Absolutely useless customer service. Our international shipment is significantly delayed and Liffey apparently has no ability to tell us where that shipment is. They can't even tell us if the shipment has left the US yet. I have called them dozens of times asking for an ETA and/or shipment number, and they have consistently failed to provide that information. We have been waiting on our international shipment for 6 months, when the original quote was for 10 weeks. As other users have noted, Liffey is also more expensive than many other movers so we expected much better information and customer service. Alas, this has been an extremely disappointing experience. When I finally reached a point in nyc (seven years to be precise) where I could actually afford to move out of an apartment with roommates to a place of my own, I was lucky enough to be given a moving credit from the building I signed a new lease with. I was given the name of Dumbo Moving and began corresponding with the appointed contact within the company for the building. It became obvious from the poor communication that I would feel uncertain and anxious about not only the cost of my move, but the competence of the company itself. After some back and forth, I began to question the buildings efficacy in choosing a vendor. I emailed the leasing agent who quickly referred me to Liffey Movers. I decided to call them immediately to see if I needed to budget my own money for the move. The conversation that followed with Kieran relieved any and all anxiety I was having. I work in production for various network shows (Billions, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) and have had to move furniture out of various high profile filming locations. The experience that followed with the four movers that arrived on my move date confirmed that not only would I be fully taken care of on my personal move, but also I now have a vendor trustworthy enough for massive set moves, time sensitive deadlines. The Liffey team helped me stay within a reasonable budget and I felt did everything to make this move as care-free as possible. They are saved in my phone for any and all future moves. I would not hire Liffey Van Lines again. Liffey packed and moved my effects with so little concern that it saw to stacking heavy items on top of items clearly marked as fragile, doing damage to containers and contents, knocked a leg off of an antique table clearly indicated to them as fragile, and then chose not to be honest about the situation in two different ways on two separate occasions. My complaint isn't about the damage to the antique table- accidents happen; my complaint is about the way Liffey treated my belongings from the outset of the job and how they chose to deal with me afterwards. I would not trust your belongings to this firm. - Upon review of the items delivered to my storage unit, I found that among other things like it, as an example, a plastic trunk marked as fragile and containing plates and glasses was placed in a moving box and on top of it was stacked a similar trunk full of heavy books. This other trunk was so heavy that the positioning of the two items was such that the bottom trunk buckled and warped and the contents damaged. This was the case with other of items, as well. It is clear that, despite assurances from Liffey that they would handle the fragile items appropriately, this was not the case. - The moving crew damaged an antique table, which was in sound condition and was identified to them and clearly marked as fragile, during the move. Upon delivery of the piece, when the damage was immediately clear, the crew foreman insisted that the table was broken when they first packed it, and that the estate's co-executor has acknowledged this. This statement was false, and I provided evidence to this effect to Liffey's main office. Later, when the issue was again raised for follow up with Liffey's main office, the crew's foreman insisted, instead, that the table was actually in sound condition when he delivered it. This statement was also false, and I provided video evidence of the table and the damage visible upon delivery, to Liffey's main office. The way Liffey treated my belongings from the outset of the job and how they chose to deal with me afterwards was really disappointing. I would not trust your belongings to this firm. read more

I'm a former owner of a large moving company and have seen a lot of movers in action. From the very start, Liffey shined. Their estimator arrived at my house on-time, reviewed our scheduling (Last week of June - the worst time to move, as all movers are booked solid) and promptly submitted their estimate. The crew we received - Ed Nolan (leader), Thomas, Louis, Edgar and Walter were among the best I've ever seen. It was a 3 day move, involved lots of heavy items (I have a huge tool & equipment collection) plus fireproof files and a safe. The weather was hot and humid, but never a complaint from the guys! They protected our houses and property, everything was padded and stretch wrapped in the house, and place exactly where we wanted it. Nothing was damaged, even though we had 7 truck loads in total. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Would recommend to anyone moving. read more

