "I love this gym". I've been a member at many different gyms and none has given me the experience I have had at Lifetime. The gym is a bit on the pricey side, you would think that its full of rich snooty people but it is actually not. This is a lifestyle and people that go there are going there to fulfill their life style. There are people that spend money on shoes and electronics, people that go here spend their money on their health. I go here for the peaceful experience I have every time I workout, I hate going to crowded gyms, get pushed around, having to wait for gym equipment or machines. I have everything at my finger tips and the staff is so awesome! I just love this place, and you can't really change my mind about it. There is only one thing that I do not like about this place and its during the summer or holiday days when the families are there with their ten million children, it gets over crowded and annoying but besides that I love this gym!!!! If I were to give any suggestions to management is to fix the locker doors in the locker rooms. The women sauna smells like urine and the shower heads in the showers are starting the get all wonky. And the lap pool connected to the kiddie pool grosses me out but other than that I love this gym. Also the lap pool is way too cold, i feel like one of those old men that go swimming in the arctic every time I go for a swim. I'm updating my review since I've been here a few months now. I love the gym - the only thing I can't stand is the amount of children in here. Too many children, even since school has started back up. I'm here trying to workout, not play. The locker rooms are full of children and the hot tubs are full of them too. (Even though it says 12 and older) This isn't just a gym, it's a health club! It has everything you can ever want, including a full salon, cafe, indoor/outdoor pool, outside restaurant/bistro, kids academy, etc! I joined memorial day weekend - yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it! Evan gave me a tour of the 3 floor club, as well as signed me up for membership. He was professional, courteous and really wanted to know my fitness goals. I actually can't wait to go to the gym!!!! read more

What a great gym. My home gym was Syosset but since Garden City opened its much closer to my home......Garden City is it! My wife and I are very happy to have this gym here. Likes: - Service, the staff is very friendly and professional. - Equipment is well kept. - Classes are good. Instructors make the classes fun and are very motivating. Huge yoga, spin and studio rooms. Very Clean - Locker rooms are huge and well kept. Attendants are available through all hours of the day, maintaining the locker room. - Cafe has a great selection of shakes and freshly made food. - Huge Basketball Court - They definetely listen and follow through with suggestions as long as its within reason. - Great kids activity room for a small fee. I have not used the outdoor pool since the gym opened in December. So needless to say I can't wait till the outdoor pool opens. If I am comparing to the Syosset location, Garden City is missing a few things such as the rock climbing wall, a true MMA room and a lower prices in the cafe. Not a big loss.... Overall, great gym. Beats all of the surrounding gyms by a long shot. read more

This gym isn't what it used to be. When changes are made to the gym, members should be made aware. It's not fair to pay for something, then have it taken away without notice. One full basketball court has been taken away for a pickeball court which is barely used. This concern should be taken to corporate and changes should be made to accommodate the majority of the gym. If anybody from lifetime reads this, If you care about your members, you would take this serious and take this to corporate or whoever's decision it was to take out the other half of the court. read more

So the gyms opened up yesterday. I hate to say it but the vibe is so different. Before it was all about being around like-minded people and those who are motivated. Now it's more like everyone trying to avoid each other and you can tell some were a little scared. 85% of people were putting their mask below their nose because it was difficult to breathe while working out. Some I saw working out without a mask faced the opposite direction of the workers trying to not get caught. Not everyone cleaned the machines after they used them. I also saw no workers cleaning the machines constantly. We are not allowed to use the Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, basketball courts..... We are paying high prices for a luxury gym now just for their updated workout equipment ,classes and pool... They won't even discount us, which is absolutely beyond me. Hopefully someone will help us. Because if we are using only half of the gym, I believe that we should only be paying half of the price. Their constant message back is that we have credits left from the month that had Covid and we can put our account on hold for free.... geee thanks We pay as a couple and have been there for years..... I was swimming on 11/10/22 and was shocked to see green moss on the bottom of the pool on the sides. I was also disgusted to see bandaids on the bottom of the pool. They took out a whole basketball court to accommodate the pickle ball playing crowd. Now the courts get crowded even just to shoot around. I've also seen long lines to wait and play basketball now since they are now condensed to one court, meanwhile the pickle ball court is empty. They should have just left the basketball court and allotted time to play pickle ball as opposed to taking away a whole basketball court permanently. The outdoor pool literally gives resort vibes! Me, my husband and our 14 month old daughter enjoyed our weekends and some evenings after work poolside chilling. They have 3 separate locker rooms: men's, women's and family so it makes it much more easier to bathe a little one and change them and shower and change ourselves while having our own space and privacy. The staff is so friendly from the people at the front desk to the daycare. The classes are great: there's so many to choose from and so many different timings. It's very clean and there's always towels available, soap and shampoo in the showers. Overall they know what's up and it feels like a country club. I work out there sometimes too (lol) but my husband plays basketball and works out 4 times a week. This place keeps us all sane in one way or another :) read more

