I was impressed when I joined last year: very big, lots of group exercise classes, steam room in the women's locker room area! It's pretty clean, and they always have lots of towels. I am usually very friendly, so it took me a while to come to the conclusion that many of the other members at this place are just rude and snobby. Is it because it's in Sugar Land, so people believe they are supposed to act this way? I don't know. I like the amenities, but it is geared more toward families. Arriving early for group exercise is a must, so I get there at least 10 minutes before class starts. I usually don't mind accomodating families but today when a woman "reserved" a whole section for her family, and asked me to move, it really rubbed me the wrong way. This wasn't the first time that has happened; feels almost like if you go alone you better be ready to accomodate the members who are there with people. I have only had one issue with staff being rude, but pretty much everyone I run into here is in a hurry, and not very friendly. As usual, the men stare a lot which is about as friendly as it gets at this place. It is usually very crowded, and I rarely find a close parking spot. It does cost more than other places, and I will be cancelling. I had to call customer service once, and by her tone, it seemed like the rep was ready to argue, but I was nice so she had no choice but to be professional. 2.5 Stars because I expected better but this place is pretty typical. read more

I'm a former member at the lifetime in lake Houston, but I moved to sugar land and started a membership today the first thing I notice there is no sauna for women only. Throughout the years, I have belonged to many of the gyms around Houston as well as a few clubs. At one time or another I have been a member at Fit, 24 Hour, Bally's, River Oaks Gym and I have been to the Houstonian and Houstonian Lites, as well as a few others. While I did enjoy working out at Fit and the Houstonian places, Lifetime will keep me for quite some time. It has hundreds of cardio machines from ellipticals and treadmills to stair mills and bikes. I have never had a problem getting one even in prime time. I also like that there is a dedicated indoor lap pool. I use it sometimes as well. As for the free weights and weight machines, the selection is top notch. There are more machines than I have ever seen. They may not have every thing I want (none ever do) but I still find just what I need and always have good workouts there. As a bonus, the locker room is very nice and the lockers are readily available. As much as I like it, what prevents the fifth star are a few quibbles. The family focus is fine and dandy but there are simply too many kids in the weight lifting area, despite the age rules. Often times they are too busy having fun or do not have a clue what they are doing. A bad combination. It irks me. Even worse, the staff does not enforce the rules. I do it but wish they would. I also have a problem with the pool. The lap pool is great but often times when adult swim is called in the recreational pool, kids run to the lap pool. I complain to the lifeguards who fix it, but still, it should not be happening. Those irksome observations aside, I still recommend it. I forgot to mention that the cafeteria is pretty good and has a nice selection of drinks and snacks. There is also an Aveda salon, from where I have received a haircut and a massage at various times. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. I am looking for a gym membership and chose to take advantage of their 1 week free trial. I had previously been a member here but that was 4 years ago and wanted to be certain I wanted to return. My meeting was with a sales man named Ronnie. First, he was 15 minutes late to our meeting. This isn't a huge deal, I understand that he has meetings before me, but it's defiantly not something you over look when he spends 5 minutes after that talking to a member beside me before acknowledging I was there. So we go to his office and he gives me his sales pitch. This is all fine and good. I like the things they offer and from my past experiences I feel the prices are reasonable. He doesn't do a great job of describing anything, but I came informed. Again, this isn't a huge issue, but "uniformed sales person" is something I defiantly take note of. He ends by telling me how much money down it will be today and how much per month. This is where he loses my business. I said "Well, I've been checking out gyms, and one of your competitors can offer this same price with no money down". He looks at me, turns his computer towards him grabs a paper off the table and storms out the door while shooting back "Enjoy your free week". He not only attempted no negotiation, he belittled me by suggesting I had only come to this gym for the free week. This was far and away the most unprofessional he could have possibly acted. Even a simple "we can't match that" would have been understandable. He had me in the gym, in his office, after trying other clubs and he chose to throw it all away by getting angry. Couple that experience with when I did go upstairs to go work out, half the machines were "Reserved" another few of them were "Out of Order" and the first two treadmills I got on, simply wouldn't turn on. You can do better for 62 bucks a month. Don't let this place take your money. UPDATE: 7/15/2012 Ronnie called me asking if I was still interested in a membership at Lifetime. IF YOU HAVE KIDS, READ BELOW. Pricey, not always clean lockers, but generally no waits for equipment and polite gym users. Problems-Employees talk amongst themselves too much. Probably a good gym for people without kids, but not so great if you plan on taking your kids there. The folks supposedly watching your kids or teaching them how to swim are often talking amongst themselves or flirting w each other. ALSO THE FAMILY LOCKER ROOM DOES NOT FEEL SECURE. ON A REGULAR BASIS HEALTHY ADULTS WALK THROUGH IT TO MAKE A SHORTCUT TO THE MALE/FEMALE LOCKERS. Yes, the family locker is shared w seniors and those with medical needs, but it doesn't make sense why otherwise healthy people who are there to exercise, feel the need to disrespect families and take a short cut through the family locker. They should issue Special membership cards to folks w kids, seniors, and those w special needs so only they can utilize that locker room and showers. HEAR THAT MANAGEMENT? Hard to give a review. Everything great about Lifetime is on the 2nd floor. Outstanding trainers & classes. Equipment very well maintained. 1st floor is another issue. The Cafe - food is good but don't bother with the punch card. Staff has never honored the card once I reached a "free" level on three separate occasions. Spa is great...if you can get in!!! Never an appt available for haircut or massage. Now the worst----Management!! I have a real issue with the general manager Nick. To date, I have left him 5 voicemails & 3 emails and he NEVER calls back. He did return my husband's call (apparently he only speaks with men & mind you, my husband isn't a member) only to say he would follow up & he never did. He even told my husband that he sees me at the gym yet he Bevers says anything. I'm still a member only because of my great personal trainer. read more