We hired this company to do a move from one apartment in the city to another, and they were excellent. They set up the appointment to bid the job quickly, the bid was very fair - a mid to lower range quote - and the 3 men they sent to do the packing were extremely hard-working, careful with fragile items, and fast. All the paper work was easy to complete and in order, and they provided us with COIs for moving in and out of the building well ahead of time. We especially liked working with the people in Liffey's home office on the arrangements - they were reliable, returned calls, and were very friendly. We needed some furniture hauled away, which they took care of for a good price also, even returning the day after the move to pick up something we had forgotten to discard. This is my 4th move with Liffey in the last 2 years. The are totally professional and a pleasure to work with. They've always packed and protected all my things and nothing has ever been lost. I've also had them store some items for me that we going to a different address snd nothing ever got confused or misplaced. They are Irish through and through with all the luck and charm associated with them. Their prices are very fair and during this last move instead of a visit for an estimate, we just FaceTimed to show them around the apartment. Some years ago I chose Liffey for a move from midtown to the Financial district. The move required that my items be held in storage by Liffey for a week until the new apartment was ready. The foreman was apparently angry about the way I'd packed some items. He was so angry that he deliberately damaged one of my items while in storage. He used something to punch a hole in the woofer of one of my expensive speakers. There was no corresponding hole on the box the speaker was in. It would have to have been opened and the damage then done. The rest of the crew was OK but I'd never use them again. read more

I recently used Liffey in conjunction with a recent out of state move (NYC was the origin). I used because they were a partner with Allied (not a great experience as well) and paid quite a bit higher then competitors with expectations of service an quality. My experience, unfortunately, was extremely poor. They did not properly RFP/RFQ to what was initiated which they refused to explain. my costs ended up to be significantly higher and this lack of transparency is unacceptable. I don't recommend using, especially at the higher cost. read more

I just moved from an apartment on the Upper East Side to a Townhouse and used Liffey. These guys are complete pros and I will only use them from now on. The scheduling could not have been easier and the experience could not have felt more personable. They were responsive to email and calls and friendly in the phone. I even changed the date on them a few times and they were very accommodating . The movers were like a perfectly choreographed team. Fast, efficient and protective of our belongings. We were a difficult move and I was a stress case, but they kept smiles on their faces, brought positivity to The experience and made me feel like I had one less thing to worry about once everything was in their hands. The worst company I have ever dealt with. I moved in late November, and the carelessness of the movers was unbelievable: they did $1500 worth of damage to a 200 year old beautiful grandfather clock, refused to apologize in any way, refused to pay for their carelessness, refused to call me back, when this past weekend they assured me that they were sending one of their experts to my house to "fix" things up. The guy who showed up spoke almost no English, but tried to convince me that he was sent to "polish clock." Huh?Needless to say, I asked him to leave. A major part of this company's problem is that many employees speak little, or poor English, and seemingly, don't have a clue, or care, or are knowledgeable about people's possessions. The management seems out to make money with little service in return. The move was a nightmare. read more

Our apartment was packed up and everything moved into the living room so renovation work could be done. The guys were efficient and quick and nice! The contractor is unpacking today and said they had never seen such a neat and orderly packing job and couldn't believe how easy is was to unpack. Everything was carefully packed, especially the art. The Liffey guys even wrapped the TV cable box, cords and remotes together and marked them! And the price was even less than the other estimates! read more

We do not recommend this service. My husband and I coordinated a move across the country with Allied Van Lines and Liffey was the local coordinator. While the movers who came to our home were fine, the communication, transparency and overall customer service was quite poor. Our main issue is that we were misled when it came to the insurance. We were given piecemeal information and when we asked for details in writing, we didn't get any response or we received half-answers. We wound up purchasing insurance for all of our items to cover them up to $30,000 even though we never received any documentation about what exactly the insurance covered or didn't cover. Perhaps we should have known this but apparently the insurance we took out on our items did not cover damage to the boxes that we packed ourselves. This is an extremely important detail as we packed almost all of our items ourselves, and Liffey knew this but chose not to point out this salient fact. The coverage took care of only catastrophic damage - such as a traffic accident, but not damage to our items outside of a traffic accident. Open learning this, we contacted Ann Marie Murphy in the New York office. She said that it was obvious they wouldn't cover anything we packed ourselves and added that we should be lucky that there were no traffic accidents, and she didn't understand why we were upset. She was not understanding, not professional and dismissive. She had a lot of explanations but never once said "we should have put that in writing or told you this fact in advance." Ann Marie said when we got our moving estimate, the information about what was and was not covered by the insurance was provided to us (it was not). She wouldn't provide the name of her supervisor and told me to call Allied before she ended the call. We highly recommend you look elsewhere for your next move. Although ultimately everything arrived more or less safely, unresponsiveness, evasiveness and poor customer service are big red flags. Liffey and Allied are problematic. read more