Depending on your goals, Lifetime has so much to offer, a wide variety of equipment, all very impressive along with plenty of free weights. The staff is a pleasure, parking can be tight at times but you will always find a spot. I highly recommend the Saunas/Steam room in restrooms. Areas are kept very clean. The prices are very fair. This review is for personal training. I had purchased a special 4-session training package. My trainer said that because he was new he had to build up x number of clients in a month in order to get a raise. I didn't "count" because I bought only 4 sessions, so it didn't help him. That was crappy of him to say. It's not my job to buy more sessions so he can get a raise. I wanted training to help me get back into a groove of working out, to feel more confident on the floor. Instead it was clear that I was wasting my trainer's time. He seemed pretty bored during sessions, I guess uninterested is a better way to describe it. It also sucked that while the sessions were supposed to be for an hour, we worked out for 45 mins and the last 15 we sat in the lounge area where he kept trying to sell me more training. Why would I buy training from a guy who didn't give a shit about my progress, just my wallet? That's garbage. I liked the guy, I wish him well, but I'll never NEVER do pt at lifetime again. You know the ads - "oh training at lifetime we're invested in you blah blah success stories with people who really care about your progress" - bullshit. BTW I only went for three of my sessions, not four. Why? Because I was embarrassed to "waste his time." He would talk to other guests on the floor anyway while we were working out - he said he was trying to pick up clients - that was also shitty. read more

I have only positive words regarding Lifetime Garden City, and I travel there from Queens! This club has literally saved my life in the midst of this COVID-19 Pandemic. EVERYTHING IS SPOTLESS! Between classes, the instructors spray down the mats/equipment so members can simply focus and enjoy without worrying about spreading germs. The past mgt thanked members for watching out for the facility. The current mgt looks to squash the helpful members. In my opinion as a business owner myself would welcome such criticisms to improve the facility. The past gm wanted the eyes on the gym. This current gm does not as it must expose his lack of capacity to manage correctly. Your fitness manager walks around like he's angry at the world. Does not want any constructive discussion. Thus his trainers are sub par and do not look out for your facility, just their own goals. It's a people business, any feedback to such is constructive as it makes mgt aware of what is possibly going on. The previous gm welcomed this. The current hides from it. LOVE this gym (country club)!!! The people that work here are mostly soo positive & inspiring!! Always ready to help with a smile on their face! It's not cheap ($180 per month for single membership ) but for what they have to offer.... I feel definitely worth it. A few large pools (both inside & outside) with aquatics classes with some great teachers. These are intermediate classes not beginner classes where you just get wet. These are rigorous workouts using weights & noodles . The place itself is very clean. All you need to bring is a change of clothes. They supply as many clean towels as you need. They also supply... shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant, razors, q-tips, makeup remover, hair dryers etc. Included in the membership are many, many different classes that you can sign up for... barre etc. Check out their website for ALL they have to offer. Also... included in the membership are 2 free guest passes per month. It's family friendly with daycare provided. There's a hair salon, healthy food cafe & too many more amenities to mention. I LOVE this place! Best thing I've done for myself in a long time! read more

Life Time - Trainers Near Me - Garden City, New York

I have been a member for serval years, and I notice that my membership benefits have decreased, while the monthly cost have increased. I recently notice that I cannot sign-up for GTX classes, and now notice I cannot sing-up for pickle ball. I was told that my cost would greatly increase if I wanted this service. I have left several messages for a manager to call me to discuss my membership, and no one have returned my call. I am unhappy with what I am paying for my Lifetime membership, and with the group fitness classes that are available to me. The Garden City area have many options to new fitness facilities that I need to consider. Waiting to hear back from management. It's a shame, but I may never get a call back from a manager that would want to convince me to keep me as a membership. I'm just a number that keeps paying, and they will find others to con and maintain their profits. Let's see what happens. I will start looking at other fitness facilities recently opened in the Garden City area. read more