holy shitake mushroom - this place is GORGEOUS! it's clean, pretty, has tons of machines, classes galore, ample space, towel service, HUGE bathrooms, etc. one cannot find the amenities this gym offers in NYC. (i think crunch has some serious gym envy.) as a self-described gym rat, i wanted to try out this place while i was visiting my mom and attending a bridal shower in houston. (also, there's got to be a way to expend pent-up energy when you come to a place as slow-moving as houston.) i had worked out at LA fitness and 24-hour gyms in the past, but none of them held a candle to what's available at lifetime. i was able to use a free one-week pass that i found on their website. with all these raves, one might question: what's up with the three star ranking? well, customer service there BITES. my rep that took care of giving me my week pass was nice, but had a problem with the fact that i may NOT enroll with a membership after my one-week pass was up. (umm, does that word "trial" mean anything to anyone?) he thought he was doing me a huge favor by letting me work out this ONE day, so i immediately took it up with his supervisor who let me keep the remainder of my pass. also, two out of the three people that swiped me in were douches. as in, rude and curt when answering my questions. not helpful at all for a service-based industry. ultimately, i'd probably get a membership here if i were to move to houston, but i'd avoid the employees at all costs. read more

We are attending a 5 yo birthday party that is held at this facility. Staff service is terrible. We are in the play area and the two people assigned to serve us told the kids not play here and there, you can't eat here or there, and even said you eat there we have to clean up if you spill. WTF? They started to clean up even before the assigned time is over . Why bother allowing kids birthday party here and treat kids like they don't belong. Gym is okay. It's spacious and aesthetically appealing. I've been here about a year and I guess I'll give them one more because I'm a creature of habit. The sales staff is used car pushy and rude. The showers in the mens locker room have an odor and aren't cleaned frequent enough. Employees use choice lockers in front of locker room. At times I can't tell if this place is a fitness center or a daycare center. I left Bella Terra 24 hour fitness because this one is closer. This is my first day back to this club after 5 years of frozen membership. I call before I come since I am about 40 mins away to confirm the women's steam room is open. I am told it never closes except between midnight and 4 am. Great since this is my only reason for going. I get there and there is tape all around the steam room door and you can't go in. This is after I have prepared to go in. RED FLAG! I go to guest services and explained now I have to wait for my ride 1 hour since this is all I came for. So I asked if they would turn the tv on in the women's locker room for me. Well guess what, ??? The tv doesn't work. RED FLAG !! This makes me wonder what they are doing with all the money I pay and why I am coming back. Oh I also asked about the &60 they owed me for a class I never took and they said they had me taking the class and besides it was too long ago. Even though when I froze my membership the member services said they would reimburse me. I told them if I owed them $60 and had not paid them they would have a collection agency after me. Red FLAGG!!! You might not want to join this fitness center. Pay $10 at fitness connection and buy a home personal steamer. 2 stars for the Lifetime Fitness Sugarland. I am familiar with lifetime fitness for few years. I have been to many locations so I can definately compare. Lifetime fitness in Sugarland is by far the WORST one I have seen. The gym upstairs is ok. My concern is amenities downstairs and cleanliness. Steam room is the nastiest I have seen so far, it reeks like urine mixed with eucalyptus! Old tile is about to fall apart. Pretty nasty... Showers and steam room are always fool of hair. Towels are grey in color after being used for so long. They need to be replaced or cleaned properly. Also family bathroom next to salon isn't being cleaned regularly. I even switched to another salon. Shame on management and cleaning personnel. Will be canceling my membership after being with lifetime since 2009. Goodbye! read more