I recently (9/4-5) moved locally in NYC. Roughly a 3 1/2 mile move. Paid over $3,600 for packing/moving/unpacking. As the guys were rushing to finish I questioned where some dinner dishes were (roughly 22). Also after 1 of the movers disappeared for over 2 hours. One mover remembered packing them etc. Needless to say we never received the dishes. My wife and I have lived in 6 countries - we have had items damaged before but never missing! But what bothers me the most - I received two phone calls from the company (my phone shows the times and number called from) and actually felt threatened by the end of the day! Needless to say - we can not recommend the company! read more

Really Disappointing!! I am in the process of moving internationally and I contacted Allied Van Lines for a quote. They were very quick to get back to me and organise an appointment with their ONLY local agent Liffey Van Lines. I then get a call 24 hours later from Liffey to tell me that the appointment organised has to be cancelled because Allied doesn't have access to their calendar! But I had already received 2 confirmation emails! So I need to resechedule. Unfortunately, someone can only come to my area on Wednesdays (I live in NYC not Timbuktu!). And for 2 wednesdays in a row there are less than 6 appointments available. Neither of which work for me as I have other committments. The lady on the phone was quite happy to let my business go! I guess they are just making way too much money. If this is their attitude before they even get your business then I hate to experience how nochalant they would be once they have my money and the entire contents of my life! Damn shame. Will not recommend them or their partner Allied! read more

I contracted with Liffey in 2010 to move my stuff into storage. The guys who did the pick up seemed great. When I wanted my stuff delivered to Seattle this company seemed to become Scumbag Central. They "forgot" to give me a "Your Rights and Responsibilities Handbook"; they "forgot" to tell me that in the summer it takes longer than the two weeks originally estimated to arrange a move (it actually took SIX weeks, the date of delivery changed twice, delivery was six days past the last date on the contract, and I got stuck paying for both temporary housing and a lease on an empty apartment); and they "forget" to send me a "Release From Storage Form" they require before releasing your belongings to another Allied agent (I could see why as the form releases them from all responsibility for damage; no sane person would ever sign that form as sent.) Overall, I found Liffey to be uncommunicative, unprofessional and outright liars. I had to complain to Allied to get anywhere and even that didn't get my belongings to me within the contracted dates. I used to think if you paid more you'd get better quality, but in this case I'd recommend you save yourself some money and a whole lot of stress and just rent a UHaul. read more

Excellent service, from the walk through for the estimate, through the administrative preparation before the move (sharing insurance and licenses with building management), to the actual move, top notch service. On the day of the move, John, Tommy, and Shane were wonderful. They were professional and efficient. They took care of our belongings and no item was too small for them to consider. My husband and I had a great experience with Liffey. From our first experience to meeting the estimator, Jim, to the actual move, our experience was wonderful. Jim misunderstood about us taking the patio furniture but when I explained that to Kay, our price did not change. We asked Liffey for help packing a large painting, and expert packing of a fragile tabletop and they did this well. Our main experience though was: we were extremely stressed by our interstate move. John, the crew foreman, told me to calm down and not worry from the start. The men worked extremely hard and were diligent about their work. I used Liffey for a move which required that my belongings be stored with Liffey for a week, then delivered to my new apartment.. During the time these items were stored, there was deliberate damage to a rather expensive piece of stereo equipment. Specifically, there was a hole in the woofer of one of my speakers. There was other damage to the metalwork that held the woofer in place. Curiously, there was no hole in the box the speaker was in. The only way the damage could have occurred was if the box had been opened and the speaker deliberately damaged. I suspect this happened because the mover that was in charge of my move was very unhappy with the way I'd packed my vinyl albums. He made it clear to me that I was causing them extra work. I tipped the movers generously when they picked up my items but apparently this was insufficient for this particular individual. He was nasty but I wasn't expecting anything particularly bad to come out of that. It was several weeks before I discovered the damage. I decided not to pursue the matter. All I can say is that other than this they did OK. However, this was deliberate and malicious damage done by a spiteful Liffey employee. read more