There is a reason it's called Lifetime. Once you try to quit they continue to charge you for membership for the rest of your life. I cancelled my membership and they are still billing my credit card. I am still fighting with the credit card company over this. They will bill you under several merchant IDs so that the card can't block them. Definitely, a shady and fraudulent way of charging you for a membership that is no longer being used. Also, their Lifetime bucks are a joke and never add up to be used on anything useful. Only 2 trainers at this gym are good. All of the other trainers are a waste of time and money. Stay away from this money pit. read more

Let me just say I stayed far away from lifetime because i thought it was just a place people just stood around like it was social hour. Little did I know they had several Olympic Weightlifting platforms which is perfect for myself as ok a competitive powerlifter. I went in today on a guest pass with a buddy of mine, I was afraid of be asked to leave for possibly making too much noise but the platform padding allowed me to drop the barbell a little harsh and not make any noise. I love life time! I actually really considering switching gyms (currently at fitness connection), this gym has everything you need plus more! The 24hr, rock climbing, steam room, sauna, spa jacuzzi (2 to be exact), indoor/outdoor pool, lap pool Nd much more! Plenty of work out machines to accommodate everyone! I never thought a gym would be a place to host an 4 years old birthday party but I attended my nephews party here. The gym appeared clean with nice amenities. The kids area was large with a basketball court, indoor and outdoor jungle gym, computers, tv and fozzball table (albeit there was no ball to play fozzball with). Overall I liked the appearance of the gym but have no comments on the workout area, equipment or classes. read more

I'm not a fan of gyms but this one seems to be different. What I love is the kids care. Most gyms you have to make a appt. for your child to get dropped off but here you can bring them anytime. The place is very clean and I feel welcomed by all the staff. It is a bit pricey for my whole family, but we all love it. read more

Lifetime fitness in Sugar Land is a great gym to go to and worth the cost. The people care about you bettering yourself. My sister had a pool birthday party and lifetime did not allow my family to bring sodas, a decision which I highly respect. Lifetime has two floors. There are a lot of ellipticals, treadmills, and smith machines. The equipment is state of the art and plentiful with numerous incline/bench press racks, squats racks, assisted machines, free weights, dumbells, medicine balls, and kettle balls. They have different classes for all ages whether it be aqua training, yoga, kickboxing, belly dancing, Zumba, a cardio class, and so much more. The locker room is super nice. There are two basketball and racquetball courts, steam rooms, a sauna, hot tub, three pools, showers, a spa, cafeteria, etc. In sum, I recommend investing in a membership at lifetime fitness in Sugar Land. read more

I used to be a 24 hour fitness member until moving to the sugar land area. I went to checkout 24 to restart my membership and that place was dark, dirty and just gross. I couldn't believe they let a gym get that bad! I used to love 24 soo much! So I started looking around and much to my dismay most gyms in sugar land are in pretty bad shape. Not a good gym. I mainly signed up for this membership to gain access to basketball court area for my 12-year son. This has been a constant frustration since Lifetime has had so many court closures for birthday parties, Summer Camps, maintenance, etc. Notice this is not once in a while, this is literally daily. Then the remaining court is being used by adults playing full court. This essentially makes my membership useless. They make money from the birthday parties and Summer Camps so the customer should not be inconvenienced because they want to make extra money. We pay for access to the gym/courts so at least provide some type of discount for our inconvenience. No, they don't do that, they just tell you that you are not allowed to use the facilities that you pay a huge amount of money for in membership. read more

Love the place. Don't know about others, but the girls' locker room was ALWAYS clean! Someone was always folding clean towels and/or cleaning the showers and restrooms every time I was there. I am 74 years old & drove to pick up my daughter, my 72 year old husband, & my two-year-old granddaughter from lifetime fitness. It was my first time to be there & we were on a very limited schedule. Starting at 2 o'clock , it took me over two hours to find it and into rush-hour traffic for 2 hours because apparently the GPS system does not record accurately for lifetime fitness. WHY AREN'T WE WARNED??? After being lost in rush-hour traffic & driving over 30 miles in 98° outside weather trying to find it I called lifetime fitness who only said "go ahead and follow your GPS it'll take you a roundabout way but it will get you here" and she laughed. My elderly husband had the same problem getting there 2 hours previously and again Lifetime laughed and thought it was so funny that he was sent on a wild goose chase in panic. The stress the tears the confusion was almost enough that I truly thought I would die of a heart attack & never get there. sure, REAL funny. I thought of dialing 911. Everyone in lifetime fitness laughed and thought it was so funny. RUDE. INSENSITIVE. UNHELPFUL. STUPID. Why don't they take steps to fix it or explain to others how to get there! UNPROFESSIONAL. I highly recommend that people in Houston sign-up with the Lifetime Fitness in Sugarland. They have great staff who are friendly and ensure a fun, safe environment for everyone. In addition, this Lifetime charges reasonably prices for membership whereas some others - like in Cinco Ranch - try to get away with charging you more without providing a marginal benefit. The members are pretty sociable and are not stuck up like at some of the other locations. I highly recommend college students and those starting their families to sign up or get a family package with this group. Good kinds of people come here. read more

I'm giving 3 stars but it really should be a 2.5. I've been a memeber a little ove a year now. For the amount of money I'm paying I expected more. I was excited to sign up for Lifetime, everything I saw and heard were good things. Nice facility, great service, 24 hour service, basketball, raquetball, indoor/outdoor pool, rock climb, etc. After over a year, you realize its not what its choked up to be. The work out area, I can't complain too much about. The workers do a good job cleaning up, refilling towels (although some are stained), and put the weights back in line. There will be machines down for maintenance or reserved for training every now and then. The basketball gym is the most frustrating! I signed up with lifetime for their 24 hour service and for the money I pay I expect it. Since, I've joined their closing hours for the gym has fluctuated 5 times due to isolated incidents. Management can't think of a better way to handle these situations any better than closing the gym down?! People have jobs and other responsibilities, I can't ditch obligations so I can make the ever changing closing time to squeeze in some basketball. That goes for raquetball too, if the basketball gym closes so does raquetball. Rock climb, outdoor pool, indoor/outdoor water slides...when are these features ever open? If they were, I wouldn't be able to tell. Theres a comment below by Natalie D. that nails the overall feel of management. Once they have your money, they don't really care after that. The workers you get to know, some do a great job and others...meh. I expected better from Lifetime - Sugar Land. I'm currently considering driving a lot further out to the Lifetime in City Centre because of their good reviews and non-fluctuating hours for the basketball gym or just forget it and join some where else for a third of the price. I was a member here for over six years. It was okay at first but things degenerated from bad to worse. The place became overwhelmingly unhygienic. The staff are wholesomely untrained to talk and approach members with civility. There is basically no managerial impact in the place. The towels that members use are usually everywhere from the restrooms to the steam room. Sometimes, the toilets remain uncleaned for several hours. A horrible place and a horrible experience. Will recommend that anyone visiting this place be wary of the staff members who are very unprofessional and barbaric. Regretted wasting my money and time here for six years. My favorite part of working out is working out with friends, and their guest policy is a complete load of crap, $20 per guest every time! And not to mention the prices are outrageous. and you would think that with that price you would at least get a discount on the food, or maybe get to climb the rock wall more than 4 days a week for 4 hours! Very luxurious gym. However, it is expensive, 79$/a month + a $100 registration fee and 10$ per child. I loved that it has an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and a steam room. Best gym I've ever had a membership to. Overall - I've been to a few different Lifetime locations and all were great experiences. Pros; -Clean -great hours - tons of equipment (new or like new) - tons of space so your not cramped - restaurant with decent prices so you can grab a quick bite after a workout -friendly other gym members -locker rooms are nice and even the saunas are clean cons: I realize for some people they cannot afford $60 a month, but I feel like lifetime is worth the value personally read more