John gave me a fair estimate to move me from NJ into NY City and store my things for 2 weeks in between. They took great care of my things. I did have one box that came back with a broken mug and dish - but I have never moved myself where something did get broken (I packed everything and this box was particularly poorly packed). I have been using Liffey Van Lines for approximately 12 years. In that time they have moved me five times, from Colorado to NYC, and within NYC 4 times. Their service is second to none. Jim shows up to provide quotes at the appointed time, and their movers pack and move me within the allocated time. It is easy to schedule moves with Kieran and Certificates of Insurance are turned around within 1-2 days and sometimes on the same day. If you move to a smaller apartment, they will take your stuff back to their storage facility and store it for you and bring stuff from storage when you need it. The movers are always friendly and will go the extra mile for you - sometimes taking boxes away even if you haven't paid for that service. I recently decided to compare their price against another moving company in NYC and they were $600 cheaper, so I stuck with them. Truly a five star company. read more

I have only praise for the entire team at Liffey and if you don't choose them for your move you frankly need your head examined. I'd been planning a move to the northwest U.S. for mid-April. With circumstances deteriorating in NYC, I called three movers including Liffey on Monday, 3/16 to schedule an onsite visit for an estimate. Jim showed up promptly at 8 a.m. on Tuesday 3/17 to look around my 1,000 sq ft apt on the UES. I had an email estimate by 11:30. I chose Liffey for the move any had received a contract shortly thereafter from Ashley C. We initially scheduled the move for Wednesday 3/25. Later, she checked with dispatch and we moved it up to Monday 3/21. At around 3 p.m., I saw De Blasio on TV saying a 'Stay in Place' order might be forthcoming in the next few days. I immediately called Alicia who is always pleasant and available by phone or immediately responds to email (unlike the other movers) and asked if there was any way to move me out 'tomorrow'. After a check with dispatch again she came back with a 'Yes' answer. By the end of the day, Alicia had provided me the necessary insurance form for my building Sup and someone stopped by to drop off a number of wardrobe boxes. THAT's SERVICE! The NEXT morning a moving crew showed up promptly and began moving stuff out. Kudo's to Calif, Desmond, John, Juan and Ryvan for busting a$$ to get everything out and on the truck by day's end. I was on a flight out of JFK at 7 a.m. the next morning only to find out that the'Shelter in Place' order was in effect by week's end. Were it not for the timely response and execution by Liffey, I'd have been stuck in NYC and screwed. I hope all my friends at Liffey are well and again, a heart-felt THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THANK YOU!! Liffey Van Lines, Inc. is just bad business. Not only our furniture was all wet because of a leak in their storage facilities, but our stuff was broken and 3 items where missing. Once we got a lawyer involved so they can return some of our money back, they were rude and blamed on us. These people have a big company and they don't care about their costumer's belongings. If you have expensive furniture like we did, just be careful because they don't care at all. I really wish I didn't have to give ANY starts to this review. Negative one start would be more accurate. My experience with Liffey Van lines and storage was truly a pleasure! As the executor of an estate in NYC I had them completely pack and move the contents of a large 2 bedroom apartment and store the items while I waited for the courts to complete their work. I had a good experience on a not-so-easy move. I agree that the storage facility is easy to get to and clean. Office seems very organized. Hopped the express train to 125th and was there is a flash. so i contacted the moving service and mike came out to do an estimate. i am not familiar with every aspect of moving but i was moving from the 14 floor to the 22nd floor via elevator i have a 3bedroom apartment. mike quoted me a price of 4,585.00 . i felt the price was high but i was desperate and mike threatened me and made me uncomfortable by saying sign paper or he will pull the workers. so my assistant arrived and looked at the contract and pointed out the same thing i said in regards to the supplies that we were charged for so he called on my behalf to get a itemized quote for all the supplies that are being used. first he called gavin who directed him to call mike. i did not want to speak to mike because of his attitude and the way he came across. so my assistant calls and ask for an itemized supply sheet and mike tells him he will only email it to me. so he emails it we review it and we see items that were not used or in our hands ... crates,popcorn packaging, things that were not needed or used in the move from one floor to the next so today when workers came to finish job we call to speak to mike again. first he says that we requested just a price sheet.. we did not we requested an itemized supply list for each thing he was charging us for .. so after 3 minutes of arguing about that mike says "listen that's the quote whether or not we use it. So we ask are we paying for items we did not use or recieve. He basically says yes and if we dont give the worker the check they wont finish work even though we were over charged for supplies and wouldnt talk with us to explain or resolve the issues or concerns we had. basically forcing us to pay or not get our move completed. mike is very rude, disrespectful and a nasty individual his employees all but agreed with us which is a shame. i dont want to speak to him or deal with him but for him to think he can get away with this type of practice is unacceptable read more
